The unique free-backing design, patented by DICO, lets your trailer move in reverse without actuating the brakes. When you begin backing up, the brake shoes are firm against the drum, as in a braking situation. As you continue in reverse, however, the shoes turn with the drum until the lining pressure is released and you are able to back up freely.
These brakes are designed to eliminate friction between the shoes and drum when you are driving in reverse. A trailer breakaway kit will not be effective should your trailer disconnect from your tow vehicle when backing up.

Well this is the second time I am asked to review these meatheads, I called and spoke to a human to make sure my order will be right for my 5th wheel, the first set of brakes they sent me were the wrong ones as the bolt pattern to mount them was wrong, these were returned and after talking on the phone another 40 minutes they finally found the right ones to ship to me, well I received them and they were wrong too, so back to returns and back on the phone, another long talk with sales associate and I was sent my 3rd set of brakes, promising they we’re definitely the right ones, well I received them and opened the box only to find hydraulic brakes, NOT electric brakes like I needed, I then returned these and finally went to my local RV dealer and got the right ones, I’ll never go to e trailer again for anything, your customer service is the worst, try hiring employees with knowledge of what they are selling !
Great replacements for the (almost) 30 year old Dico assemblies with worn out brake cylinders and bearing grease contaminated shoes. Worked well with the old Dico drums too. The reversing feature works great too.
The ordering and shipping process went just fine, however, when I received my package and opened the box I was surprised to see that there was NO material of any kind separating the two wheel assemblies. They were placed one on top of the other and sent to Washington State all the way from Missouri. Needless to say, the part that was on the bottom is all scratched up, and will more than likely rust the entire back side of the assembly. Not cool..... all it would have taken is a flexable piece of foam.
The brakes were identical to ones I had and were of high quality. Very easy and quick to install. Etrailer shipping was fast.

Well made quality brake replacements. Very good parts for the price. Brakes were an exact fit replacement for my 2004 EzLoader trailer.
Item was just as described. Good fit and finish. The corner of one brand new brake shoe was already chipped and loose, wasn’t tickled about that. And the bleeder screws were different on the left and right sides... not a huge deal but still.... attention to detail people. I now have one bleeder screw that takes a 3/8” wrench and another that needs a 10 mm. Again, not a big deal but that’s what reviews are for, the good, the bad and the ugly. I would purchase this product again. Delivery was FAST and FREE!

Both brake pads were cracked upon arrival. Had a trip to lake Powell with the boat trailer so did not have time to return them and they did still function. Not sure if it was poor quality control or just poor packaging as the packaging was destroyed upon arrival. I can’t believe all the parts were still in there to be honest. Undecided if I would order again from etrailer.
Everything’ came in good shape and was delivered quicker than it was scheduled. Order was complete and packed well. Great service and will use again. Thx

Arrived on time and installed easily. Have not yet tested them.
Great Product!
The fit and assembly was perfect with no hassle.
Faster and easier then trying to rebuild the original.
Total assembly time and full bleed about 1.5 hours.

These are great. Saved a lot of time being all assembled, just bolted them on. Used for a year now. Installed on heavy boat trailer. Work great. reassuring as I have to tow up and down some fairly large hills on the way to the lake.
