Video Transcript for etrailer Rubber 2" Hitch Cover Review

Hey, everybody, Ryan here at Etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the etrailer.com trailer hitch cover. So right off the bat, this is gonna work with the two inch by two inch hitches, like we have here today on our Jeep, just as an example, and there's also a smaller inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter version available. So if you've got the smaller size hitch, there will be a plug that fits that as well, but really a super simple part, and it's designed for a couple of different reasons. You know, one of 'em being to help keep dirt and junk from getting inside of the receiver tube here, help keep it in good shape, whether. You know, it's debatable how well that actually works, but in my opinion, it's definitely not gonna hurt anything as far as that goes.

So might extend the life of your hitch, especially if you use this, you know, when your hitch is new, like ours today, but more importantly, I think that this is mainly for the appearance. I think it makes it look a whole lot better and a lot more finished. So as opposed to just having that open tube there, you know, this pops in, (plastic smacking) and to me I like the looks of it, kind of gives it more of a clean appearance, and with this being made out of rubber, it can potentially kind of soften a blow too. You know, some hitches stick out past the bumper quite a bit, and if you we're to happen to kind of bump your leg or something while you're getting into your trunk or dropping your tailgate, not gonna hurt as bad. Like I said, this is made from rubber and one of the nice things about it is you don't need a pin and clip or tools or anything to use it.

You know, it's a press fit, and it's a tight fit at that. So that's all you gotta do to put it in there and pull it right out, and these seem to hold up pretty well. I can actually speak from personal experience. My father's had one of these for probably two and a half, three years now, and it hasn't dry rotted. You know, it still goes in there well and comes out just like it did when it was brand new, and he don't park in the garage either.

He lives on a country gravel road. So it's out in the sun all day getting beat up, and so it seems to hold up, at least so far. So can't really go wrong there. You know, there's a ton of different styles of hitch covers on the market, and this is probably one of the more simple ones. Probably gonna last longest in terms of it holding up, but in case you're looking for something a little bit different, you got kind of this style, which kind of doubles as a four-way flat trailer wiring holder as well.

So I just have this other cover on hand that would kind of plug in into there trailer wiring and be able to keep it stored, if you will, and the way these work is they go around your hitch share and then push in, which is pretty cool. You know, you kind of, you get that holder in there. My thought, though, with these, you know, it's nice that this can stay on there. You can plug your accessory in. You don't have to keep track of it or anything, but I don't really see that lasting too long to be quite frank with you because that part of the rubber is relatively thin. It's kind of a high wear area. I could eventually see this probably cracking and tearing and then, you know, you're kind of losing the function of that, but can't speak from personal experience. That's just my thought on it, and then if you're looking for some extra safety or a little extra lighting, you know, we have stuff like this too, which will illuminate, you know, when you're hitting your brakes and stuff. So that could go in with these. You know, a lot of 'em you're gonna need a pin and clip to keep it in place, but that push in there. You plug this part into your trailer wiring and you know, like I said, this will illuminate whenever you're applying your brakes. Other than that, at the end of the day, you know, there's really not a whole lot to it. It's gonna be a great way to help keep your hitch protected and look a little bit better whenever you're not using it.

Great product and fast delivery! Fits like a glove to my new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek. To use with a KUAT bike rack.

by:

The items I ordered will allow me to adapt my utility trailer for transporting my sea kayaks. Curt and Hopkins are both quality manufacturers.
On a shipping note, the box arrived at the Post Office broken wide open. Your shipping folks need to wrap small, heavy, items in bubble wrap. Then stabilize it with foam peanuts. Just putting it in a box then stuffing the box with craft paper does not cut it. Items were not damaged so I am good to go.

by:

The installation was easy, no issues. I have used the hitch for carrying bikes. I have also purchased a wiring harness but haven't installed it yet!

by:

Package arrived in a timely fashion and the instructions were very easy.

by:

It fits nicely in the hitch receiver.

by:

Great quality, good installation instructions, good support. It was easy to install and solid (high quality). Installed on a 2023 Honda Passport Trailsport. I plan on using this initially for a bike rack (a Swagman rack that I like a lot ). I may also look to tow a light trailer in the future for camping.
This is my second hitch purchase from you guys and both experiences have been great and exceeded my expectations. Thank you!

by:

I’m glad this 2” is available for the VW Gulf. This hitch is perfect for my uses. I like the low visibility and how solid it is. I tow a sailing kayak and transport 2 Ebikes frequently. The 2” hitch provides a sturdy connection for the Thule carrier. Couldn’t be more satisfied.

by:

This is my second hitch purchase from e-Trailer. The hitch fits our 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid perfectly. I did the installation alone and had to use various means (blocks, tubs, straps) to hold it in place. Other folks recommended a second pair of hands. Probably a good suggestion. The hitch will allow us to add our bike rack and haul our bikes conveniently and safely.

by:

semi hard rubber makes this cover fit nice and snug in the hitch receiver so that it will not fall out.

by:

No brainer on this trailer hitch cover - tight fit and quality.

by:

The quality of the trailer hitch is well constructed. Installed on a 2021 Toyota Hybrid Limited Highlander. Installation videos are great, didn’t take long to install. As other reviews have stated the lower panel requires very little modification to reinstall. Installation brochure shows to much plastic to cut, not necessary. The only disappointing/complaint I have is the foot sensor for the lift gate no longer functions, as I assume the hitch is blocking the sensor. Overall great product.

by:

It is a solid built hitch. Its a pwrfect fit for my 2019 Subaru forester. Just like the oem product if not much better because its a 2” which Subaru only has 1/4”. Easy to install with the step by step video.

by:

Perfect fit for the trailer hitch I recently bought from trailer.com and installed on my wife's 2013 Acura RDX. I had purchased a hitch, ball and mount, and wiring harness. They were VERY easy to install and fit like a glove. Looking forward to using it this summer!! Thank you, etrailer.com!

by:

We’ve been very happy with our hitch and our hitch cover. The hitch cover is used throughout the year except when we load up our bikes. I have no regrets in the purchase we made.

by:

Works great. I use it to pull a small trailer and about 1500 pounds or mower and mulch. No issues. Good grade hardware. Works as it should

by:

Perfect fit. This will keep the gunk and junk out of the receiver. This gives it a clean look.

I’ve had this product for a year and it’s done it’s job extremely well. It’s kept it’s shape and is not dry-rotting.

by:

Great product!

by:

This was for my 2022 Prius AWDe, XLE.
This
EcoHitch is A high quality build with precision that was attested to when my Toyota Dealer’s service rep touted it too - when they completed the install in just about two hours. Great comfort to have the new car warranty intact, especially with the disassembly and reassembly necessary for the hitch. Thank you e-trailer for the install video too!

by:

These work perfectly in my three separate receivers. They look good and they offer a good protection. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one.

by:

Easy installation, great value and didn’t get in the way of handsfree hatch operation

by:

love it. looks much better with cover.

by:

The low profile was the best choice, especially on the Sienna. It was a bit of work since I had to remove the bumper cover and the zillion plastic clips and screws but definitely worth the extra work.

by:

It fit my 2" hitch perfectly. I bought it as a back up for when and if my Starwars cover didn't work out. I love both items from etrailer

by:

Ease of order competitive pricing and quick shipping made this a great item. Installation was as expected and quality and aftermarket fitment was spot on. Way better that other choices. It looks like it was factory installed without the factory price. Great job and thanks for the customer service follow up. Would order from etrailer.com again any day

by:

Very good product. It came in time and was as advertised. Would order from etrailer.com again in the future.

  • Troubleshooting Difference in Space Between Tires on Tandem Axle Boat Trailer
There are a variety of reasons why the space between the tires on your tandem axle trailer might differ between the left and right side. I first recommend verifying that the trailer is on even ground when you are taking the measurements between the wheels. It seems simple, but if the trailer is on unlevel ground, it can cause one side of the suspension to have more load on it, thus leading to the difference in tire spacing you are seeing. If the unequal spacing on the tires is present...

  • Can Different Load Range Tires be Used on Tandem Axle Trailer
Most likely the PSI difference between your axles is that you have a higher Load Range tire on the front axle now than what you have on the rear axle. Ideally you are running the same Load Range on all wheels of your trailer but in your situation you should be fine. Just be sure you run the max PSI for all tires listed on them at all times and you'll be good.

  • Troubleshooting 12v Power on 7-way Trailer Plug of 2003 GMC Sierra Not Working
It sounds like this could be as simple as a missing fuse that activates the brake controller power or just a bad ground wire, but it does depend on whether or not this is a factory installed 7 way. I would start just by making sure that the ground wire is connected to a rust and debris free spot on the vehicle frame. If the 7 way is the factory plug, then there's likely an issue along the power wire running from the battery to the 7 way, so you'll either need to run a new wire or trace...

Payload is any weight added to the vehicle, including cargo and passengers inside; it doesn't matter if it is in front or behind the rear axle. Tongue weight counts as payload. In your case, the cargo carrier and everything on the cargo carrier will count as tongue weight, thus counting as payload as well. I attached...
