Saris SuperClamp EX

The SuperClamp EX lets you rapidly load and safely transport 2 bikes on your vehicle's 1-1/4" or 2" hitch. This rack has front- and rear-wheel hooks to safely transport your bikes without making frame contact. The lightweight, compact design with a platform-style setup allows for rapid bike loading and unloading. Just set your bikes in the wheel trays, ratchet down the wheel hooks, and secure your bikes with the integrated cable lock.

Ratcheting Wheel Hooks

Saris SuperClamp EX ratcheting wheel hooks

It has padded, ratcheting hooks that secure your bikes by the wheels - not by the frame. This prevents the rack from scratching and scuffing your bike's paint or damaging the frame, which makes the SuperClamp EX an excellent choice for transporting bikes with carbon fiber frames.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

The hooks adjust independently - just press the gray button and slide the hook up or down. This adjustability allows you to carry any combination of full-size adult bikes, women's bikes, children's bikes, and alternative-frame bikes.

Adjustable Wheel Trays

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

Injection-molded plastic wheel trays slide along the rack's horizontal arms to accommodate bikes with different wheelbases. These trays secure in place with twist knobs.

Saris SuperClamp EX folding masts at end of tray

Use the included ratcheting straps to secure your bike's rear wheel to the wheel tray.

Saris SuperClamp EX reflectors

There are built-in reflectors on the outside wheel trays that increase visibilty for both daytime and nighttime travel.

If you want to carry a fat bike with tires wider then 4-1/2", you can replace the rack's wheel trays with fat bike cradles (SA4419 - sold separately).

Folding Masts at Ends of Base

Saris SuperClamp EX folding masts at end of tray

The masts are located at opposite ends of the base, making the SuperClamp EX extremely easy to load and unload. Because these masts are at each end of the base, instead of in the middle like most platform racks, they won't interfere in any way with your bikes as you load or unload them. Instead, they simply fold out of the way, giving you a clear path to the wheel trays.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

These masts lock into the upright position for use, then fold down for storage and access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just press down on the gray button and rotate the mast to the desired position. The masts pivot on strong, case-hardened steel brackets that ensure long life and smooth operation.

Folding and Tilting Design

Saris SuperClamp EX folding and tiliting design

There is an integrated lever that lets you tilt the rack down with bikes loaded for access to your rear cargo area or fold the rack up against your vehicle for storage. And it means you can leave the rack in your hitch without it interfering with your cargo hatch or backup camera. The compact design lets you easily store the rack in your garage when it's not in use. There is also a built-in bottle opener over the lever.

Complete Security System

Saris SuperClamp EX cable locks

The SuperClamp EX includes locks to deter theft of your bikes and the rack. A braided, 10-mm stainless steel cable lock built into the base secures your bikes to the rack. The cable has a vinyl coating to prevent it from scratching your bikes. Simply thread the cable through the bike frames and attach it to the lock body at the other end of the base.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

When not in use, the lock stores inside the rack's arm. A push-button releases the lock, so it won't accidentally slide out and drag on the ground during transport.

Saris SuperClamp EX reflectors

The HitchTite lock fits over the end of your threaded hitch pin to secure the rack to your hitch. The threaded hitch pin serves as an anti-rattle device to minimize movement and noise in the hitch.

Saris SuperClamp EX lock

Both locks have push-to-lock bodies that make them easy to secure and help to prevent accidental locking. Integrated dust caps keep the lock cores clean and dry. And the locks are keyed alike, so you can use the same key for both locks.

Saris SuperClamp EX lock

The included adapter sleeve ensures the SuperClamp EX will fit both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches.

Very easy to install. Great rack. Holds the bike very securely. Take the time to move the wheel trays around to get the perfect fit of both bikes. Took about 20 minutes, and it has been worry free ever since. The rack doesn't move while traveling down the road. Nice product. 163527

The only thing better than a Saris designed rack is purchasing it from Etrailer. Super fast delivery as well as a good price. This is the 4th Saris rack that I have owned. What I like about this rack is that, like the Thelma series, it holds the bike by the wheels instead of the frame. It can handle any size tire and any type of frame. The SuperClamp enables you to transport any bike that you have. 591609

It’s also light enough to manage without having to be a weightlifter! Doug. 497520

I’ve been riding for 27 years. I’ve had many racks. When the hitch rack was 1st produced it was a game changer. No more taking off wheels, stretching to get to the top of a vehicle, damage to the car from roof and trunk racks or damage to the bikes from banging into each other. The hitch rack is the best rack and this is the best version. 739213

I've only used the rack once so far, but I really like it. I used it on a 29er carbon mountain bike. Part of the trip was on a dirt road and also on rough and curvy paved roads. There is some play to the rack (from the hinge point of the rack), but it was quiet, and I don't recall ever hearing it. Nor did it look at any time like my bike was getting shaken to death. To be clear, the attachment of the rack to the hitch is rock solid. One of the things I really like this rack, and why I chose it over others, is that the integrated bike lock is a pretty beefy cable, and more importantly, it allows me to lock up both wheels and the frame. Many of the integrated locks on other racks only lock up the frame or one wheel, maybe a frame and one wheel, but not all three. I haven't tested the locks trying to lock up the frame and both wheels on two bikes, but it definitely works for one bike. This rack doesn't fold up as flat as other racks that I've seen, but the security was more important to me. All in all, I'm really happy with the rack so far. It seems well made and everything moves and operates smoothly. 594678

After a year, I still really love this rack. Ive had my bike on it on some pretty rough roads and it worked great. Not too long ago I got rear ended by a semi not hard and the rack got bent up a bit. The guy who hit me ended up paying for a new rack, which gave me the opportunity to get something different but I replaced it with the same one. So yeah, Id buy it again.

Purchased this because we needed a lighter weight platform type two-bike rack for our 2005 Prius which could work with a full shock women's bike (bike needs to be attached and secured to rack by tires, not frame). Instructions with the rack could be better in regards to assembly, but it isn't complicated looking at the photos and videos on etrailer.com helped a lot. This seems to be a good quality rack. Customer service helpful and responded quickly when I contacted them with questions regarding whether this rack was compatible with our 2005 Prius. 150318

I purchased this rack because It stated it would support the weight of my 2 electric bikes. The first trip with the rack installed on our motor home it failed after crossing a railroad crossing at 25 mph. The manufacturer told me to read the small print on the rack where it says not for use on any RV. They charged over a $100 for parts to repair it. Using the rack on my jeep or the motor home shouldn't matter. In my opinion the rack is under designed to carry the weight of the bikes as advertised. In good conscience I can not recommend this rack. 609812

Comments
The reason Saris does not recommend using this rack on a motorhome is the extended rear overhang distance between rear axle and rear bumper typically found on motorhomes. This subjects any hitch mounted accessory to greater jarring and bouncing that would be experienced if the rack were used on the rear of a regular passenger vehicle. This extra bouncing exerts forces on the rack that it wasnt designed to withstand. Remember riding in the back seat of the school bus when it went over a big bump when you were a kid? Same principle. We do show in the product description above that the rack is not recommended on motorhomes or towed trailers.

Easy installation. Seemed like most of it was already assembled just coming out of the box. After installation I put my 29er and Trek road bike on it. Like others before me, it seemed that another 12-15" of length on the bike cable locks would be handy. Being able to lock the front and rear wheels in addition to the frame with the cable locks would make a great rack even better. I was very satisfied with the carrier construction quality and ease of operation. Liked being able to use two hooks for each bike. I would definitely recommend this rack. etrailer shipped very promptly as always and were very helpful with dimensional information regarding hitch set backs to make sure adequate clearance was available to fold various racks up when not transporting bikes. 517248

Noah was a great help finding the product for my needs. I have 2 heavy ebikes that I wanted "wheel contact" instead of "frame contact". I would recommend everyone to adjust (tension) the bolt that operates as the "hinge pin" on this rack. After tightening it down there was significantly less movement of the bikes when hitting potholes and such. I still sometimes tieing on of the uprights to a spare tire carrier adjacent to the carrier to further efforts to negate any slop. 763606

So I bought this for my 2012 Maxima and I’m very pleased with it. It holds the bikes securely and fits my plus bikes very well. My only gripe is that over time it has developed a wobble at the pivot where the arm meets the center of the rack. It concerns me because this is where the pins that hold it in place for the tilt function are and don’t want this thing tilting out on the highway. 738654

Nice design and opperates as expected. Only reason i didnt give it a 5 star is the packaging and decals. There were a few bolts and the lock loose in the packaging which could have caused damage but luckily didn't. Also the decals on the cross bar had plenty of bubbles in them which doesnt look good. Maybe the assembler was having a bad day, but for the price i expected better. 642640

I am really happy with this Saris bike rack. I was looking to replace an older, very serviceable but heavy rack that took up too much space in my garage and didn't easily allow me to open my Forester's back hatch door. The Saris is lighter, more compact when folded, protective of my bikes, and very easily loaded and secured (with built-in locking cables). A quick release allows the rack and bikes to tilt away from the car to allow easy access to the hatch door. In addition, I always look first for American-made products. This rack, which turned out to be well designed and well built and just what I was looking for, is made in Madison, Wisconsin, and that makes this Wisconsinite and Badger alumnus very happy, indeed! Cheers! 617597

This is a review of the Saris SUPERCLAMP EX 2-BIKE but I have to tell a little story about how I came to purchase this item. First, I bought a Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch in March and a Kuat Sherpa 2.0 in early May. The Kuat was very sturdy and well designed. However, even when empty and folded up, it was too high for the rear hatch in my Porsche Macan to open without first bending the Sherpa down . So, I could never enter the rear of the SUV without always moving the rack. This was so annoying that I decided to change to a Saris SUPERCLAMP EX 2-BIKE, which had been my 2nd choice. I returned the Kuat, paying the shipping and a 20% restocking fee, and received and installed the Saris within 3 days. This was about a month ago. The service and support from etrailer.com on this change was fast, courteous and reasonable in price. The Saris is not as sturdy feeling as the Kuat and tips a little when tightening the wheel holders (i.e., pushing down on the wheel holders) due to the torque put on the hitch. But the Saris is plenty sturdy enough, and I have used it to transport my Cannondale Synapse on multiple trips in 1 month, all of duration 30-60 minutes. The Saris is easy to load and unload and keeps the bike very secure even at 70+ mph. And, the Saris folds up much more compactly to allow opening the Macan’s tailgate without first bending the rack down. This is a terrific advantage over the Kuat and makes me very happy that I made the change. I strongly recommend the Saris SUPERCLAMP EX 2-BIKE and etrailer.com, which provided excellent pricing, service and support on all 3 purchases. 541470

  • Differences Between the Saris Freedom SuperClamp and the Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX
The Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX, part # SA4025F is the upgraded version of the existing Saris Freedom Superclamp. This rack is a SuperClamp, using a wheel clamping system instead of a frame clamp. Based on consumer feedback, the Saris Freedom Superclamp EX integrates several of the accessory parts that originally were not included in the SuperClamp's initial offering. Specifically, it adds integrated bike and hitch lock features, plus an upgraded weight capacity.

That means it'll be easy to install and remove from your vehicle since it's light, but also it'll be very easy to load bikes on since it's a platform rack. This rack also only touches bikes at the tire so it protects any damage to delicate frame materials or finishes. Because of the difference in vehicle frames and styles, ground clearance can be more of a concern on certain vehicles when using hitch-mounted accessories. This isn't abnormal, as some vehicles like your VW Jetta just require that the hitch receiver sit a bit lower to the ground because of the rear design and frame space available for mounting the hitch. I went out to our test fit garage and tried out a few racks with one of our childs' bikes with fenders and a women's step through mountain bike to see if we had a good fit. In testing the Saris racks like the Freedom Super Clamp, part # SA4025F, the trouble I came across was that the child's bike (A 12-inch wheel bike with 24 inch wheelbase) was a little too short for the Saris' mounting devices to reach. This means that the bike would be riding freely in the cradles and have a chance...

  • Platform Bike Rack Similar to Kuat Transfer with Capacity for Electric Bike
I have a solution that would work well for you, but I cannot recommend the Kuat Transfer for an E-bike that weighs as much as yours does. The wheel hoops are what is rated for 30 lbs so you would not be able to exceed the single bike capacity by staying under the combined capacity with one bike. The Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F is a very similar bike rack that has a 60 lb per bike capacity that would work well. This rack only weighs 30 lbs too so it's very lightweight.

  • Best Bike Rack Recommendation for 2017 Volvo XC90
I have a great solution for a bike rack for your 2017 Volvo XC90 but there are no trunk racks that are confirmed to fit this vehicle. Instead you'd need a hitch like the part # 76194 to go the hitch bike rack route. I really like the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F. This is a lightweight platform rack (which is normally an unheard of combo). That means it'll be easy to install and remove from your vehicle since it's light, but also it'll be very easy to load bikes on since...

  • Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2016 Honda CR-V For Best Rear Camera Visibility
Due to the location of the backup camera on a 2016 Honda CRV being right under the handle for the rear hatch a platform bike rack is going to give you the best visibility. Mainly because there isn't a large upright mast that would basically block the camera and because when not in use you could fold the arms of the rack down to give you the best visibility over it. For that I would recommend the Saris Freedom SuperClamp 2 Bike Platform Rack # SA4025F. This also happens to be one of the...

  • How to Remove the Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX 2 Bike Platform Rack # SA4025F
To remove the Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX 2 Bike Platform Rack # SA4025F from your vehicle you will simply need to unlock the locking hitch pin with your key and then turn the locking hitch pin counter-clockwise to remove - you may need to use a wrench to do so. You will then be able to pull the Freedom SuperClamp straight out of the hitch receiver on your vehicle. To install it you will just need to reverse the steps mentioned above; insert the shank of the bike rack into the hitch...

  • Is Curt Trailer Hitch Compatible With 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe XL SE with AWD
I checked with Curt just to make sure and the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13153 is absolutely compatible with your 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe XL SE with AWD. This will give your '19 Santa Fe a Class III, 2 inch hitch that has a concealed crosstube so only the receiver is visible, giving it high functionality but allowing your car to maintain its appearance. This hitch has a 900 lb tongue weight capacity and 6,000 lb towing capacity so it is perfect for towing or carrying a bike rack like the Saris...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation that is Easy to Load/Unload and Install/Remove From Vehicle
I really like the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F. This is a lightweight platform rack (which is normally an unheard of combo). That means it'll be easy to install and remove from your vehicle since it's light, but also it'll be very easy to load bikes on since it's a platform rack. This rack also only touches bikes at the tire so it protects any damage to delicate frame materials or finishes.

  • Hitch Bike Rack that Does Not Stick Out Far From Rear of Vehicle
For a bike rack that doesn't stick out very far from the rear of the vehicle we have the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F which can carry up to 2 bikes, but the first and second bikes cradles attach to the same crosstube so the rack doesn't stick out quite as far as other racks. There are no single bike racks that we carry though.

  • Bike Rack Recommendation to Carry Trek Verve 3 E-Bikes
For E-bikes with fenders the Saris SuperClamp EX 2 Bike Platform Rack # SA4025F is not the best choice since it grabs the bikes by the tire where a fender normally is. Especially with a bike that has such a long rear fender like the Trek Verve 3 electric bikes you have. Instead the best choice is the Thule Easy Fold XT part # TH903202 as it uses a frame clamp design instead which won't interfere with the fenders at all. This has the weight capacity you'd need and also has a really convenient...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation to Carry E-Bikes with Fenders
For E-bikes with fenders the best bike rack solution is the Thule EasyFold XT part # TH903202 as it has a higher capacity that E-bikes need since they are heavier and because it grabs the bikes by the frame instead of the front tire so fenders would not get in the way. I attached a picture that shows this rack securing a bike with fenders for you to check out as well.

  • Can the Saris Freedom SuperClamp Hold a 20 Inch Kids Bike and Adult Bike Side by Side
The hooks on the Saris Freedom SuperClamp bike rack # SA4025F are on different tracks, though they are on the same arm, so that they do not interfere with each other and so that you can have different sized bikes loaded next to each other. Take a look at the picture I have included showing the different tracks for the hooks. The arms the hooks slide up and down on can only pivot so far so you would need to slide the wheel trays appropriately so that the arm is in a good position for...

  • Which Bike Rack is More Stable Thule T2 XTB or Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX
I attached test course videos down below that show the Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX 2 Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4inch and 2inch Hitches - Wheel Mount Item # SA4025F and theThule T2 Pro XTB 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2inch Hitches - Tilting - Black Item # TH9034XT both being driven on our test course. It appears the T2 is noticeably more stable. It is considerable heavier at 52 lbs compared to the 35 lbs of the Saris so that might be how it's able to be more stable. Both are amoung the nicest...
