Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Hitch Bike Rack on Vehicle

The Trail Rider platform-style hitch bike rack makes it simple to carry 1 or 2 bicycles on the rear of your vehicle. This versatile rack is easy to use and it features locking frame hooks and adjustable wheel trays, so you can quickly load and unload your bikes. The included adapter sleeve enables the rack to fit both 1-1/4" and 2" hitch receivers. A locking, anti-rattle hitch pin tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the receiver.

Locking, Ratcheting Hooks

Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Ratcheting, Padded Wheel Hools

Constructed of rugged steel with a sleek black powder coat finish, the Trail Rider uses locking frame hooks to secure your bikes. The ratcheting hooks are easily adjusted along the vertical mast and lock securely in place. The push buttons allow the hooks to slide up the ratcheting system to allow for bike removal. The lock cores keep the hooks from being moved up or down on the mast to deter theft. The hooks are different sizes and each one functions independently, meaning the rack can carry 2 bikes of the same or different heights.

Adjustable Wheel Holders

Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Adjustable Wheel Holders

The wheel holders accommodate bicycles with wheelbases up to 60", and you can adjust the wheel hoops by sliding them along the horizontal arms. They are secured in place with hand knobs. Velcro-like hook-and-loop straps secure your bike's wheels to the holders.

Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Adjustable Wheel Holders

If you want to carry a fat bike on the Trail Rider, you can replace the rack's wheel trays with specifically-designed fat bike cradles (HRSPRWH-F-HD - sold separately).

Folding Design

Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Folded Up on Vehicle

The Sport Rider's folding design makes it easy to store your bike rack. Simply fold up the arms for compact storage.

Easy Installation with Locking Hitch Pin

The Trail Rider easily installs in your hitch with the included locking hitch pin. Just slide the shank into your receiver, insert the hitch pin, and then tighten it down with the included tool. The pin also works as an anti-wobble device to eliminate sway and rattle in the receiver. The frame hook locks and the hitch lock are conveniently keyed alike.

Hollywood Racks adapter sleeve

A removable adapter sleeve is included so the rack can be converted for use with 1-1/4" hitch receivers. The sleeve attaches to the shank with a single screw and can be installed or removed quickly.

Add-On Adapters

 Hollywood Racks Wheel Hoop Adapters

If you want to use the rack to transport a kid's bike with 16" or 18" wheels, wheel hoop adapters (HRSW-ADP-2 - sold separately) are available.

If you want to transport 1 recumbent delta trike or 1 recumbent tadpole-style trike with the Trail Rider, you can use the HRTRK-ADP adapter (sold separately).

Video Transcript for Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2 Bike Platform Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Platform Style 2 bike rack. The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider is a premium bike rack. It has everything you need to safely transport your two bikes with some added security. It holds bikes by their frame, which means it's going to work with a wide variety of bikes. We've got a mountain bike here, a road bike, but it's also going work with women's and children's bikes and bikes with alternative frame styles. Here at the bottom, the cradles hold their bikes by their tires. Both the frame hook and the cradles work together in supporting our bike. The frame hook puts down pressure on our bike into the cradles holding it in place. Here's a side shot of the cradles between the two bikes.

You can see how they're separated and how they're also going to minimize bike to bike contact. We go ahead and remove the bikes so we can take a closer look. The frame hooks themselves are padded. This is going to prevent any harm or scratches to our bike's frame. Now they're also adjustable along the center mast. This is what's going to allow it to work with those many different frame styles. To raise it up, you'll simply just press in on the button.

When you've got your bike in place, you just push down over your bike's frame, and then it's nice and secure. Now what's nice about this is it's lockable. This is where the added security comes in. This is going to prevent anyone from removing our bike from our bike rack.Once you've got it down over your bike, it includes two keys. You lock it up, remove it, and then no one can push in on the button. Raise it up to remove your bike. Here at the bottom, the wheel cradles are adjustable along the platform.

This is so we can use bikes with different size wheel bases. An example would be kid's bikes versus adult size bikes. Once we got it in place, you tighten it down with the large knob, and then we run that hook and loop strap over our wheel to secure it.The wheel cradles will work with tires up to three inches wide. They are adjustable along the platform for bikes with different size wheel bases. So that'd be like your children's bikes versus adult size bikes.Once you've got it in place, you just tighten it up, and then you can secure your wheel with the hook and loop strap. If you have a fat bike and you already own the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider, you can pick up the fat bike adapter kit with part number HRSPRWH-F-HD.

Though it doesn't tilt away with bikes loaded like some platform racks, the center mast does tilt backward with the puller pin, so we can gain access to our rear hatch. The advantage to this is we don't have to remove the whole bike rack to load and unload our gear. The other advantage is even if we could tilt it away with bikes loaded, we'd have to worry about tilting it back up in place again, which can be very strenuous and heavy. The disadvantage is you have to remove the bikes so you can access your rear hatch, and you have limited clearance to load and unload your gear. To me, this is a minor disadvantage. Most of the time my bikes are already off the bike rack. Then I open up my rear hatch to remove my helmet, shoes, and any other gear I need for the trails. The Trail Rider features a shank rise of five inches. Not only is this going to give us better ground clearance here at the rear, but it's also going to give us a higher loading height for us when we're putting our bikes in place. It includes an anti-rattle bolt and lock. The nice thing about the anti-rattle bolt, it's going to help reduce all that play within our hitch receiver and our bike rack to make a nice solid ride for our bikes. You can see here I'm shaking the bike rack and the entire vehicle. Now the nice thing about the lock is no one's going to be able to remove our bike rack from our hitch. The lock itself is keyed alike to our frame hooks. And two keys are included. When the Trail Rider is not in use, the cradle platforms fold up. You'll simply remove that pin, rotate it upward, and reinsert the pin.Now this is the stowed position. As you can see it makes it more compact. This is going to make it easier to store in your garage. But you can also keep it this way on your vehicle while you're driving around town. You'll notice that the pins themselves don't use any clips to prevent them from coming out. They actually have a raised tab that locks them into place. What you'll do is you'll line it up with the notch on the bike rack. And as we turn it, you can see we cannot get it back out until it's realigned. Now we'll give you some clearance dimensions to give you an idea of where this is going to sit on the back of your vehicle. This distance from the center of the inaudible 00:04:55 hole to the closest part of the rack is about 13 inches. The distance from the center of the inaudible 00:04:59 hole to the end of the rack is about 30 inches. For those of you who like to take your bikes on long vacations, the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider is motor home approved.Let's go ahead and take it on our test course and see how it performs. Here on our test course, let's first go into our inaudible 00:05:14. This is going to show side to side action, such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This is going to show a twisting action, such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. And then finally onto our solid speed bumps. This is going to show an up and down action, such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking garage. The Trail Rider has a weight capacity of 45 pounds per bike. And like all Hollywood racks it's made out of a durable steel construction with a standard black powder coat finish. This is going to make it rust and corrosion resistant. Now that we've done all the features I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. Now it's important to note that you do need a hitch receiver to work with this bike rack. The nice thing is it can either be an inch-and-a quarter or a two-inch receiver. That's class one or class two.You can see here how it has an adapter sleeve that goes over the shank that allows it to work with that two-inch receiver. That can simply be removed with the included tools, and then you've got it to work with your inch-and-a-quarter receiver. We'll go ahead and load it into our hitch receiver and line up our pinholes. Once the pinholes are aligned, we can take our included anti-rattle bolt and start threading that through here on the passenger side. Once we get that hand tightened we can tighten it the rest of the way down. Now it uses a 3/4 inch wrench or socket. And you'll have to provide your own tools. Get that nice and secure. Give it a good shake. Make sure there's no rattle. And then we can put our lock on the other side. It simply just clips in place. When it comes to loading for bikes it's just as easy. We'll want to drop down our trays. So we'll remove the pin and reinsert it in the other hole. With the trays down let's undo our wheel straps. Now the one thing that's unique to this bike rack is the center mast. We know that it folds backwards. We can use this to our advantage when loading up our first bike. So we'll pull that pin, lower it back. We'll grab that first bike and set it in place. You can see how this makes it a lot easier, rather than having to lift our bike up over that center mast. Once it's in place, we can raise it back up, replace that pin, and then lower down our frame hook. Then we can run our wheel straps. From there we'll just load up our second bike. With everything loaded up, let's go ahead and lock it.And that's going to complete our look at the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Platform Style 2 bike rack.

Arrived very quickly, looks great and exactly what we need to transport two bikes when we go camping EXCEPT that we ordered this to use on a receiver hitch on a towed vehicle, but when we opened the box and read all the instructions, they very specifically said NOT to use in that manner due to subtle swaying of towed vehicle causes metal fatigue and eventual failure of the product so we've order a dual receiver hitch adapter so we'll be able to load the bikes between the RV and the towed vehicle. Hopefully, it will get here as quickly so we can use it this week-end!! 5 stars because of customer service; everyone was very helpful and informative. 736417

Don't know what this product is like because I haven't even had a chance to get it out of the cargo box and try it yet before you started hounding me about a review. I just got it yesterday afternoon. And besides, I'm not going to use it for a while but I'm assuming that it will satisfy my needs to transport 2 bicycles safely and securely. By watching your video, I saw what I needed and it appeared that it is a good product. Therefore I don't have a rating yet?!! Nor will I for some time. Thanks. 727150

Even though I’ve done a lot of biking, I have never had a bike rack before. I wanted a sturdy, functional rack that would last me for years. This is a nice rack; well made, heavy duty and I especially like the built in locks for attaching the rack to the car and for keep the bikes locked in place. Thanks for a great product! 723366

I am so happy with this bike rack! I had originally ordered a Swagman model for my Mazda 3 Hatchback, but Michelle S. contacted me when it wasn't immediately available. She recommended this brand. I love it! It was easy to assemble and the bikes are so secure. I love that it locks to my car, and that the hooks lock with the same key. The velcro straps for the tires are an added bonus. Very easy to use. The bikes hardly moved at all during our 3 hour drive this past weekend. My boyfriend and I have polar opposite sized bikes, and it was not a problem at all. They don't touch, and are very secure with this rack. It was a relief to travel and not have to worry about the bikes damaging each other or our vehicle. I am so thrilled with this product! I can't recommend it highly enough! 693997

Ordering from etrailer was a very good, professional experience; the rack was delivered in 2 business days, well packed and without any shipping damage. etrailer gets 5 stars! Regarding the product....The Hollywood HR200Z rack is easy to assemble with the provided parts and tools. Pros: 5" rise of the main receiver bar tube provides good ground clearance, the 3" inside-width wheel holder hoops accommodate broad range of bike tire widths, overall construction and fit is very good, the main tube fits into class I, II, III hitches, includes an adapter sleeve so it can fit into 2" hitch. The horizontal tubes can fold up 90 degrees, to reduce the rack's storage footprint. Cons: I am concerned that the frame hook ratcheting mechanism may not be reliable, due to somewhat delicate parts & construction used for the mechanism. In fact, one of the ratchets that came with my rack was not usable because the springs don't stay in their designed position, and end up blocking the ratchet release rocker button from moving enough to release the ratchet so it can move. (In actual use, that results in not being able to get your bike off the rack, because you can't move the hook.) Hollywood was very responsive and has offered to replace the ratchet hook part asap. That is greatly appreciated! (But I might end up using simpler hand knob clamp frame hooks.) 718263

La entrega fue a tiempo, el ensamble fue fasil, los materiales se miran de buena calidad, me gusta y si hubiera algo que mejorar solamente seria que cuando no se usa se doblara hacia el carro. Translation: The delivery was on time, the assembly was facile, the materials look good quality, I like it and if there was something to improve it would only be that when it is not used it will bend towards the car. 605433

Great product. Arrived earlier than scheduled. The packaging was great. Directions were clear and accurate. Assembly was a breeze. My only caveat is that it comes with a threaded pin for the hitch an it’s smaller diameter than my hitch pin. [A standard pin would be easier]. 667244

Assembles without too much difficulty. Use metric wrenches. Velcro straps are too short to use with wide tires. When installing the wheel carriers, have rubber mallet handy and put small amount of anti seize lubricant on threads of the knobs that tighten wheel carrier to unit's frame. I used anti seize on any bolt or screw I installed. 765054

Easy to install. However, I did not realize the bike rack connected to the hitch via a long, threaded bolt. So, my bike rack will stay on or off for awhile. It isn't a quick switch to take the rack on and off. On the plus side, it seems to create a solid connection. 720438

Installation was easy. No problems. fits my 2010 Camaro nicely. Will need to pad the pedal closest to car to protect the car finish. Will post again when I get to use is as weather is getting crappy already. 718783

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for Securing E-Bike with Step Through Frame and Fenders
While the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider part # HR200Z is a great bike rack it's not the most ideal solution for your heavier e-bike that has a step through frame due to it's lower weight capacity (e-bikes are heavy) and the frame clamps aren't the best suited for the angled frame tube of your bike. Instead the best Hollywood Racks brand rack would be the RV Rider for E-Bikes part # HR1600 that has a frame clamp design that easily angles and secures well to the frame style you have and...

The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2-Bike Rack # HR200 weighs about 35 lbs. The Swagman XC 2-Bike Rack # S64650 is lighter at about 26 lbs. The biggest difference between the two is the Swagman rack is rated for 2 bikes at 35 lbs each and the Hollywood Trail Rider is rated for two bikes up to 45 lbs each. The Swagman rack will offer slightly less bumper clearance and the maximum wheel base is 8-1/2 inches shorter than the Hollywood Racks option. My recommendation between the two is...

  • Best 2-Bike Platform Bike Racks for 5th Wheel Trailer
The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2 # HR200Z can be used on any passenger vehicle and on a motorhome, but not on a travel trailer or 5th wheel. The reason why some bike racks should not be used on 5th wheels is that there is extra motion at the hitch on such vehicles. There is typically a much greater distance from the rear axle to the hitch on a 5th wheel trailer than on a passenger vehicle. This extra distance translates into more motion at the hitch as the trailer moves around on the...

This will attach to the bike's seat post and handlebar stem post to provide a horizontal connection point for the hooks on the Trail Rider. Its a bit more money, but the Saris Freedom SuperClamp part # SA4025 is incredibly stable. If you check out the test course video for this rack you can see that it's rock solid over bumps.

  • Hollywood HR200Z Bike Rack Compatibility with Spare Tire on 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser
The center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the wheel hoop on the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2-Bike # HR200Z is 12-1/8 inches. This will give you about 7 inches of clearance from the closest edge to the closest part of the wheel hoop or approximately 9 inches to the center of the wheel hoop. If your handlebars are longer than 9 inches from the center, then you may need to adjust the wheel hoop locations to accommodate your bike location around your spare tire. I recommend...

  • Comparing Hollywood Trail Rider or Swagman XTC Bike Rack for 2002 VW Golf
Of the two bike racks you referenced, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider # HR200Z over the Swagman XTC-2 # S64670 because the Trail Rider gives you more security and ground clearance than the XTC-2. The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider and Swagman XTC-2 are similar but the Trail Rider will secure both your bike and your daughter's bike with its locking ratcheting hooks; it also locks to your hitch which helps protect your investments. The XTC-2 can lock as well but you would need...

  • Recommended Hitch Mounted Tandem Bike Rack For T900 Trek Bike
For your Trek T900 tandem bike, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2-Bike Rack - 1-1/4", 2" Hitch - Platform Style - Frame Mount # HR200Z. I confirmed that the adapter sleeve is aluminum, so you don't need another option. This rack will be compatible with you 2014 Chevy Silverado 2500 as well as your Toyota Rav4 with the 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver. This bike rack has an integrated cable lock and a locking anti-rattle hitch bolt so your bike and rack will be secure on either vehicle. I've...

  • Best Way to Carry 2 Beach Cruisers with a 2011 Toyota Camry
We do have a few options that will allow you to carry your beach cruisers with your 2011 Toyota Camry. While it may be possible to carry your beach cruisers with a trunk mount bike rack, I strongly recommend using a hitch mounted bike rack like the Hollywood Racks Platform-Style Bike Rack, # HR200Z due to the weight of the bikes. Using a hitch mounted bike rack is the safest way to carry these bikes because the bikes and the bike rack will not contact your vehicle. The platform-style rack...

  • What is Shank Rise for Hollywood Rack Bike Rack # HR200
The Hollywood Rack Bike Rack part # HR200Z has a shank rise of 5 inches which means the curve you see in the shank (the portion that attaches to the trailer hitch and the rest of the rack), goes up a total of 5 inches for added ground clearance. See picture.

  • Platform Bike Rack Recommendation Approved for Use Behind an RV
I have a very similar solution I can provide, but the Hollywood Rack bike rack part # HR200Z is not rated for use behind an RV. Instead the Swagman part # S64663 has been reinforced for the rougher ride quality at the rear of a trailer or RV so it would be a great option for you to consider. I attached a review video for you to check out as well.

  • Using Yakima StickUp 2 Bike Rack Part on 2003 Honda CR-V
Yakima strongly states not to use the StickUp Bike Carrier with a hitch extender. Although this rack is not terribly heavy, a hitch extender would place it far enough away from the receiver that the leverage applied could damage the bike carrier or the receiver. You could most likely use the rack itself without an extender, but your spare tire would prevent you from folding the carrier. I would recommend going with a bike rack with a longer shank on it that would clear your spare tire....

  • Does Hollywood Trailer Rider Bike Rack on 2015 Honda CR-V Need Additional Stabilization
If you have the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13119 on your 2015 CR-V and are using the anti-rattle bolt of your Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2 Bike Platform Rack # HR200Z as well as the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050, additional stabilization will not be needed. Since you already have a pair of stabilization devices I recommend first taking your bike rack - with bikes loaded - out on the road for a test with the anti-rattle bolt engaged and stabilizing strap on to see how it works...

  • Hollywood Racks Trail Rider HR200Z Moves While Driving When Using the Anti-Rattle Bolt
If you are tightening down the anti-rattle bolt on the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2 # HR200Z that you mention, then the only time you should really see any play is when making evasive maneuvers or hitting bumps like in the test course video. After threading in the anti-rattle bolt by hand, you will want to use a 3/4 inch wrench to tighten the bolt down the rest of the way. If you are only tightening it down by hand then it will not be as effective and would be the reason why you are...

  • Hollywood Racks TrailRider Bike Rack Recommendation for Winnebago View G Motorhome
The Hollywood Racks TrailRider part # HR200Z that you referenced is a great choice for you. It is confirmed to work at the back of motorhomes like your Winnebago View G and in it's price range it's hands-down the most stable and solidly built bike rack available. Check out the test course video I attached to see how stable it is.

  • Most Stable Platform Bike Rack that is Budget Friendly
Acutally I have a third option that in my opinion is the clear winner. The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider part # HR200Z is economically priced and is rock solid in the hitch it's installed in when travelling on the highway. It's very similar in setup as the Swagman racks you mentioned too. Check out the test course videos I attached for all three racks and you'll see that the Trail Rider is the most stable.

  • Does Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Include Anti Rattle Hitch Pin
The anti-rattle hitch pin is included with the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider part # HR200Z that you referenced. If you wanted to lock the rack to your hitch and then lock your bikes to the rack you would want the part # HRLHPTC which is a hitch pin lock and cable lock.

  • Stable 2-Bike Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for Class I 1-1/4 inch Hitch
For a economically priced 2 bike rack that is very sturdy the Hollywood Racks # HR200Z would be a great option. Unlike most lower costing bike racks this one is incredibly stable when travelling. If you check out the test course video I attached you can see just how solid this rack is when travelling. It's also compatible with Class I 1-1/4 inch hitches as well.

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 2012 Infiniti G37
A hitch bike rack is a great option to carry up to 2 bikes on your 2012 Infiniti G37. One of my favorite hitch mount bike racks and the one that I recommend for you is the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2-Bike Rack # HR200Z. The Trail Rider can carry 2 bikes with maximum wheel bases of 60 inches, tires up to 3 inches, and up to 45 pounds per bike. This hitch mount platform bike rack will fit both 1-1/4 inch, Class I and Class II hitches, as well as 2 inch trailer hitches. To help the bike...

  • Platform Bike Rack Recommendation that Can be Used at Rear of Motorhome
The ride at the rear of a motorhome is much rougher than the ride at the rear of a regular passenger vehicle due to the increased length between the rear axle of the vehicle and the rear of the vehicle. This added length exaggerates bumps which puts more strain on bike racks so you have to use a bike rack that was designed to be more reinforced than the Convoy. So while the Rola Convoy # 59803 is not rated for use at the rear of a motorhome we do have the very similar Hollywood Rack...
