Saris SuperClamp EX

The SuperClamp EX lets you rapidly load and safely transport 2 bikes on your vehicle's 1-1/4" or 2" hitch. This rack has front- and rear-wheel hooks to safely transport your bikes without making frame contact. The lightweight, compact design with a platform-style setup allows for rapid bike loading and unloading. Just set your bikes in the wheel trays, ratchet down the wheel hooks, and secure your bikes with the integrated cable lock.

Ratcheting Wheel Hooks

Saris SuperClamp EX ratcheting wheel hooks

It has padded, ratcheting hooks that secure your bikes by the wheels - not by the frame. This prevents the rack from scratching and scuffing your bike's paint or damaging the frame, which makes the SuperClamp EX an excellent choice for transporting bikes with carbon fiber frames.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

The hooks adjust independently - just press the gray button and slide the hook up or down. This adjustability allows you to carry any combination of full-size adult bikes, women's bikes, children's bikes, and alternative-frame bikes.

Adjustable Wheel Trays

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

Injection-molded plastic wheel trays slide along the rack's horizontal arms to accommodate bikes with different wheelbases. These trays secure in place with twist knobs.

Saris SuperClamp EX folding masts at end of tray

Use the included ratcheting straps to secure your bike's rear wheel to the wheel tray.

Saris SuperClamp EX reflectors

There are built-in reflectors on the outside wheel trays that increase visibilty for both daytime and nighttime travel.

If you want to carry a fat bike with tires wider then 4-1/2", you can replace the rack's wheel trays with fat bike cradles (SA4419 - sold separately).

Folding Masts at Ends of Base

Saris SuperClamp EX folding masts at end of tray

The masts are located at opposite ends of the base, making the SuperClamp EX extremely easy to load and unload. Because these masts are at each end of the base, instead of in the middle like most platform racks, they won't interfere in any way with your bikes as you load or unload them. Instead, they simply fold out of the way, giving you a clear path to the wheel trays.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

These masts lock into the upright position for use, then fold down for storage and access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just press down on the gray button and rotate the mast to the desired position. The masts pivot on strong, case-hardened steel brackets that ensure long life and smooth operation.

Folding and Tilting Design

Saris SuperClamp EX folding and tiliting design

There is an integrated lever that lets you tilt the rack down with bikes loaded for access to your rear cargo area or fold the rack up against your vehicle for storage. And it means you can leave the rack in your hitch without it interfering with your cargo hatch or backup camera. The compact design lets you easily store the rack in your garage when it's not in use. There is also a built-in bottle opener over the lever.

Complete Security System

Saris SuperClamp EX cable locks

The SuperClamp EX includes locks to deter theft of your bikes and the rack. A braided, 10-mm stainless steel cable lock built into the base secures your bikes to the rack. The cable has a vinyl coating to prevent it from scratching your bikes. Simply thread the cable through the bike frames and attach it to the lock body at the other end of the base.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

When not in use, the lock stores inside the rack's arm. A push-button releases the lock, so it won't accidentally slide out and drag on the ground during transport.

Saris SuperClamp EX reflectors

The HitchTite lock fits over the end of your threaded hitch pin to secure the rack to your hitch. The threaded hitch pin serves as an anti-rattle device to minimize movement and noise in the hitch.

Saris SuperClamp EX lock

Both locks have push-to-lock bodies that make them easy to secure and help to prevent accidental locking. Integrated dust caps keep the lock cores clean and dry. And the locks are keyed alike, so you can use the same key for both locks.

Saris SuperClamp EX lock

The included adapter sleeve ensures the SuperClamp EX will fit both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches.

Video Transcript for Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX 2 Bike Rack Review

Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack, part number: SA4025F. This lightweight, platform-style bike rack holds two bikes by their wheels; there is no frame contact. The rack has the ability to tilt away with bikes loaded so we can gain access to our rear hatch. We'll pull out on the black lever here, tilt it away. As you can see, plenty of room to remove any cargo, gear, groceries; anything we might have with us on our trip. It features two integrated cable locks so we can secure our bikes.

It also features an anti-rattle hitch lock, which is gonna prevent anyone from removing our bike rack from our vehicle. I've gone ahead and removed one of the bikes so we can go over some additional features. The wheel cradles will accommodate road bike tires, mountain bike tires, and fat tires up to 4-1/2" wide. The wheel cradles are adjustable along the platform to fit wheel bases up to 48" long. The ratcheting hooks firmly grip your bike by its tires, and because they're adjustable, they're gonna work with a wide variety of bikes; fat bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, women's and children's bikes. With our bikes removed, as you can see, our arms are adjustable as well to work with a wide variety of bikes.

When not in use, the arms fold flat and then the whole thing tilts up towards our vehicle for compact storage. This would be ideal for pulling in your garage or in a tight parking spot. Here at the rear you can see our wheel cradles have reflectors for increased visibility at night. It has a weight capacity of 60 pounds per bike and it features a limited lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. Now this can either be used for 1-1/4" or 2" hitches.

We've got our include sleeve installed on our shank for our 2" receiver. Let's go ahead and put it into our receiver tube. So we'll feed it in and we'll line up our pin holes. Once we get those lined up, we can take our included anti-rattle bolt and thread that through here on the driver's side. We get it hand tightened, we can take a 3/4" wrench, and you will have to provide your own, and tighten that down the rest of the way.

Here on the other side, we'll take our included lock and then just push that on until it snaps in place. As you can see, with our anti-rattle bolt installed, we've reduced all the play within our receiver tube and our bike rack fits nice and solid. Now, in preparation for loading up our bikes, we'll need to tilt out our platform. Make our way to the lever back here, we're gonna pull up on it, tilt it out until it snaps into place. Now we can fold out and raise up our wheel hooks. To do that we're gonna push in the gray button at the top here, fold it all the way out, and then raise up the hooks with the button at the end here. We'll also want to undo our straps. You can press another button there, guide the strap out. Now, it's recommended you load the heaviest bike first. For us it's gonna be our fat bike. We'll set the tires in place within the wheel cradles. Let's go ahead and secure our wheels. So we'll take our wheel hooks, we're gonna come up to about this position here, and then push down. With our other hook we'll do just the same. We'll come up to the 10 o'clock position and then push down. Now we can secure our straps. Go between our spokes and run it through our ratchet on the other side. I've gone ahead and loaded up the second bike the exact same way. You'll just want to be sure and alternate the handle bars. Now let's run our cable locks. We'll locate the cable lock here at the end of the bike rack, we'll push down on the gray button here, and then pull it out. I'm just gonna go through my wheel, over my frame, and then connect it to the center here. With both of my cables run, let's grab our key; we can make sure it's unlocked, push them in place, and then lock it back up. Now we're all set to take it out on our test course and see how it performs. Here on our test course, let's first go into our slalom. This is gonna show side-to-side action, such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our solid speed bumps. This is gonna show and up and down action, such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking lot. And then finally, on to our alternating speed bumps. This is gonna show a twisting action, such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. And that's gonna complete our look at the Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack, part number: SA4025F.

I've only used the rack once so far, but I really like it. I used it on a 29er carbon mountain bike. Part of the trip was on a dirt road and also on rough and curvy paved roads. There is some play to the rack (from the hinge point of the rack), but it was quiet, and I don't recall ever hearing it. Nor did it look at any time like my bike was getting shaken to death. To be clear, the attachment of the rack to the hitch is rock solid. One of the things I really like this rack, and why I chose it over others, is that the integrated bike lock is a pretty beefy cable, and more importantly, it allows me to lock up both wheels and the frame. Many of the integrated locks on other racks only lock up the frame or one wheel, maybe a frame and one wheel, but not all three. I haven't tested the locks trying to lock up the frame and both wheels on two bikes, but it definitely works for one bike. This rack doesn't fold up as flat as other racks that I've seen, but the security was more important to me. All in all, I'm really happy with the rack so far. It seems well made and everything moves and operates smoothly. 594678

After a year, I still really love this rack. Ive had my bike on it on some pretty rough roads and it worked great. Not too long ago I got rear ended by a semi not hard and the rack got bent up a bit. The guy who hit me ended up paying for a new rack, which gave me the opportunity to get something different but I replaced it with the same one. So yeah, Id buy it again.

Received the product in a week, really like how easy it was to put together. Dana was very pleasant and helped me through the order process. Couldn't be happier. 260153

Very easy to install. Great rack. Holds the bike very securely. Take the time to move the wheel trays around to get the perfect fit of both bikes. Took about 20 minutes, and it has been worry free ever since. The rack doesn't move while traveling down the road. Nice product. 163527

- SA4025F

Easy installation. Seemed like most of it was already assembled just coming out of the box. After installation I put my 29er and Trek road bike on it. Like others before me, it seemed that another 12-15" of length on the bike cable locks would be handy. Being able to lock the front and rear wheels in addition to the frame with the cable locks would make a great rack even better. I was very satisfied with the carrier construction quality and ease of operation. Liked being able to use two hooks for each bike. I would definitely recommend this rack. etrailer shipped very promptly as always and were very helpful with dimensional information regarding hitch set backs to make sure adequate clearance was available to fold various racks up when not transporting bikes. 517248

The only thing better than a Saris designed rack is purchasing it from Etrailer. Super fast delivery as well as a good price. This is the 4th Saris rack that I have owned. What I like about this rack is that, like the Thelma series, it holds the bike by the wheels instead of the frame. It can handle any size tire and any type of frame. The SuperClamp enables you to transport any bike that you have. 591609

- SA4025F

Purchased this because we needed a lighter weight platform type two-bike rack for our 2005 Prius which could work with a full shock women's bike (bike needs to be attached and secured to rack by tires, not frame). Instructions with the rack could be better in regards to assembly, but it isn't complicated looking at the photos and videos on etrailer.com helped a lot. This seems to be a good quality rack. Customer service helpful and responded quickly when I contacted them with questions regarding whether this rack was compatible with our 2005 Prius. 150318

still love it!

- SA4025F

I purchased this rack because It stated it would support the weight of my 2 electric bikes. The first trip with the rack installed on our motor home it failed after crossing a railroad crossing at 25 mph. The manufacturer told me to read the small print on the rack where it says not for use on any RV. They charged over a $100 for parts to repair it. Using the rack on my jeep or the motor home shouldn't matter. In my opinion the rack is under designed to carry the weight of the bikes as advertised. In good conscience I can not recommend this rack. 609812

The reason Saris does not recommend using this rack on a motorhome is the extended rear overhang distance between rear axle and rear bumper typically found on motorhomes. This subjects any hitch mounted accessory to greater jarring and bouncing that would be experienced if the rack were used on the rear of a regular passenger vehicle. This extra bouncing exerts forces on the rack that it wasnt designed to withstand. Remember riding in the back seat of the school bus when it went over a big bump when you were a kid? Same principle. We do show in the product description above that the rack is not recommended on motorhomes or towed trailers.

I am really happy with this Saris bike rack. I was looking to replace an older, very serviceable but heavy rack that took up too much space in my garage and didn't easily allow me to open my Forester's back hatch door. The Saris is lighter, more compact when folded, protective of my bikes, and very easily loaded and secured (with built-in locking cables). A quick release allows the rack and bikes to tilt away from the car to allow easy access to the hatch door. In addition, I always look first for American-made products. This rack, which turned out to be well designed and well built and just what I was looking for, is made in Madison, Wisconsin, and that makes this Wisconsinite and Badger alumnus very happy, indeed! Cheers! 617597

Excellent service, knowledgeable, polite and a sincere desire to help with the best choice for our needs. Couldn’t have asked for more, thank you. Our bike rack is easy load easy unload, super user friendly and the built in cable locks are brilliant! No hassles with a separate cable lock . It’s also light enough to manage without having to be a weightlifter! Doug. 497520

Best bike rack I've ever owned. Works perfect with our carbon fiber as the design of this rack is 100% touchless! Secure and sturdy. 396954

This is a review of the Saris SUPERCLAMP EX 2-BIKE but I have to tell a little story about how I came to purchase this item. First, I bought a Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch in March and a Kuat Sherpa 2.0 in early May. The Kuat was very sturdy and well designed. However, even when empty and folded up, it was too high for the rear hatch in my Porsche Macan to open without first bending the Sherpa down . So, I could never enter the rear of the SUV without always moving the rack. This was so annoying that I decided to change to a Saris SUPERCLAMP EX 2-BIKE, which had been my 2nd choice. I returned the Kuat, paying the shipping and a 20% restocking fee, and received and installed the Saris within 3 days. This was about a month ago. The service and support from etrailer.com on this change was fast, courteous and reasonable in price. The Saris is not as sturdy feeling as the Kuat and tips a little when tightening the wheel holders (i.e., pushing down on the wheel holders) due to the torque put on the hitch. But the Saris is plenty sturdy enough, and I have used it to transport my Cannondale Synapse on multiple trips in 1 month, all of duration 30-60 minutes. The Saris is easy to load and unload and keeps the bike very secure even at 70+ mph. And, the Saris folds up much more compactly to allow opening the Macan’s tailgate without first bending the rack down. This is a terrific advantage over the Kuat and makes me very happy that I made the change. I strongly recommend the Saris SUPERCLAMP EX 2-BIKE and etrailer.com, which provided excellent pricing, service and support on all 3 purchases. 541470

Product arrived in very good conditions. Well packed and simple to use. Sturdy but not too heavy. Waiting for warmer weather to start using it regularly. Happy with what I've seen so far. 603062

- SA4025F

Nice design and opperates as expected. Only reason i didnt give it a 5 star is the packaging and decals. There were a few bolts and the lock loose in the packaging which could have caused damage but luckily didn't. Also the decals on the cross bar had plenty of bubbles in them which doesnt look good. Maybe the assembler was having a bad day, but for the price i expected better. 642640

- SA4025F

I purchased this rack on the recommendation of a friend of mine who is an avid cyclist. He promised it would carry my new carbon fiber bike with great care. I picked the bike up at the bike store and drove home on the interstate (we do that in NJ) and the bike sat solidly in the rack. The rack was easy to install right out of the box. My only concern is that the retractable locking cables are a little short for easy and simple use. eTrailer delivered the product on time and communicated clearly what the schedule was - their price was in line with market. Very Good Experience. 278653

- SA4025F

Just what I needed. Bolts very tightly into my 1-1/4" hitch, so the bike doesn't bounce around at all on the road. Also like the two integrated locks--one for the hitch and one for the bikes--that use the same key. Wanted a no-frame-contact tray rack that would fold down small enough to fit in the trunk of my sedan, and the Freedom SuperClamp 2 does the job very well. 228090

- SA4025F

Love this bike rack! It is super simple to use and accommodates both mine and my husband's bike. I can easily install it by myself (I'm small, 5' 120lbs) and load the bikes on without any help. The bikes feel very sturdy. I like that I can still open the hatch (with the bikes off). Would highly recommend! 174935

- SA4025F

Super ieasy to use and nice quality. 153506

- SA4025F

This is the best bike rack I have found. It is made of steel and hardened plastic for the wheel wells. The hitch locks in and cannot be removed without a lot of effort. The wheel wells are adjustable so the tires from the bikes sit perfectly still and the arms lock the bikes in so they never move. It also has a security lock built into the chassis of the unit which slides back in both sides once removed if you have to park and leave the bikes. I am completely satisfied with this bike rack. 146234

I attached an install video that shows what the process for the install will entail which will be the exact same basically for your hybrid model. We haven't had a chance to install this hitch on a Hybrid version of your vehicle yet. The reason I recommended this hitch over the Curt # C11402 is because the Curt requires a stabilizer strap...

  • Bike Rack and Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback
The best option we have for carrying a bike rack on a 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback is a hitch mounted option. Hitches are the most secure, easiest to load, do not affect fuel mileage, don't touch any painted surfaces, easiest to lock bikes and racks to and are not the most expensive route (that's roof rack). Trunk racks aren't quite as secure and they touch the vehicle paint so they aren't my first pick. Plus there are no trunk fits for the hatchback 2018 Civics. So a hitch option like...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 2017 Ford Explorer
Hollywood Racks bike racks may not have the most modern of looks but they are solid racks that just get the job down well. For a vehicle that has a spoiler like your 2017 Ford Explorer you won't find a better trunk rack than the Hollywood Racks Over the Top part # HRF2. I attached a demo video for this rack on a similar 2015 Explorer as well. Other option is a hitch bike rack which opens up quite a few different sleek rack options. If you are in need of a hitch the Draw Tite part # 76034...

  • Best Hitch Bike Rack Recommendation for 2018 Toyota RAV4
For your 2018 Toyota RAV4 with a hitch installed like the etrailer.com hitch part # E98864 installed I really like the Saris Freedom Superclamp bike rack part # SA4025F. This is a lightweight platform bike rack that only touches the bike at the tires and only weighs 30 lbs. The biggest drawback to platform bike racks has always been the weight of them, but with this rack you get the best of both worlds. The preferred attachment style with the lighter weight. Platform bike racks are also...

  • Best Bike Rack for a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime with Class I Trailer Hitch
In order to use a hitch mounted bike rack with your 2017 Toyota Prius Prime you need a trailer hitch. For this I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24966. The Draw-Tite Sportframe is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. The only trailer hitch receivers they make for your Prius Prime are Class I. Therefore, you will need to use only Class I rated bike racks. In addition to the class rating you need to take into consideration the recessed receiver...

  • Is There a Fold Up Platform Rack Option with a Ramp for Loading Bikes?
That is a great idea and there is a market for it but we haven't won the manufacturers over with that option yet and we can't add anything to their products without a warranty issue. We haven't seen a ramp for the Saris SuperClamp EX 2 Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # SA4025F but there is another option with the fold up platform rack you may want to consider. The Access Ramp for Kuat NV 2.0 Bike Rack # ANVBRB is compatible with # NV12G, # BA12B, # NV12B, and...

  • Bike Rack Solution for 2015 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works Countryman to Transport 3 Bikes
We have great hitch options for your 2015 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works Countryman but since there are only Class I hitches available for your vehicle you'd be limited to carrying only two bikes in a hitch rack and have to carry the third bike on a roof rack. So for a hitch you'd want the EcoHitch part # 306-X7334 which is a confirmed fit. Then for a bike rack I really like the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F. This is a lightweight platform rack (which is normally an unheard...

  • Best Bike Rack for a Womans and Childs Bike on a 2012 Volvo XC60
I went out to our test fit garage and tried out a few racks with one of our childs' bikes with fenders and a women's step through mountain bike to see if we had a good fit. In testing the Saris racks like the Freedom Super Clamp, part # SA4025F, the trouble I came across was that the child's bike (A 12-inch wheel bike with 24 inch wheelbase) was a little too short for the Saris' mounting devices to reach. This means that the bike would be riding freely in the cradles and have a chance...

  • Best Trailer Hitch for Bike Rack with Limited Ground Clearance on 2016 VW Jetta
I was able to find some pictures to give you a pretty good idea of what the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7311 looks like after installation and with a bike rack as well. I reached out to EcoHitch see if I could provide you with the actual ground clearance but I wasn't able to get that information, and since we haven't had the chance to install the hitch in house, the photos are the next best indicator. As you can see, you will gain significant ground clearance as...

  • Wheel-Mount 2-Bike Platform Rack for Class 1 Hitch on 2006 Toyota Prius
The Saris SuperClamp EX 2 Bike Platform Rack # SA4025F will fit 2-inch (Class III) hitches and also 1-1/4-inch (Class II) hitches but it will NOT fit a Class I hitch even though it is the same 1-1/4-inch size. The reason is that Class I hitches usually have a welded-in stop to prevent use of any accessory that is not rated as Class I. This helps to avoid accidental overloading of the hitch. You are absolutely right that there are heavier racks like the Thule EasyFold # TH903202 that...

  • Best Way to Carry 4 Bikes on a 2012 Lexus IS250C Convertible
This particular instance has to do with the way that a Class I hitch, like the Curt Class I Round Tube Receiver, part # C11047, is structured and the way that the leverage applied by the weight of the bikes will affect a light duty hitch. Class I hitches are only intended for use to carry 2 bikes because putting weight further back on the shank of the bike rack will apply undue force to the hitch and the rack itself, causing the shank of the bike to possibly bend and fail because of...

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring and Ball Mount Recommendation for 2015 Honda Fit
For smaller, lighter-duty vehicles like your 2015 Honda Fit we only have Class I hitches like the Draw Tite part # 24920 that you referenced. I can't imagine a Class II hitch being available or useful for your vehicle as it wouldn't be able to tow 3,500 lbs regardless of what hitch is on it. We have trailer wiring as part # 118767 which would be a fantastic option confirmed as a fit. For a ball mount you'd then want the part # 36071 which is designed for this hitch and then for hitch...

  • Using the Thule Doubletrack Pro with the Specialized Roll Low Entry
The Thule Doubletrack Pro, part # TH9054 is a great choice for the Specialized Roll Low Entry series. The frame clamp actually rotates around its mounting point on this bike rack to better fit to the bikes loaded onto the rack, and the adjustable wheel cradles can move forward and backwards, or be oriented on the same side for better adjustability for her bike to put whatever part of the frame that you want to latch to in line with the frame clamp. The real fitting concern that I have...

  • Is 2019 Chevy Bolt EV Strong Enough to Have Hitch Installed for Bike Rack
Yes, the portion of the 2019 Chevy Bolt where the EcoHitch part # 306-X7359 installs is strong enough to support the weight of a bike rack. It actually installs where the bumper beam attaches which is reinforced quite a bit. For a bike rack I really like the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F. This is a platform bike rack that only touches the bike at the tires and only weighs 30 lbs. The biggest drawback to platform bike racks has always been the weight of them, but with this...

  • Best Trailer Hitch for Bike Rack on 2016 Audi Q5
The best trailer hitch for a bike rack on your 2016 Audi Q5 is easily the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch # 75940 because it offers the best bumper clearance and ground clearance of the hitches that fit your vehicle. This is a 2" hitch with a concealed crosstube, so not only does it mean your Audi keeps its clean look, but it means the hitch sits up higher and closer to the edge of the bumper than the Curt # C13136. I have added a photo of how this hitch looks when installed on a...

  • Will Adding a Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Affect Gas Mileage on a 2018 Hyundai Ioniq
Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24963 weighs all of 20 pounds. The Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX # SA4025F weighs 35 pounds. So you could place 55 pounds in your 2018 Hyundai Ioniq's storage area and see if that affects mileage. I believe that it would have a minimal impact if it is even measureable in the short term. The only other option for carrying bikes with this vehicle would be a roof rack and that will definitely affect the mileage. There are lighter bike racks you could use. The...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2015 Honda Accord Coupe
The main advantages to a platform bike rack would be that the bikes are very easy to load and unload, the bikes are very secure (at the wheels and frame), the bikes will not be touching, you will be less likely to have the cables of your bike rub on the frame of your bike. The main advantage that hanging racks have over platform racks is weight. If you plan on removing the bike rack frequently a hanging bike rack might be a good choice. Or, we do have a lightweight platform bike rack...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI
For your 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI the best hitch option we have is the Draw Tite part # 24925 that I would recommend. The reason I recommend this hitch is because unlike the Curt equivalent it does not require a stabilizer when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack. For a bike rack I really like the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F for your application. It fits the Draw Tite hitch well, is very lightweight, and since it only touches the bikes at the tires it won't damage...
