Video Transcript for Swagman Locking Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin Review

Hi everyone. It's Evangelina here at etrailer. And today we are looking at our Swagman anti-rattle hitch bolt for inch and a quarter and two inch hitches here at each trailer. If you have a base bike rack, like our Swagman XTC two that does not have a locking hitch pin. This is a great option to upgrade to. Or if your bike rack already has a locking hitch pin bolt but you lost it or it's damaged, it's broken or he needs to replace it.

You can get this one as well. We have here the old anti-rattle bolt and we have here the new anti-rattle bolt. So as you can see here it's already a big difference, from the old to the new. The old one is a lot shorter and it only has a clip for the pin while the new one has, is a much longer and has this lock at the end. Let's take a look at the anti-rattle bolt itself.

This is made of triple Chrome plating. So you can see here that it's not only very shiny but that pleading helps prevent rust and corrosion. Allowing your lock to last a bit longer. As for the lock itself we have this hard lock that Springs onto your bolt. As you can see, it just pops into place.

At the end, we have this nice best cover. That is one very easy to remove. You don't have to be pulling a piece of the way, you just push that and then access to your locks. And this helps prevent dirt and grime and dust from getting into there and making your lock less effective. With the keys attached, the entire system is eight and a half inches long.

That's just something to keep in mind. In case you don't have enough clearance around your hitch. A couple of things to note before you upgrade to this anti-rattle bolt or use it as a replacement is that this fits your Swagman bike racks that are an inch and a quarter large, or have a two inch sleep on top of their inch and a quarter shank. Now, if you do have a solid two inch bike rack then I highly recommend getting the other Swagman anti-rattle bolt that fits that exact bike rack. Now I did talk with my coworkers about this lock and some other locks. We did a little comparison ask some questions if you want to watch it. And that's coming right up. So we have bunch of different lockss here. I got fooled, just to try out and see the differences. Do you have any like questions in particular about and the last while of the yard down hereOkay, so we've got two Swagman locks and we've got who out locks. As I understand it, one is for the inch and a quarter rack. The swagman and And the other one is for two inch racks. The swagman. And one of them will not work in a two inch rack. No. So the thing is with this shakes for a solid two inch racks is that like this, we have the XC two which is an inch and a quarter and a two inch sleeve. So that fits into this one, because the full for the hitch pin, the hitch pin hole is smaller. So the thread really catches on. So if you do have a two inch solid rack, like for the clot you have the quest Sherpa, then it's not going to work with that because then you just have the smaller inch and a quarter hitch pin lock rattling around inside that hole. And that would not be very secure, correctIt wouldn't no, you lose all the anti-rattle function and it will put more stress on your lock itself because that's, what's holding in place. It's not evenly distributed anymore. Now the two Swagman locks are anti-rattle. Are the locks anti-rattleThey're not. So we have the here, the hitch pin locks. So they're not anti-rattle locks. And, as you can see, there's no thread on there. There's nothing for anti the anti-rattle function. It just sticks in there and then it's locked down. Now, that's because a lot of the clots, Oh, it's over here. A lot of the clots bike racks, have their own anti-rattle knob at the end though. So some of your bike racks don't need an anti-rattle hitch lock. They just need a hitch pin lockWhich all of the the just as long as they fit inside the hitch they'll basically work on any of the bike racks you have as long as they don't need a specific type of like a anti-rattle bolt or anything like that. So I guess that would make it a little bit more universal. Yeah. So the racks are fairly universal but the Swagmans are pretty much going to be specific. The Swagman racks. Yeah. The thread pattern is very important cause I know the different bike racks have their own different thread patterns and that's what causes the anti-rattle to happen. So if you use a different lock on your bike rack you can risk damaging your lap and or your bike rack. You definitely don't want to force it in. If it doesn't go in, you just stop, rightYes, yes. Yes. Or else it would have to end up replacing your shank for your bike rack. Sure. If you want to compare though this is the anti-rattle bolt that comes with the XC two. So there's no locking function on the XCT cause it's like your base bike rack. So for people that want to upgrade to the anti-rattle hitch lock, you can see how much of a difference there is, in size, quality, it's in lock. This is what you're upgrading from. Yeah there is quite a big difference there. Yeah. This amount, there's the same amount of thread though. But it's the lock itself is different. And quality is definitely very telling between these two. Maybe it's just cause it's universal but the Swagmans are definitely way, way better made compared you want to give the little shake test with this one, you can without the keys. The first thing we noticed when he put it in a lock was how wobbly it is, inside the lock. I don't like that. Yeah. Yeah. It definitely feels a lot different compared to when you have the Swagman in. So there's a, there's a big difference in feel as well. Not to mention even between the cuatro, this one definitelyis a lot better. I think just the design in general, is a lot more appealing than just the big tumbler like they have on this one. Which I mean, it will work `for sure. But compared that to just like, this looks a lot more streamlined. It's something that I'd actually want to have on my vehicle and on my bike rack. Yeah. So-And that is the two inch one curout. Have y'all had experience with attaching like a hitch lock on your bike racks or your cargo carriers. Can you run through it quickYeah. So, like for these the main thing with this though is you need a tool to tighten it down since it is an anti-rattle bolt, which is why I also recommend picking up the performance tool and sack it because that just makes my leg a lot easier. We just put it in and tighten it as much as he can then use your socket or your tool to really tighten it down. And then you lock it into place. So this is nice because you can't remove the keys until you have the lacks in the spring. So that means you don't lose your lock until yeah. Another good thing, Oh, go ahead. You wouldn't need a tool at all for the curout ones they just slide right in. They do just slide right in . So that's one thing that's, that's a pro for this type of-It's quicker to get on. So if you're in a hurry. It just slide right on, and then you just pop that right into place let's keep that right off. So you're not leaving anything down. I will say though, that we do have kits luckily for the Swagmans, that come with a cable lock, which is really nice. And that's always super useful. If you have, like, we have two bikes on there maybe they're a little bit more expensive. It just gives you a little bit more, you know, safe of mine. And the fact that they are both keyed alike is super nice. That's nice that you can use one key for both locks. So like after you taken down your, your interlock that's when you put the cable in. Yeah, right there. And then you lock it into place with this. That's another reason why they're a little bit longer too so that you have space for that keyboard. Sure. Yeah. Anytime I would recommend these though. I always recommend getting the performance we'll ask. And what size of ranch is that againSo this uses E three fourth stock. It's not sure what drive it is though. But at least if you're able to get a three fourth socket, it'll work on these. Yeah. And most people will usually have if they have some kind of socket set up they'll have the three fourths on them. But if you happen, not to you can always just pick it up with us, which is nice. Apparently, you did a very good job by displaying all the difference between all four locks. Looks like you tried in mind having an advantage and a disadvantage depending on what you are doing. It says, yeah. At first I wasn't so sure about the hitch pin style but it is a lot faster to use. So if your bike already has an anti-rattle knob on it, why notSure. Yeah. Okay, Well, thank you very much for showing us that. Thank you for calling and the question. All right will you take care. You too, thanks bye everyone. To start your install, of your hitch pin lock. You just need to reach over to your hitch and insert it in get that anti-rattle bolt in there and then start tiny it down and just your fingers. Once you have it, typed it down. As much as you can you can use the included tool with your bike rack or you can pick up a performance wrench with a three four socket just to make your life a little bit easier and tighten it down from there. Once your bowl is as tight as you can get it you can then use your lock and this has a spring. So all you need to do is put it in there and push against your lock. It snaps into place. Then just take your keys out and put your dust cover back on there. You can see how our luck is secure. My final thoughts about this anti-rattle bolt with its lock, if you really want to protect your bike rack this does a great job of doing that as it does deter theft since you have a lock in place, but also it protects itself. Its plating helps protect it from rust and corrosion. It's hitch lock here has an actually working dust cover. So it all works together just to have it last a little bit longer and keep your bike rack a little bit more safe. I'm a big fan of it. And I definitely recommend it. If you want to upgrade from your old anti-rattle bolt or replace your old or missing one. Works perfect on my Swagman bike rack. Adds peace of mind, knowing rack is secure, so an outing won’t be ruined by loss of property.

Purchased 3 items from etrailer (Swagman-S64650, Hitch -24902, Anit-Rattle Lock -S64029)- Product review below etrailer review (both get similar star rating) Decided to use etrailer based in their support videos and upfront information. For example: on some products I reviewed they provided (in the title info ) Class I or II. For other retailers you had to dig deep into description. Being a novice at the ratings it not only educated but prevented incorrect part ordering. I will not hesitate to use etrailer based on the above and AFTER the purchase support Nothing complicated/easy to use. Upon initial check it does seem to reduce "wobble/rattle" of mounted Swagman-S64650 bike rack.

I'm totally new to trailering/hitches, and I learned a ton from this site. Hopefully this comment will help someone in a similar situation. Anyway, two things attracted me to this product: anti-rattle and locking. Anti-rattle apparently means it's a threaded bolt instead of a smooth pin. I think this is important for my application - a bike carrier, being driven long distance at highway speed then through areas with SUPER rough roads. Be aware: Cylindrical locks are not highly secure. (google for "pen open kryptonite") The pin is also *really* long, and that makes it vulnerable to cutting. (bolt cutters, hacksaw, whatever) But it's good enough for what I'm after - making sure someone needs to jump through at least a couple hoops to steal my bike while I am in the restroom or whatever. Also - at least for my bike carrier, there is another pin that needs to be locked to provide security. A visit to my local auto parts store got me what I needed, but of course it's another key to keep track of and I . A set like 2848DAT, but with an anti-rattle pin, would have been ideal for me. In my picture, on the left you can see the product installed in a standard 1.25" bike rack (S64650) - and how far the pin sticks out. In the center of the picture you can see the second lock I needed.

2012 Juke while traveling 1500 miles the bikes stayed put. After going about 800 miles we needed to tighten all the bolts again. This stopped the bikes and rack from swaying back and forth. The bikes and rack did bounce somewhat but with all the tie downs and the hook that were provided they never left the rack. The rack was easy to put together. Bikes were very easy to lift on and off. We can also use the same rack with our truck with the attachment that came with it.

I love my 2-bike rack. It’s very light, yet holds my bike so well. The vertical bar folds down so you can open the truck. So easy to sling my bike on and off.

Replacing the threaded hitch pin with a locking threaded hitch pin was a no brainer in keeping our bikes and bike rack more secured from the bad guys. etrailer delivered the new pin in a timely manner and it works great.

I'm happy with this product. It's not to heavy for a 71 year old to attach to the receiver. Easy for me to operate. Nothing negative to say about it

Received the bike rack shipment today and did a partial assembly, following the easy to understand instructions. Plan on completing the installation on the vehicle tomorrow. We were concerned on possible missing parts as the package was badly damaged - see pics - but all were there and we are very satisfied. Suzanne L.

They say locks keep honest people out. I'm not even sure this could keep out a Sunday school teacher. First, the pin itself is machined from a regular old bolt (very soft steel) and not hardened at all. Second, this thing is about 2" wider than it needs to be, allowing someone with bolt cutters or a hacksaw to easily access the shank to make quick work out of it. This does not provide any more peace of mind to me over the standard anti-rattle pin with a threaded shank, since a thief would still need a wrench. As always though, prompt delivery from eTrailer.

Works well. Bolts through Hitch receiver so you can snug it down to avoid rattling. Locking cap just spins around unless unlocked, so about impossible to remove.

Easy to assemble and install on the hitch. It works great, relatively easy to get the bikes on and off the rack. I transported the bikes from upstate NY to Florida last spring with no problems, no sway, no rattle (I also purchased the locking, anti rattle threaded hitch pin). I'll be transporting the bikes again this year to Florida with no worries. Highly recommend this bike rack.

I am very pleased with the Swagman XTC-2 platform bike rack. I can easily mount two bikes and there is plenty of room to clear the rear mounted spare tire on my 2009 Toyota Rav4. There is 6 1/2" of clearance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear mounted spare tire cover on my vehicle. I can fully open my rear door when the bikes are not on the rack. I would order from this website again.

Locking anti rattle hitch pin was a replacement for a non-rattle hitch pin. Hitch pin holds our bike rack in place with very little movement when traveling.

Thanks for your excellent service in delivering my bike rack and then the hitch lock. Your site is so informative so I was able to make good decisions about buying the products I was interested in. The delivery was right on time and customer service was great. Thanks

Built solid and easy to use. I use this lock to hold the cable for our bicycles during transit. It does freely spin when you are trying to lock or unlock it so you might need your other hand to hold it steady. Not a big deal but a tad bit difficult to do when the bicycles are in the way.

We purchased everything we need to transport our bike;, hitch, bike rack, locking hitch pin, hitch cover. Everything shipped quickly and was of the highest quality. Since we are newbies to transporting bicycles, the product descriptions and ratings were incredibly helpful! We are using all products purchased and are more than satisfied with them, as well as the ease of purchasing from etrailer.

Product works as advertised! Keeps my Swagman XTC-2 bike rack well secured to my trailer hitch. Four Stars! I would have given it 5 out of 5 stars if it had come standard with the bike rack. I don't think this should be an extra cost item on a pricey bike rack like this one.

Comments
I have a 2nd bike now, so the rack and lock are getting plenty of use. - However, I still believe the lock should be a standard feature that comes with the bike rack.Cheers

This works beautifully on my Swagman XTC-2 carrier, making it very stable with this locking hitch pin in place. Very pleased. Indeed, as noted on some of the other comments, the shaft is quite long and does extend a bit beyond the side of my 2" receiver when installed, making it conceivably subject to being hack-sawed off by a determined thief. My (rather simplistic) solution...stacking steel washers between the side of the receiver where the bolt exits, all the way to the locking barrel...it takes about 25 or so. Cheap but effective.

Comments
Dont stack washers or anything else in there! I just bought the same lock and thought about that too. But if you do, a thief can simply thread the pin out with a socket and the lock will pop right off due to all of the washers pushing against the hitch and the lock mechanism.

Purchased the bike carrier a year ago. While we are not avid hard-core bike riders, it is very nice to be able to take our bikes with us when we do go up in to the mountains or over to the beach for the weekend! This product fit our needs perfectly. We have it installed on a VW Tiguan and have had no issues with it.

  • Which Trailer Hitch Pin Lock Will Fit a Thule Roadway Bike Rack
Many companies, like Thule, use their own in-house design for parts and accessories. The only locking hitch pin/anti-rattle device that will work on Thule Roadway Bike Racks, like TH912XT, TH914XT, or TH915XT, would be the Thule brand. The bike racks have a uniquely threaded hitch pin hole that matches the design of the lock. You would need Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device, # THSTL2. I have included a link to a video review of this lock for reference.
