Features to know about

Reverse with Ease and Confidence: Free-Backing Design

Backing up a trailer can be a stressful task, especially when your brakes engage unintentionally. With the Dexter Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit, that worry is a thing of the past. Its free-backing design ensures that your trailer brakes won't activate when you're reversing, even if your hydraulic actuator is engaged. This means you can make smooth, uninterrupted movements in reverse, perfect for navigating tricky parking spots or reversing into storage.

Tailor-Made for a Smooth Installation: Universal Fit Across Wheel Sizes

Finding brakes that fit your specific wheel diameter can be a challenge, but the Dexter kit covers a wide range. Designed to accommodate wheels from 14.5 inches up to 17.5 inches, this kit takes the guesswork out of compatibility. Whether your trailer has smaller 14.5" wheels or larger 17.5" ones, these brake assemblies ensure a perfect fit, paired with ease of installation, allowing you to get back on the road quicker.

Tough on the Job: Durable Construction with 5-Bolt Pattern

Nothing beats the confidence of knowing your trailer parts are built to last. The Dexter Brake Kit shines with its robust construction, featuring a 5-bolt pattern that promises a secure and stable attachment. These brakes are crafted to withstand rigorous use, providing reliability during long hauls or heavy-duty chores. With an axle rating for up to 7,000 lbs, they effortlessly handle tough jobs while maintaining top-notch performance.

Stay Clean for Longer: Adjuster Plugs Keep Dirt Away

Dust and grime can quickly wear down brake efficiency, but this feature helps keep your brakes in optimal shape. The kit includes adjuster plugs that shield the access holes, preventing dirt and debris from creeping into the assemblies. This means less maintenance and longer-lasting, dependable brake performance, so you can focus on the road ahead without worrying about sudden breakdowns.

Precision-Engineered Braking: 12” x 2” Drum Size

When it comes to stopping power, precision is key. The Dexter kit boasts 12-inch diameter x 2-inch wide drums that are specifically engineered for consistent, reliable braking. Whether towing heavy loads or just enjoying a leisurely drive, these brakes manage your trailer's speed seamlessly, ensuring safety with every stop. Their meticulously crafted design guarantees effective braking power anytime you need it.

Made Proudly in the USA: Quality You Can Trust

Feel good about your purchase knowing it's made right here in the USA. Dexter's commitment to local craftsmanship means these brakes not only deliver superior quality but also support domestic manufacturing. You can hitch up with confidence, knowing your brake kit has been built to rigorous standards that make it a standout in its class.

  • How Can I Identify an Axle Without a Sticker?
Thank you for the pictures! It looks like you've got some sort of square drop axle on your trailer and if you can't find an identifying sticker, I can still help you figure out what you've got so that you can make the swap to electric brakes on your trailer. It looks like you've got 6 bolts on the wheels, which can help narrow down our search, but we'll need to know what size the brakes on the trailer are and if possible, what size (or number) the inner and outer bearings are on the hubs. If...

  • Recommended Parts Compatible with Dexter P12 7,000 lb Axle
We do not carry the replacement axle for your P12 7K Axle. We do however have the brake assemblies and bearing kit or hub/drum assemblies to assist based on what I can find online for a 7K Dexter axle. You will most likely want the Bearing Kit, 14125A/ 25580 Bearings, 10-36 Seal # BK3-200 to work with your axle and hub/drum assembly. To get the entire replacement assembly, you want the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 12" - 8 on 6-1/2 # 42866UC3-EZ....

It fits the bolt pattern I see in the picture and has the 12 inch diameter you need as well. This is a pair for both sides of the trailer as well. • Will The Free Backing Brakes AKFBBRK-7 Be Compatible With My Current Hubs/Drums?
Hey Tom thanks for your questions. To answer your first question, yes, you can use the # AKFBBRK-7 or the # 23-342-343 free backing hydraulic brake assemblies on your dump trailer. All of these use the same standard 12" x 2" brake shoes. If you are trying to decide between the Dexter brand or our etrailer brand, personally I recommend etrailer brand # AKFBBRK-7. • Replacement 12" Dexter Axle Hydraulic Drum Brake Kit with Parking Brake Lever
The correct replacement for your Dexter Axle 023-340-00 and 023-341-00 brake assemblies is found with the Brake Kit # 23-342-343, but since you want the parking brake lever you'll need the kit # T2351300-200 instead. • Can OEM Brake Controller on 2011 Ford F-350 be Used with Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator
The OEM controller in your 2011 Ford F-350 is actually very similar to the Tekonsha Prodigy brake controllers so you wouldn't need to add an aftermarket controller unless you absolutely wanted to. There should be a setting for electric over hydraulic (EOH) brakes that you choose for this. • Does Car Trailer with 7k Axles Need Free-Backing Brake Assemblies as Replacements
If your car trailer has a reverse lock out solenoid on it then you wouldn't need free-backing plates and the part # 23-336-337 would be the set you'd need for each axle. If you do not have a reverse lockout solenoid on your actuator (two wires ran to the back of it) you'd need free-backing plates like the part # 23-342-343 so that you could back the trailer up without the brakes applying.

The Dexter Hydraulic Brakes # 23-342-343 will work just fine with 16-1/2" wheels, as its actually the hub that determines which wheels work not the brake assemblies. Since you already have 16-1/2" wheels your hub should be rated for them, as most all hubs for a 7,000lb axles are rated for up to 17-1/2" diameter wheels.

We do not have a specific kit but I can help you find all of the parts you need to convert your trailer from hydraulic surge brakes to electric over hydraulic brakes. Generally, disc brakes provide stronger braking action than drum brakes which reduces required stopping distances and increases overall safety. Disc brakes also require less maintenance than drum brakes because they have fewer moving parts. Ultimately,...
