Today we're going to take a look at the Dexter 12" Uni-servo Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit. This is a left and right-hand brake assemblies for 5200 pound axles. Now these are hydraulic drum brake assemblies. They're designed for use with surge-type trailer brake actuators. These are a uni-servo design, which is the single-plunger design, right here. These are manual adjustment brakes, so they do require periodic manual adjustment.
Right down here is the adjustment gear. Now it comes as a left-hand, right, driver's brake assembly, right-hand passenger-side brake assembly, and it even includes the mounting lock washer nuts here that are used to install this onto your axle. Now the bolts you'll see that there's no bolts in here but the bolts are usually on the brake mounting flange that's on your axle. The adjuster plugs are included. If you look on the backing plate, you'll see this rubber adjuster plug here in the hole. That simply covers the access hole.
That access hole is what's used to adjust your brakes with, so when you're done adjusting it, you put this plug in. These come with the plugs. What's nice about that, that keeps any dirt or grime from getting into your brake assemblies and off the brake shoes. The dimensions on these brakes are 12" by 2". When you measure them, the 12" is the diameter, which is measured from this shoe all the way across, so if we put a ruler on that, there's your 12" diameter. The 2" would be the width of the pad on the brake shoe, so there's your 2" wide.
Again, I mentioned, you can see there's five holes here. These are designed to fit on a 5-bolt brake mounting flange bolt pattern. Now this does require the use of 12" brake drums, and it will fit wheel sizes from 14-1/2", 15", or 16". These are designed for axles that are rated at 5200 pounds. The last thing I do want to show you is how to tell the difference between your left-hand and right-hand side assemble. On a new assembly, of course, there'll be a sticker that will tell you that, but if the sticker wasn't there, the easiest way to tell is to look at the right shoe length or the pad length.
If you see this shoe goes from here to here and this pad is all the way here to all the way here this is a longer pad; this is a shorter pad shorter pad is your primary shoe. That always faces the front of the trailer, so that will tell you right-hand passenger side. If you look at the left-hand driver's side, it's the same way. Pad goes from here to here, here all the way to here. This is the longer; this is the shorter, so that will tell you it's for the left-hand driver's side. That should do it for the review on the Dexter 12" Uni-servo Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit, left and right-handed brake assemblies for 5200 pound axles.
