Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Hitch Bike Rack on Vehicle

The Trail Rider platform-style hitch bike rack makes it simple to carry 1 or 2 bicycles on the rear of your vehicle. This versatile rack is easy to use and it features locking frame hooks and adjustable wheel hoops, so you can quickly load and unload your bikes. The included adapter sleeve enables the rack to fit both 1-1/4" and 2" hitch receivers. A locking, anti-rattle hitch pin tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the receiver.

Locking, Ratcheting Hooks

Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Ratcheting, Padded Wheel Hools

Constructed of rugged steel with a sleek black powder coat finish, the Trail Rider uses locking frame hooks to secure your bikes. The ratcheting hooks are easily adjusted along the vertical mast and lock securely in place. The push buttons allow the hooks to slide up the ratcheting system to allow for bike removal. The lock cores keep the hooks from being moved up or down on the mast to deter theft. The hooks are different sizes and each one functions independently, meaning the rack can carry 2 bikes of the same or different heights.

Adjustable Wheel Holders

Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Adjustable Wheel Holders

The wheel holders accommodate bicycles with wheelbases up to 60", and you can adjust the wheel hoops by sliding them along the horizontal arms. They are secured in place with hand knobs. Velcro-like hook-and-loop straps secure your bike's wheels to the holders.

Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Adjustable Wheel Holders

If you want to carry a fat bike on the Trail Rider, you can replace the rack's wheel hoops with specifically-designed fat bike cradles (HRSPRWH-F-HD - sold separately).

Folding Design

Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Folded Up on Vehicle

The Sport Rider's folding design makes it easy to store your bike rack. Simply fold up the arms for compact storage.

Easy Installation with Locking Hitch Pin

The Trail Rider easily installs in your hitch with the included locking hitch pin. Just slide the shank into your receiver, insert the hitch pin, and then tighten it down with the included tool. The pin also works as an anti-wobble device to eliminate sway and rattle in the receiver. The frame hook locks and the hitch lock are conveniently keyed alike.

Hollywood Racks adapter sleeve

A removable adapter sleeve is included so the rack can be converted for use with 1-1/4" hitch receivers. The sleeve attaches to the shank with a single screw and can be installed or removed quickly.

Add-On Adapters

 Hollywood Racks Wheel Hoop Adapters

If you want to use the rack to transport a kid's bike with 16" or 18" wheels, wheel hoop adapters (HRSW-ADP-2 - sold separately) are available.

If you want to transport 1 recumbent delta trike or 1 recumbent tadpole-style trike with the Trail Rider, you can use the HRTRK-ADP adapter (sold separately).

I needed a rack to carry 2 e-bikes weighing 35 lbs. each. While some tray or platform racks have a greater weight capacity, they also cost hundreds of dollars more than this Hollywood rack. This rack was delivered in just 2 days and was easy to set up. It weighs less than my old hanging style Hollywood rack and it is easy to use. The locking anti-rattle hitch works perfect. The padded locking clamps hold the bikes securely while protecting the finish of the paint. This rack is exactly what I needed, and etrailer was wonderful to deal with!

Very happy with this purchase although the original assembly came with a dysfunctional lock on one of the hooks. I called and described the problem and was promptly sent a new pair that worked as intended. Great customer service! Also bought a hitch that mounted easily to my Murano using the video provided by etrailer. One year of long and short trips and still very happy with the purchase and the follow up.

Still working great for long and short trips. Just recommended etrailer to my son for his new SUV.

My experience with etrailer.com couldn't have been better. First, there was a great YouTube video about the Hollywood bike rack that I was purchasing. Then the order was shipped promptly and arrived in just a few days. The packaging was solid and the rack arrived in perfect condition. The price was very good also. I would highly recommend etrailer.com based on my experience. I tested the rack on my 2020 Subaru Forester with 1 1/4 inch hitch receiver with our two bicycles and it worked just fine.

It works great after a year of use. I could not be happier with it.

Assembles without too much difficulty. Use metric wrenches. Velcro straps are too short to use with wide tires. When installing the wheel carriers, have rubber mallet handy and put small amount of anti seize lubricant on threads of the knobs that tighten wheel carrier to unit's frame. I used anti seize on any bolt or screw I installed.

I've been using this bike rack for over a year now and I love it. I only carry one bike so I leave off the farthest rack to make it a little more compact. Some minor rust spots popped up pretty shortly after using it around the holes for the steel pegs that allow the tire holders to fold up and down. Nothing to worry about though as it was just minor surface rust where the steel peg actually makes contact with the hole and it never went past the circumference of the hole. There is really nothing that the manufacturer could do to stop that as any coating they put on there would get rubbed off by inserting and removing the steel peg over and over, or even just from it vibrating inside the hole. A few months ago I did have to spray some lock lube into the lock as it was getting tough to press in to slide the top arm up and down, but again that is normal since it's out in the weather. The only other thing I would mention is that when a bike is installed (in the closest position to the trunk) I'm unable to open my trunk as the handlebars are in the way. Again, that is to be expected and I'm pretty sure most other cars will have the same issue. I don't mind as I like the bike to be as close as possible to the car without touching it which is how this bike rack is set up. I use the bike rack at least twice a week and I would definitely recommend it without hesitation. I've included a couple of pictures - one right after I installed it (over a year ago) and one from today.

I assembled the bike rack the evening it got it. The instructions along with your online video were great tools to get it built ind install on my Nissan Frontier pickup. I drove 20 miles today and the rack held my bike secure. I have heard some stories about weather affecting the rack if you leave it in the elements which makes sense to me. After using it today I detached it from my truck and stored it in my garage out of the elements. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this bike rack. It is very beefed up and sturdy. I have ordered from etrailer before and customer service has always been excellent. The box came to me undamaged and packed very well. All parts were present. Totally happy experience.

This bike rack has a fatal design flaw. The sliding restraints that fit over the bike bar to hold it in place get stuck in place and you can't move them when you want to remove the bike. The company knows that they have a problem because in the instructions they have special warnings not to put the restraints down to far. Fact is that the only way the restraints release is if they barely touch the bars, in which case the bike is not secure. We've tried many work arounds. Even with putting a sponge between the bar and the restraint to provide some give the problem still exists. I can't even unload the bike on my own without my husband there to provide muscle and it's even frustrating for him. I wish I never bought this bike rack!

Comments
Thank you for your review. I contacted Hollywood and the procedure to release the stuck ratcheting arms is to apply a slight amount of downward pressure on the top of the hook while at the same time, pressing in on the lock cylinder. Once you have removed the arms put a light lubricant on the lock mechanism of the hook.

The rack is very well made and very complete, the only nock is that it moves a lot, meaning... The part where it hooks to the hitch has a little play because it's not a snug enough fit so when you put the bikes on the rack they rock from side to side just a little, it's secure and not going to fall but it's just little unnerving. I went ahead and got the strap that etrailer suggested when I added the rack to my cart and with that now it's perfect! I just wish it came with the rack since it makes such a big difference.

I am so happy with this bike rack! I had originally ordered a Swagman model for my Mazda 3 Hatchback, but Michelle S. contacted me when it wasn't immediately available. She recommended this brand. I love it! It was easy to assemble and the bikes are so secure. I love that it locks to my car, and that the hooks lock with the same key. The velcro straps for the tires are an added bonus. Very easy to use. The bikes hardly moved at all during our 3 hour drive this past weekend. My boyfriend and I have polar opposite sized bikes, and it was not a problem at all. They don't touch, and are very secure with this rack. It was a relief to travel and not have to worry about the bikes damaging each other or our vehicle. I am so thrilled with this product! I can't recommend it highly enough!

It has been a year since I bought this bike rack, and EVERY time my boyfriend and I drive somewhere with our bikes he says hes so glad I bought it. People come up to me with questions about the Hollywood bike rack when Im loading up the bikes all the time! I always refer them to e-trailer.com. Im still thrilled with this product!

The bike rack arrived quickly after ordering, the box was in good repair and all the parts of the rack were well packaged and in good condition. This is the second bike rack like this that I have had. This one is sturdier than my original one (9 years old). The rack installed into the hitch very easily (my daughter installed it) and together we put the rack together. I took my bike on a 600 km. trip and there was no shifting or swaying. This rack has locking grip bars (the down bars) which my previous one didn't. A nice touch. thank you. I then took my bike and a 5 year olds bike on the rack and though the grip bar didn't come down quite to the frame, it gripped the seat and I had no trouble adjusting the tire troughs to fit both bikes. Thank you for a great product. Debra

Other reviewers of this item mentioned assembly issues, though the parts fit snugly, and require some effort to complete, the carrier went together in about 15 minutes with no issues. I love the height the bike sits behind the car. I tend to cart my bike to somewhat remote locations and that extra ground clearance is very nice!

Comments
After a fairly active year with the rack riding is naturally socially distant. Bikes load and unload very easily. Stability while driving is also excellent.

I was impressed with this bike rack from the minute I unpacked it. The assembly was simple & straight forward. I looked at quite a few bike racks & for the price point this product was hard to beat. It is well designed & the keyhole pins make it easy to remove & fold up when not carrying the bikes. The locking hitch pin & locking frame bars are convenient and fairly secure. I will add my cable lock to make the bikes even a little more tamper proof. So far I’m very happy with this his purchase. Now the test of time!

Now we can transport our electric cruiser bikes with ease. We also purchased two Hollywood Racks Adapter Bars to secure the step thru bikes to the carrier.

- HR200Z
by:

Great bike rack for the price. With the hitch bolt tight, it doesn't seem to bounce much. It has a lot of adjustability for different bikes. Bikes are locked up and all locks are the same key.

- HR200Z
by:

Number one etrailer is great to work with! We thought the Hollywood rack was well designed and easy to use. Having said that we own some heavy bikes that were right at the design limit for this product. I did not like the bounce associated with this rack while driving. We gave it to our daughter who uses it with no problems on their lighter bikes. I bought a High end Thule platform rack for a lot more money. We recently ended a 3000 mile trip where we incurred freezing rain. At one point I know the bikes/rack EASILY had 50+ pounds of ice on them!! I am glad we had the additional capacity. DON'T buy a rack too close to its weight capacity for your bikes!!

- HR200Z
by:

I love this bike rack! It is secure, folds up easily when not in use, and plenty “beefy” to hold my bike and a lawn chair or second bike. There is little or no “wobble” when traveling. I highly recommend this rack!

- HR200Z
by:

Great design, really holds the bikes tight and secure. This rack is a far better choice than one where the bikes hang from an arm and rub against each other.

- HR200Z
by:

Exactly what I was looking for. Easy to take on and off of car hitch. I like that it locks onto the hitch as well as can lock the bikes in place. Strong construction but not too heavy to lift by myself (45 y/o female). Also easy to take bikes on and off. Bikes feel secure when mounted behind my VW beetle.

by:

We traveled across the country last winter with this bike rack, and to be honest I wouldn't recommend it. We mounted it on a brand new hitch on the front of our F350. By the end of the first day of travel, the entire rack (with both bikes) was "floating" around in the breeze with way too much play in it. We re-tightened the main bolt that holds the rack to the hitch every time we stopped the truck, but it wouldn't stay tight. Finally we bought some lock-tite somewhere in Oklahoma, and that worked for a little while. We are going out west again this year, and I am again looking for a new solution to this bike-carrying problem. My husband refuses to drive cross country with this rack again. I wish we hadn't spent so much money on it. eTrailer asked me for a 1-year review, and this is it. Don't buy this rack.

Comments
Thank you for your review. I recommend to use the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 1-14 Trailer Hitches part RM-061-125 to eliminate the wobble of the bike rack. The u-bolt style anti-wobble will tighten up the space between the bike rack shank and the hitch receiver. Please keep in mind it will only fit on a hitch with a collar.

Surprisingly sturdy for the price. Receiver tube is made from 3/16 inch wall thickness steel. Bikes are easy to load once it is all set up.

Great Bike Rack - I've used it three times this year to take our Rad Power Bikes to the beach. Easy enough to install on hitch and load up bikes. Folds up for compact storage when not in use on the car.

- HR200Z
by:

Well, I just got it and put it (Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Bike Rack for 2 bikes) on the car and used it for about a week so far. No long trips, but plenty of short trips and trips on rocky roads, gravel roads, etc. So far so good. My Thule hanging rack left much to be desired and this seems to be a lot better at holding the bike in place and not letting it slide around on the bars and scratch things up. Think I'm gonna like it.

I did some research and ordered the Sport Rider 2 for my 2019 GMC Canyon. Within a couple of days I learned the Sport Rider 2 was on back order for several months. I telephoned etrailer and was offered the Trail Rider in place of the Sport Rider. The Trail Rider had a few less standard features than the Sport Rider. I just needed the means to transport my newly purchased mountain bike. I’ve used the rack several times now and it’s great. It is built of good quality material and was easy to assemble. The rack easily mounts in my 2” receiver and does not moved once tightened down. This is a very stable platform for bicycle transport. I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend Hollywood Racks and etrailer.

- HR200Z
by:

I like the rack. The only concern is that if you clamp it down too tight, it is impossible to release.

- HR200Z
by:

Great rack for the price. At times the j hooks are a little difficult to release and while it does fold up for storage the shape is awkward. Those are the only 2 mild cons I can think of. It's a basic rack that does what it's suppose to.

The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2 # HR200Z can be used on any passenger vehicle and on a motorhome, but not on a travel trailer or 5th wheel. The reason why some bike racks should not be used on 5th wheels is that there is extra motion at the hitch on such vehicles. For your question regarding the hitch adapter; I have confirmed with Hollywood Racks that the Replacement Hitch Adapter Sleeve # HRREDADA will work for your rack. I have attached a demonstration...

  • Comparing Swagman XTC-2 and Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Bike Racks for Honda Pilot
The Swagman XTC-2 2-Bike Platform Rack # S64670 and the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider # HR200Z referenced in your question are both great, platform style racks that can transport up to 2 bikes. I recommend going with the Hollywood Racks # HR200Z for a few reasons. First, the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider features a higher weight capacity of 45 pounds per bike, as compared to 35 pounds on the Swagman carrier. This will allow for a bit more versatility in terms of the type of bikes that...

  • Platform Bike Rack Recommendation that Can be Used at Rear of Motorhome
The ride at the rear of a motorhome is much rougher than the ride at the rear of a regular passenger vehicle due to the increased length between the rear axle of the vehicle and the rear of the vehicle. This added length exaggerates bumps which puts more strain on bike racks so you have to use a bike rack that was designed to be more reinforced than the Convoy. So while the Rola Convoy # 59803 is not rated for use at the rear of a motorhome we do have the very similar Hollywood Rack...

  • Will Hollywood Racks Trail Rider HR200 Carry Womens Electra Townie
The hooks of the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider part # HR200Z that you referenced can slide down pretty low so it would be able to carry your women's Electra Townie which has a very low top frame tube.

  • Does Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Include Anti Rattle Hitch Pin
The anti-rattle hitch pin is included with the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider part # HR200Z that you referenced. If you wanted to lock the rack to your hitch and then lock your bikes to the rack you would want the part # HRLHPTC which is a hitch pin lock and cable lock.

  • Most Stable Platform Bike Rack that is Budget Friendly
Acutally I have a third option that in my opinion is the clear winner. The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider part # HR200Z is economically priced and is rock solid in the hitch it's installed in when travelling on the highway. It's very similar in setup as the Swagman racks you mentioned too. Check out the test course videos I attached for all three racks and you'll see that the Trail Rider is the most stable.

  • Comparing The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider To the SportRack 2 Bike Rack
The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2-Bike Rack - 1-1/4", 2" Hitch - Platform Style - Frame Mount # HR200Z has an anti-wobble hitch and shank rise of 5 inches. It has a weight capacity of 45 lbs per bike. The distance between the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the wheel hoop is 12-1/2 inches. It has a maximum wheel base of 60 inches. For this rack, I recommend the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable Lock for Hollywood Racks Commuter, Traveler, Sport Rider Bike Racks #...

  • Recommendation and Description of Hollywood Rack HR200 From Person Who Has Used the Rack
Actually my boss here at etrailer has used the Hollywood Rack part # HR200Z and he really likes it. For the money you really can't beat it. It is built like a tank and is easy to use. The only downside to it's sturdiness is that it is a bit on the heavier side at 39 lbs. He described this rack basically as a workhorse that just gets the job done. It may not be the flashiest rack on the market but it does it's job very well. I attached a review video and a test drive video for this rack...

  • Using Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2 Bike Platform Rack with Day 6 Semi-Recumbent Bike
The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2 Bike Platform Rack # HR200Z will work with your Day 6 model semi-recumbent bike but you will need to add an adapter bar like the Kuat # UB01. This will attach to the bike's seat post and handlebar stem post to provide a horizontal connection point for the hooks on the Trail Rider. The step-thru frames on the Day 6 are a bit too pronounced for the mounting hooks on this rack to attach without the use of the adapter. I have attached a short video demonstration...

  • Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for Beach Cruiser Bike and Boys Mountain Bike
I recommend the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2-Bike Rack # HR200Z. This platform bike rack will secure your bikes by the wheels and frame. The wheel holders will adjust to fit bikes of different wheel sizes and wheelbases, and will hold bikes with wheelbases up to 60 inches and tires no wider than 3 inches. Exceeding similar bike racks, this rack has a weight capacity of 45 pounds per bike. The anti-rattle hitch bolt will reduce movement of the rack in the hitch receiver. When storing the...

  • Would Hollywood Racks Trail HR200 Allow Rear Hatch on 2016 Kia Soul to Open
I looked up picture of the rear of your 2016 Kia Soul and the hatch sits a decent distance higher than the hitch opening so the Hollywood Racks Bike Rack # HR200Z would pretty easily allow the hatch to open with the mast folded down. The rack has a 5 inch rise in the shank.

  • Recommended Hitch Mounted Tandem Bike Rack For T900 Trek Bike
For your Trek T900 tandem bike, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2-Bike Rack - 1-1/4", 2" Hitch - Platform Style - Frame Mount # HR200Z. I confirmed that the adapter sleeve is aluminum, so you don't need another option. This rack will be compatible with you 2014 Chevy Silverado 2500 as well as your Toyota Rav4 with the 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver. This bike rack has an integrated cable lock and a locking anti-rattle hitch bolt so your bike and rack will be secure on either vehicle. I've...
