Hello neighbors, Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're talking fire pits and this is the BioLite Firepit+, it's a portable fire pit that's smokeless. So this will let you enjoy the warmth and both functionality of the campfire without the smoke and you can accommodate both charcoal and or wood and it's gonna be a great fuel cooking experience. So you can use it for camping, tailgating, backyard barbecues, and so much more. It has a nice internal fan that circulates airflow and that airflow's gonna come in here and trap in the smoke and essentially burn that smoke as fuel and thus have a more efficient smoke-free fire. So I wanna show you that fan body here.
First off, from the top, you can push a little button here and that releases it. There's that in front of my thumb there, that gray button that releases it. The fan is shooting air out of here and it's going inside of the side here and going through the silver tubes inside. Now it also has two ports on it, A USB and the micro USB. Where's it at There you go.
So USB and next to it the micro USB, and what you do is you simply hold the power down for four seconds, that turns it on, and then you can change the fan speeds. And I'll put this closer to my mic so you can hear it. So you can hear it going. It's got four speeds and again, it's usually clip onto here and now it's blowing air all throughout these tubes inside. I'm gonna go ahead and shut that off.
So again, holding the power down for four seconds, shuts it off or on. You got the included cable here with both \of those connections as well. That's gonna be used to charge it. Now when it's fully charged, you can actually charge other stuff off of it. The battery has a 12,800 milliamps.
It can burn on low at 30 hours long. If you have it on medium speed, 14 hours, and on highest speed, it'll give you seven hours of blow time. The legs on the bottom can actually fold up. There's push pins on all four of these and you could push that in and fold up the leg. Lemme come around to the front so I can see it better. So again, you can fold up all four legs and I'll keep the back two up, but kind of show you if you had it folded up, then it's about that tall on the tabletop. So while it's folded up with the legs folded, it's gonna be 27 inches overall 12 inches wide and 10 and a half inches tall. Now once you put those legs out, that's gonna change the height to 15 and three quarter inches tall. Now going from the top, you can take off this grate here. That's one of your cooking ones. Inside where you put the charcoal or the wood. This guy can be picked up and taken out carefully. It's got legs on it. You've got a slot over here that you can pull open. That's where you would let out the ash. It very simply goes back in place, and then same thing with the grilling surface. You can put it right back on top. It's got a nice edge around it, or a ledge or a fence, whatever you wanna call it. That'll help keep stuff from rolling off. Maybe you got a whole bunch of hot dogs or something on top that'll keep them from rolling off on you. Well folks, again, a very nice barbecue fire pit combo. It is BioLites. You can use an energy app as well. You can control the fire intensity, monitor the battery power and access special features with their BioLite Energy app. So another great design feature that comes with it. Now, if you notice it has a nice mesh body all the way around it on three sides. That's gonna let you one see it and get the ambiance. It's gonna let the heat come out for the fire pit experience, and it's also gonna give you a nice viewing of those hot embers and ash and everything while you're sitting there watching the fire. Everything on the outside is a nice durable, enamel coated steel, so it's gonna be rust resistant. And again, it's a simple setup. You unfold the legs, add the fuel, light it up. You're good to go. Turn the fan on to keep it going smokeless. Folks, I'm Steven. Thanks so much for your time. Thanks for watching. Stay safe out there while you're cooking.
The BioLite FirePit+ is one of those pieces of gear that really blends fun and function at the campsite. I grilled up some chicken kebabs here at etrailer and got to test out how it runs with charcoal, though you can use firewood too. What makes this different from your usual fire pit is the built-in battery-powered fan system it pulls air through tubes along the base and sides of the pit, which helps burn more efficiently and keeps the smoke down. I set mine on a fire pit mat to protect the surface underneath (super helpful if you're setting up on a deck or grass), and with the fan running, I got those nice heat waves rising but not the smoky cloud that usually comes with grilling.
Setup is quick — unfold the legs, load your charcoal or wood, and get it going. I found that cranking the fan to the highest setting after cooking helped burn off fuel faster, which meant less time waiting around to clean up. I used the optional fire pit poker to shift coals and adjust the grill grate while cooking, which made things a lot easier. Between the mesh sides that let you see the fire, the enamel-coated steel that holds up well outdoors, and the ability to pair it with extra accessories like the griddle or grill lid, this fire pit really lets you customize your cooking setup. It’s perfect for camping, backyard hangs, or whenever you want that cozy fire vibe without walking away smelling like smoke.
After cooking out at home a couple of evenings, I give this a 5 out of 5 stars for sure. Biggest reason is the ability to control the heat much like a propane grill, but way better- with a convection type heat and the flavor of charcoal or wood. You can crank up the heat or let it dissipate when you want. That kind of control is pretty unique in my book for a portable natural fuel grill. I cooked a pork tenderloin (a few actually) to perfection, burgers, chicken breast, vegetables... I was hero of the grill for sure. The heat shield worked very well. Used the grill on my deck table out back without any worry or impact to the surface. Be sure to have plenty of fuel (wood or charcoal) on hand when using it. Cranking up the heat for a good cook does mean your supplies will burn faster than kettle grills, but totally worth it. For cleanup, I let the grill cool overnight then just dumped the ashes for an easy cleanup. A quick trigger from a leaf blower blew off any remaining debris before packing it back up. I'm not sure if ashes could or would make their way into the airflow ductwork, but the leaf blower made sure it wasn't a concern. Good stuff!
The Biolite Fire Pit packs up neatly, even with extra accessories. It’s a bit heavy, but I didn’t care—I was too excited about the smokeless fire and had already tested cooking on it at etrailer. My first tailgate was going to be flawless.
It was not.
Turns out, wood pellets are a bad idea (not my call). With no backup firewood, I tried to make it work. Instead, I got a face full of smoke, panicked, and fumbled the fan settings. The pellets smothered the airflow. Human error: 100%.
That said, I still want one of these badly. I’d use it every fall evening while sitting out back. I’ve never cared for firepits, but this one is so compact and easy I’d actually use it.
I also own a giant outdoor griddle I hate and would rather cook on this. If I were still a Scout leader, I would have killed for one packs up nicely, easy to clean, fully portable.
My next Biolite experience? This fall. I’m borrowing one again, and this time, I’m in charge of the firewood.
