Question:
I have a 16foot canoe and would like your recommendation for carrying it on top of a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. I would be interested in using it for camping trips and would already be using the hitch for either a trailer or bike rack. Thanks so much. Everything Ive gotten from etrailer has been great!

Thanks for your kind words!
For a great carrier for a 16' canoe on your 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, I recommend using the Yakima KeelOver Canoe Carrier # Y04069. The KeelOver comes with a simple, tool free installation onto your crossbars and already includes all the straps you need to secure your canoe. For your canoe length, you will be able to adjust your crossbars to the required spread of 30" apart. As far as crossbar compatibility, the KeelOver clamps around crossbars that do not exceed 3-1/2" tall x 3-1/2" wide. If you have crossbars already, I recommend measuring the height and width of your bars to make sure they fit within these measurements.
If you need a crossbar system, the setup you needs depends on if you have a bare roof, matte black flush rails, or black and chrome flush rails.
For a bare roof or matte black flush rails, I recommend the following setup:
- Yakima CoreBar Crossbars # Y00422
- BaseLine Towers # Y28TR
- 2 sets of the BaseClip Fit Kit # Y06121
- Yakima Same-Key Lock Cores # Y07204
If you happen to have black and chrome flush rails, I suggest the following:
- Yakima CoreBars # Y00421
- SkyLine Towers # Y53TR
- Landing Pad 18 # Y00244
- Yakima Same-Key Lock Cores # Y07204
With the Yakima CoreBars, you receive the benefits of an extremely aerodynamic design that leads to a quieter ride and increased fuel efficiency. The KeelOver clamps onto these bars perfectly. With the lock cores, you have theft-deterrence on your setup to protect your investment. Since these roof racks provide you with 165 pounds of maximum weight capacity, you can rest assured that you have enough capacity to transport your canoe.
