Video Transcript for Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Carpod 23 x 47 walled cargo carrier. It's been designed for use in 2 inch hitches. It's part number is M2200. This cargo carrier is designed with nice, heavy weight steel construction. It's got a black powder coat finish. This thick tall sides are going to help hold our gear in place, and with the main thick shank it's going to give us some extra strength and support.

We can tote up to 450 pounds with our carrier. As you can see we've got the nice tall walls that come up all the way around our carrier. They've got the mesh front on them. This is going to help hold all of our cargo in place as we go down the road. These are designed to fold down easily for storage. You simply go around and start pulling our pins that are located one at each of the 4 corners.

We'll fold down our side doors first. Then our front and then our rear. As you can see this is going to make it very handy for storing in the garage. This also is going to allow us access into our rear cargo area. Now a feature as soon as the door closes which I'll show you that I really like is the concern I had since this is actually my vehicle is that when we open the front door I was worried that it was going to extend too far and hit the back of the suburban, but there's actually a little tab here that as you can see prevents that from happening, so it's really a nice feature that they've got built right in. Cargo carriers like this really allow you to get any of the things inside of your car out that might be able to free up some room for some extra passengers or pets.

As you can see it's got the expanded steel floor in it. When we get our muddy, dirty items that we don't want getting all over the interior of our car, we can just place them right here, allow those to drip dry, allow the dirt and stuff to fall off of them, and all we have to do is hose it down. As you can see, nothing's really going to rest on top of this and cause excessive corrosion. The powder coat finish, of course, is really going to help with that corrosion resistance as well. As you can see, putting it back up is as easy as just unfolding in, and we just slide our 4 pins back in.

Again we got 1 of those at each corner. That really firms it up for us. Now that we've gone over some of the key features of the cargo carrier, we'll show you how to install it into your vehicle. Basically we just slide the shank of the carrier right into the receiver tube of our hitch. We need it to go in far enough to where we line up our hitch pin hole and the hole that's in the shank of the carrier. We'll then take a standard 5/8 pin and slide it through. The pin and clip are sold separately. We sell the combo on our website. The part number on it is PC3. We just slide our pin through and then we secure it here on the other side using our clip. Just like that the carrier's installed onto the vehicle. Now we're going to load it up with some gear. Let's just see how that works. Now we'll just get our gear loaded up here. See those walled sides are really nice about containment, and it's really snug and really secure. With our gear in place there we can simply pull her back up, slide our pins in. As you can see, they're also going to supply you with a strap. The strap's made to fit around the outside rails and hold your gear in place. I don't think it's quite necessary with the load that we've got today. I don't think we have to be worried about it flying out, but if you do need it, they do send you a nice strap to come along with it. Now we're going to be ready to take you out on our test course and let you see what it looks like in action. We'll start by going through the slalom, so you can see the side to side action of the rack as if you're cornering or doing evasive maneuvering. As we go around the corner into our alternating speed bumps, you'll see that torquing maybe if you're hitting a speed bump or a pot hole or a curb, something along those lines. Then we get into the solid speed bumps. You'll be able to see that up and down action like if you we're going into a parking lot or in a driveway, something along those lines. Now you'll be able to customize your Carpod however you like it. We have a lockable lid available for it. That part number is M2201. We also have a weather resistant cargo bag available that has 13-3/4 cubic foot capacity. Its part number is M2202. If you've already decided you'll be going with the lid or the bag or any combination, we do have the Carpod and lid available as part number M2200-2201. We also have the Carpod, the lid, and the bag available at a combo, part number M2200-01-02. That will complete today's look at the 23 x 47 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier designed for 2 inch hitches offering the 450 pound weight capacity, Part number M2200. .

It's just ok. Product came somewhat scraped and appeared rusted ; no pin to secure hitch included. Had to purchase separately (which I think it should be included) . 232581

Still not really impressed. Its not as sturdy as youd think, no matter how tight its put together. It still wobbles from side to side.

Thanks for the feedback Cortez. We have several options for either an anti-rattle device or an locking, anti-rattle hitch pin. I have provided a link the for the options that we currently have.

LOVE this rack. It arrived within a week of ordering, came without any damage, as the packaging was quite good. Very little assemble, and easy to do with included parts. Really like the fact that the front and/or each side can come down for easy loading. And the size is perfect for putting on a motorhome and still having access to the ladder. In addition to this rack being great, the customer service from the people at etrailer.com was exceptional, something not always found now a days. 272469

Still very happy with the rack, it holds panels that are use to set up an enclosed area when we go to dog shows, works as well as the day it arrived!

Great website. Easy to sort info/products. Bought frame/bag. Reasonable price. VERY fast shipping! Frame seems sturdy enough to last. Bag is heavy nylon that seems will last at least a few years with light/medium loads. Put together/Installed in about 20 minutes. So far so good. 110150

I have a 2014 DODGE DURANGO RT. DOES THIS TILT OR SWING AWAY IF IT IS FULLY LOADED SO YOU CAN ACCESS THE TRUNK AND THE DOOR CAN OPEN AND CLOSE????

The Carpod does not have a tilt or swing function. To access your cargo area, you will either need to remove the whole carrier or at least the cage from the base.

Product seems sturdy. Very fast and cheap delivery from etrailer! They were also in touch with emails along the way. Since I purchased this for a Land Rover Dicovery II, it does not have enough clearance to stretch past the spare tire and bumper. So I have to purchase a trailer hitch extension to go with it. Also note that it does not come with a pin to secure it to the trailer hitch; you have to purchase that separately. 88869

My Carpod Cargo Carrier arrived just in time for my vacation. It was easy to set up and attach to my trailer hitch. I love this for the extra space it provides for hauling beach chairs, umbrellas and my cooler. I would definitely use Etrailer for any future accessories for my vehicle. 95928

got it in less than a week. Put it together. Seems pretty sturdy? To bad you have to buy the pin for it? That should be included in price. Cant wait to put it on our motor home for a 2 month road trip in Febuary 2019. Will let you know then how it went. Would recommend to everyone. 556347

The Carpod hitch cargo carrier is still the best thing I could have bought for those things I need to carry. I really like it and very happy with the way it works.

Do you have a question about this Hitch Cargo Carrier?

  • Difference Between Carpod M2200 And M2205 Hitch Mounted Cargo Carriers
  • We do carry the 23x47 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier, part # M2205, and it has some great features. This cargo carrier has walls that fold flat and the entire carrier will fold up when not being used. The outside dimensions are 48-3/4 inches long x 24 inches wide x 22 inches tall, and it fits in a 2 inch receiver opening. This carrier weighs 54 lbs and it also features a shank with a 5 inch rise to provide a bit more ground clearance. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the...

  • Cargo Carrier with Spare Tire Clearance for 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
  • As a first step, you will need to determine what kind of clearance you will need. Measure from the hitch pin hole rearward until you clear the furthest rearward portion of the spare tire. The cargo carrier you choose will need to have a shank that is longer than that dimension. The FAQ article I've linked for you shows how to take that measurement. If your Wrangler has the stock tire size, this distance will be around 6 inches, but if you have larger tires, this distance could be greater....

  • Hitch Cargo Carrier Availability for Dog Cages
  • For hauling anything at the rear of a vehicle on a trailer hitch is going to require a cargo carrier. We don't offer ones specifically for (empty) dog cages but a very popular carrier that measures 24 by 60 inches is the Curt part # C18153. Or for an enclosed carrier the Carpod part # M2200 is another option. This mesh carrier measures 23 inches wide by 47 inches long with a height of 22 inches.

  • The Softride Locking, Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin, # SR25219, is an excellent choice to secure a Carpod basket to your 2007 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition. This hitch pin will not only keep your basket secure, but it will keep the shank of the cargo basket tight against the receiver tube with the anti-rattle device. We carry two Carpod baskets and they are the Carpod Walled, Folding Cargo Carrier, # M2205, and the Walled, Fixed Cargo Carrier, # M2200. I would recommend using the Folding Cargo...

  • What Size Trash Barrels Will Fit in the Carpod Trailer Hitch Mount Walled Cargo Carrier
  • Given the platform dimensions of the Carpod, # M2200, 47 inches across and 23 inches front to back, the carrier could hold 2 barrels with up to a 23 inch outside diameter each but to err on the side of caution I would say up to 22 inches each. I have included a link to a video review for you.

  • Can Rear Hatch on a 2010 Honda Pilot be Opened with a Carpod Trailer Hitch Mount Carrier Installed
  • On the 24x48-3/4 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier, # M2200, the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the carrier is 4 inches. On the 2010 Honda Pilot, it will clear the rear bumper but you will not be able to raise the rear hatch with the carrier in place. What I recommend is an enclosed carrier that swings out to the side so that you have complete access to the rear of the vehicle and can open the rear hatch. • The Rola Expandable 11.5-Cubic-Foot Cargo Bag # 59102 is similar to the etrailer soft cargo bag # 988501 except the etrailer bag offers much higher capacity with 20-cubic-feet of internal volume. Either of these cargo bags could be fitted with an internal structure made of PVC tubing but generally soft bags like these rely on their contents to help control their shape. • In order to determine if the Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier, # M2200, or any trailer hitch mounted accessory will fit your 2011 Honda Pilot Touring Edition, you will need to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the distance required to clear the rear bumper. If that distance is less than 4 inches, the carrier will fit. The carry is designed for 2 inch trailer hitch receivers so it is compatible with the factory hitch on your vehicle. • To determine if the Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier will fit on your 2012 Highlander, you will need to take a measurement off of your hitch. Measure the distance rearward from the hitch pin hole until the furthest rearward portion of the bumper is cleared. If this measurement is less than the 4 inch hitch pin hole to basket measurement of the Carpod Carrier, it will fit.
