Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Slipper leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. The eye of this spring will attach to the front hanger with a suspension bolt. The flat slipper end of the spring will slide into the rear hanger. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the slipper end will slide into the equalizer that connects multiple springs. The shape of the slipper end of a leaf spring may vary slightly due to differences among trailer manufacturers. Because of this, it's important to check your leaf spring's slipper end before purchasing a replacement spring.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, a suspension bolt, and possibly a spring keeper bolt, depending on the design of the rear hanger. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer, but it would be wise to replace the bolts as they can experience wear. It is also recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

Video Transcript for Universal Group Trailer Suspension - Leaf Spring Suspension - SP-179275 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the 4-leaf slipper spring for 2000-pound trailer axle. This is made of a strong, durable steel construction. It is designed to flex to absorb road shock, provide a nice, smooth ride, which will help reduce wear and tear on your trailer. It does ensure a nice, level ride on bumpy and uneven surfaces, and it does mount to your trailer frame with hangers or a hanger kit, which we do sell separately on our website. Lots of times on the product page we will list the hangers as a related product. If you notice, on the eye end it does include the nylon bushing in the spring eye. A few specs on this: the weight capacity on this 1 spring is 1000 pounds.

Now, when this is matched with one on the other side of the axle, it'll meet the axle capacity of 2000 pounds. This is 4 leaves, as you can see: 1, 2, 3, 4. I'll give you a few measurements. We're going to measure the spring length, which is from the center of the eye to this other end here. We're going to do the spring width.

Those are your 2 important measurements. The length from the center, you're going to see right there, is going to be 24 5/8 for the spring length. The spring width is going to be right at 1 3/4 inches. The diameter on the spring eye portion is going to be 9/16 of a diameter. Now this part is for a quantity of 1 spring. One last note I want to let you know is that to ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance on your trailer, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

That should do it for the review on the 4-leaf slipper spring for 2000-pound trailer axle.

Customer service with etrailer as usual was 100%. I placed my order in the morning, and within an hour I received shipping info and it arrived only a few days later. Couldn't be happier with etrailer, I have used them several times and the customer service is hard to beat. The springs seem to be of good quality. I just put them on so I am unable to comment on their longevity. They do sag a little more than the previous springs I had on the trailer but they should work just fine. I sprayed some liquid rubber coating on the springs to try and increase the overall lifespan, hopefully it will slow the rate of corrosion. 430391

I have purchased a number of items from etrailer.com such ans leaf springs, axle and hub assembly, and other items as well, I recently finished the trailer and it is now on a cross country trip. The trailer has just finished a 3,000 mile leg of this trip and I am told it was so smooth that it could not be felt by the towing vehicle. Every product I have ordered from etrailer.com has been top quality and has worked extremely well. I would come back again for any of my future trailer needs. 390893

2,000 lb. GVW utility trailer came stock with set of two-leaf springs. No wonder it sagged when loaded to 1,500 to 2,000 lbs. So I ordered a set of four-leaf springs. The description of the springs was very thorough so I was very sure they were what would work and install easily. When the new springs arrived it only took ten or fifteen minutes per side to easily make the switch to the new four-leaf springs. By cleaning all surfaces and going to all steel shorter lock nuts I was even able to re-use the old U-bolts and other hardware. Haven't used it yet (still repairing lights) but I'm sure there'll be a noticeable difference for the better! Thanks e-trailer! 547118

The Reline trailer suspension fit perfect on my small sailboat trailer. It was easy to install and installation instructions video was great for a first timer like me to do the job. Great customer service support helped me out when the first suspension was too big for my trailer. I return it and got the right size. I am very satisfied with the product and the price on the suspension. 349500

I love this product for many reasons. Not only does it take the weight it’s meant for, but it also keeps my trailer steady while and not bouncing around. Plus: Good products for a super low price. Accomplished the goal of bringing life back to a dead trailer. The leaf springs ride much better than the stock rubber torsion axle. The new hubs and bearings roll much easier than the worn out ones they replaced. Minus: A little disappointed in the spring bushing. It seemed like cheap plastic and was quite a bit larger than the bolt so it fit loosely. This was the only real negative I have about the purchased, and that's pretty minor. Tips for etrailer: Providing a height of the spring would make spring selection easier. In our case we were starting with scratch for mounting springs, no preexisting mounting hardware. Knowing the height of the spring from mount to axle would have been helpful in selecting a spring for the proper ride height. In a snowmobile trailer application an inch or two in height makes a bit difference in approach angle when loading a sled. This was about the only measurement not listed for springs so we guessed, and it came out well for us in the end. 339177

The company person Katie M and delivery were excellent. The springs look adequate and were the right size. The only thing that gives me pause is they were made in China NOT the good ole USA. So some concerns about the steel quality over time. Also, other sites offer a special coating on springs that are intended for use in saltwater environment. Etrailer did not offer it, otherwise very good. 313979

You will also want to pick up a U-Bolt Kit # APUBR-10 for mounting your axle. Please check out the attached installation video for additional info. I was able to track down the specs for your trailer on-line and found that it uses slipper springs, so you'll want to go with one of the following. Choose...

  • What is the Difference Between Double Eye Leaf Springs and Slipper Leaf Springs
  • The difference is found in the application. The Slipper Spring styles, like part # SP-179275, are intended for use with more heavy duty applications, while the Double Eye styles, like part # SP-124275 are used to provide a more comfortable ride. The part # SP-124275 that you referenced will be the correct fit if your current leaf springs are 26 inches long from the center of the attachments points (usually known as eye-center-to-eye-center). Its not likely that professional welder would charge that much. You might be able to find one locally via an iron workers union near you. For u-bolts for your 1-1/2 inch square axle you can use # SP01-120 for 2 u-bolts and 4 nuts. For a u-bolt plate you can use # 115983. For a hanger kit you could use # APS1. Now what you could...

The other thing to consider is that a thicker spring pack would raise the trailer up a bit if the spring was mount above the axle. • Replacement Slipper Springs for 1985 Harding Boat Trailer
  • I do have options for you but exact replacements for old boat trailers are hard to come by. In the majority of cases, items will need to be altered for an exact fit which I assume is what is going to need to be done on your trailer as well. We don't have a slipper spring that is 1-3/4" wide x 28" long (center of eye to end of spring) with a 2,500, 3,000, or 3,500 lb capacity. • Leaf Spring Recommendation for Trailer with Slippers Springs that are 24-7/8 inches
  • When picking out leaf springs there are two important things needed. You first need to get a spring that is rated for the weight of your trailer and then get one that is the proper length. Since you sent us a drawing that shows your slipper springs being 24-7/8 inches in length what you would need to do is determine what axle capacity you need. For a 2k axle you would need is the part # SP-179275 or for 1k axle part # SP-177275. Or for 1,500 lb axle you would need part # SP-178275.
