Ratcheting Wheel Hooks

Saris SuperClamp EX ratcheting wheel hooks

The SuperClamp EX has padded, ratcheting hooks that secure your bikes by the wheels - not by the frame. This prevents the rack from scratching and scuffing your bike's paint or damaging the frame, which makes the SuperClamp EX an excellent choice for transporting bikes with carbon fiber frames.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

The hooks adjust independently - just press the gray button and slide the hook up or down. This adjustability allows you to carry any combination of full-size adult bikes, women's bikes, children's bikes, and alternative-frame bikes.

Adjustable Wheel Trays

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

Injection-molded plastic wheel trays slide along the rack's horizontal arms to accommodate bikes with different wheelbases. These trays secure in place with twist knobs.

Saris SuperClamp EX folding masts at end of tray

Use the included ratcheting straps to secure your bike's rear wheel to the wheel tray.

Saris SuperClamp EX reflectors

If you want to carry a fat bike with tires wider then 4-1/2", you can replace the rack's wheel trays with fat bike cradles (SA4419 - sold separately).

Folding Masts at Ends of Base

Saris SuperClamp EX folding masts at end of tray

The masts are located at opposite ends of the base, making the SuperClamp EX easy to load and unload. Because these masts are at each end of the base, instead of in the middle like most platform racks, they won't interfere in any way with your bikes as you load or unload them. Instead, they simply fold out of the way, giving you a clear path to the wheel trays.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

These masts lock into the upright position for use, then fold down for storage and access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just press down on the gray button and rotate the mast to the desired position. The masts pivot on strong, case-hardened steel brackets that ensure long life and smooth operation.

Folding and Tilting Design

Saris SuperClamp EX folding and tiliting design

There is an integrated lever that lets you tilt the rack down with bikes loaded for access to your rear cargo area or fold the rack up against your vehicle for storage. And it means you can leave the rack in your hitch without it interfering with your cargo hatch or backup camera. The compact design lets you easily store the rack in your garage when it's not in use. There is also a built-in bottle opener over the lever.

Complete Security System

Saris SuperClamp EX cable locks

The SuperClamp EX includes locks to deter theft of your bikes and the rack. A braided, 10-mm stainless steel cable lock built into the base secures your bikes to the rack. The cable has a vinyl coating to prevent it from scratching your bikes. Simply thread the cable through the bike frames and attach it to the lock body at the other end of the base.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

When not in use, the lock stores inside the rack's arm. A push-button releases the lock, so it won't accidentally slide out and drag on the ground during transport.

Saris SuperClamp EX reflectors

The HitchTite lock fits over the end of your threaded hitch pin to secure the rack to your hitch. The threaded hitch pin serves as an anti-rattle device to minimize movement and noise in the hitch.

Saris SuperClamp EX lock

Both locks have push-to-lock bodies that make them easy to secure and help to prevent accidental locking. Integrated dust caps keep the lock cores clean and dry. And the locks are keyed alike, so you can use the same key for both locks.

Saris SuperClamp EX lock

The included adapter sleeve ensures the SuperClamp EX will fit both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches.

Great product well built. A little heavy to move around.

by:

Easiest bike rack I’ve ever assembled and I’ve had MANY. Being made in the US was a huge selling point for me. Highly recommend, so done with the other big brands.

by:

Easy to use! Keeps bikes safe!

by:

This is a great bike rack for those who need room for 4 bikes but don't want to stick 10 feet out the back. Really easy assembly, excellent operation, and seamless (and quick!) free delivery. Great experience.

by:

Great product. Expensive but well worth the cost. My only complaint would be that it's heavy to fold. Otherwise, I would highly recommend it.

by:

It was easy to put together! I've mounted 4 different bikes of all sizes and they fit great. I have not had the chance to drive long distances yet, but everything seems perfect at this point!

by:

Excellent product! It is easy to install and easy to secure your bicycles. I couldn't ask for a better product. The only thing was that the securing cables were jammed, but I could loosen them. Now, my and I can enjoy every weekend together and ride our bikes!

by:

This is a beefy platform rack. Assembly is easy and the directions are clear and simple. It is a heavy rack but that is expected for a 4 bike setup. The tilt and fold is easy to use.

by:

Rack is very well made. The tilt is very helpful for access to the back of your vehicle. I use an additional stabilizer around my hitch. Just be warned - it is heavy

by:

Delivered as expected with no visible damage to the bike carrier.

We were already aware of this Saris carrier as my wife got a new E-bike. etrailer was $[XX] less than the bike shop. It arrived and within 45 minutes we were on the road going to pick up the new bike. Easy assembly. Taking it out on a long trip tomorrow. Looks like a solid investment.

by:

Unusually heavy, but super sturdy. The built in bike lock is game changing, gives some peace of mind when making unexpected stops. Bikes go on easy and come off easy. The only downside is that lifting the rack down and back up with bikes loaded is heavy, a spring aided system would have been nice to have.

by:

Glad to give 5 Stars, however, do have one issue. The fasteners for the tires have a plastic top with a bolt that goes to a nut. Have lost two nuts as they have vibrated off. Shoukd consider gluing the bolts to the underside sleeve so they cannot vibrate and fall off. If you have two of those bolts you could send a brother, that would be awesome.

by:

Great rack: This holds the bikes more securely than any other rack out there. Light weight, and folds up small. 4 bikes seem to fit better on this rack, compared to Thule or kuat - with minimal interference. Only issue seems to be that the plastic wheel trays break easily. Keep their bolts tight.

by:

This bike rack is a tremendous value. Cheaper and just as good as comparable racks that cost twice as much. The rack has performed superbly. One caution: the manufacturer’s packaging is poorly designed, and insufficient to safely ship a 60+ pound bike rack. The steel parts of the rack shifted during transit and broke several molded plastic components. Saris’ customer service folks were excellent, and promptly sent replacements for the components that were broken in transit. The improper packaging was not etrailer’s fault. Saris should reengineer their packaging for this item.

by:

I throughly researched platform bike racks on etrailer.com. I thought I wanted a 4 bike rack that could be reduced to a 2 bike, bike rack. I ended up purchasing a Saris Freedom Superclamp EX 4 rack. This rack doesn't transition to a 2 person but it's so compact that when it's folded up I can't see it through my rearview window. It assembles easy and is very sturdy and easy to use. I never give anything 5 stars but I'm pleased as punch with this bike rack.

A shoutout to etrailer - What a great website, everything you need to evaluate any rack is on this website. WELL DONE...

by:

This is a very solid setup. I've taken it on two local trips and one longer 4 hour trip including highways, narrow curvy mountain roads and so on. Never did the setup wobble. Also a comment about the legendary Saris warranty. One of the arms had a ratchet mechanism that wasn't working. I contacted Saris and within a week they shipped out a replacement.

The swing down mechanism works well, but I would make sure to have a second set of hands available if you are planning to lower it out of the way with bikes already loaded. Without bikes loaded it is a snap.

At the end of the day the best review is that my dear wife provided. "I am so happy you won't complain about taking the bikes to the beach now!". It really is so much easier than roof carrying bikes. Honestly in 15 minutes I can have the rack mounted and all four bikes loaded and secured which is so much easier and faster than roof carrying.

by:

This is great bike rack. It arrived fast and just in time for our trip in mid July. My husband and I put it together quickly, we looked at a [online] video for how to put it together and went by the instructions booklets. It took us under an hour to put it together. It is very simple to load and unload bikes on it and the bikes stayed stable throughout our 600 mile trip and back. So overall, I am very satisfied with this bike rack. Will now see how it holds up with time.

by:

Great bike rack, easy to install and remove, fits normal bikes and unusual shapes (2-wheel recumbent).

by:

Thanks to etrailer’s excellent information, I managed to find a bike rack that would carry 2 e-bikes and work with my existing class I 1-1/4 in receiver. I had the added challenge that I carry the bikes on a car that I tow behind my RV, so it needed to be rated for a tow vehicle. The Saris Superclamp EX met all my criteria, and for a reasonable price. I was also happy to find that it’s made in the USA. Install was fairly easy, couple of minor hiccup’s as I figured out the drawings, which, to be honest, weren’t entirely clear. But it’s pretty intuitive, so just added an extra minute or two, and probably wouldn’t phase the more mechanically minded. I’m a somewhat out of shape 50’s female, and I don’t have any trouble moving the rack around, it’s a nice weight and fairly compact when collapsed. It’s very easy to access the hatch when the bikes are not mounted. Haven’t tried it with bikes on yet. Once installed, it is rock solid. Loading my 45ish lb bike (with battery removed) is doable. In a perfect world it would have a ramp, but given my other criteria were met, I’m happy to do without the ramp. The rack seems like it holds the bike firmly during transport so overall, I’m extremely happy with my purchase. Also, there wasn’t a ton of unnecessary packaging to get rid of, but things were well protected in shipment. Customer service from etrailer is stellar as well, they helped quickly with a minor issue. Happy customer here!

Its been a year, and the bike rack is still going strong. I find myself using the trunk storage in my CRV more often because this rack is so easy to tilt back in both when loaded and unloaded. I have had no problems with the RV towing the car with the bike loaded, everything seems solid. I am still very happy with this purchase and again, thanks to the etrailer crew for their excellent online guidance.

I can't say enough good things about this bike rack.I was going to go with a cheaper model but I'm glad I spent the extra money for this Saris. The rack installs and comes off the hitch quickly. The bikes also are easy to load and unload. This thing is great. The first one got ruined by the carrier and etrailer sent me out a new one immediately.Top notch service.

  • Which Bike Rack is More Stable Thule T2 XTB or Saris SuperClamp EX
I attached test course videos down below that show the Saris SuperClamp EX 2 Bike Platform Rack # SA4025F and the Thule T2 Pro XTB 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH9034XT both being driven on our test course. It appears the T2 is noticeably more stable. It is considerable heavier at 52 lbs compared to the 35 lbs of the Saris so that might be how it's able to be more stable. Both are amoung the nicest racks money can buy though so you can't go wrong with either.

I recommend a 2 inch trailer hitch for your 2019 Subaru Impreza, the EcoHitch Trailer Hitch # 306-X7350 because a 2 inch receiver is going to give you many more options for a higher quality bike rack (and other accessories if you decide to use them). • Why Cant The Saris SuperClamp Be Used On The Rear Of A Motorhome?
The reason the Saris SuperClamp EX Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # SA4025F is not compatible with motorhomes despite having a 2" hitch, is because the rear of motorhomes are very rough compared to the ride quality at the rear of a passenger vehicle and the bike is not rated for those forces. This is due to the suspension not being as sophisticated and there is a longer distance between the rear axle and the rear of the trailer which exaggerates the movement of the trailer. Instead of the Saris...

This rack also only touches bikes at the tire so it protects any damage to delicate frame materials or finishes like your carbon fiber frame bike. A platform bike rack that has folding masts like the Saris SuperClamp part # SA4025F would be a great choice. When you aren't carrying any bikes the rack would fold down far enough that your rear camera would be unobstructed.
