Thank you for getting back to me. My car is a 2005 Acura MDX. It does have a trailer hitch and I would prefer not pulling a trailer. Would like to know more about the best options to add storage space. Thank you for your help!

The most economical way for you to maximize the storage space on your 2005 Acura MDX are a rooftop cargo bag that attaches to your Acura's roof rack as well as a hitch-mounted cargo carrier. For a rooftop cargo bag I recommend the Rightline Gear Sport 3 Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S30. This is a 48" long x 40" wide x 19" tall bag that will give you 18 cubic feet of storage space. It secures to your Acura's roof rack with four straps and is waterproof so if you happen to run into wet weather on your drive across the country your gear will be protected. A hitch-mounted cargo carrier is also going to help maximize your storage space and a great option is the 19 X 47 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18145. This is a 60" long x 20" wide carrier that has a capacity of 300 lbs if your Acura has a 1-1/4" hitch or 500 lbs if you have a 2" hitch (please note your capacity will be limited by whatever is lower, the carrier or the tongue weight of your hitch). I You can add 20 cubic feet of storage space with Cargo Bag # 988501, which is water resistant with watertight seams and has six tie-down straps which work with the tie-down to your carrier and allow you to secure the bag.
