Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Toyota Prius v

Speaker 1: Today in this 2016 Toyota Prius-V, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Class 1 Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 24967. Here's what our hitch looks like installed. Now one of the first things you'll notice about this hitch is that it's completely hidden behind our fascia. The only part that you'll see is the receiver itself, hanging down.On the side of our receiver, you'll find our industry standard half inch diameter hitch pinhole, to secure your hitch mounted accessories. You can pick up a pin and clip separately on our website, that's part number PC2.Welded on the bottom of our receiver are rolled steel safety chain loops. And what's nice about these, is that even if you have a large diameter safety chain hook, such as this one on your trailer, you'll still be able to hook on and clip it off, very easily. This hitch features a 200 pound max ton weight rating, which is the amount forcing down.

And a 2,000 pound, max gross trailer weight rating. Which is the amount I can pull. You wanna make sure you do consult with the owner's manual in your Prius-V, and not exceed what the vehicle's rated for. Go by whichever number is less. And one thing that I like about this hitch, compared to other options in the market, is that its design does conceal what completely behind our fascia. But that doesn't require any modifications to the vehicle, in order to conceal it.And now for a few measurements to better assist you in choosing any hitch mounted accessory you may need, such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. You're looking at about 12 and a quarter inches from the ground to the top of the receiver opening.

And about 5 inches from the center of the hitch pinhole to the rear most part of the back bumper. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install, we'll be on the driver's side of our vehicle and we need to remove our factory tie down hook. In order to do that, we'll have two 17 millimeter bolts that have to come out.Now on our passenger side, we need to lower down our exhaust a little bit. In order to do that, we'll have an exhaust hanger like this, at the back of the muffler, and one at the front. It's a good idea to take some spray lubricant, lubricate your hangers a little bit. Then you can use a pry bar and pry off the hanger.

Then we can lower the exhaust down. Now we'll remove our exhaust hanger bracket on the passenger side, with two 17 millimeter bolts here as well. We'll have two fascia attachment tabs that go to the frame of our vehicle. They're held in place with a plastic clip. The way these clips work, if you use a flathead screwdriver and get underneath it and pry the center section down a little bit. Then you can come in with a trim handle tool, or just keep using your flathead screwdriver, and remove the pushpin.

And that'll allow us to pull the fascia back. Now our hitch will be secured with the factory bolts I removed, going into the original location. Now with an extra set of hands, we'll pull back on our fascia and raise the hitch in a position. On the passenger side, we'll place our exhaust hanger under the hitch and secure it and the hitch to the vehicle, with the factory bolts. Now we'll just tighten down our bolts. And now we'll torque our hardware to the amount specified in the instructions. Now we can raise our exhaust back up and reinstall our hangers. We went ahead and used the provided zip ties per the instructions, to secure our fascia tab, to the hitch. We did this on both sides. And now to complete look at in showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Class 1 Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 24967, on this 2016 Toyota Prius-V.

Awesome product, newer hidden design which is comparable to another Company hitch that cost twice as much. My Prius V does not have a plastic cover so no trimming to deal it. One thing I suggest is on the exhaust side, the two mounting bolt that are suppose to be reuse to secure the hitch become shorter due to the added thickness. My Machanic worried that might give it less strength so he went and got me two longer bolts and not reuse the original. Notice these bolts from Toyota has 4 lines marking on top, that mean it is a grade 8 bolt, if you gonna replace it, it should that grade or stronger. I use grade 10 bolts. Overall a very good hitch with great value. 488492

How is my product working after one year? Well, no bikes have fallen off.

product worked great. Instructions could be clearer, especially where to cut. etrailer staff are awesome. This is the second hitch I've purchased for a prius, based on their recommendation and I'm not disappointed. I will go to etrailer in the future. 573427

The hitch works great and looks great. The only problem I had was cutting out the cover under the car. The pictures and directions weren't that clear. It was more of a guessing game and that probably took the longest portion of installing the hitch. It would be helpful if they cleared that up a little bit. 508919

Perfect fit for 2015 Prius V. Quite stealthy. Unable to self install as I lacked exhaust hanger tool. But trailer rental place did it for $48 w/o wiring. Your wire kit is vehicle specific and better than theirs and I did that part. Will use it to pull light trailer with train modules to shows or bicycle rack. 551792

I had the 1 1/2” receiver installed by my mechanic. Installation cost $159. Fit my bike carrier well. 722918

Installed quickly and easily by a friend. Used the next day for a 300 mile trip and worked like a charm Next test will be with two bikes. If you don't look for it, you may not even notice it. 695674

this hitch fit perfectly on my 2017 Prius V. My wife and I are 72 years old and we put it in and wired it together. This is our second install. The first draw-tite was on our 2004 Corolla. All went well. We are just getting too old to be crawling around on the floor! Merv and Charlotte Smith 664657

Good trailer hitch and fairly simple to install. Unfortunately, it doesn't include the bolts that you need. One of the bolts that they instruct you to reuse wasn't long enough and I had to go on a wild goose chase to purchase a longer one. All the videos regarding trailer hitches share that you will also receive new bolts for the install. 545275

Great fit and finish. I like how this hitch is tucked neatly behind the bumper. Very easy to install. Good quality and the best value on the market. Will be using it to carry my bikes to San Diego's finest trails. 466316

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Comparing Trailer Hitches for 2017 Toyota Prius v
  • The difference between the two hitches you were asking about for your 2017 Toyota Prius v are that the Draw-Tite # 24847 has a visible crosstube while the Draw-Tite # 24967 does not, as you can see in the accompanying photos. As for the distance from the end of the receiver to the edge of the bumper that can vary slightly though as you can see from the photos the difference between the two hitches will be minimal. The other difference is that because the Draw-Tite # 24967 has a hidden...

  • Comparing Trailer Hitches that Fit a 2017 Toyota Prius v
  • We currently carry four trailer hitch receivers that fit your 2017 Toyota Prius v and the best one for you depends on what you're using it for. For example, the EcoHitch, part # 306-X7192, is the best option if you're going to be using the hitch to carry a cargo carrier or bike rack because the hitch pin hole sits closer to the rear bumper so whatever is in the hitch has a higher chance of clearing the bumper. It's also the only one that's a 2 inch receiver and there are more hitch accessories...

  • Hitch Bike Rack Recommendation for 2015 Toyota Prius
  • With the Curt Class I hitches you have to use the stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack otherwise you will void the hitch warranty. The easy solution for that is to go with a Draw Tite hitch part # 24967 instead as this hitch does not have that requirement and would work well with the Curt bike rack part # C18085 you mentioned. In this price range the Hollywood Racks # HR200Z is a way more solid option that I would recommend for you over the Curt. This...

  • Best Option to Carry 3 Bikes On 2010 Toyota Prius
  • Out of all of the trunk mounted bike racks we have, the Thule Raceway PRO 3-Bike Rack # TH9002PRO is the least likely to damage your vehicle while in transport. If I had a bike I would put this unit on my car based my experience with this product and based on customer interactions. The Raceway features sleeves and pads to protect the trunk area. The Sure-Tight cables and hooks are coated with durable nylon, and the cables have movable sleeves that help protect your Toyota Prius paint...

  • Which Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver Fits a 2015 Toyota Prius
  • The Draw-Tite # 24847 is a fit for your 2015 Toyota Prius. The # 24808 is actually for older models of the Prius from 2004 to 2009. Another hitch that fits is part # 24967. The insallation is more detailed and time consuming but in the end I prefer this style. It's a much cleaner look because the cross tube is hidden behind the Toyota's bumper and all you see is the receiver tube underneath. Look at the darker colored Prius in the pictures, as opposed to the blue Prius where you can...

  • What Do Hitches for 2017 Toyota Prius V Weigh

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid
  • The Curt hitch part # C11276 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 2014 Toyota Prius Plug In and would do a great job to carry a bike rack. The only other solution I might recommend instead for your vehicle is the Draw Tite part # 24967 since only the hitch opening hangs below the rear bumper which gives a more concealed look and also gives better ground clearance. While we don't carry the Allen bike rack you mentioned it's not a terrible choice. For a similar priced bike...

  • Draw-Tite hitches # 24847 and # 24967 are both good choices for your 2010 Prius but if it were me I would choose # 24847. They share the same 2000-lb maximum towing capacity and both are easy no-drill installations. The only noteworthy difference between them is that model # 24967 will be slightly less noticeable on the car since its main cross tube is hidden behind the rear fascia. If you don't care about this then you can save a few dollars by going with hitch # 24847 which is shown...

They are equally easy to install and have the same capacity ratings. You are correct that the receiver will stick out about...

This is a Class l hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. All non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps, like part # 18050. • What are my Options for Bike Racks for a 2017 Toyota Prius C?
  • You have a couple of options for the 2017 Toyota Prius C, both hitch mounted and trunk mounted racks are available. A hitch mounted rack requires installing a trailer hitch onto your vehicle, but adds flexibility to your vehicle's abilities to haul loads in addition to conveniently carrying your bikes. • The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 24967, that you mentioned, as well as the others available for your 2013 Toyota Prius C, are all Class I trailer hitches. Due to the low tongue weight capacity of the Class I hitch, both the bike rack and the hitch manufacturers agree that no more than two bikes should be carried on a Class I hitch. Adding additional bikes would place too much weight too far away from the receiver opening, and would exert enough leverage on the hitch that it could...

Then you could use Curt cargo carrier # C18110 with cargo bag # 59102. This is as close as you can get to an enclosed cargo carrier on a Class I trailer hitch.
