Features to know about

Restore Confident Stopping Power: Duo-Servo Hydraulic Drum Design

Swapping out tired or uneven brakes for this Dexter hydraulic duo-servo setup makes a real difference in braking feel. The dual-plunger cylinder presses both shoes evenly for stronger, more controlled braking than single-servo or electric designs. Each 12" x 2" assembly is built for 7,000-lb axles and mounts to standard 5-bolt flanges, keeping stops smooth and predictable on every trip.

Consistent Braking in Both Directions: Dual-Servo Cylinder Engagement

Unlike uni-servo styles that lose force in reverse, the duo-servo action here applies equal pressure forward and backward. That means steady braking response every time you hit the pedal. It’s a simple mechanical setup that delivers full contact between the pads and drum without lag or pulsing, giving better control whether you’re moving ahead or easing back into a space.

Straightforward DIY Replacement: Complete Left and Right Assemblies

These assemblies come ready to bolt on with adjuster plugs and mounting nuts included, so you can replace both sides of one axle without extra parts hunting. The setup fits 14-1/2", 15", and 16" wheels and uses standard hydraulic lines with 3/16 fittings. Just torque your fasteners and connect your actuator—no redrilling or modification needed for proper fitment.

Easy Maintenance for Long-Term Performance: Manual Adjust Feature

Periodic manual adjustment keeps these brakes working their best as the shoes wear in. Pop out the adjuster plugs, turn the star wheel until the pads just drag, then back off slightly—simple upkeep that keeps stopping distances short. The included plugs help block dirt and debris from the inner components, so everything stays cleaner between services.

  • PSI Rating for Dexter Hydraulic Trailer Brakes
Hey Bik; since the Dexter Hydraulic Trailer Brakes # 23-336-337 are under 8k the correct psi is 1,000 lbs. Are you looking for an electric over hydraulic actuator? If so, you can use the Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Drum Brakes # HBA-10. If the brakes were rated for an 8k axle or higher you would need a 1,200 psi actuator like the # HBA-12 instead.

  • Comparing the Dexter Duo-Servo Brake Kit with the etrailer Uni-Servo Brake Kit
The Dexter Hydraulic Drum Brake Kit # 23-336-337 that you mentioned are Duo-Servo brakes meaning they deliver the same amount of braking whether you are driving either forward or in reverse. The Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit # AKUBRK-7 that you referenced are Uni-Servo brakes which means that they will still apply braking when going in reverse, just not as much (about 20% total power) as the Duo-Servo brakes. Unless you plan on doing a lot of backing up with your trailer and you need that...

  • Replacement Brake Shoes or Assemblies for 1999 Manning Triaxle Trailer
The Dexter Hydraulic Drum Brake Assembly - Duo Servo - 12" - Left Hand - 7,000 lbs # 23-336 is the Left Hand Assembly, but if you just want the brake shoes use 12" x 2" Hydraulic Trailer Brake Shoe and Lining (One Wheel) # BP04-160. If you want to replace both assemblies on an axle use Dexter Hydraulic Drum Brake Kit - Duo Servo - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 7,000 lbs # 23-336-337.

As long as your truck's controller has the electric over hydraulic actuator compatibility you won't need to change anything in your truck. If it doesn't there are many options that you can use as a replacement. I recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195 if you need a replacement. For your Montana High Country 5th wheel trailer, the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Kit for Drum Brakes - 1,000 psi # HBA-10-252-82 is my recommendation for you. • Does Car Trailer with 7k Axles Need Free-Backing Brake Assemblies as Replacements
If your car trailer has a reverse lock out solenoid on it then you wouldn't need free-backing plates and the part # 23-336-337 would be the set you'd need for each axle. If you do not have a reverse lockout solenoid on your actuator (two wires ran to the back of it) you'd need free-backing plates like the part # 23-342-343 so that you could back the trailer up without the brakes applying.
