Need to replace Old Rusty Slipper Springs 2,000 lb Axle

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/21/2025

Question:

Hello, I currently am working on a trailer with slipper leaf springs. They are so rusted they’re literally falling apart. I can’t really tell if it was a 3 or leaf. I do know the eye to dimension on the trailer is 23”. It is for a 2,000 rated axle. Any help would be appreciated. I can send pictures as well. Thank you

Hi Albert! Sounds like you’ve got some old, rusty springs on your hands!

When it comes to replacing slipper springs, the number of leafs doesn’t matter too much. What really counts is the overall length of the spring and the axle capacity, and the best way to get that is to measure it while the suspension is hanging free, with no weight on it. Then measure from the center of the eyelet straight across the spring to the end of the slipper (pictured below).

We currently do not carry any slipper springs that are 23" long. Were you measuring without weight on the suspension? Please let me know in the comments below.

Hi Albert, did you have a chance to measure the slipper springs with the suspension hanging free? I'm asking to make sure we can help others who might face the same issue.
