Question:

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. I do have another question. Can you also recommend a basket carrier for the Hyundai Elantra GT for the trailer hitch?? I am intrigued by all the possibilities and will be ordering soon but I'm thinking about also how I could use a little carrier like that if my car could accommodate it.

I recommend the Thule Aero Crossbars # TH711420, Traverse foot pack # TH480R, and Fit Kit # THKIT1695. This is an easy installation, but if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself, I recommend having a trusted mechanic install it. I've attached a video of this installation on a vehicle without the panoramic roof to give you an idea of this process.

This roof rack will be compatible with kayaks, bike carriers, and cargo boxes.

I recommend the Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carrier - Folding - Universal Mount # S512 for a cargo carrier, the Yakima FrontLoader Wheel Mount Bike Carrier - Roof Mount # Y02103. For a roofbox confirmed to fit, I recommend the Thule Pulse Large Rooftop Cargo Box - 16 cu ft - Matte Black # TH615.

Here's another question for you. I'm trying to look at this from all angles. How do you recommend loading the kayak, bicycle, cargo box, etc on top of the car? Is there a video that demonstrates the proper way to do this?? Also, I was thinking of getting a trailer hitch installed and use a bike rack there instead of putting it on top. What do you think? I believe I saw that you have those. Thanks!!

To load bigger articles like a kayak, I recommend the Rhino-Rack Universal Load Assist - Crossbar Mount - Side Loading - 132 lbs # RR-RUSL. This gives you a pivoting point for you to load larger items on your roof rack without scratching your vehicle. This system works well for cargo boxes and kayaks, but bikes require simply lifting which can be difficult. I do recommend getting a trailer hitch and a hitch mounted carrier over a roof bike rack. For your 2013 Hyundai Elantra, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # 24902. The Swagman XTC-2 2-Bike Platform Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Trailer Hitches # S64670 will be an easy to load rack that will serve you well. I recommend also using the anti-rattle lock and cable # S64031 to secure your bikes and carrier.

I'm happy to help. For a hitch mounted cargo carrier on your 2013 Hyundai Elantra, you will have limited options for your Class I hitch, but I recommend the 17x46 Curt Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Steel - 500 lbs # C18145. Even though this cargo carrier is rated for 500 lbs, you will be limited to the 200 lb tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch receiver. This carrier will give you a nice lightweight basket with a lot of tie down points for your cargo with the top rail. This will be a very nice option for you to carry a little more cargo and keep it outside of your vehicle.
