This Comfort Ride suspension upgrade system greatly improves your towing experience. It serves as an add-on for your leaf spring suspension, and it provides a notably smoother ride, reducing chucking, axle roll-up, and suspension rebound. This means that you'll experience improved handling, even over potholes and uneven pavement. And the contents of your trailer will stay in place during travel.

Gas Shocks Absorb Road Vibration

While traditional leaf springs support your trailer to prevent bottoming out, they don't necessarily provide a comfortable ride. Due to the rigidity of the steel construction, leaf springs do a poor job of absorbing shock and bounce and limiting sway.

Roadmaster Comfort Ride shocks

Adding these shocks to your existing leaf spring suspension offers a better solution. Gas-powered springs inside of the sealed cylinders compress and extend as you drive. The compression and extension of the springs creates enough force to offset the amount of incoming force or vibration that occurs when you tow over rough or uneven terrain. The result is a more comfortable towing experience.

Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers installed

Typically, when shocks are installed on a trailer, they're positioned at a more horizontal angle. But this positioning doesn't compensate very well for the up-and-down movement of the trailer's suspension. However, Roadmaster's patented adjustable frame brackets are specifically designed to allow these shocks to be mounted at a nearly vertical angle. As a result, these shocks will have the leverage necessary to limit up-and-down motion during both compression and rebound.

Rigorous Testing Standards

The Comfort Ride shock absorber system has endured rigorous testing to ensure its durability and longevity. This testing includes computerized Finite Element Analysis, which establishes guidelines to ensure superior product quality and safety. Roadmaster also tested these shock absorbers at the Navistar Proving Grounds, a private test facility that provides real-world handling and safety testing. The result is a safe, long-lasting product that you can trust.

Installation

Installation of the Comfort Ride system is fairly straightforward.

The included tie plates replace your existing U-bolt tie plates. You will need to retain your existing U-bolts and nuts for installation. Once the tie plates are installed, bolt the upper mounting brackets to your trailer's frame with the included hardware. Some drilling is required when mounting the brackets to the frame. Finally, attach the shocks between the tie plates and the frame brackets.

We bought a new Grand Design 22 foot Travel Trailer and Ford Expedition Tow Vehicle. Even after we installed a Curt Trunnion Bar Equalizer Hitch, the trailer bucking was unbearable for long trips. It was so bad we were ready to sell the whole rig. The suspension of all travel trailers is sub-standard. We bought the Roadmaster RM-2450 Shock absorber kit and installed it ourselves. It made a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE in the ride! However, the installation was not easy for a 76 year old man. Thanks to a neighbor with a flat paved driveway and an extensive tool inventory, I got it done. You need pre-planning and high jack stands. Read the instructions and view some online videos before committing. Verify that there are no gas or water pipes next to the trailer frames. Determining the location of the upper shock frame bracket is tricky. This measurement sets the angle of the shock absorber, and has to be done BEFORE you lift the trailer and remove the wheels! You have to have the trailer loaded, the wheels on the ground and the tow vehicle connected. Then install one shock absorber from the bottom up and measure where the upper bracket sets on the frame. Then you can disconnect and lift the trailer up on jack stands and drill the frame holes. I was lucky that I was close to the IDEAL 35 degree angle on my trailer. I don't know what you would do if you are outside the 25 to 40 degree allowable range. The instructions say you have to get 12" long drill bits to drill into the bottom of the frame. There's not enough clearance to insert a standard drill between the springs and frame. Pushing the drill up overhead, and having the bit tight to the springs makes it almost impossible to get the holes straight. So when you drive the self tapping bolts into the holes it is very easy to strip them. A better solution is to have a low profile angle drill. Otherwise you'll be welding the brackets or glueing bolts. We also installed heavy duty shackles, wet bolts and bronze bushings while the trailer was up on the jack stands. You have to refer to other reviews for that. The Trailer Mfg. stock components are junk.

Great. We’ve towed all over the country about 13,000 miles, and we’re still pleased with the ride.

Thank you for asking for a 1 year review as I never do them without enough test time. I have made several trips into western VA and West VA so have used the mountains and found it made a big difference in stability and bounce as advertised. No fault of the product but had I known I would have changed axles to next load level higher and kit to match. Instructions were pretty good, it does require some drilling through 3/16 steel 9/16" holes so having proper tools for job is essential. I got some trailer jack stands from [nationwide retailer] they provided safety at a reasonable cost. I highly recommend them.

I received the RoadmasterComfort ice Shock Kit today and have not had the opportunity to install the the kit at this time. However, upon opening the box of parts, I was impressed by the quality of the materials provided in the kit. That is a grand start, for good review of the Roadmaster Kit. Will provide more review once installed and tested. Thanks for the expedient shipment of the kit and the follow-up.

Installation was as shown on videos Directions were clear and all parts were included and well packaged. I need to move the gray water drain line with being all plastic was not a problem. I’ve only pulled the trailer about 5 miles since the installation I believe it’s made a large difference in the ride in the tow vehicle and the sway and handling of the trailer. The only negative I found is the shock bolts bolts are metric and the assembly bolts are SAE easy to confuse a half inch self locking nut with a 12 mm. Ruined 1/2 inch nut requiring a trip to the hardware store. A good half inch drive impact wrench is a huge labor saver and putting the 32 self tapping bolts into the trailer frame.

Review from a similar Comfort Ride in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

Along with the new springs....everything works as advertised. Well satisfied. No complaints. I had to modify the one set of shock brackets to fit, as I have raised the trailer 5 inches to match up with the 4 inch raised truck. Otherwise...no swaying....no bouncing........no problems. Thanks etrailer for your help.

Comments
Great. On a 32 ft. WildCat fifth wheel..No problems. In the driveway, I installed the Shock system, heavier springs. I had to modify the shock-to-frame brackets, as the trailer has been raised 5 inches. Along with the MorRyde Stabilizers the trailer tows like a dream. Be sure to have the wet bolt grease nipples pointing out to the side of the unit for easier access. Next project will be to replace the scary Magnetic Brakes with a hydraulic system. Thanks etrailer. Kudos to your wonderful support crew. It was just like calling my buddy next door.

Review from a similar Comfort Ride in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

OMG! After having the trailer bottom out on the stock springs while traversing a RR crossing, this system has proven to be amazing. Returning from a VA campground I crossed multiple RR crossings and traveled some rough pavement. I found I had left a bottle of shower soap on the ledge in the shower! It was still there when I set up in my yard. Not possible with the stock suspension!

Comments
This was the best thing I could have done to make the 5th wheel experience a good one. Prior to installing failing to properly secure things in the trailer would not end well. After the install, items remained where they were last placed.

Review from a similar Comfort Ride in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

So far so good on my 2015 Open Range 3X427BHS! Overall, the old suspension system was just rusted and worn out and the tires were a maximum of 1" apart, which made me really nervous while pulling. It was tough to remove, but nothing a little WD-40 and some praying couldn't fix! Installation was pretty straight forward using the included directions and [online video] University. Looking forward to seeing how it rides this weekend on our next trip.

Highly recommend adding these on your camper. We added them to our Grand Design 2400 BH which was a night and day difference in ride quality. This eliminated a lot of the porpoising, chucking and side to side roll that you sometimes get. I was amazed how much smoother of a ride pulling the camper is now. Running these shocks now in combination with the Road Armor Equalizers.

What I like better than the products are the people and support received from EVERYONE I have talked to at etrailer. If Forest River was half this good, I might buy another one, but most of the questions or problems I have come across with our fifth wheel have been solved by someone here after talking to a generic moron at the manufacturer. eTrailer ROCKS!!!

Review from a similar Comfort Ride in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

I live in canada, the cost of the shock kit was xxx.xx Canadian cheaper than what I could buy it for in here even with the Dollar exchange and shipping, and I got it 7 weeks sooner than any other dealer I contacted here in Canada. The service from etrailer was excellent and the shock kit arrived on time as promised from UPS. Thank you etrailer for your excellent service, I especially liked the package tracking system. I was able to see the progress of my package from the time it was picked from the shelf to every step of the shipping process. I will purchase more from etrailer in the future now that I've experienced how easy the process is. *** If you are ordering from Canada insure you call etrailer and confirm the cost of Canadian to US exchange and the shipping cost. Remember that all figures are in US dollars.*** I have not yet installed the shock kit but I will update my review once it's installed and I've had a chance to pull the trailer.

As always etrailer delivered a great product, complete and undamaged in record time. I received the Roadmaster -2460 shock kit for the suspension on my 2019 36 foot fifth wheel three days earlier than expected and completed the installation myself in approx. six hours. Anxious to take it down the road and see how much it has improved the ride in my coach. Great price, easy installation and good instructions for those mechanically inclined DIY's.

The Roadmaster - 2460 shock kit improved the ride in my 36 ft. fifth wheel, eliminating the rough ride and jarring we had been experiencing previously. We have traveled approximately 10,000 miles since the installation and are extremely happy with the performance.

I purchased this system for our 2018 Coachman Chaparral. We had noticed that it would sway after crossing bridges and especially when coming out of a curve or while turning. I found this system to be very helpful. I welded the mounting brackets to the frame of the 5th wheel and bolted the rest as instructed. I would recommend this product to anyone that wants to stabilize their RV. Thank you for allowing me to write a review.

great product, I'm a fabrication/designer, well thought out and much better than the original factory suspension. I also added structural kickers to the suspension hangers to help side load generated while turning and not relying on the hangers for strength. I also replaced the original factory u bolts, might as well have all new going back on

Well, all the shocks are installed. Working on my back is hard, not as easy to do stuff today as it was years ago but I got I done. Sharp drill bits and using the frame mounting plates as a guide was the key. However, I had so much dirt and metal bits in my hair I had to take my dogs flee comb to my head before I could shower. Now for the next project whatever that is. I’m sure I’ll think of something.

Review from a similar Comfort Ride in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

Just finished installing the Roadmaster shock system on my Momentum 398M tri-axle. The kit arrived well packaged and all items were included. The instructions that come with it are pretty straight forward and easy to understand. This would probably be a lot quicker install with some helping hands, but I did it by myself in about 6 hours. The hardest part of the entire setup is all of the overhead drilling, but with a little redneck ingenuity I was able to make that bearable. As far as this kit goes, the ordering process and the outstanding customer service from Angela W, etrailer.com rocks!! This could be the start of a wonderful relationship..

Arrived very well boxed, nice heavy brackets, fit well with exception of trying to get angle and length both correct. In the past we have determined that the Lippert 2,700 lb axle has a 2-3/8 inch outer diameter which means the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers # RM-2450 that you referenced would fit and work great on your trailer.

  • Do Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shocks For 3,500 lb Axles Affect Warranty of Axle
That's a good question, but the warranty of your axle will not be affected by the use of the Roadmaster shock absorbers for tandem 3,500 lb axles, which is the following part: - Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers - 3,500-lb Axle # RM-2450 The Comfort Ride # RM-2450 doesn't involve any type of modification of the axle or affect the positioning of the axle, it installs with the included tie plates which allow you to mount the kit's extension brackets. • Recommended Suspension Enhancement For 2019 Heartland Pioneer RL250 W/ Tandem 3500lb Axles
Since your 2019 Heartland RV Pioneer RL250 has tandem 3500lb axles I recommend the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers - 3,500-lb Axle # RM-2450 you were looking at. The # RM-2450 does a great job of absorbing road shock due to the nitrogen filled shock absorbers, and will also reduce sway by limiting lateral movement. This kit will require your trailer to have the leaf springs above the axle of your trailer. If your trailer has the leaf springs underneath...

  • How to Detemrine Trailer Suspension Equalizer Upgrade for Tandem Axle Trailer
There is likely a suspension upgrade that will work for you, but you'll need to find a kit that has equalizers which are the same measurements as yours, and fit within your axle capacity. For example, the Road Armor Shock Absorbing Equalizer Kit # LC696740 is for equalizers that measure 6" center-to-center of the lower bolt holes and 3-1/2" tall; it is rated for 3,500 lb to 8,000 lb axles. The Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers # LC279687 are for 3,000 lb to 6,000 lb axles and replace...

  • Improve Jayco Tandem Axle Trailer Ride With Shock Absorbing Upgrades
To improve your trailers rough ride and absorb road shock I would start by replacing your trailers equalizers with a shock absorbing equalizer system. The Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers part # LC279687 is designed for tandem axle trailers with axles capacities ranging from 3,000 - 6,000 lbs. In order to determine if they will work for you, you will need to measure the equalizers you currently have on your trailer. The most important measurement to take note of is the distance between...

  • Availability Of Suspension Upgrades For 2020 East to West Silver Lake TT W/ Tandem 3500lb Axles
I would be happy to go over the suspension enhancement options for your 2020 East to West Silver Lakes Travel Trailer with Tandem 3500lb Dexter axles, but the MORryde Premium Rubber Suspension Kit for Tandem Axle Trailer # MR97ZR you were looking at only works with 5200-7000lb axles. Since your equalizers measure 5-3/4" center to center of the horizontal mounting holes you can use the Dexter E-Z Flex Equalizers # K71-654-00 as a replacement. These equalizers have rubber cores to absorb...

  • Shock Kit for Forest River Vengeance 5th Wheel
If your 2016 Forest River Vengeance has tandem 2-3/8-inch axles you can use Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorber kit # RM-2450 which has nitrogen shocks to reduce the bounce from your leaf spring suspension. If it is a triple axle you will also use the Add-On Kit # RM-2450-50. If instead you have tandem 3-inch axles you can use kit # RM-2460 and add part # RM-2460-50 for a triple axle setup. Lippert kit # LC281281 is for single axle trailers.

  • Which Direction Do You Mount the Shocks In a Lippert Bolt On Shock Kit
When installing a shock kit like the Lippert Bolt-On Shock Kit w/ Heavy Duty Gas Shocks - 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb (3") Axle # LC281281 or using the # LC283280 you will want to install the shock so the lower connection to the axle U-bolt plate happens closest to the equalizer as shown in the directions diagram. Part of the reason for the orientation of this particular kit is because of the brackets, which might explain the differences that you're seeing in orientation; it's possible that...

  • Can Shocks Be Added To 2020 Grand Design Imagine XLS 17MKE With MORryde CRE300 Equalizers?
Not at all! A shock kit for your 2020 Grand Design Imagine XLS 17MKE will fit just fine with your MORryde CRE300 rubber equalizers, and will give you a much smoother ride as the shocks do a fantastic job of absorbing road shock. Since your 17MKE has a GVWR of 6395lbs it more than likely has 3500lb axles. For a shock kit I recommend the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers - 3,500-lb Axle # RM-2450 which is designed specifically for 3500lb axles. This...

  • Will the Lippert Components Center Point Work with the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers
The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers like part # RM-2450 for example come with upper brackets which are deigned to mount directly to the frame rail just before the center leaf spring hanger. The issues you are going to run into trying to use them with the Lippert Components Center Point by Trailair Air-Ride Suspension Upgrade part # LC1565391 is that the extra airbags and brackets on this equalizer are going to make the physical size of it much lager which...
