Video Transcript for Review of Malone Trailer Hitch Lock - Rack Specific Locks - MPG2174

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at Today, I'm gonna take a look at the anti-rattle hitch lock for the Malone Cargo Carriers or bike racks. Now this anti-rattle hitch lock will work on your Malone cargo carriers or the Malone bike racks that have a one and a quarter inch or two inch shank. It does include everything shown here on the table. It'll include the threaded bolt with the washer. The lock housing on this end.

The two keys and this bolt is threaded, and that's to provide anti-wobble to the carrier. And then on this end has a lock housing, which will give you a locking capacity at the hitch. Basically, when you install this, this will thread into the shank of the cargo carrier, the bike rack, and it gives you the anti-wobble feature, and the lock. You can use it or you can use it without the lock, whichever you prefer. The lock will just give you added security, but just to show you how to remove it, you'll see on this end where the lock is, you'll slide up that little door, take your key, insert it right in there.

Just like that. Twist it and it comes right off just like that, and now you're ready to insert this. And as we said, you can put this in, tighten it down, and just use it as an anti-wobble. And then if you want the extra security, just take this and install it. Now, the key won't come out once this slack housing is off the bolt, and that's to keep you from losing your keys.

It'll stay in there. But to install it, all you have to do is once this is installed, slide this on. Push it. Slide your key out and just like that, it's locked. It does have a nice corrosion-resistant coating on it.

The metal key housing is all a nice reinforced metal housing. Now the bolt diameter is a half inch. The bolt length, we're gonna go ahead, and take the housing off so we can measure the bolt length but the bolt length will be measured from under the head of the bolt to the very end. So you should be able to see if we put a ruler on that, right at four inches long. Towing capacity for this lock is 10,000 pounds. But again, just to install it, slide it right on. Slide your key out, push that down and you're all ready to go. (throat coughs) But that should do it for the review on the anti-rattle hitch lock for the Malone Cargo Carriers or bike racks.

It was hard to find the right replace lock but fortunately the lock fit the old pin so Im happy!!

I use it all the time, or most times it is on the care with my bike rack.

It works great. I have had other people with Nissan Altimas wanting to know where I got mine. I actually used mine Sunday and Monday for my bike rides. My son is wanting to order one for his 2015 Audi All road.

by: not buy. The lock is very stiff, and I broke the key off in it trying to unlock it

Tucker, was this when it was fairly new or did it sit outside and possibly have any corrosion or debris in it? Did you use any graphite lube or WD40 as preventive maintenance?

The only problem I have with this is the key doesn't seem to want to unlock and it spins in the barrel complete 360. I think it might even be broken as the last time I used it was in Aug 2019 and I haven't been riding my bike so I don't use the rack to use this lock. But these folks asked me to do a review one year later and here I am and sorry it's not the best rating, but it is an honest review.

Secure, easy to use, peace of mind when combined with cable lock that is part of bike rack as well.

As usual etrailer had what I needed. The Anti-Rattle hitch lock for Malone cargo carriers worked perfect for my 2012 Transit Transporter platform bike rack. Thanks Sara E.

Perfect order! This part fit the trailer hitch for my Saris bike rack. Exactly what I needed. And the service and expediency from etrailer was top-notch.

Excellent product, delivered in a timely manner. This anti rattle hitch lock for bike racks was better than original equipment. E trailer never disappoints!

Perfect fit for my sportrack that I lost the Hitchlock for.

Excellent product at an affordable pric e!

Still working great!

Thank you

  • How To Haul Two 10' Kayaks In The Bed Of A Truck
In order to haul two kayaks in your 2016 Toyota Tacoma without placing them on the roof of your vehicle, you will need to use a load extender such as the Malone Axis Truck Bed and Roof Load Extender part # MPG907 if the bed of your truck is empty. The extender can be positioned for both vertical and horizontal load extensions. In your case, you will want to place the kayaks flat in the bed. This will not interfere with your tri-fold tonneau cover and will safely allow you to haul the two...

  • Cable Lock Recommendation for Use with Malone Hitch Lock
What you could do though is use a cable lock like part # e98891 routed through your bike frames and back to the safety chain loop on your hitch as an anti-theft deterrent. I wish Malone had another option for a lock but at this time they do not.

  • Locking Hitch Pin Compatibility Between Bike Rack Manufacturers
The Thule Vertex 2 Bike Rack TH9028XT is a nice bike rack. Unfortunately each manufacturer has a different threaded hitch pin to use as a lock and anti-rattle device for their bike racks and unfortunately they are not compatible with each other. Each manufacturer make sure their hitch pin is slightly different to ensure their product gets used for compatibility and warranty purposes. I recommend using the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device # THSTL2 to secure your rack. The...

  • Does Malone Runway HM4 Bike Rack Tilt Down Freely
The Malone Runway HM4 Bike Rack for 4 Bikes # MAL82VR does not have a stopping or lock point; when you pull the spring pin it will in fact tilt down, and the pin will need to be re-inserted at the correct position when tilting it back up. So really the tilting feature would be best suited for two people when using the Malone Runway # MAL82VR. This is a really nice option for a 4-bike rack though, and even comes with locking knobs on the arms to help protect your bikes. The HM4 comes with...

  • Is the Malone Runway Bike Rack for 4 Bikes a Good Rack to Hold Two Adult Bikes and Two Kids Bikes?
The Malone Runway Bike Rack for 4 Bikes # MAL82VR will fit your two adult bikes and your two kids bikes with 20 inch and 24 inch wheels. This is a great rack for cross country road trips because the padded hooks on sliding arms hold bikes securely by the frame. If you have an unconventional frame or really small children's bikes, you will have to purchase a Malone Bike Adapter Bar for Women's, Children's, and Alternative Frame Bikes # MAL82VR. Also, the 9 inches from the center of the hitch...

If you are still needing a hitch, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11406 is a confirmed fit for your 2018 Honda Fit and would allow you to use the Swagman rack. The Swagman Chinook...

This carrier has a folding option when not in use and will easily secure your cooler and any other cargo you desire. This carrier is 6-1/2 inches tall or 5-5/8 inches deep and will give you multiple tie down options for straps like # EM05710. I recommend using the Hollywood Racks Threaded Hitch Lock # HRLHPT with having a 3-1/2" span. I have a perfect solution for you! But unfortunately the Curt Premium 4 Bike Rack # C18064 along with any other hanging bike rack does not have the ability to tilt while bikes are loaded. For this feature, you will need to go with a platform bike rack. I think a great option for you would be the Malone Runway Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches # MAL82VR. In general a hitch-mount bike rack offers some compelling advantages over a trunk-mount type. These include the fact that with a hitch installed on your car you can also use other hitch-mount items such as a hitch cargo carrier. Also, hitch-mount racks do not place any weight load on a car's thin sheet metal, glass or plastic trim components. This rack type also gives you more options in the platform style of carrier which supports the bikes at their wheels. For a hitch, you can choose...
