Video Transcript for Malone Hitch Accessories MPG544 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Malone two inch dual purpose hitch receiver. The biggest thing you'll notice about this product is that it has two receiver tubes. This unit allows you to use a hitch mounted bike rack or cargo carrier, while towing a trailer. It's made from a durable steel construction. It features a black, powder-coated finish, which is designed to resist rust and corrosion, making sure that the unit looks good and will last for a long time. This part number actually comes with some anti-rattle devices. This one right here is for use at the vehicle hitch.

You can see here, according to the instructions, it shows you exactly how to install that, and the plate can either go on top of the hitch, or according to this picture can go on the bottom. You'll notice that part of the plate makes contact with the receiver tube of the hitch on your vehicle. The other part of the plate makes contact with the shank of this unit right here, the dual purpose hitch receiver. As you tighten down those bolts, it applies pressure, which actually takes the shank of this unit to one side of the hitch, which is really going to help reduce, if not completely eliminate, rattle and vibration from within the hitch. Then it also uses these two bolts right here, so there's threaded holes that go into the body of each tube. Once your accessory is slid into here, you can tighten the bolts, which will then put pressure on that shank, pushing it to one side or an edge of the receiver tube, again eliminating or at least drastically reducing the amount of play vibration rattle from within the hitch.

You can use a fourteen millimeter or nine-sixteenth inch wrench or socket to tighten these bolts down. A few measurements I want to mention for you real quick. You'll also notice that it comes with a pin and clip. That's a standard five-eighth inch hitch pin, and the clip that goes with it is included. I do want to go over some basic measurements for you. This portion slides into the receiver tube of your hitch.

This receiver tube would be used to install a ball mount, that way you can connect to your trailer. This receiver tube would be used for your hitch mount accessories, such as a bike rack or a cargo rack. The distance between this pin hole to this pin hole center on center is twelve and three-eighths of an inch. From this pin hole to this pin hole going at a straight line center on center, is ten and three-eighths of an inch. The distance that we have between the receiver pin holes, so from this one going straight up to these right here, that's seven and a half inches on center.

You will notice that this receiver tube has two pin holes, so whatever works best for your accessory. That's why those are there. Slide your accessory into this receiver tube, line up the pin hole that lines up with the pin hole on the shank of your accessory, and secure it with the pin and clip or hitch lock. Now, always keep in mind that using an adapter like this will reduce the overall weight capacity of your hitch by 50%. That's going to do it for today's look at the Malone two inch dual purpose hitch receiver.

Bought this to raise bike rack on RV bumper above taillights and license. Although cheaper available, this one is better in many respects--rise is full 7.5 inches rather than 5 or 6, comes with anti-rattle plate and anti-rattle bolts on both upper and lower receivers, superior fit and finish, outer rim reinforcement on both upper and lower receivers, draw bar is solid steel, has full 5/8 pin and 3/8 anti-rattle hardware. Well worth the money. I believe we should support companies willing to give us better products. 467265

I ordered this dual, vertical trailer hitch so that I could use the bike rack and pull the tent trailer at the same time with my 2006 Honda CR-V. Although I haven't actually road tested it yet, the hitch is really well constructed and all measurements that I needed to assure the proper clearances are right on. I think it will work fine, but I will feel better when I can road test it. 480726

The Marlowe is on my buddys Suburu to raise his ebike up so his custom carrier doesn't scrape the ground going through driveway gutters. Works well so far. No pictures yet as he hasn't carried anything yet. 524831

Ask the Experts about this Malone Hitch Adapters
Do you have a question about this Hitch Adapter?

  • Recommended Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter for RV Bike Carrier and Tow Bar for Towing Small Car
  • To attach a hitch mounted bike rack while flat towing a vehicle behind your motorhome, you will need a dual hitch receiver like the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544. This will allow the top raised portion of the adapter to accept an RV compatible bike rack and the lower portion will accept your tow bar. This adapter will reduce your hitch receiver's tongue weight capacity by 50% but that won't be an issue with what you are looking to do as long as you are flat towing instead...

  • Is It Safe to Invert the Malone Dual Receiver Adapter for Towing?
  • It is not recommended to invert the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 for towing purposes. The extended receiver is only intended for accessory use not for a ball mount and trailer connection. Your trailer hitch's tongue weight will also be reduced by 50% when you use your bike rack in this adapter, so you will want to account for that as well. My recommendation is to use a longer ball mount like the # D-26 to give you that extra length you desire.

  • Solution for More Ground Clearance for Cargo Carrier on a 2011 Honda Odyssey
  • We do have the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 which you can use to hold your 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18153 higher in your Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75270 on your 2011 Honda Odyssey, but the downside is that you will lose 50% of the weight capacity of the hitch or your vehicle (whichever is lower). The Draw-Tite trailer hitch has a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 675 lbs so that means it can only hold 337-1/2 lbs including the 70 lb Curt carrier. This means that you...

  • Dual Hitch Receiver Compatible with Towing a Car Dolly
  • The Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, 8" Drop/Rise # RM-077-8 has a towing capacity of 10,000 lbs but the company specifically notes not to use with a trailer or tow dolly. I reached out to my contact at Malone and the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 can be used to tow a car dolly as long as your maximum tongue weight doesn't exceed 400 lbs at the double receiver adapter and the trailer weight. For this adapter the car and car dolly cannot exceed 4,000 lbs so it...

  • Can Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 be Used while Flat Towing
  • Yes, you can use the dual hitch adapter by Malone part # MPG544 to flat tow a vehicle and carry a bike rack in the upper hitch opening.

  • Recommended Bike Carrier and Cargo Carrier Compatibility with Draw-Tite Hitch on 2016 Jeep Renegade
  • The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76021 is rated for tongue weights up to 675 lbs, but you will want to make sure you consult your owner's manual as that hitch will most likely be rated higher than your manufacturer's specifications and you will be limited by the frame it is attached to. For your application you can use the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 Platform 2 Bike Rack w/Cargo Carrier # HR1450-85 which does not require the separate dual hitch adapter. It will...

  • How to Use Both a Bike Rack and Cargo Carrier on the Same 2 Inch Hitch
  • I do have an option for you but we do not have anything that can attach to the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver part # MPG544 and move the connection point for the 2nd receiver tube multiple feet in the air. Instead, I recommend using the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter part # RM-077-8 which unlike the Malone adapter, will not reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. This adapter has a distance of 10-1/4" between the two hitch pin holes (see photo). I...

  • Recommended Dual Purpose Ball Mount with 8 Inch Extension
  • The Malone # MPG544 does not come in an 8 inch extension, however I do have exactly what you are looking for from another manufacturer. I recommend the Curt Dual 2" Receiver Tube Adapter, 8" Extension # D-192. Using an adapter like this will allow you a second receiver, but you will want to follow the capacity reductions associated with use of an adapter like this. A hitch extender like this will reduce your trailer hitch's overall tongue weight capacity by 50%.

  • Comparison of 2 Dual Hitch Adapters
  • You are correct in that the upper 2" hitch receiver tube does not have a collar around the opening in comparison to the lower 2" hitch receiver tube which does on the MaxxTow Dual Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches part # MT70070. The lower 2" hitch receiver tube can be used for towing which is why the collar is present for additional strength whereas the top 2" receiver tube is not designed to be used for towing applications hence why it does not have a support collar. The MaxxTow...

  • Recommended 2 Inch Dual Hitch Adapter for Flat Towing a Vehicle
  • The Malone Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver part # MPG544 can be used to flat tow a vehicle however, this adapter reduces the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50%. It may still work for you with the reduced tongue weight capacity but I have a better solution for you. The Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter part # RM-077-4 is specifically designed for flat towing applications and will not reduce the tongue weight capacity on your RV's hitch. The adapter is rated at 10,000...

  • Can Dual Hitch Adapter Be Used with Weight Distribution System
  • Makers of weight distribution systems generally do not recommend using any sort of hitch adapter/extender with their systems. The reason is that such adapters/extenders like Malone # MPG544 and Curt # D-192 reduce your trailer hitch's tongue weight rating, and by a full 50-percent. The loss of hitch TW capacity derives from the change to the overall geometry of the set-up; the whole WD head and shank will be further from the hitch and this applies extra leverage on the hitch tube, reducing...

  • Recommended Adapter for Ground Clearance of Bike Rack
  • The Curt Dual 2" Receiver Tube Adapter, 8" Extension # D-192 will work well to give you the extra height you desire but using any adapter will reduce your hitch tongue weight by 50%. This won't be an issue with a Curt Class III hitch is you just use your Ridgeback # Y02457. A similar option for more height is the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 but it will also extend the length of the hitch 2-1/2 more inches than the # D-192. This will probably result in the adapter...

  • Recommended Adapter for Bike Rack and Towing with 2 Inch Receiver
  • The Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 is the strongest dual hitch receiver with a maximum trailer weight of 4,000 lbs and maximum tongue weight of 400 lbs according to the manufacturer. So this can be used for flat towing with bike rack but not trailer towing with bike rack. For towing with a bike rack, I recommend the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers - 7,500 lbs # D210. This ball mount will allow you to use your bike rack...

  • Recommended Dual Hitch Adapter For 2017 Kia Sorento for Bike Rack and Pop-up Trailer
  • Your 2017 Kia Sorento has a towing capacity of 2,000 to 5,000 lbs depending on what motor and transmission you have. I recommend checking your owner's manual to make sure you are within the manufacturer's specifications. For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75908. This will give you a 2 inch opening that will allow you to use the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544. This will allow you to tow your...

  • Using a Five Bike Rack with a 2018 Honda Odyssey
  • The Malone Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver, part # MPG544 will work as a rise for your hitch. However, you'll reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50%, dropping your total capacity from 525 pounds with the Draw-Tite Max Frame Class III, part # 76170 down to 262 pounds. This may also increase the amount of ground contact you experience, as there is some length added to the rear of the vehicle with this extension. • Can Malone 2-Inch Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver Adapter MPG544 Be Used with Tow Bar and Bike Rack
  • Yes, the Malone 2-Inch Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver Adapter # MPG544 can be used to tow a vehicle using a tow bar in the lower receiver while at the same time using a hitch-mount type bike rack in the upper receiver. You do want to keep in mind that all such hitch adapters have the unavoidable side-effect of reducing your hitch's rated tongue weight (TW) capacity by 50-percent. TW is the downward force on the hitch from the items installed in it. A tow bar exerts very little TW on a hitch...
