This Comfort Ride suspension upgrade system greatly improves your towing experience. It serves as an add-on for your leaf spring suspension, and it provides a notably smoother ride, reducing chucking, axle roll-up, and suspension rebound. This means that you'll experience improved handling, even over potholes and uneven pavement. And the contents of your trailer will stay in place during travel.

Gas Shocks Absorb Road Vibration

While traditional leaf springs support your trailer to prevent bottoming out, they don't necessarily provide a comfortable ride. Due to the rigidity of the steel construction, leaf springs do a poor job of absorbing shock and bounce and limiting sway.

Roadmaster Comfort Ride shocks

Adding these shocks to your existing leaf spring suspension offers a better solution. Gas-powered springs inside of the sealed cylinders compress and extend as you drive. The compression and extension of the springs creates enough force to offset the amount of incoming force or vibration that occurs when you tow over rough or uneven terrain. The result is a more comfortable towing experience.

Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers installed

Many trailers will have shocks mounted at around a 40-degree angle, but this positioning doesn't compensate very well for the up-and-down movement of the trailer's suspension. Roadmaster's patented adjustable frame brackets are specifically designed to allow these shocks to be mounted at an optimum angle between 20 and 40 degrees. As a result, these shocks will have the leverage necessary to limit up-and-down and lateral movement during both compression and rebound.

Rigorous Testing Standards

The Comfort Ride shock absorber system has endured rigorous testing to ensure its durability and longevity. This testing includes computerized Finite Element Analysis, which establishes guidelines to ensure superior product quality and safety. Roadmaster also tested these shock absorbers at the Navistar Proving Grounds, a private test facility that provides real-world handling and safety testing. Installation of the Comfort Ride system is fairly straightforward.

The included tie plates replace your existing U-bolt tie plates. You will need to retain your existing U-bolts and nuts for installation. Once the tie plates are installed, bolt the upper mounting brackets to your trailer's frame with the included hardware. Some drilling is required when mounting the brackets to the frame. Finally, attach the shocks between the tie plates and the frame brackets.

1. The impression from "people"
was usually "why shocks on a camper", which I would answer "why shocks on your car".
2. The ride was much better; as you may imagine driving your car without shocks. And the sway was minimized & the braking effectiveness increase.
3. We've sold that RV and on our new one already planning the install; and including the wet bolts and mod on the leaf-spring hangers.


One of the best things I’ve installed on my travel trailer. They smoothed out the ride and removed the sway from my trailer. Every travel trailer made should have these installed on them at the factory.



Still working great, still have a smooth ride with no sway. Love it!


We bought a new Grand Design 22 foot Travel Trailer and Ford Expedition Tow Vehicle. Even after we installed a Curt Trunnion Bar Equalizer Hitch, the trailer bucking was unbearable for long trips. It was so bad we were ready to sell the whole rig. The suspension of all travel trailers is sub-standard.
We bought the Roadmaster RM-2450 Shock absorber kit and installed it ourselves. It made a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE in the ride! However, the installation was not easy for a 76 year old man. Thanks to a neighbor with a flat paved driveway and an extensive tool inventory, I got it done. You need pre-planning and high jack stands. Read the instructions and view some online videos before committing. Verify that there are no gas or water pipes next to the trailer frames.
Determining the location of the upper shock frame bracket is tricky. This measurement sets the angle of the shock absorber, and has to be done BEFORE you lift the trailer and remove the wheels! You have to have the trailer loaded, the wheels on the ground and the tow vehicle connected. Then install one shock absorber from the bottom up and measure where the upper bracket sets on the frame. Then you can disconnect and lift the trailer up on jack stands and drill the frame holes. I was lucky that I was close to the IDEAL 35 degree angle on my trailer. I don't know what you would do if you are outside the 25 to 40 degree allowable range.
The instructions say you have to get 12" long drill bits to drill into the bottom of the frame. There's not enough clearance to insert a standard drill between the springs and frame. Pushing the drill up overhead, and having the bit tight to the springs makes it almost impossible to get the holes straight. So when you drive the self tapping bolts into the holes it is very easy to strip them. A better solution is to have a low profile angle drill. Otherwise you'll be welding the brackets or glueing bolts.
We also installed heavy duty shackles, wet bolts and bronze bushings while the trailer was up on the jack stands. You have to refer to other reviews for that. The Trailer Mfg. stock components are junk.

I have made several trips into western VA and West VA so have used the mountains and found it made a big difference in stability and bounce as advertised. No fault of the product but had I known I would have changed axles to next load level higher and kit to match. Instructions were pretty good, it does require some drilling through 3/16 steel 9/16" holes so having proper tools for job is essential. I got some trailer jack stands from [nationwide retailer] they provided safety at a reasonable cost. I highly recommend them.

As advertised


Installation was as shown on videos Directions were clear and all parts were included and well packaged. I need to move the gray water drain line with being all plastic was not a problem. I’ve only pulled the trailer about 5 miles since the installation I believe it’s made a large difference in the ride in the tow vehicle and the sway and handling of the trailer. The only negative I found is the shock bolts bolts are metric and the assembly bolts are SAE easy to confuse a half inch self locking nut with a 12 mm. Ruined 1/2 inch nut requiring a trip to the hardware store. A good half inch drive impact wrench is a huge labor saver and putting the 32 self tapping bolts into the trailer frame.


I received the RoadmasterComfort ice Shock Kit today and have not had the opportunity to install the the kit at this time. However, upon opening the box of parts, I was impressed by the quality of the materials provided in the kit. That is a grand start, for good review of the Roadmaster Kit.

Will provide more review once installed and tested.

Install wasn’t bad. Grand design welds a V bracket inside the spring hangers for more strength so that was my only challenge on install. This caused a problem on the center hanger as the spacer wouldn’t fit. Had to grind about a quarter inch off the spacer so it would fit as I could only bend the bottom of the hangers so much. Will be towing about 100 miles this weekend so it will be nice to hopefully not have broken drawers in the back of the trailer as well as shelves in the fridge door dislodged. I also did the X factor cross braces on the front and rear hangers for more strength. Will post back after we get more miles on it, but given all the other positive reviews I don’t think I’ll be unhappy.


Installed a year ago, I made a drilling template to help locate the frame mounting bracket screw holes. Installed a set on (2) fivers, spent average of 2.5 hours for total installation per fiver. Helped the ride of the trailer. Would certainly recommend the shock kit.


We installed these on our 2022 Riverstone Legacy 39RKFB and without a doubt they have saved us on broken rims (many have this issue) and the ride was an instant upgrade. We drove a 6500-mile trip over the summer to ZION and Rockies and no issues at all. I installed them myself and recommend them as an inexpensive solution to expensive independent suspension.


This is a great kit! Everything needed is included. Be sure to purchase the heavy duty wet bolt kit for the shackles.


The suspension system is amazing! It feels like the 5th wheel is riding on coil springs. The shock absorbers make such a noticeable difference; why these aren't installed at the factory will forever puzzle me.
Installation was straight forward. The length and quality of current U-bolts allowed for reuse.
I was skeptical about the fasteners, until the first one was torqued to was soon apparent that the provided hardware was more than adequate for the job.
I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this system again, and I promote it as often as possible.

OMG! After having the trailer bottom out on the stock springs while traversing a RR crossing, this system has proven to be amazing. Returning from a VA campground I crossed multiple RR crossings and traveled some rough pavement. I found I had left a bottle of shower soap on the ledge in the shower! It was still there when I set up in my yard. Not possible with the stock suspension!


Along with the new springs....everything works as advertised. Well satisfied. No complaints.
I had to modify the one set of shock brackets to fit, as I have raised the trailer 5 inches
to match up with the 4 inch raised truck. problems.
