I had a steel cargo carrier that I used often in the past but it was heavy and hard to put on at times. Most aluminum ones I saw were smaller...this one is the same size as my prior steel one and much lighter. Capacity close to what my hitch can hold. Its easy to put on. Fits my honda crv very well. Won't rust. Has nice holes for bungee chords or ratcheting tie downs. I used it to haul garbage cans full of yard debris. Will use it when travelling with friends to carry suit cases or cooler etc. Plan to get a waterproof bag or shell to put them in and tie to carrier.

Quick delivery. Easy to assemble. Perfect for my application on a 5th wheel.

I was looking for a cargo carrier I could use to carry a few items on a longer road trip. I wanted one that would allow the back doors to open on a Nissan NV200 (when the carrier is unloaded). This one has enough clearance to allow the doors to open when you don't have gear on it. I was seeking aluminum for lighter weight. I like the design which has an aluminum tray but steel brackets.

Good quality, easy assembly, light weight but sturdy. There's a fair amount of assembly but all the hardware was there and good. Things like carriage bolts with squared fittings and lock nuts make assembly very easy. All parts were included, instructions flawless. Of course, the abundance of info provided by etrailer makes choices very easy - so you get it right (videos, photos, specs, check against your vehicle). Buying from etrailer has never been disappointing for me.

This was easy to assemble and integrated nicely with our 2017 Honda Pilot. Combined with the Cargo Bag, it provided reliable storage for our trip. Very sturdy construction.

I have been using this cargo rack for 6 months and love it! It's had everything from coolers, to firewood, to lawn mower and string trimmers on it. Customer service at etrailer is second-to-none, too.

This cargo rack has still performed great! The aluminum mesh is starting to sag in two places, but I assume that it is because I overloaded the rack with firewood and there is no extra support in those areas. Great product for sure - it holds up very well for all the abuse I put it through.
Ed - 02/03/2022

The mesh grill is cut to allow 4 more carriage bolts & locknuts and 2 more braces. Why were these not included? Or optional to include?

We will be sending this over to our engineering department to look into this possibility.

I chose this carrier due to being the lightest weight for its size and load rating. Additionally, I was looking for a dual purpose carrier to haul bulky items outside the vehicle and full sized mountain bikes. The carrier is simple to assemble, easy to install/remove, and store. As for hauling mountain bikes, I added a fork axle mount to a piece of oak. Bottom line - for less than the price of dedicated hitch bike rack with the optionality to haul firewood and fuel to the trailhead it's worked great.

Modified this aluminum, folding cargo carrier to carry my recumbent trike on our motorhome. Added anti-rattle clamp to receiver and it removed the rattles.

Instructions were good product is excellent. Product arrived ahead of schedule and I was able to get it assembled shortly thereafter. Check my photos. My hitch clamp would not work with the product and I need a storage box.

excellent Product Assembly was easy and it does the intended job. Its light and folds easily.

Purchased this to replace almost identical unit I’ve had for 17 years I just have to my son. Old unit was all aluminum. The new is steel on structural parts. Heavier but stronger.
I use to haul sewer hose box, steps,
Grill, camp chairs firewood.

I just did 800 miles with this cargo carrier and had no problem, but make sure you purchase the anti rattle pin because it has some play in the hitch.

Love the gate. We put it on the back of our camper for an easy up in our bikes. It works great and it’s lightweight

Great product. Easy assembly perfect size and weight. I've ordered several products from etrailer. Shipping, customer service and install videos are great!
I added reflective tape seen in picture.

I really want to like this product. It is lightweight and very easy to install on my hitch. I use it about a dozen times a year to carry gas cans to refill my boat. It’s the ideal size and carries the cans quite well. Unfortunately is is already beginning to show signs of wear with some of the welds holding the base mesh to the frame failing. There are also a few dents developing in the mesh where the wheels on my gas tank meet the base. Giving how few times I’ve used it, and how little time it has spent on the car, I am very surprised to see these failures. I have some concerns about long-term durability. That said, it still works great for what I need and am happy that it is so easy to install.

I continue to enjoy using this product. I like the light weight and easy installation. The dents in the mesh have not gotten any worse, and the rack continues to hold together well.

I just assembled the tray and it was easy with the clear instructions. I actually think it is a good idea to assemble the tray so you would know which bolts to check for tightness. I haven't tried it yet, but I already appreciate how lite it is.

A great basket for the price. Consider adding reflective tape, as well as adding a hitch tightener to prevent the basket from swaying side to side. Here are my photos

I have sent you a picture of the completion of the carrier it was easy to put together it's lightweight I have back problems easy to put together and well worth the price can't wait to use it John K

Works great love it

Nice, light weight, easy to use. I use this to haul my trash to the dump, i can fit 4 33 gallon square containers on it. I use a long bungie cord across the top to secure them. Keeps the trash barrels out of the car.

Examined, assembled, and tested - not yet actually used on the road. The downsides are too minor to drop it to 4 Stars.
I didn't have a scale handy, but this is easily about half the weight of the steel rack of the same size - Yes !!
While I know from experience with sheet-metal shearing that VERY sharp edges can be created, my unit did not have much of any such problem. I recommend that these edges be carefully felt, and smoothed with a file or grinding stone if needed, before assembly.
The instructions were clear and correct. I would use the word "snug" instead of "80%" to describe bolt tightening during assembly. Any experienced mechanic knows to not fully tighten any fasteners until all related alignment parts are in place.
I would absolutely recommend that the bolts of Step 1 and 4 be inserted with the smooth head on the inside (where the bag would touch), rather than with nuts/bolts inside as pictured where they could cause damage.
I would also absolutely use a dry lubricant, such as spray Teflon, on the contact surfaces between 2" shank #6 and foldable connection bar #9. This will allow you to tighten the big pivot bolt VERY snug, and still easily rotate the joint - DO NOT USE ANY LIQUID LUBRICANT.
The hitch-pin hole location did not line up if fully inserted into my hitch. I could have used it that way, but I marked and drilled a better-location pin hole instead.
The unit feels very strong - no sign of bending even with my 240 pounds bouncing on the rearmost end. Yes people, ALL hitches are wiggly "loose" by design - use a hitch tightener U-Bolt/Plate assembly, and/or actually tie the left and right ends to the vehicle.

I havent had occasion to load it with 500 pounds, but I did put 300 pounds of trash bags on it dont ask and it worked just fine. There is some rust already showing on the steel parts - they could have been painted/coated better.

Very easy to assemble but it did not fit in the upright position on my 2011 Chevy Traverse. The license plate is in the bumper and the sides of the carrier impact the bumper on either side of the license plate when folded upright. The sides of the license plate are molded plastic that protrude from the bumper to house the lights for the plate. The simple fix was to bend the sides in a bit. That solution was better than trying to figure out how to extend the carrier further from the bumper to allow for another inch of clearance. The bend was easy using vice grips as the sides are aluminum. For the price and the 2X/year that I'll use this for beach chairs or extra luggage it's fine despite the fact it was not a perfect fit. What I like best is that it folds up and that it is very lightweight. It would be easy to stow on the roof rack if parking is tight or just to get it out of the way when accessing the trunk. And it'll come in handy if I ever have to haul the mower or blower to the shop since it's low ground clearance makes for easy loading and will keep my vehicle's interior from getting dirty. It would be nice if it came with a license plate holder that could be used in both flat and upright positions. I'll drill holes in the sides to mount the plate. A notice should be included to ensure that the license plate is not blocked from view when in use. We are driving to FL again this year and our concern is that Barney Fife will hassle us for an obstructed view of the plate. Last year we used a turtle top carrier but it is so high up on an SUV its impractical for quick trips to the beach. This carrier will be great for the cooler and sandy beach chairs and stuff. I'm thinking a large mesh utility bag to help keep all the stuff contained and make securing the load easier would be a nice extra. Last, it shipped on time and the order was complete with an additional item , a hitch lock, that all arrived in perfect condition. You need a lock for this b/c it is so light it'd probably be gone if you left it unlocked in a parking lot. Ordering was very easy! Thanks E-Trailer

The carrier worked great. I purchased a large nylon cargo bag that not only kept stuff clean and dry it gave added peace of mind to ensure my stuff stayed put. I found a license plate holder that I attached to the bottom so when folded up I could move my plate from the rear side of the tray to the bottom mount quickly by using wing nuts. I looped two ratchet tie down straps around the base of each rear door shock and then hooked them to the the outside corners of the tray to keep it from sagging and wobbling. The straps also gave peace of mind when hitting bumps in the road that would otherwise make me cringe thinking it would reduce the stress on the unit overall. I recommend padding if you are using a cargo bag to prevent the metal from wearing on the bag. The downside of not using the turtle roof cargo carrier is that having stuff easily accessible from the ground means you have to be more vigilant about security when stopping to eat. We did not not over night anywhere but had we I probably would have taken all my stuff off the tray and into the room which is something you might not have to do with a lockable rooftop carrier. But for day trips to the beach you cant beat the value bc it is close to the ground and keeps all the sandydirty stuff outside and or off your roof rack.

The Cargo Carrier was easy to assemble. The fact it's aluminum and not steel makes it light weight and easy to handle compared to the steel counterpart. The nice size makes it handy to store in the box of the pick-up or fold up on the hitch. Endless applications, just stay under 500 pound loads.

Good product, but wish it was made in the USA. Instead it took months to get it.

Could not be better. Aluminum light and sturdy. Stores easily, carries easily. I have it on a Jeep Wrangler with a tire on the back. The hing is not long enough to let me fold the carrier up when not in use. For someone ordering for a Jeep you may want to take this into consideration. No matter the carrier is a great buy.

Great it has paid for itself over and over
