CURT Trailer Brake Controller - C24MV

Highlights

  • Custom Fit for Your Vehicle: Works with your vehicle's existing wiring.
  • Smooth, controlled stops: Proportional braking matches trailer and tow vehicle deceleration.
  • Clean, out-of-sight setup: Mounts under the dash so nothing clutters your cabin or hits your knees.
  • Simple smartphone control: Adjust output, sensitivity, and manual override via Bluetooth app.
  • Fast, plug-and-play install: Custom harness connects directly with no splicing or hardwiring.
  • Ready for any rig: Supports 1 to 4 axles and electric trailer brakes.

Features to know about

Stays Out of Sight: Compact Under-Dash Mounting

The Curt Echo keeps the cabin clean by mounting the main unit under the dash. It measures just 3-3/8" long, 3" wide, and 7/8" thick, so it tucks neatly out of view and doesn’t take up knee room or interfere with airbags. Once installed, it’s completely hidden—no bulky controller box cluttering up your interior—while still giving you full control through your smartphone.

Controls Everything from Your Phone: Bluetooth and OneControl App

With built-in Bluetooth, this controller connects directly to your smartphone through the OneControl app. You can fine-tune brake output, adjust sensitivity, and even hit manual override right from your screen without extra knobs or switches. The app also shows a live brake power indicator so you always know how much braking force is being applied. If the Bluetooth signal ever drops, the controller keeps working safely using your last saved settings.

Smooth, Confident Braking: True Proportional Control

The internal 3-axis accelerometer automatically senses how hard you’re braking and matches trailer braking to your input. Light brake pressure gives gentle trailer braking; heavier braking brings stronger response. This proportional control keeps everything smooth and steady while reducing wear on both tow vehicle and trailer brakes. It’s designed for trailers with 1 to 4 axles and works with electric trailer brakes for consistent performance.

Swaps Easily Between Rigs: Multi-Trailer Profiles and Plug-and-Play Setup

If you tow more than one trailer, the OneControl app lets you save multiple trailer profiles so you can switch setups with just a swipe. The included plug-and-play wiring harness connects straight into the factory port under the dash, no wire splicing required. Mount it with the supplied adhesive pad or zip ties, pair it to your phone in about five seconds, and you’re ready to roll.

Built for Safety and Simplicity: Smart Diagnostics and Protection

LED indicators on the main unit make troubleshooting easy by showing connection status at a glance. Built-in reverse polarity and short circuit protection help guard your vehicle’s electrical system during every trip. With a limited lifetime warranty on the controller and a 1-year warranty on the harness, this compact system delivers reliable braking control without complicating your setup.

Specs

Application

  • Application: trailers with 1 to 4 axles (8 brake assemblies)
  • Compatible with: electric trailer brakes

Dimensions

  • Main unit dimensions: 3-3/8" long x 3" wide x 7/8" thick

Smart Device Requirements

Screenshot of the Curt OneControl app interface showing labeled controls including manual override button, brake output indicator, max output, sensitivity adjustment, and vehicle hazard light setting for the Echo under-dash Bluetooth brake controller.

  • 1. Manual Override: This big orange button in the middle of the app is your manual override. Press and hold the button, and the brake controller will smoothly apply the trailer brakes without applying your vehicle's brakes.
  • 2. Brake Output Indicator: The outer ring gives you a visual indicator of how much power is being applied to the trailer brakes.
  • 3. Max Output: Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes.
  • 4. Sensitivity Level: This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer's braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the max output level.
  • 5. Vehicle Hazard Lights: If you turn on your vehicle's hazard lights, there’s a chance the trailer brakes will pulse on and off as the lights flash. Turn this setting on any time you activate your hazard lights to prevent this problem.

Warranty

  • Brake controller: Limited lifetime
  • Wiring harness: Limited 1-year

Note

  • If Bluetooth connection is lost: The brake controller will continue to function safely, using the most recently programmed settings. This brake controller is not compatible, but will not interfere, with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
  • If you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle: Take a look at our exclusive 7- and 4-way brake controller installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately).

What is Proportional Braking?

Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

It was EXACTLY want I needed - didn't have to cut wires or anything. Simply plug and play. Great offer by etrailer to provide this adapter. Great product, great service, great price rate, fast delivery - what else can you ask for?

works great no problems

This is the old obsolete model of Curt Echo which has to be installed under the dashboard. The newer version, which attaches to the electrical system in the rear of the vehicle, is superior and now preferred by most trailer owners. The above version should be taken off the catalog.

by: JimB 08/26/2024

This is my first proportional brake controller. Stopping is much smoother without sacrificing safety. Communication by bluetooth makes for a clean installation.

by: Steve H.02/25/2022

This controller took me literally 15 minutes to install with the required pigtail and my Rubicon with factory towing package installed. When I initially downloaded the app and connected, it actuated and locked the brakes. I simple deleted the app and reinstalled and everything worked normal.

by: Jared H.06/25/2013

This made installing my Trailer Brake Controller a breeze. I had a harness already that came with my truck, but would have to get the connector and pins to put on it to mate it up to the controller. This was already done and ready to go. 2 minutes time to installt he brake controller and have it ready to go.

by: Chris10/03/2022

Was not aware this device draws on the battery constantly. I don't daily drive my truck and have had to replace the battery twice in one month due to being drained below the point where they could be recharged. $[XX] later and this controller removed, I've not had any problems with the battery

by: Coltin06/28/2015

I bought the brake controller and wore harness it came fast and was super easy to install and used it the next day to tow my at and trailer and it worked perfect I would deffinitly recommend this brake controller to anyone it's a great but for the low price

by: Scott09/18/2022

This brake controller has to be unplugged when not in use or it drains the battery in a few days. I had to have a electrical test done in my vehicle ($XXX). The etrailer tech said the test was done incorrectly. The Chevy dealer claims it was accurate. I’m left with a problem.

by: Earl 08/21/2023

Needed a brake controller I could rely on because I was pulling my camper to a site at the top of a 25% grade within a few days. Unit plugged right into the harness for the factory brake controller (with the adapter cable) on my 2014 Ford F-150,and worked perfectly. Bluetooth connectivity works through the app (rather than through the phone's "settings" icon),and connects instantly. I'm very pleased with this product.

A good product for the price. etrailer has always been great to order from, product ratings, instructions, fast delivery, and variety.

As first time truck and pop-up trailer users, we initially purchased a cheaper brake controller that required drilling the dash. This is a new truck, so we decided to switch and spend more for the Bluetooth. etrailer was easy to work with for a return, and the Bluetooth brake controller is fantastic - so easy to use with our new trailer!

by: Chris 08/20/2022

I really wanted a trailer brake controller that I didn’t have to stick an ugly knob/box hanging off my dash. This was my solution and it works perfectly. Plugged right into my Honda Ridgeline existing plug, and easily connected to the app on my phone. Nice setup.

by: Paul08/29/2022

I was looking for a trailer brake controller that did not require a permanent mounting to the dash or center console of my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. I initially considered the wireless bluetooth controller from Curt Echo that plugs directly into the 7-pin outlet next to the tow hitch. However, reviews from individuals that tow RV trailers identified that particular option prevents the 12v battery on the trailer from charging off of the TV while connected. This would limit the RV utilization during long trips involving boondocking.
The Curt Echo under-dash controller seems to solve that problem and uses the same user interface as the Curt Echo.
Easy to install and operate; problem solved!

by: Michael 04/05/2023

Easiest install ever !
Plug and play.
App is easy understand and use.
My favorite is with the app and on selected active profile you can see the amount of brake amount is being applied to the trailer when the vehicle brakes are applied. I also install the manual override button. FYI: you don’t need the app on your phone open for the controller or the manual override button to work. Also another nice feature of the manual override button is the size about the size of a quarter, uses a CR2032 battery and the battery level is displayed in the app.

by: Eric12/29/2018

I purchased a Curt brake controller from the Chevy dealership and when it arrived it was a controller and a hand full of wires to splice into my system. I got a hold of etrailers and the staff was pleasant and sold me what I actually wanted from the dealership. Now I know to call these guys for all my trailer wiring needs.

by: James 12/19/2023

This was relatively easy to install under the dash of our 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, especially since ours has the factory Trailer Tow Package and therefore an existing pigtail connector ready to connect to the brake controller. The Curt wiring adapter made it super easy to connect the Brake Controller to the vehicle's wiring harness. The controller was easy to calibrate and worked seamlessly while we're towing a rented trailer. We used a dedicated (older) cell phone to operate it while we're towing to avoid any potential interference from other apps rather than using our regular phone on which we receive phone calls texts, etc. This was our first time towing a trailer and this easy-to-use Brake Controller helped make us feel safe and comfortable. Highly recommended.

by: Brandon12/07/2017

No problems. Plug and play.

by: Mandy04/26/2017

Easy install with factory 7way plug didn't need any extra not included in kit. 02 Chevrolet 2500HD and pull an aluminum 3 horse gooseneck trailer, this brake system works great so far loaded and unloaded. Mounted nicely out of way to the dash under shifter.

Im still very happy with the product i purchased. Works great!! I pull a 3 horse gooseneck aluminum trailer behind my 02 Chevy 2500 4x4 and have no problems stopping even fully loaded down.. thank you for checking in with me..

by: Alan03/12/2024

Do not buy either the Curt Under-Dash or plug-in Wireless brake controllers until Lippert fixes the phone app. I’ve used both happily with the old ECHO Smart Control app. I could use the remote manual button with the phone app not even running. As one would reasonably expect the button talked to the controller directly via Bluetooth. The new OneControl Auto app must be running and in the foreground to use the manual remote! And the most recent version of ECHO Smart Control is non-functional, it just tells you to install OneControl Auto.

by: Marc 02/02/2025

Plugged into fuse panel no problem and allowed an easy hookup to brake controller. I had to add a 12V wire from the engine bay fuse panel to the 7 way bumper connector.

by: Matthew 11/25/2023

The break controller worked seamlessly. Profiles are easy to set up and it has very reliable Bluetooth connectivity with my phone. Installation was really easy on my Honda Pilot!

by: Jim J.07/09/2016

Trailer brake controller was very easy to install and works great with my trailer.

  • Wiring Brake Controller to Under Dash Wiring of 2021 Ford Ranger
We had the chance to install a brake controller in a similar Ranger as your 2021 model and when using standard brake controller wiring like with the # C51515 to install the Curt Echo Mobile # C27JR the yellow/orange goes to the black wire, the blue wire is going to go to the blue wire, the white wire is going to go to the white wire, and the violet with white stripe goes to the red wire.

Generally when the Curt Echo Under-Dash # C27JR says the 7-way is disconnected but it isn't, the issue is actually the 7-way is problematic, either on your vehicle or trailer. I'd check to make sure the 7-way on both does not have bent pins, or corroded or damaged in some way.

  • No Power to Trailer Connector on 2002 Chevy Suburban with Curt Trailer Brake Controller
On certain model year Chevy and GMC trucks and SUVs there are some connections that need to be made under the hood to make everything fully functional. It happens on vehicles with or without the factory tow package. Basically, it sounds like the power output to the trailer connector from the brake controller is not run. You will need to manually run it from where the wire terminates under the hood to the back of the 7-Way in the 7 oclock position. You can use wire # 10-1-1 sold in increments...

  • Brake Controller Installation on 1999 GMC Pickup
It will depend on which truck you have. 1999 was a split model year for GMC pickups. They offered both the C/K series which was a carryover from the 1998 model or the Sierra which was an all-new body style. Then, to install a 7-way trailer connector and install the brake controller, you'll...

  • Troubleshooting Curt Brake Controller Installation in 1990 Chevy Silverado
If your brake controller is a time-delay type like the Curt Venturer # C74VV it should activate the trailer brakes either when you press the brake pedal or press the manual override lever.
