When you’re packing for a long trip, you want a rack that can handle anything from kayaks and cargo boxes to camping gear. The Yakima LockNLoad Platform Rack gives you that confidence. The large, flat 55" long x 49" wide surface offers plenty of room for oversized or oddly shaped items. Built with a durable aluminum frame and black powder coat, it’s designed for off-road use and tested in the Australian Outback, so you know it’s tough enough for rough terrain and long miles.
Loading a variety of gear doesn’t have to be complicated. The horizontal slats on this platform make it easy to mount clamp-on accessories like bike racks, kayak carriers, or even a rooftop tent. That means you can bring all your favorite outdoor toys on one setup without juggling different systems.
When you want to make the most of your roof space, the built-in channels are ready to help. They let you attach off-road accessories (sold separately) such as perimeter rails, jack holders, spare tire carriers, or jerry can holders. Everything stays in its place, so you can hit the road knowing your setup is solid and your gear is ready when you arrive.
Wind noise can turn a good trip into a noisy ride. This platform includes an integrated wind deflector that helps cut down on drag and reduce noise while driving. It makes highway miles more comfortable whether you’re cruising to the campground or heading cross-country with a full load on top.
You want gear that holds up season after season. The Yakima LockNLoad Platform weighs 43.5 lbs and is made from rustproof aluminum with a black powder coat finish for long-term durability. With a limited lifetime warranty, it’s built for countless adventures—on and off the pavement.
Ratings & Reviews
I am going to include the Landing Pads, Skyline Towers, LockNLoad adapters, and Pivoting Mounts that are all required for my vehicle in this review of the 84" x 54" LockNLoad Platform. First, I had done months of research trying to figure out what would work and meet my needs for a 2008 GMC Yukon XL. Without the help of etrailer's agent, Ashley, I'd probably still be trying to figure things out! Ashley was patient and thorough, she made sure I had all the parts I needed for a fairly complex (and large!)project. I cannot thank her enough!
On to the assembly and installation: Ashley confirmed that following instructions was key to efficient building - I found that combining online instructions with the included hard copies worked best. As an example, the online fastener images and descriptions are far better than the paper ones. Then, having the paper instructions in hand made "in the moment" progress much faster. All of the Yakima parts fit together perfectly, and by methodically following the instructions (I cannot stress this enough!), including pre assembling Landing Pads, Towers, and Pivoting Mounts, there was no need to backtrack. Once I had a day to devote to the project, everything went very smoothly. Placing the large Platform on the mounts does require two people, but the rest was easy for one fairly handy person to accomplish. Making adjustments to be sure the Platform is centered and square to the roof took some time but it's worth it in the end. Again, thanks to etrailer and particularly Ashley! It was a pleasure doing business with you!
Easy to install. First roof rack.
Perfect replacement and fast shipping !
The rack looks to be excellent. The assembly is a nightmare. The instructions are terrible. The design for assembly is flawed. There is a stupid cover over the main bolt that you have to tighten. There is a video on Yakima’s website that kind of tells you how to get around it but not really. A 30 minute job took two hours.
You guys provide great products and excellent customer service.
Thanks
My Yamika roof rack 2018 Grand Jeep Cherokee
I am getting compliments from my neighbors.
Fit our Subaru Forester perfectly. Install was a breeze. For the money I wish they came with the core locks.
Flush mounting for my jeep grand cherokee '18. These were easy to install and very secure.
The landing pads fit the car just fine, but I did have a lot of trouble getting the crossbars into the pockets of the landing pads and then getting the pins to actually expand outward and lock into the pads, I may have to take a Dremel tool and increase the opening of the landing pad slightly.
Easy to install. Not impressed with the fit though. The biggest selling point is being able to remove the towers and leave the pad though. Overall happy with the purchase.
Excellent product . Amazing C.S
Working very in my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2020. They used for the cross bar to support my roof top tent
Great design for a roof rack system.easy to put on and take off. Use it to carry 9-11 foot surf fishing rods. Takes two minutes to put on when I am ready to go fishing.
The landing Pad 18 was very easy to install on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and fit up nicely with my Yakima SkyLine towers.
These crossbars were easy to install and adjust. Be sure to get all the pieces you need. There is no mention of the Landing Pads necessary to use these.
Love the Yakima LocknLoad 55x49 Platform.. would have been nicer if it was just a few inches longer. Fits really well on the 2019 Grand Cherokee.. and looks even better but at highway speeds (60mph+) you will hear it up there... I've also noticed .5 mpg less which is no biggie...I didn't think the Landing Pads (18) were very stable but once in place.. its rock solid!
These towers (Y00148) and the Landing Pads (Y00244) are needed to mount the cross-bars on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep has flush rails, with an open channel along the top.
They are very heavy duty, typical of Yakima stuff.
Worked great.
Not only did etrailer have a necessary component to my new Yakima rack system that no other retailer had in stock, their price was fair and they shipped quickly. Thanks etrailer!
Yakima SkyLine Towers are well-designed and well-executed. They easily fit into the Yakima Landing Pads and form a tight fit when closed. And they also fit nicely into the Yakima JetStream Crossbars when following the Yakima instruction manual and various YouTube videos. I did run into a snag at first where I found the rubber seal on one SkyLine Tower getting caught on the JetStream Crossbar track, but after that I was careful not to let that happen with the other towers.
I find the appearance of the Yakima SkyLine Towers to match their level of quality in materials and design.
I bought a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. To use my Yakima Skyline Towers, I had to install these landing pads in the rack rail attached to the roof. The installation was easy, and the pads serve their purpose. But they don't seem to be engineered as secure as I would like. They have more flexibility than I think they should. The bolt head is over an inch from where it screws into the roof. I think Yakima could have engineered something more secure. In fairness to Yakima, the Jeep rack rail is different than any other rack system I've seen and is incompatible with any other system. But I am assuming that these landing pads will work OK with a full load and that the Yakima engineers have done an adequate job. This summer they will be put to the test for 3,000 miles. Note: the Yakima windshield fairing falls on the glass in the moon roof rendering the moon roof unopenable so long as the fairing is used.
Very nice quality towers. Very heavy duty! They have a cool "snap" on / off mechanism for quick removal and installation.
Amazing quality easy set up fast shipping buy the locks the 4 pack With this fast shipping super impressed
A very sturdy platform for the 2025 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek.
Perfect for our 2021 Subaru Ascent rails with our Yakima LockNLoad platform.
They do what they are supposed to: allowed me to swap out my jetstream bars to a locknload rack on my Timberline towers.
