Padded, Ratcheting Hooks

Swagman XC-Extended bike rack ratcheting arms

The mast has a pair of ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes securely by the top tube. And because they move independently, you can carry bikes of different shapes and sizes. The hooks have soft padding that won't scratch or scuff your bike's paint.

Wheel Hoops for Recumbent Bikes and Standard Bikes

Swagman XC-Extended XC wheel hoopsSwagman XC-Extended XTC wheel hoops

The XC-Extended bike rack comes with 2 sets of black XC wheel hoops, which are great for carrying standard bikes. It also comes with 2 sets of silver XTC wheel hoops to give you extra length for carrying recumbent bikes. The hoops adjust with a hand knob and slide along the arms of the rack to accommodate each bike's wheelbase. Just loosen the hand knob to swap out the XC wheel hoops with the XTC. They also include rubber straps to secure your wheels to the rack.

Swagman XC-Extended measurements with XC wheel hoops installed

The XC cradles measure 65" outside to outside and 37" inside to inside. They hold tires up to 3-1/2" wide bikes with wheelbases up to 52" wide.

Swagman XC-Extended measurements with XTC wheel hoops installed

The XTC wheel hoops measure 81" outside to outside and 51-1/2" inside to inside. They hold tires up to 2-1/2" wide and wheelbases up to 69". They also include straps that secure your bike's wheels to the rack.

Folding Mast and Bike Trays

Swagman Traveler XC2 2-Bike CarrierSwagman Traveler XC2 2-Bike Carrier

You can fold the mast down for easy access to your hatch. Simply pull the pin at the base of the mast and fold it down in either direction. You can also fold the trays up against the mast for storage. Just pull the pins at the junctions where the trays meet the rack, fold the trays up, and reinsert the pins into the provided holes.

Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin and Removable Adapter Sleeve

Adapter Sleeve

The rack includes a threaded hitch pin and a clip that work with a built-in anti-wobble device in the shank to eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. You can replace the pin and clip with an anti-rattle lock (sold separately) to secure the bike carrier to your vehicle. It also has a removable aluminum sleeve that lets you convert the rack for use in 1-1/4" hitches.

I have bad shoulders and could no longer lift my long wheelbase recumbent bike up to my Thule rack. The new rack solved the problem and made it much easier to load the bike. Very happy I got the new Swagman rack.

by:

Thank you again for such excellent customer service. I am including two pics from today showing the bikes mounted on my 2009 Honda Fit with the bike rack we purchased from you. Please feel free to use them in any of your publications, print or web.

Wonderful! We are now carrying TWO recumbents on it. Will get a pic next time I have a chance. - Just to be clear though, there is a weight limit on the rack so make sure you watch that as some recumbent bikes can be heavy. We have Bacchetta Corsas, which are light and fall within the specs of the rack to carry both.

Bought this rack to transport a SWB and A LWB recumbent. Ordered it after reading some reports on it. We were in the middle of a move from Georgia to Wisconsin and had to leave one of our vehicles in Atlanta. I found a SWB in Tennessee and needed to transport it to Wisconsin with our vehicle when I flew back to Atlanta to drive the our vehicle home.

I had the carrier sent to my friends home in Atlanta. When I arrived from the airport I was able to install the primary support into the 2" receiver and bolt in place. The bolt tightened down the support so there was no play in the connection. I then took off for Wisconsin with a stop in Tennessee to test drive/purchase the bike and take it home. I had a lot riding on the performance this bike rack. If it didn't work I would forego the purchase of the bike I had found.

Got to Tennessee and purchased the bike. Took the components out of the book and assembled them onto the primary support member. Adjustment of the tire holders to fit the wheel base was easy and fast, actually did it in the dark with a flash light. Really liked the removable pins with the ball detents in them. That made the entire process very simple and quick. We had the bike on the rack in less than 10 minutes.

I transported the bike more than 900 miles with it on the rack. It performed perfectly at speeds above the posted limits. I have attached a photo showing it in our driveway at home.

The only concern I have with the rack is the attachment of the rack to the primary support. This is not a tight compression fit and it wobbles a little. This causes the bike to behave a bit like a rocking horse when it is on the rack. This connection condition, while not critical needs to be a little tighter to make it a rock solid mount.

I highly recommend this rack, it performs as promised and is a great value.

Still works just fine. Glad I purchased this.

by:

Rack arrived a day earlier than promised. Very easy to assemble. I did not need the extensions, but glad I have them for the future. The sleeve that fits the 2" receiver is a little loose so whole rack is wobbly, but should be able to correct with some sort of shim. I mounted on front of truck (because I pull a travel trailer) so clearance between inside bike pedal and truck grill really close. I wrapped pedal in towel to (hopefully) to prevent damage to truck grill. Very easy to load bikes on and off. Ratcheting clamp hold the bikes down well. There is a hole for a lock on the ratcheting clamp. So far, very happy with my purchase.

This bike rack comes with a threaded hitch pin to help keep the rack from wobbling inside the hitch receiver, but if youre still seeing too much play, the Quiet Hitch # RM-061 anti-rattle device is another great option to remove slack between the shank and receiver. You could also try securing the top of the bike rack to your tow loops with a ratchet strap like part # 317-402400.

by:

First rate. EZ to assemble, install. Reliable carrier. Fairly light, but sturdy. Love it!

by:

Well designed and made. Holds bikes firmly. Easy to fold 'wings' upright and out of the way and to tilt center post down for opening the SUV lift gate. Works great with my Rans Stratus LE recumbent which has a 69" wheelbase, and can also carry a regular road bike at the same time.

by:

Excellent service! Less than 3 days for free delivery! Fairly easy to put together. Had no problems taking 1 lwb recumbent and 1 diamond frame bike 120 miles. Excellent quality for reasonable price.

by:

Simply awesome !! Delivered a day earlier than expected, packaged beautifully, and went together very easily. The design is a work of art - extremely easy to collapse for convenient storage, very sturdy, and provides for very flexible use: 2 recumbents, 1 regular bike & 1 recumbent, or two regulars. Even the packaging is easy to prep for cardboard-only recycling!

by:

After a lot of researching I came to find this Swagman. It was about $100 less than the competitor and I called customer service and they were awesome. They explained what I need to measure on my brakes because I have a recumbent and a regular bike. It came with great instructions and it was easy to put together. It is well-built and easy to use. I always had a bike rack that hung and this is much better. I highly recommend it and once again the customer service was great.

Great!!!!!

by:

This rack worked great with my recumbent bike (Rans Rocket) and my wife's road bike. I searched for weeks to find a rack that would work with both bikes and finally lucked out and found this one. The extended loops gave it just enough room for both bikes. And, the bikes are rock solid on the rack with just one quick lock of the sliding hook. Time from set up to driving off with the bikes is less than five minutes. This includes attaching the rack to the vehicle. Great bike rack. Very easy on the back too!

Im still using the hitch and it still works great!

Very nice rack for a recumbent long wheel base bike.easy to set up for my bike.easy to load the bike and take off.on a Jeep with a spare tire you can only haul one bike but I only haul one bike. Price was good and shipping was very fast. The best rack for the money that I could find.

It’s working great have had no problems with it, holding up very well.

by:

This product is just as advertised! Light duty but sturdy enough to handle a 33lb., long wheelbase recumbent and 28lb. mountain bike. Assembly is a very straight forward DIY project!
Many thanks to etrailer for excellent service!

Kurt

This is truly a nice product. It is light duty but easily handles 60lbs. After a year of use in all weather conditions there are no paint failure or corrosion issues. Great versatility!

by:

I love this trailer. Only one problem is that the 2" adapter is a bit loose in the hitch. Planning to add a shim to correct that. I have a recumbent and the adjustment wheel brackets work perfect. I highly recommend it to other "bent" riders.

8/21/2013

I have two long wheel base recumbents. Would they both fit on the Swagman S64650 EXT? Wheel base is about 70 Thanks, Dale

Etrailer Expert

Patrick B.

8/21/2013

The maximum wheel base is 66 inches, so your recumbents may be a bit long. Hollywood Racks, part HR1000R, will accommodate up to a 74 inch wheel base and it is a similar design as the Swagman.

by:

This bike rack is the only one that I could find that can be used for a recumbent or a regular bike. That's why I bought it. Actually, I have only used it one time since I did not need my bikes transported but once. The bikes survivied the trip, but there was more wobbling. Maybe I need to adjust my installation. It's quite similar to the way city buses hold the bikes.

David W.

7/6/2015

Very pleased! I made an adjustment to reduce the wobbling. I adjusted the space between the tires of the bikes. I havent used the rack for my recumbant yet.

by:

This bike rack is great - holds a recumbent & a regular bike, no problem. Has been across the country and back, easy to use.

by:

Gets the job done. I really like the feature where I can tilt the bike rack outward so I can access my truck's tailgate. I wWish this model/style had the additional ability to lay the stand-up post to a horizontal position and then fold the unit upward flat behind my truck's tailgate. A negative aspect: The wheel supports don't tighten securely on the cross frame, which prompts me to remove and stow them each time I drive anywhere without the bikes.

by:

Just received our carrier. Easy to assemble and very solid when mounted on the car. We haven't used it yet but my bikes are very secure. This is exactly what I wanted. Great carrier .

Great bike rack. Adjusts to fit my oversize bike and wifes avg size bike at the same time. Very sturdy

by:

I received the bike rack and it was not hard to put it together. As I adjusted it to place my wheels on it they would not fit. The bars are not long enough for the bike. My recumbent is an EZ Sport EX .

You mentioned that the bars are not long enough for your bike. Can you tell me what the wheel base measurement - the center from one wheel to the next wheel - is on your bike? Is it the length of the bike rack bar that is too short or the hooks?

Charles

7/8/2022

I received the other box today every thing is good. I didnt realize that there were two boxes. It works great.

by:

I am very happy with my recumbent bike rack. It is super easy to attach and I am enjoying many long hours on the trails now. Thanks so much.

I am still just as satisfied as I was when I got it. I love the ease of loading and unloading. I can do it in about 5 minutes and then off I go to the trail. Thanks again. Great product~

by:

Best bike rack for recumbent bikes for the money. I have two of them. One is a four bike rack and the other one is a two bike rack.

by:

Etrailer has been so very helpful. I have a woman's Giant Cypress bike that hangs very low on a rack - especially on a car. I sent pictures and measurments and etrailer examined the hitch and bike then made a recommendation for a Swagman platform bike rack. (The swing away's would not work) It was fairly easy to put together. We effortlessly put the two bikes on and it felt very secure with plenty of room above the ground. On the highway I watched it from the back window and felt confident that the bikes would not come loose. We traveled about 80 miles with no problems. The only complaint I have would be it was difficult to unhitch the bike hooks; the latch seemed to stick a bit. I was very pleased with our first voyage.

by:

Good Product. There is a bit of play between the hitch and rack. I think there should be a place to LOCK the rack to the hitch so that it cannot be stolen...instead I just pack up the rack and keep in locked in my car, while riding. The lock I did get, I will return because it was WAAY to long
to keep the bike steady...too much play when driving.
This hitch and rack work really well on my Honda fit when considering that i am putting a 2 wheel recumbent on it. I'll know better in the fall how well it works...I live in AZ. and it is now way to hot to ride.
All in all, I would recommend this to anyone wanting to carry a bike on a small car. It is really well made.

by:

I have a Cruzbike Silvio and due to their shape, it is difficult to find a carrier. I read about the Swagman XC - Extended platform and ordered it. I am not a handy person or mechanical, yet putting together this carrier was a breeze. The only negative thing was the photos found in the instructions were small and difficult to see so I took a photo with my phone and expanded the photo and that handled that issue. It took me a very short amount of time to put this together and attach it to my truck. Attaching the carrier to my truck is easy and it holds my Cruzbike very well. I typically take my bike to our local bike path. While out riding, I detach the carrier, fold it up, and place it in my truck for safety. I highly recommend this carrier, especially if you have a recumbent bicycle.

by:

Swagman bike rack arrived yesterday. After removing all contents from the packages and laying them all on my garage floor I placed the universal foot into my Forester hitch receiver and proceeded to assemble the rack there, in-situ. So easy to put together and it took a little more than an hour. It is very well made, solid, does not wobble and looks great. I can't wait to get on the road with our bikes soon. I am confident that this rack will serve us well for many years to come.

by:

Carrier is a wonderful design. I purchased it to transport my LWB recumbent and my wife's mountain bike and it handles both perfectly. It is very easy to install and remove thanks to the fold-up feature. I received this hitch a couple business days after I ordered it. Really fast shippers and great people to do business with. I would recommend this rack from etrailer.com to anyone needing a hitch mount rack.

The Swagman XC 2-Bike Platform Style Rack # S64650 that you referenced is just a little short on wheelbase capacity for your Cruzbike Sofrider's 52-inch wheelbase, but Swagman does offer a specialized carrier just for recumbents, their XC-Extended Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack # S64650-EXT. This rack fits all 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitches and includes two sets of wheel hoops that give it plenty of room for your 52-inch wheelbase...

  • Recommended Solution to Carry Extra Long Bike With a 2014 GMC Terrain
No, your bike is just a touch too large for the Swagman Skaha 2 Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # S67SR. Since your wheelbase is so long there actually is not going to be a rack that we carry that'll allow you to carry your bike as the longest wheelbase rack we have is the Swagman XC-Extended Bike Rack for 2 Recumbent Bikes # S64650-EXT which can handle a maximum wheelbase of 69". If you're not able to shorten the bike enough to meet the maximum wheelbase length,...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for a Tandem Bike
No, I am sorry Jim the Softride Hang2 2-Bike Rack item # SR27041 does not work with tandem bikes. The only option I have for a hitch mounted bike rack, that is compatible, would be the Swagman XC-Extended Bike Rack item # S64650-EXT. You would need to make sure your bike's wheel base is 69" or less and weighs 35 lbs or less. The Swagman XC-Extended Bike Rack item # S64650-EXT also mounts in 1-1/4" Class II and 2" hitch receivers. It weighs 38 lbs.

To determine if you have enough clearance to install you will need to take one measurement. You will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin on your hitch out to the furthest point out on the rear of your vehicle. This will tell you what clearance is needed on a bike rack to clear the bumper on your Toyota Solara SLE. This rack has a distance of 10-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin out to the upright portion of the rack. If the distance you measure is less than that...

  • Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for an EZ-Sport Recumbent Bike
To carry your Easy Sport Recumbent using the hitch on your 2005 Lexus RX330, I would recommend the Swagman XC Extended Bike Rack # S64650-EXT. This rack is an extended version designed to accommodate Recumbent bike. The Swagman # S64650-EXT will accommodate bikes with a wheel base of up to 66 inches and my research shows that the EZ-Sport recumbent bike has a wheel base of 62 inches. The weight capacity of this rack is 80 lbs. To determine if your bike will fit the rack, you will need...
