Over-The-Cab Ladder Rack

Over-the-cab ladder rack

This Erickson ladder rack extends over the roof of your truck to maximize your carrying capacity. It has integrated side rails for load support and for tying down your gear. The extra coverage allows you to carry longer loads without having to worry about overhang. And the added surface area for cargo helps to evenly distribute load weight.

Easy, Clamp-On Installation

Clamp on installation

Sturdy, user-friendly clamps let you mount this rack to your truck bed without drilling or other modifications. Simply position the bases at the corners of the truck bed and clamp them to lips of the truck bed rails. Assemble the upper portion of the rack and attach it to the uprights, then bolt the uprights to the bases. The rack can be installed on short-bed or long-bed trucks.

There are holes in each bed rail clamp that allow you to permanently bolt the rack to your truck bed. Permanent installation will require drilling. Hardware not included.

If you are installing the rack on a truck bed without a bed liner, the bolts for the mounting clamps may cause interference when installing a toolbox. To install a toolbox on a truck bed without a bed liner, trimming of the clamp bolts may be necessary for the toolbox to sit flush on your truck's bed rails.

Load Support and Security

Ladder rack front viewSide rail handles

The ladder rack has integrated side rails that provide load support and multiple tie-down points for securing your cargo. A moveable crossbar in the over-the-cab extension helps provide extra support for the front end of a load. There is a convenient tie-down cleat on each of the rack's 4 vertical uprights to provide additional anchoring points for your truck's load. There is also a handle on each side of the rack at the rear to provide additional leverage and support for easier loading and for accessing that hard-to-reach cargo.

Sturdy Steel Construction

Steel construction

Steel is highly durable, maintains structural integrity, and does not age or decay as quickly as other materials. A black powder coat finish has been added to help resist corrosion, chips, and scratches, and to keep the rack looking new. The nuts and bolts have a yellow chromate plating that helps prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Erickson Over-The-Cab Truck Bed Ladder Rack Installation - 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 we're going to be taking a look at the Erickson Over-the-Cab Truck Bed Ladder Rack, Part Number EN07707. This Over-the-Cab Ladder Rack is going to let you carry some of the longest items such as ladders, pipes and lumber. This over-the-cab extension is going to be one of the longest on the market, adding about 56" from the bed rail to the over-the-cab rail. The middle rail on the over-the-cab extension can be adjusted to accommodate various loads by loosening the bolts on each side and sliding it forward or backward. Now we can have smaller cargo here in the rear such as bags or coolers and strap them down and we still have room in the front for other accessories, or we could slide the rail forward and put those items up there and still have room for ladders and other things here in the back. The raised side rails provide extra support and also act as a load stop to prevent cargo from sliding off the edge of your ladder rack. The side rails can also be used as a tie down point, as well as the hooks here, here and here located on each leg. When you're ready to load it up the side rails will help you get that extra leverage you need to get your heavier, longer cargo up there. They can also be used as a handle to easily get into the back of your truck bed.

Here you can see we've got a 12-foot ladder and there's plenty of room to load it up and be supported at all ends and plenty of tie down locations to keep it nice and secure. From the bed rails to the top of the side rails it's going to be about 33". From the front of the cab extension to the rear of the side bar it's going to be about 136". The width from outside of the rail to outside of the rail is going to be about 55-1/2". It has an 800 pound carrying capacity thanks to its complete steel construction, and black rust resistant coating will help make it last and looking new for a long time. There are two ways you can mount your ladder rack to your truck bed. A permanent installation can be done by drilling out the rails of your truck bed and putting in nuts and bolts.

This would be great for construction work that's going to be done every day on your truck, for those hard-working work trucks.Or you can install it using these J-bolts. This will just clamp right on and requires no drilling whatsoever. The J-hooks would be ideal for those who don't want to put any holes in their truck, may want to take it off at a later point, or don't need to use it every day. Now let's go ahead and show you how to get it installed. Now it may look intimidating with all of this hardware here, but there's actually not that much to it. All the bolts are only a few sizes.

The larger bolts are going to be a 24 millimeter. The medium size will be a 19 millimeter. These nuts here will be 18 millimeter, and the rest will all be 17 millimeter, so you only need a few wrenches and a few sockets to complete this job. You're going to want to leave your hardware loose for your legs, as they need to be adjusted properly to fit your 1500's truck bed. You're going want to grab an extra set of hands or two to help you lift it up on the truck and get your rails lined up with your ladder rack feed. Now we're going to give you a closer look at how we align our feet. Our J-hook goes through this hole here, so when positioning your feet on your bed rails you want to make sure that your J-hook can properly seat underneath your bed rail here.

This is as far forward as we can go on this truck due to our drop-in bed liner. You secure the J-hook with an M12 washer, lock washer and nut.Now we left the hardware loose on our legs because when you're positioning it on the truck to get the alignment we just talked about it slides along this rail here to fit the appropriate size for your bed. With all of our feet in the appropriate location, legs adjusted properly, we're going to go back now and fully tighten down our J-hooks, and we're going to repeat this for all the feet.We want to make sure that our lock washer is collapsed completely to insure that it's tight and secure. Now with our J-hooks tightened down and our feet in place, we just need to go back, make any adjustments you need to make sure that it's square and level by moving the legs, and then tighten down all the rest of your loose hardware. Now with everything tightened down and all secure, we're ready to load it up and hit the road. That completes our look at the Erickson Over-the-Cab Truck Bed Ladder Rack on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

This rack exceeded my expectations. The quality is second to none. Installation was quick and if required, removal is even quicker. Adding this rack to my Nissan Frontier has given me much more functionality and increased capability. Delivery took a little longer than expected, but customer support at etrailer kept me informed and sought alternatives if I couldn't wait. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product or the good folks at etrailer to get it to you. 324037

Love the product, fits just about any truck and is easy to take off. The only thing I didn't like was the assembly instructions. Very hard to read and understand what went where. 400982

Works great. The Erickson ladder rack works great for my business. The only issue was understanding how to put it together, but once that was figured out I’ve had no problems with it.

Used it for mounting roof top tent onto utility trailer. Also used to attached water jugs, propane tank, water tank, cree lights, etc. Also used to carry kayak and atv. Rack is high enough from trailer to carry atv and still carry tent on top. 612757

Excellent build. Sturdy ladder rack. Easier to have 2-3 people assembling the ladder rack as opposed to 1 person. Only issue is the rear top bolt may occasionally come loose, but that may be an error on my end. 5/5 star ladder rack. 470380

This ladder rack has been great. Very sturdy construction, easy to put together, no issues with rusting, so the coating is holding up well. The only small issue we had with it is that it seems to sag in the middle where the front and the back join just a little bit. We can't quite seem to get it level. It's very possible that is due to how we put it together, but we can't quite seem to fix it. It wouldn't matter much except that we are hauling boats and having the cross bars be level with each other would be helpful. 605025

Do you have a question about this Ladder Rack?

  • Recommended Over the Cab Ladder Rack for a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with Removable Rear Bar
  • Yes, the rear bar on the Erickson Over-The-Cab Truck Bed Ladder Rack part # EM07707 can be removed without disassembling the entire rack. However, it is not easy to do so because there are 3-4 bolts per side as you can see in the attached photo. Also, you cannot drive with the rear bar detached because it plays too much of a part in the overall stability of rack. Instead, I recommend the Buyers Products Over-The-Cab Truck Bed Ladder Rack part # 3371501150. As you can see in the attached...

Like you wouldn't easily be able to take the rear bar off and on if that's your goal. You'd have to take the upright assembly apart as well. For a similar ladder rack that allows the rear bar to be removed which is a confirmed fit for your 2010 Chevy Silverado you'd want the Thule TracRac Ladder Rack part # TH43002XT-000EX for if you have an 8 foot bed, or...

It installs in sections though so you wouldn't be required to support all of that weight at one time with either just yourself, buffy, or bubba. • Can a TracRac Sliding Ladder Rack be Modified to Fit a 2016 Chevy Colorado
  • There isn't really an easy way to modify ladder rack # TH43002XT-783EX to fit the 5 foot bed on your 2016 Chevy Colorado. The issue is that the base rails mount in the stake pocket holes on the truck. To maintain that connection point the rails would have to be cut in the middle and then welded back together at the proper length so that the base rails line up with the stake pocket holes. Or you would have to use the front mount only, cut the back ends of the rails, and find another way...
