Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at our 17x46 Curt Cargo Carrier. It's both 1 1/4" and 2" hitches. It's part number is C18145. This hitch mounted, basket style cargo carrier is going to allow you to tote extra gear. This is going to free up space in your vehicle for pets or passengers and it's also going to allow you to keep muddy and dirty items outside of your vehicle, so it's not dirtying up the interior. The raised side rails that go all the way around the carrier are going to help to hold the gear in place, as well as the steel construction and the corrosion resistant finish. It's going to allow you to connect anywhere on your carrier that you'd like with a strap or a tie down without having to worry about scratching the finish and creating places where corrosion might occur. The carrier has a nice open floor design.

This is going to provide stability for your larger items and also help the grime and gunk from building up in the floor of the carrier. Curt's also going to offer you a nice limited one year warranty on their product. The carrier's designed for use in class one, class two or class three receivers. A class one receiver, we're going to have a 200 pound weight capacity. Then the class two, a 350 pound weight capacity. And then our class three, all the way up to 500 pound weight capacity. The anti rattle bolt is going to be included.

It comes with a washer, lock washer, the anti rattle bolt itself and a clip for security. Today, we're going to be installing the carrier into a 2"x2" hitch, so we're going to use the converter or the adapter that converts it up to that size. This is included with the carrier. And inside, you'll see it's got a little injection molded cylindrical peg. That's going to slide right into the hole that's below our threaded pin hole. So, we'll bring that down, slide it right on there. And now, we'll install it on the vehicle for you.

So, we'll slide the shank of the carrier right into the receiver tube of our hitch. We want to line the pin hole up with the hitch pin hole that's in the receiver. We'll then thread in our anti rattle bolt and tighten it down using our wrench. We'll then secure it with our clip here on the side, and just like that, we're ready to hit the road. As you can see, using the anti rattle, anti sway pin there is really going to help keep our cargo carrier secure and take all the play out of our shank. Now that we've got our cargo carrier installed, I'll show you what it looks like loaded down with gear. We're going to take it through our slalom course, and our bumps course to let you see what it looks like in action as well. As you can see as we drive through our slalom course, we've got very little side to side movement in our carrier.

As we go through our alternating and solid bumps, you can see that anti rattle bolt doing its job and not allowing your carrier to move around too much. That will complete today's look at the 17x46 Curt Cargo Carrier, part number C18145. .

I wanted a small trailer for my 1 1/4" hitch on my Prius V to fit two Rubbermaid Roughneck Trash Barrels for trips to the town Transfer Station. The 17.5" aprox depth of the basket of this trailer fits the bottom of the barrels just right. I judged that a 60" wide would not fit three barrels anyway and that might be too heavy a load, so the 47" x 17.5" inside dimension of this was best. The attached photos show two barrels in the trailer. Some have complained that the assembly instructions are lacking. Here are some tips: The bottom platform pieces should be placed so that the tubing is flush at the central rails, the flat rails with 4 holes that bolt to the center 1 1/4" square tube are a bit wider than the square tubing that make up the bottom platform and the extra lip should point down so you have a nice flush platform in the bottom of the tray where you will be putting stuff. If you have those pieces upside down, you would have a little ridge sticking up on each side of the central square tube and that would not work well as well as the bottom of the tray, and the "T" connectors would not fit correctly. Group the fasteners and you will have three bunches (manufacturer had the nut/bolt/washers assembled together in my shipment) A) 18 small diameter bolts/nuts/washers - those are for the flat A shaped braces which hold the bottom platform halves to the top railing halves. B) 8 medium diameter bolts/nuts/washers - those are for the fore and aft "T" connectors C) 4 large diameter bolts/nuts/washers - those hold the left half and right half of the platform together. Using the smallest bolts, fasten the "A" braces to the bottom platform halves, then bolt to the top platform halves, leave them loose with about 1/8" of play. Now you have two half assemblies of the bottom tray. Place the middle 1 1/4" square "hitch" piece between the two half assemblies and line them up but do not put the 4 big bolts in yet. Put the two "T" connectors at the back and hitch side. The "T" connector with the reflector goes at the back, and the reflector points toward traffic. The other one goes on the hitch side. Loosely bolt the "T" connectors using the 8 medium bolts and then fasten the two sides together snugly with the 4 big bolts. Then tighten all other fasteners. A ratchet and metric sockets and an adjustable wrench to hold the nut while tightening the bolt head is much handier than two wrenches. 429557

I was looking for a basket style hitch carrier that was not too big. Most carriers I saw were 60 inches long. This one is 48 inches and was just what I was looking for. I like everything about this carrier: the looks, style, size and weight. I will be using it to carry beach equipment during our summer vacations to the Outer Banks, NC. The assembly instruction page leaves alot to be desired as there is one picture trying to explain how to completely assemble the carrier. You can figure it out, but will take some time and multiple looks at the one diagram. It took me about 1.5 hours to assemble. Some other facts for those of you looking for a hitch carrier to use on a Jeep Wrangler. I have a 2013 Wrangler Unlimited with the factory installed trailer towing package & 2 inch receiver. You have to use a hitch extender with this particular carrier in order to clear the rear mounted spare tire. The JK Wranglers need approx. 12 inches out from the center of the hitch pin hole. Also, you will not be able to fully open the tailgate as the tire will hit the carrier. If you went with a flat carrier (not the basket style of this Curt one), you most likely would be able to open the tailgate and clear a flat carrier. Troop, the customer service rep who assisted me with my order was fantastic. 85560

I have a carrier similar to this one.. What I want to know is if anyone knows where I can get a hard sided container to fit in the carrier that can be locked to the carrier??

You can check out truck bed tool box manufacturers. There are some cargo carriers out there that have matching boxes, but this is not one of them. However, with the inside dimensions on the carrier, it can be pretty easy to find an aluminum or molded ABS plastic box that will fit. Part DZ6535P from DeeZee would fint inside this Curt carrier.

Good Product; I intend to use it to carry an electric generator for my Ford van that I had converted into a very small RV. As a word of caution for the next buyers and suggestions for the manufacturer, the assembly instructions leave a lot to be desired. You better have 13, 14, &17 mm wrenches and also sockets (to speed things up). All the nuts and bolts except for the hitch pin are metric. The hitch pin is English. I don't assemble assemblies everyday so it took a little fumbling before I figured out the nuts and bolts were metric. How much ink would it take to tell me the assembly tools required? Also, identifying bolts with numbers such as "M10*60(10) hexagonal bolt" and "M10" locking nut doesn't help. But my biggest complaint is that there is a top and bottom to the lower two frames that is not at all obvious. The only instruction that attempts to tell you this is a picture and note in the upper right corner of the instructions that says "Tube must be flush with top of plate for correct assembly." When I was done I intended to have the "tube flush with the top plate". But that isn't what is really required. The "lip" MUST be down the "Connection profiles" to fit. What a crazy name for what I would have called a "Connection Tee". What is should say is that the lower two frames must have the lip on the bar that bolts to the Receiver Bar pointed down. Or better yet, how about a little $.05 sticker that says "UP" stuck on the up side of each of the two lower frames. 85638

This carrier was perfect for our 05 Equinox. We had tried a different carrier that fits a 2" hitch and had to buy the adapter to fit our 1.25" hitch. This caused the carrier to come out way too far from the back of the vehicle and did not look safe. I found this one online and had it shipped to us within a couple of days. We just used it on our vacation and it worked perfectly. It also ended up being cheaper than the one we had bought before, not including the adapter. Saved us at least $60.00 even after paying the expedited shipping. Great product, and great communication from the seller in regards to shipping the item. 204071

Carrier still works great. Just used it last week on our vacation and works perfectly. I drove a second car behind my husband on this trip and was able to keep an eye on it this time. The items in the carrier did not bounce or shift at all.

This is an updated review now that I have had the chance to use my carrier a few times. I'm keeping the rating the same because the issues I've had have been because of the way I use it and not because of the quality of the product. Be aware that if you are using this carrier on a lower profile vehicle you will be more or less confined to flat pavement, including any kind of raised driveway or parking lot entrance. I even had it scrape over a speed bump under load. May not be a big deal in some parts of the country but I live in the mountains and there is a lot of up and down terrain to scrape on. If that could be an issue for you as it was for me then do yourself a favor and spend a little more for a carrier with a raised shank. I nearly broke the thing off the first time I used it just pulling into raised parking lot from the road. I was fortunate that I was just testing it out completely unloaded so the back of the vehicle wasn’t squatted down from the weight that would normally be on it. I ended up fixing it myself by chopping main support up and welding in some extra square tube pieces to raise the basket 3 inches. Fixed the problem, but I wish I had realized just how far down it hung. Again, not the problem of the carrier, but my specific setup and location. Just something to think about before buying. 42378

Bought to use on a 2016 Subaru Forester. I like the overall size. It's not as wide or wider than the Forester and I can still easily access the rear hatch. With the anti-rattle bolt, it is really stable. Now the reason for the 4 stars and not 5. I added some additional reflective tape on the side corners because at night, in a dark parking lot, it is not easy to see. But what is really annoying is the carrier is at the same height as the exhaust tip. I thought that if there was an issue with this there would be something in the reviews (which there was no mention of this being a possible issue). On a trip from southwest Ohio to Minneapolis I learned the hard way that this is a serious issue. The exhaust gasses melted a hole in the cargo bag I was using to protect gifts from the elements. Thankfully the condensation that built up in the bag kept the cardboard box the bag melted to from possibly igniting. Things were damp, but not ruined. For many vehicles, you will need an adapter to raise the carrier up and away from the exhaust. You could use a turn-down exhaust tip, but this may just make the hot gasses hit your cargo from a different angle. The second time I used with a Curt adapter with rubbermaid tubs and had no issues. 464179

Received the cargo rack exactly on the day promised. Followed the instructions and had the rack put together and installed on my Dodge Journey hitch in less than an hour. While an adjustable wrench could be used (per instructions), a ratchet set makes the job very easy (there are a lot of nuts and bolts to install and tighten). A very nice touch was the manufacturer screwed all of the bolts, washers and nuts together in sets which made it very easy to check for missing parts and to complete the installation quickly. Impressed with the quality of the rack, the ease of putting it on and taking it off of the hitch, and the ability to tighten it down on the hitch nice and snug. One concern I have for my particular setup is the twin exhausts on the Dodge Journey blow straight into the back side of the rack with about 10 inches of clearance. Planning on attaching metal flashing across the back of the rack to deflect the exhaust when carrying suitcases or other items where heat might be a concern. I am very happy with the purchase and feel that this rack is a great value based on the purchase price. 207752

This turned out to be a great product, very solid once put together. And that is the key issue, putting it together. The directions are almost useless. I would like to greatly thanks the folks who wrote reviews and gave info on putting this product together. The three top tidbits of information were: 1) The "lip" MUST be down for the "Connection profiles" to fit (try putting the two connection parts (one has the reflector on it) onto the bottom frame and you will see how it fits together; 2) You better have 13, 14, &17 mm wrenches and also sockets (to speed things up). All the nuts and bolts except for the hitch pin are metric; and 3) Do not tighten down any of the bolts until you fully assemble the carrier. If you do, you will not be able to get the pieces to fit. Thanks so much to the reviewers who took the time to give such great advice. It is time consuming to put this carrier together, but not difficult if you follow above. It looks good once assembled and should work just fine, haven't put it on my trailer yet. 194610

Part 2 of 3 of my order also arrived nearly two days after I ordered it. It came in the same box as the Hitch. It took me about 45 minutes to put together only after I noticed a small flaw in the design. Since the instructions did not detail which side of the bottom frame was up or down, it wasn't until I try to put both sections together that it was wrong, since the "T" connectors would not line up correctly. I had to uninstall the braces first. It may be helpful to begin with the bottom first and connect these first, then insert the top sections, then add the spacers. Just leave everything a little loose to get it lined up, then go around and tighten every thing down. All in all a great little product! I used it yesterday and it worked great. Very solid unit. the only draw back on the Hitch is the clearance of my curb as it could have been higher or they should create an L bracket to lift this unit up higher but it is something I can live with for now. 8852

Easy to assemble, but smaller than I thought it was going to be. That said, I think for it's intended use it'll be a fine hauler provided a little smarts is used when loading it..i.e., don't over do it. Don't try to load it down with luggage for a family of six, it is what it is. 83688

After a year Ive had no problems whatsoever with this carrier. Mind you, I dont overload it, but even with the road use it hasnt shaken loose. Its still solid.

The 20X48 Curt cargo carrier is very well made. I bought it because the etrailer.com video convinced me that with the use of the locking pin, loaded on my 1-1/4" hitch, the carrier would not do a lot of moving and shaking when traveling. The cargo carrier lives up to this claim however I do have one gripe: This carrier is not actually 20X48"; the interior dimension is really 17-1/2X46". I had previously bought an aluminum 20X60" carrier from my local Northern Tool but I returned it because I had to use a 2" hitch adapter and it made the cargo carrrier very unstable, however, the actual inside dimensions where as advertised: 20X60! 22876

Comments

Thanks for the post - I also just assembled the aluminum 20X60 carrier from Northern Tool and found it very unstable with the 2-1.25 adapter. It also put it more than 12 from the bumper. Will be returning the carrier from Northern Tool and ordering this one.

We purchased this product to give us added room in our xB for a trip to Disney World. It easily installed and worked wonderfully with the tow hitch. etrailer was a big help and watched over our order to make sure it would get to us on time. I will look to them for all our future trailer needs. 59924

Carrier is great. Easy to put together, love the fact it can fit both 1 1\4 and 2 in hitches, in case I ever upgrade. I would definitely recommend this carrier to anyone looking for some extra cargo space 210906

I ordered my cargo carrier and it came in a good box,no damage and everything was in real good condition, the parts were all there and I did a preassembly to make sure all parts fit and they did. This purchase is going to help me carry all me work tools and when I use my RV I can put alot of stuff in the carrier and if I have to tow my car I can use the carrier on my car to hold lots of stuff.great purchase ,would recommend to anyone that needs extra storage and when not in use, takes up very little space in the garage or out doors because the powder coat is real good and well not rust. One more thing, the receiver works with 2 inche and 1.25 inche receivers and makes no noise at all with the supplied bolt-washer and lockwashers all supplied in the kit.I installed my cargo carrier on a 2002 toyota echo . I did not visualize the final product so had to unscrew the hex head bolts in order to position the platform into the connection tubing. My bad. I was missing the 4 spring washers, M10 (item #6). I went to the local hardware store where the clerk said he did not know what a spring washer was. He sold me what he called a lock washer, which was what I thought was intended. A Wikipedia search found "Split washer or spring lock washer" which appears to be a "lock washer." #19 lists a "star washer", but it was not what was supplied per the Wiki picture; another larger "Split washer or spring lock washer" was in the parts bag. Assembly proceeded without further problems. I look forward to putting it to good use hauling things that do not fit in my car for which I have previously paid delivery fees. 460499

Recieved faster than anticipated. Bolted together in less time than I could have cut my own stock to build one from scratch. Purchase price was reasonable. Just wish I would have ordered the air spring helpers for the rear suspension. Installed on a 2011 Prius. Wanted it to carry gas cans to keep the smell/vapors out of the car. Also to provide extra cargo space for trips to the in-laws. 4 people, Christmas presents, and clothes for a week at Grandma's is crowded in a Prius. But at 50 mpg why take the SUV for a 2 hour trip? Also wanted to be able to carry a cooler. The side rails were a definite must have for the cooler and gas cans. Bonous for me is we can also use it on the SUV with the 2" adapter supplied with it. 60586

Excellent product. The hitch, 5" adapter, cargo carrier. Easy to put together, all the parts were there. Very fast delivery. Kudos to Lisa and E. Trailer for above and beyond products and service. I have a small car and it was packed when I went camping alone. Now daughter and I are doing a 3 week trip in June. More stuff. 338207

Exactly the same as the video demonstration showed (the videos at etrailer are awesome!) so I knew what I was getting and I got it. Lots of extra room for camping gear now. Assembly took a bit longer than expected - it's better to look at the picture on the box, in addition to the instructions, as the instructions show some bolts in the opposite direction. Make sure you don't over tighten (only go to 80%) as the instructions say, as it's a tight fit at the end to get the upper rack lined up if everything else is snug at the start. Not a huge fan that the cotter pin bolt needs to be screwed in, rather than just slid through - as it means a slower connect/disconnect and the need for a socket wrench. 208831

by:

Well-built product, but you will need some wrenches/sockets to assemble. Assembly took ~30 minutes with all the different nuts and bolts but was easy. Consider, when purchasing this (or any other) cargo carrier, *where your exhaust pipes are located*. In my case the dual exhaust on my car is about 10 inches away from the bottom edges of this carrier, which means I need to protect items near the bottom exhaust. This seems like a problem for any rear cargo carrier. Also note that the carrier is rated to 500 lbs, but if you have a Class II hitch then you can only put ~175lbs (25lb carrier + 175 lb load = 200lb rating) on the hitch or you'll exceed the weight rating of the *hitch* (not carrier). 81954

I purchased this cargo carrier to go behind my Volkswagen beetle. I have a small motorcycle trailer that I pull behind my car, but it doesn't fit into a single parking space and it's hard to back it up because the tongue is so short. i I wanted something that would allow me to transport my products to the weekly farmers market without pulling the trailer. The carrier did what I needed it to do and I am happy with my purchase. It's one of the smaller sized carriers, which works well behind my smaller car. The carrier was easy to assemble and the instructions were clear, but the diagram was very small. It's fairly lightweight, so it wasn't difficult for me to put on and take off by myself. I 390831

I bought this carrier for my 2008 Honda Civic LX. The instructions were a little difficult to read. They could have made the picture twice the size. The assembly took me about 20 min. I was concerned that we might have some clearance issues w/ the carrier hitting the pavement going of dips/bumps because of the ride hight of the car, but we haven't had any issues yet. I have loaded the carrier pretty heavily w/ stuff w/out the carriage scraping the pavement. Also, make sure you have all of your hardware when you open the package, I was short 3 or 4 crush washers when I was assembling the carrier. The carrier also comes w/ the pin and clip, you don't need to buy one like was told I had to do. 169017

Make sure you read the specs carefully. I had no reason to suspect that my trailer hitch was unusually far behind my bumper but at barely more than 6" I could not use this carrier without an extension. I suspect the manufacturer only allows six inches so they can claim a higher load rating than their competitors. The extension decreases the carrier's load rating. A bit of advice for people who can use this trailer. Do not tighten down any of the bolts until you fully assemble the carrier. If you do, you will not be able to get the pieces to fit. This is almost common sense for mechanically adept people but I forgot to do this and had to loosen all the bolts to finish the assembly. 12999

This cargo carrier is one of the best investments we've made. Our little Prius C has limited capacity and we frequently carry large items for distant family members. We have gone over 6000 miles hauling light but bulky loads on the cargo carrier. I have added corner markers at the back which are visible in my mirror to remind me not to back into objects with it. They also enhance its visibility to following vehicles. I do have a concern with the resonant bouncing it does on less than perfect roads (all roads) which in time could promote fatigue failure in my lightweight hitch. My hitch is rated at 200 lb max, and I never load more 50 lbs. Heavier stuff goes in the car. 440355

The product arrived quickly and in good condition. I haven't used it yet, just mounted and unmounted it. It seems to be just what I needed and expected. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the assembly instructions were a bit unclear about having the 2 bottom flats turned the same way. At first glance you may not notice there is a difference between right side and wrong side up. If you make that mistake you will find yourself unbolting everything and starting over about 3/4 of the way into the build. And, the plastic adapter for 1-1/4" to 2" hitches seems a bit cheesy and causes a very slight offset in the mount to one side. 292174

Looks like a good cargo carrier. Put it together last night. A few small issues: (1) picture on outside of box shows bolts...nut on bottom vs top) different from instructions (2) cannot assemble per instructions...not hard to figure out, but following instruction steps will not work (3) web site says max distance from center of hitch pin hole to closest edge of carrier is 6 inches; it is actually 5 1/2 and I needed to flex carrier frame a bit to make it work (4) with paint on the hitch, would not go into the 1 1/4 van hitch; had to take paint off. Details...but room for some small improvements to make customer life easier. 106658

It took me about and hour to put this cargo carrier together. It was pretty easy to follow the instructions to assemble it. I liked the looks of this carrier and the deeper basket it had and how it could be easier to hook straps on. While making a 300 mile trip using this carrier on my 2007 Prius the back of the bottom of the carrier scraped bottom 4 or 5 times when going through dips and up sloped driveways. In hindsight I think that the C18110 might be a better choice for the Prius as its attachment bar has a a slight rise in it that might eliminate the number of times the carrier might scrape when going through dips. 308775

This little baby fits great on my Mazda 5. I put it together on the family room floor while watching Sunday football in about an hour...or 20 minutes of game time. I already had an Action Packer storage bin that just happened to fit perfectly in the rack. I have had several other racks and I like that this one fits close, like1", fron my bumper. The less they stick out and the higher they are, the less likely they will drag ground when leaving parking lots and such. 109122

The product assembled with no issues and the bolts lined up with the pre-drilled holes fairly well. I tried it on our RV travel trailer (1 & 1/4 inch hitch) and it is very tight. However, on a 2 inch Jeep Grand Cherokee hitch it wobbles appreciably. The wiggle at the hitch is about 1/8 inch and at the end of the carrier a full inch. I suspect it will do better with a sleeve insert in the 2 inch hitch that adapts a 1 & 1/4 carrier but I have not tried that yet. The adapter that comes with the stinger to adapt to 2 inches is plastic does cover the whole length and that is probably why it wobbles. 411557

For the price excellent. Note that the rating does change to 300 lbs. if you use with the 1 -1/4 hitch. Not a big deal. I think 300 lbs. is really all you would want to support with this anyways. Decent hardware come with it (metric) and good hole alignment. Easy assembly, but it takes 20 mins or so. Note in my picture. I added some roll bar padding to prevent abrasions to items being carried. 280794

Attached this thing to the 1-1/4 Inch hitch on a Mazda 5. Fit perfectly and was easier than I thought to put on and remove. Solidly built. Had a cargo bag stuffed with about 6 duffle bags strapped to this carrier, about 100lbs. Drove 9 hrs each way, no issues at all. No whistling, and didn't seem to affect the gas mileage either. I recommend this for anyone needing a little more space in their car. 285719

While this rack takes some time to put together, once it's done it works flawlessly. The fit was tight into my hitch, but it never made any noise or showed any sign of movement. I would recommend having a drill with the appropriate sized nut socket to help speed up the process. The large screw that goes through the unit and through the hitch was sized more for those with 2" hitches. I would recommend they also include a small bolt for those of us with 1 1/4" hitches because it takes a very long time to thread that bolt through! 402539

The delay in writing this review is because I wanted to try the carrier under 'real use' conditions with load before reporting. I can now review this product and will start by saying it's great. The carrier is easily attached and removed. I was especially interested in how tight the carrier would stay after being bolted into place and driven for several hours with weight on - it was perfect; there was no loosening whatsoever. This carrier has performed perfectly, I could not be happier with the product. 108529

Good very solid construction. However, it is imeritive that all parts be screwed together loosely before tightening. Also the threaded insert in the shank was off center and protruding one side so I had to hammer it in otherwise the shanke doesn't fit the reciever. Of course now the thread insert can't be used, hammering damaged threads. luckily they include a second open hole and that works fine with a conventional lin anyway. Threaded pin a bad idea anyway and the included star washer doesn't fit. 36510

The bottom pieces cannot be assembled on both sides. Only one side will work with the final brace, which has a bent notch that curls over the bottom piece when properly aligned at the start. I learned the hard way and had to disassemble most of my work and start over. I reviewed the instructions, and there is a reference to this proper orientation, but it was a bit vague, at least for me. Be careful, or you will spend another half hour or more completing your assembly. 176211

I started searching for a cargo carrier Sunday after returning from a Bills game where I could not tailgate. I had 3 guests in my 2005 Jeep Wrangler and no room for any stuff. The jeep has a 3 inch lift and a 1 and a quarter receiver. The demo videos convinced me that it would fit and of course it had to be black! Survived famous Alaska highway, and a 6000 mile road trip, and still like new. Will use this for any long trips I make, and even great for extra storage when going camping/fishing. At first I was afraid it might not last the 6000 mile road trip, but it did great, even for one of the roughest highways in north America. An A+ product for sure, also the rails on the side hold everything in place nicely, and bungee cords attach and hold great, many places to strap. 409515

I have used this cargo carrier on two camping trips and one trip to the local home center since purchasing it in May and I really like how handy it is. My only criticism is that when my Mazda MPV van and carrier are loaded I only have about a 10in ground clearance. Normally not a problem but it has hit the ground on a few occasions. Some type of transition hitch to raise the carrier would be a nice improvement. I would buy this carrier again. 46555

I like the cargo holder design. Seems very sturdy after rounding up the hardware missing with the M* bolts. The hardware was lacking, as the spring lock washers were missing for all M* bolt sizes. Had to get those from a local hardware store. That was only a modest but still irritating inconvenience. Glad I did an inventory of the hardware, or else I would've assembled everything without the MISSING hardware (i.e., spring lock washers). 256494

Arrived on time. Went together in about 20 minutes. I did have to chase out the threaded hitch pin hole because it had some paint build up that didn't allow the bolt to run through without a wrench. After that everything was pretty well set. I bought a Curt class 2 hitch for my car at the same time and they worked well together. Seems like it should easily able to hold what its rated for. I will definitely buy Curt products from etrailer again! 40633

  • Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier Recommendation for 2016 Jeep Wrangler that Allow Rear Door to Open
  • We test fit a several hitch cargo carriers on a similar 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and we found that the Curt # C18145 and the # PS1040100 allowed the rear cargo door to open over the carrier. I wish either of them folded up, but none of the folding carriers we offer would have the clearance to fold up around the spare. But the two options I listed will satisfy you primary interest. Check out the review videos I attached to see that they will fit and clear.

  • Weight Capacity of Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier # C-18145 When Used with Class I Receiver
  • The Curt Cargo Carrier, part # C-18145 has an overall capacity of 500 lb,s but this capacity will be limited by the tongue weight capacity of your Class I hitch. A class I hitch typically has a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs, which means that the carrier itself and whatever is placed on it cannot weigh more than 200 lbs. Your hitch should have a sticker on it that will list its tongue weight capacity. Please note that exceeding the tongue weight capacity of the hitch can result in...

  • Recommended Roof Rack, Cargo Box, Bike Carrier, and Kayak Carrier for 2013 Hyundai Elantra
  • I recommend the Thule Aero Crossbars # THARB53, Traverse foot pack # TH480R, and Fit Kit # THKIT1695. This is an easy installation, but if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself, I recommend having a trusted mechanic install it. I've attached a video of this installation on a vehicle without the panoramic roof to give you an idea of this process. This roof rack will be compatible with kayaks, bike carriers, and cargo boxes. I recommend the Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carrier - Folding...

  • Trailer Hitch for 2014 Mini Countryman with Dual Exhaust
  • For the 2014 Mini Countryman with dual exhaust you can install either the Draw-Tite Class I hitch # 24934 or the Curt # C11333. Both hitches have identical weight ratings and will install in the exact same way using included hardware. These fit so long as you do NOT have the John Cooper Works version. An install video is included for you. The Curt warranty requires you to use support strap # 18050 with any non-trailer load, such as a 2-bike rack or cargo carrier like # C18145 or # B01311.

  • Hitch-Mount Luggage Carriers Suitable for Use on 2014 Toyota Prius
  • We have a solution for you that will not require any drilling or welding. We offer a 1-1/4-inch light-duty Class I hitch for your Prius (if it is a Prius Two, Three or Four). Draw-Tite hitch # 24847 bolts on and requires no welding, no drilling and no permanent modifications to your car. Installation is simplified by temporarily lowering the exhaust out of the way, but it is returned to its normal position after hitch installation. Many customers handle their hitch installs on their...

  • Can the Pro Series Packer 2 Cargo Carrier be Used in a Class I Receiver
  • The design of the Pro Series Packer 2 Cargo Carrier, # PS1040300, shank prohibits installation in Class I trailer hitches that have a tab in them. Class I hitches are designed with a tab, see accompanying photo, that keeps Class II accessories from being installed to avoid potential overloading of the trailer hitch and damage to the cargo carrier, contents, hitch or vehicle frame. We do have 3 cargo carriers that will work in Class I hitches. The most economical choice is the Curt Hitch...

  • Available Trailer Hitch Receivers for 2007 Toyota Prius
  • The Draw-Tite # 24808 and Curt # C11468 are the available hitch receivers for your 2006 Toyota Prius. Both are Class I and have a towing capacity of 2000 lbs. Our most popular hitch for your Prius is the Draw-Tite # 24808. I have included a short installation video for you. In order for a Class II or Class III hitch to be available, the vehicle would have to have a towing capacity that would warrant the higher rated hitch. In this case the frame on the Prius could not handle the...

  • Trailer Hitch and Cargo Carrier to Transport a Walker on a 2013 Fiat 500 Pop Convertible
  • Because of the convertible top on your 2013 Fiat 500 Pop you would not be able to use a trunk mount or roof mount carrier to transport your mother's walker. You would need to use a trailer hitch and carrier. Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24873 fits the convertible models so if you used it along with a Class I compatible carrier, such as # C18145 you could carry the walker. I have linked videos showing the hitch installation and the carrier on a Fiat 500 for you.

  • Cargo Bag that Fits Curt 17x46 Inch Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier
  • The recommended cargo bag for Curt cargo carrier # C18145 is Rola bag # 59102. The bag is 48" x 19" x 18" so it would have to be tucked in. It secures to the carrier with straps so even if the carrier was larger than the bag it would not come off the carrier as long as it was properly secured.

  • Video for DIY Trailer Hitch Installation on a 2011 Chevy Equinox and Cargo Carrier Recommendation
  • There is a similar video of the Curt 2 inch receiver hitch, item # 13591, being installed on a 2009 Chevrolet Equinox that is the same installation as your 2011 model, see video link. You will need a 19mm socket, a ratchet wrench, an 8 inch extension, and a torque wrench to complete the installation of either the 1-1/4 inch Curt Class II hitch, # C12291, or the 2 Inch Class III Curt hitch, # 13591. I would recommend going with the Class III hitch for several reasons. First, it gives...
