Video Transcript for Swagman XC 2 Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Swagman XC Platform Style 2 Bike Rack for 1 1/4 and 2 inch hitches. Part number S64650. The Swagman XC provides a stress free way to transport your bikes. Each bike is secured at both wheels and at the frame providing a more stable and safe ride. The cushion hooks are adjustable for a variety of different size bikes and ratchet down for a nice tight fit. The wheel cradles are adjustable along the platform to accommodate different wheel bases.

It features a 4 inch shank rise to give you a little more ground clearance here at the rear of the vehicle. It has a weight capacity of 35 pounds per bike and the whole bike rack has a powdered coat finish to resist rust and corrosion. The Swagman XC2 will accommodate a wide variety of bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, Sally's bike, Jimmy's bike and even grandpa's bike. Now that we've gone on some of the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. We've got our adapter on there for our 2 inch by 2 inch receiver. If you wanted to take off the adapter, you can use class 1 and 2 1 1/4 hitches.

What we'll do is we'll place it into our receiver and we'll push it all the way in to line up with our pin holes, that looks pretty good. Then we can take our included anti rattle bolt and clip and thread that through. Now the nice thing about this anti rattle is it going to help reduce the play and most of the wobble within our hitch and our bike rack as you can see all of that there. Let's go ahead and finish tightening that up and put our clip in place. As you can see most of the play and the rattle is gone. We've got it in a stow position here.

This is a going to be a great space saver when not in use. Let's go ahead and get ready to load our bike. First thing we want to do is lower our two arms down. You want to come over here to this pin, go ahead and pull up and lower it down to realign the pin holes right here and just simply slip that back in to lock it in place and we'll repeat that same step on this side. Now this is the platform position of the bike rack, but before we grab our bike I'd like to show you that we can get into our rear hatch.

You can simply pull this pin down here to fold down our center mast and as you can see gives us the opportunity to remove any cargo, gear or groceries, anything we might have with us on our trip. Now we can raise our center mast back up to get ready to load our bike. We want to make sure that our frame hooks are all the way up and out of the way. We'll also want to make sure that our wheel cradles are slid out and loosened up ready to receive our wheels. Now we can grab our bike, insert the front wheel in the wheel cradle and the rear tire in the rear wheel cradle and we'll bring down our first hook. Now we can tighten up our wheel cradles. Now if we are just transporting one bike, we are going to lower down our frame hook on top of the other one but let's go ahead and load up one more bike, take it out on our test course and see how it perform. Here on our test course let's go into our slalom, this is going to show side to side action such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then on to our alternating speed bumps, this is going to show a twisting action such as going over pot holes or or uneven pavement. Then finally onto our solid speed bumps, this is going to show an up and down action such as coming in and out of the driveway, or out of a parking lot and that's going to complete our look at the Swagman XC Platform Style 2 Bike Rack for 1 1/4 and 2 inch hitches, part number S64650. .

I own a 2005 Jeep Wrangler X with 31x10.5x15 oversized tires and wheels. I installed B6196001 HighRock 4x4 Oversize Tire Carrier by Bestop to carry larger spare tire. I needed a bike carrier that would carry our two crusier bikes and clear my spare tire. After measuring, I ordered: -> S64650 - Swagman 2-bike carrier -> 80300 - 7" Hitch Adapter 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver -> RM-061 - Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2" Trailer Hitches Our order arrived very quickly, etrailer.com upgraded the shipping. All these products arrived well packaged and without damage. In 15 minutes I had every thing assembled, installed on my Jeep and bikes loaded. The bike carrier is very well constructed, finish is excellent and easy to adjust. When adjusting wheel loops and loading bikes, make sure you pay attention to bike pedal position. I chose this extension because I did not want to use the adapter that comes with the bike carrier, I wanted as few parts as possible to keep rattles to a minimum and gives me more options for towing. The anti-rattle bolt/pin firmly secures the bike carrier to the extension and the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch keeps the extension adapter from rattling in the receiver. Road tested approximately 25 miles over rough city roads ( including railroad tracks ), county roads and highway. Bikes traveled very well without any rattles. I can remove my complete setup quickly, fold and put in rear of Jeep if desired. I am very well pleased with my purchase. Note to etrailer: Please consider offering Roadmaster Quiet Hitch in black to match receiver and accessories. Paul In the Land of Oz . . . Just South of the Yellow Brick Road! 33947

I purchased this rack for our 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid. I have had other racks for other cars in the past when I used to ride a lot and those were made by Thule and were "roof top" style racks. I can honestly say the the quality of the Swagman XC2 meets or exceeds the that of the Thule upon first examination. This rack is heavy duty and well thought out. A coupe of the main things I was worried about are not a problem at all! My biggest worry is the that the bikes would be sticking up or out into the wind stream messing up the aerodynamics. The other, is I thought the pedals would not clear the bumper. Even with the crank facing down the pedals are still a good 2 inches from the bumper. So, there is no chance of damage to the car from the pedals or crank. Also, I can lower the seat posts on both bikes and bring them way in so they are completely behind the car for long distance journeys. I just set it up regularly for the sake of the photos. Here are some other things, I like about the rack: 1. It is easy to install and remove with tools (you can bolt it on). 2. It is difficult to steal because you can bolt it on. I cannot be easily and quickly stolen. 3. The bikes come on and off the rack very easy. They can literally be removed in seconds. 4. It is very sturdy/solid and does not wobble like some other ones I have owned in the past. 5. The bikes are VERY secure when they are clamped on. 6. The rack is low, so the bikes are not sticking up in the wind stream. 7. The bikes can be brought in behind the car if needed for better aerodynamics by lowering the seat posts. 8. Pedals don't interfere with bumper or trunk. 9. It folds up and can be stored in the trunk. 10. The trunk opens with out interference with the rack in the "up position" and still attached to the car. 230681

I bought this rack to carry one mountain bike and one hybrid path bike on my Sienna van or my 4Runner. I wanted something easier than my hanging bike rack. I received the rack in good condition with slight damage to the inner box but the shipping box was in perfect condition. Very quick delivery. The rack is mostly put together when you receive it. I just installed the bicycle wheel rings and the receiver bar. Each of the hex bolts on the receiver bar have lock washers for very secure attachment, though you need to have a hex wrench to tighten. The wheel rings move smoothly on the support bars and tighten with knobs that have secure nylon locknuts inside to prevent loosening. By the way, the two Phillips head screws go into the ends of the support bars as stoppers ( wasn't explained in the brief instructions). The fit and finish of the rack was better than expected and easy to use. I did have to spend some time, with a helper, to figure out how to position the bikes for the best placement on the rack. It was a bit of a puzzle, but I figured it out. Make sure you put the tallest bike next to the hatch with the derailure inside. This protects the back windshield from the handle bar and moves the pedal further from the door. Now, removing the bikes and replacing them back on the rack should be very quick and easy. To easily remove the holddown clamps, simply push down the top while pressing on the latch. The rubber on the holddown clamps tend to rub off on the bicycle; so, I treated it with 303 protectant and have a layer between it and the bicycle. Also, on the holddown clamps there are holes to allow you to lock each of the latches, however I typically use a cable and lock. 223265

I have a very expensive, very heavy Thule hitch rack. The Swagman beats it, hands down. Im contemplating selling my Thule and buying another Swagman for my other vehicle. The only issue encountered is properly staggering the hold-downs and keeping handle bars from hitting the glass on my van and SUV. Very easy to use and keeps the bicycles from hitting each other.

For now I'm giving this 4 stars, though it could well deserve a 5. Ordering, delivery of the bike rack was smooth and easy. It took me 45 minutes to assemble and install the rack by myself (I am only semi-handy, good at following directions and using basic tools, but not capable of major modifications on my own). I found the instructions clear and the process straight forward. All the parts fit smoothly and didn't require extra greasing or adjusting. The metal is treated and high quality, so with reasonable care (i.e., not leaving out in the rain continuously), it seems it will last a long time. I love the clean, simple, minimalistic design. No need for additional bungees or straps to keep bike parts from wandering or spinning. The rack seems adaptable to a variety of bike sizes and combinations with minimal effort, though it likely will take a little testing to find the best positions for your particular bike combos. It is relatively easy to get on and off, and very easy to move the center post for access to the back hatch. Further bonus - it works fine with my canoe strapped to the roof. Possible cons (too soon to know for sure): Unfortunately, it's been raining nonstop, so I have only briefly road tested the rack. It does bounce and move around in the receiver a bit more than I'd like, so I may have an additional set screw hole drilled into my receiver to help stabilize it, but I'm going to wait and see. The bike travels very smoothly on the highway in the test runs I've made and doesn't affect the handling of the car (Subaru Forester). I do live down a gravel road with a gravel driveway, and the bike wobbles noticeably at slow speeds and on the gravel road. Also, security. I'm not usually in a situation where I need to worry about securing my bike or rack with a lock, but I can see that this could be a concern. For short trips, you can easily fold up the rack and place it inside the vehicle. I think you could lock the bike to the rack. But if you need to leave the rack with or without bikes attached outside the vehicle, then yes it could be a security issue, as the pin isn't made for locking. 257686

Purchased 3 items from etrailer (Swagman-S64650, Hitch -24902, Anit-Rattle Lock -S64029)- Product review below etrailer review (both get similar star rating) Decided to use etrailer based in their support videos and upfront information. For example: on some products I reviewed they provided (in the title info ) Class I or II. For other retailers you had to dig deep into description. Being a novice at the ratings it not only educated but prevented incorrect part ordering. I will not hesitate to use etrailer based on the above and AFTER the purchase support Now to the bike rack. Easy to follow instructions. Easy to assemble. Loading/unloading bikes is simple. Compact when folded- One item note: Universal Foot-UF (connects rack to hitch) does not fold. For UF dis-assembly need to remove thread lock bolts. 547048

I have to say this was an easy product to setup / install. It only took about 20 minutes and setup exactly how the website review showed in the video, this was my first hitch / bike rack install and was very easy to install. The bike rack is great quality and seems very sturdy. The entire process from customer service to the install was painless. I recommended this product if you are in the market for a bike rack. 548339

After setting up my new bike rack, I found that the "universal tow hitch adapter" that's used for bigger tow hitches such as my Toyota Tacoma didn't seem to compliment entirely. Attached pictures, you will see that the locking bolt and along with the cotter pin to secure the locking bolt onto the tow hitch doesn't quite reach through all the way across. Therefore, I wasn't able to insert the cotter pin through the locking bolt and couldn't safely secure my bike rack to the tow hitch of my Tacoma. I know the Toyota Tacoma is a very popular vehicle and I recommend all future orders be replaced with a much longer locking bolt (at least 1/2 inch longer) to accommodate truck owners like me. On the contrary, the bike rack does manage to fit onto my Mazda5 Minivan when utilizing the smaller tow hitch (without the universal tow hitch adapter for Class 3 Receiver). The bike rack is very versatile when loading bikes of various sizes and folds up to stow away very conveniently. Overall, great product!! 513894

Comments

The problem youre experiencing is occurring because the factory hitch on the Tacoma has an extra piece of reinforcement wrapped around the mouth of the receiver tube. This extra piece of metal adds about a 1/4 inch of width to the receiver, which is why the pin wont go in far enough for the retaining clip to fasten. Swagman doesnt offer a longer standard hitch pin, but they do offer a locking model that would be long enough, part # S64029
Locking Anti-Rattle, Threaded Hitch Pin for Swagman Hitch Racks
$36.12
which has a 4-3/8 inch span. Ill link you to this part below. Swagman has assured me that this part will work for you.

Order this bike rack for use on a 2014 Subaru Forester with a factory 1 1/4" trailer hitch. The rack appears to be solid and capable of holding two front suspension mountain bikes. One bike is a 15" men's bike and the other is a 19" men's bike. The rack went together easily and fit into the hitch with no problems. We ordered an anti-rattle locking hitch pin with a cable to lock the bikes and the rack to the car, but the locking hitch pin was too big to thread through the rack. etrailer sent another locking hitch pin in a very easy return process. The new one worked perfectly. We did find that when putting the bikes on the rack, we had to take off the ratchet arms and then slide them back down the center post. We used old socks on the pedals of the bikes to avoid any damage to the car or bikes, and old washcloths between the ratchet arms and the bikes as well since other people reported damage to their bikes' finishes. We also used velcro straps to secure the wheels to the wheel hoops for extra security. All in all the rack seems to be a great product. 86737

We have sent an email to AV about your first question. We can answer the latter, and yes, the center upright mast can fold down flat on top of the tray arms. The tray arms can also fold up. You can see an illustration of this in the instructions we have linked on the page.

Best Bike Rack Hitch Carrier for less than $150.00....EVER! Unfortunately, our area was flooded by Hurricane Harvey not long after I ordered this bike carrier. So it sat in storage until 2 weeks ago. I was finally able to put it together and use it immediately. Simple to put together and even simpler to load bikes on to. took me 15 minutes to put together. Can load 2 bikes onto the rack in less than 30 seconds. That is NOT an exaggeration either. I was worried that once I got the bikes loaded that they'd rock and shake during travel but that was not the case. Loaded 2 bikes onboard and they stayed secure during the whole trip to our start point. Again, the carrier was quiet as a church mouse. No rattling what so ever! No noise at all!! And the cushions on the clamps that hold the bike in place are gentle enough not to put any marks or scratches on my bike frame, which was definitely another concern! All in all, this was one of the best purchases I've made in the last 18 months. If you're considering this carrier and still not sure, take my word and this review, 'Buy it. You will NOT be sorry!' 546249

This is our second rack. We have another one on our other Toyota Corolla. When we got a newer model Corolla I ordered both hitch and rack from etrailer. I love the way this allows the bikes to be behind the airstream of the car, not as much drag, to reduce gas mileage. It actually only drops the gas mileage by one mile/per gallon. Much better than any other rack &/or accessory we've used. We use a cable and key lock to security secure it to the car. then we can use a regular bike lock to lock the bikes to it. The only drawback is there is a little trouble getting into the truck with our mountain bike, straight, handlebars. Only a slight inconvenience to have to adjust the bar/bike a little to get the truck open. Love it. 137428

No complains about the Bike [rack] at all..But I have to tell you a story to keep this from happening to you. I had the trunk lid open and the inside bike wasnt secured, just leaning. Suddenly the bake fell into the trunk. The handlebar just touched the very bottom of the back windshield, not even a half inch anlong the edge, but it broke the whole window out. My fault for not watching andor not taking precautions to keep the bike secure.

Overall I really like it and am very happy with it. Loading and unloading is much smoother than other racks I've used in the past. The instructions could have been a bit better. It never told me to install washers, only showed a picture, so I had to redo the fasteners, but not that big of deal. Overall it was a pretty straight-forward install. I wish the extension part that attaches to the hitch was normal size. Because of it's smaller diameter, I'm relying on the spacers to fill the void, so it's not as snug as I would like, but again, not that big of deal, just a tad wobbly. The pin that goes through the hitch to hold it in place, um, I'm not sure if I like the fact that it's threaded. Only because if it's not lined up perfectly, it's difficult to thread by hand. Also, the pins that hold the folding bars in place, they sometimes get stuck, I'm talking about the little spring loaded bearing that is supposed to go through the holes, it's not as easy to do as I would like, but meh, another small detail. I like the ratchet system that holds down the bikes, pretty nifty, I just hope they last a long time. I can see them wearing out sooner than I would want them to. I've had three or 4 bike racks, and so far this is my favorite one. They hold our two beach cruisers perfectly. I'm excited to acquire more attachments that go with the hitch. Thanks again, cheers!!. 479750

This bike rack is just plain awesome. We bought it for our 2013 Ford Fusion and couldn't be any happier. It carries 2 bikes easily, and loading/unloading of the bikes is a snap. Pros: The rack comes with a bolt to secure the rack to the hitch receiver. It is not necessary to actually bolt the rack (a standard pin is sufficient), but when you take the time to bolt it, the rack is rock solid to the car. No swaying, no rattling, no bouncing, it quite literally becomes one with the car. Once the bike is in the rack, and is secured with the upper bar, there is no question that the bike is safe. We own some pretty expensive road bikes, and never once have we worried about them coming loose or getting damaged. Additionally, the bikes never touch each other OR the car. Cons: On the 2013 Ford Fusion, you can't open the trunk of the car if there is a bike in the rack closest to the car. It is possible to release a pin and swing the bike rack down a bit in order to open the trunk, but I find that much more difficult than just removing the bike... a task that takes just seconds. There is also no way to lock the bikes to the rack in order to prevent theft. When faced with a situation that calls for a lock, we usually just add a bike lock to the bikes themselves, and make sure that it loops around the rack in some way. It wouldn't stop a thief, but it would slow them down. Overall, I'm thrilled with this bike rack. For the money, and for the peace of mind, you can't go wrong. 321539

I bought this rack and a hitch from Etrailer to carry bikes on the back of a 2015 Mazda 3 hatchback. The Etrailer website was GREAT in helping to pick the products. The rack arrived on time as promised. I opted for the XC2 over the slightly more expensive XTC2 because I didn't like the XTC2's plastic straps (in my limited experience, similar plastic straps end up stiffening and breaking over time). As long as the 'hooks' are pushed firmly down on the bikes, the bikes are held very steady. I like that the 'hooks' are held down by a ratchet mechanism rather than the tightening knobs that many competing racks use. The hatch door can just barely be opened when the tower and wheel racks are in the upright (folded up) position. Of course, with bikes on the rack, the hatch cannot be opened. It rides very well on smooth roads. It seems to wobble quite a bit when I jiggle it by hand, which makes me wonder how it would do on rough roads, but the construction seems strong so I won't worry about it. I think any hitch mount will wobble just as much. So far, I've made one 100 mile trip and I'm completely pleased. One more note: the tire racks have hand knobs to tighten the racks into place. At first they were really hard to tighten and didn't seem to hold well. Then I discovered I had put the tire racks on upside down, hence the knobs were on backwards. For some reason it makes a BIG difference! Once on correctly, the knobs worked perfectly. Read the instructions :-) 332048

This is an absolute must-have for cyclists. This rack assembles in minutes with the included tools. It secures perfectly to your hitch with the included hitch pin / threaded bolt. More importantly, it holds your bike very securely and does not allow any movement or spinning of the wheels. Simple, durable, affordable, and highly practical -- you can spend a lot more but you won't get better function and value. 416806

This product is very sturdy and surprisingly well made and easy to assemble. The upper arms ratchet downwards to secure the bikes firmly without damaging their finish. The bikes don't shake or swing when going down the road. Its exactly what i was looking for while being 1/3rd the cost of some brand name units. While i think this has an excellent value for the price, if i had to do it over i would pay the $50 extra to get the next model (XTC-2) because that model has wheel ties a well as the upper arm for holding the bike in place. I don't expect these arms to come loose any time soon but it cannot hurt to have additional straps as a backup. 111925

Comments

I have used this product probably 2-3 times a month since purchasing it and its not showing any sign of wear yet. in Retrospect, my initial thought that i would need to tie the wheels down seems overly cautious as i have not had any mishaps or near mishaps.

I received my bike rack the same day my hitch was installed. I assembled it yesterday and put it on my New Beetle. I have not put my bike on it yet, but am looking forward to it. I am 71 years old and had very little trouble installing it. It rides very smooth on the car. My only comment would be to clarify the directions by making the print larger and showing where all the washers go. This would eliminate any guess work. I especially like that it folds up for storage and minimal footprint behind the car when not in use. 232198

Comments

I have actually used the rack for two bikes and it worked great. The bikes ride smoothly. Once the weather heated up, I took the rack off my car as it is way too hot for biking. The rack takes a little bit of effort for me to attach and detach at my age, but It offers more variety in my riding experience. I would definitely recommend this product.

So far it seems like a great product. I did have a little trouble getting the hitch adapter off so it would fit in my 1-1/4" hitch. I had to use a breaker bar on my little allen wrench to get it loose. The instructions could have been a little better, like maybe a list of the included contents. The set screws didn't look like the ones in the diagram. I had to guess where the washers went because they weren't mentioned anywhere and the diagrams were on the small side. The video review was helpful for how the rack works, but not for how to assemble it. The rack seems very secure and I put my bike on it to try it out, but haven't actually driven anywhere with it yet. Overall, I'm very pleased. 229318

Works great, although I havent been using it as much as Id like to. But every time I have used itit, its been easy to load my bike and my bike stats secure when Im driving.

I was fully prepared to have a difficult time assembling this bike rack from some of the other comments about confusing or missing directions on how to construct. I was puzzled - as I've never assembled anything that was easier or more straight forward. You may think I'm highly advanced or being egotistical - but my take is you'll find this assembly easy - and you'll be relieved. As for the bike rack itself - you'll thank God for who ever engineered this thing many times over. I went by a park recently, before my shipment arrived, and saw a mom & daughter trying to load their bikes on the traditional carriers out there. With frames slanted every which way and their bikes being damaged in the process - I was sold before mine even arrived. I talked to them about the alternatives - but sadly they looked at me like what they were doing was the only way and what was I talking about. I now have the bike rack and I haven't installed a bike yet [will this weekend as I carry 2 over the pass into Eastern Washington]. The rack is so compact and simple behind my car that I hardly notice it's there - and when I do I am amazed by the design simplicity. I'm really going to like this thing. Buy it - everyone will think you're a genius and you be gratefull everytime you pass jumbled bikes or the harness with 50,000 straps. 55595

As usual, I ordered this late one night and it arrived from etrailer within less than a day of shipping. I purchased after reviewing photos and videos of the rack on the website. It's a good, solid bike rack. The bike rack is easy to assemble and attach to the car. Adjustments for bikes is easy and the rack seems stable. Probably about 1/2 inch of sway to the left and right and the same fore and aft during transport. It does seem to fit closely to the car, but pedals clear the bumper and have enough room to move without hitting the car. I would turn the bikes so that the derailleurs are outboard, but I wanted to show how much clearance the bikes have from the bumper, turning them out would give more room than shown. 106132

It would be best to switch those bikes. You always want to keep the heaviest bike closest to the vehicle.

I needed a rack to hold two bikes on a 2005 Honda CRV. This rack is perfect! Since one bike has the dropped crossbar, I needed a rack that would carry both styles, this rack does that. Also, the spare tire and hard cover make clearances an issue. Using the etrailer questions page, I was able to determine the dimensions and clearances of the bike rack to make certain is was correct for my application. I placed the order, had an immediate confirmation and the rack was shipped the next day. It arrived as scheduled in perfect shape. The directions are a little vague and do not match the hardware, but it is not an issue. This is very simple to assemble. I like the fact that the weight of the bikes is supported in the hoops, then the clamps secure the frames, a very secure system. The hoop locations are adjustable, it took me a couple of tries to find the ideal configuration for holding our bikes. Also, the rack can be folded down (with the bikes removed) to allow the rear door to opened without removing the rack from the car. Etrailer is great to deal with and I got a great price with free shipping. 47052

Would the ratcheting arm work on a traditional, old-fashioned girls bike? It looks like the angle and the distance it would have to go down would not make it very stable.

Depending on the bike frame, it may not go down far enough. The solution is a bike adapter bar that would give the hook a different tube to grab on to. Check out part # S64005.

The Swagman Bike Rack: It works fine, but just fine - not great. When I installed it the first time, one of the plastic tightening knobs broke. I called Swagman and they sent me two extras for free. So no real complaint there. The most noteworthy problem with this bike rack is that it is difficult to put on and take off the car. I think it is meant to be a permanent rack. So I left it on the car. There were a couple months when I didn't use it. It was easy to get around and didn't cause any problems getting into my Prius hatchback. So it was easier to leave it on then to take it off. But..... then it rusted. I sprayed with silicon and WD40 and got it back into easy working order, but it took a couple weeks of having to use a mallet to move the sliding rods up and down. Still, for the price and if you perhaps cover it with tied down heavy duty garbage bag to protect from the rain, it works great. On a positive note, the construction does allow for ease in adjusting the wheel holders to accommodate all different size bikes and they never rusted and remain easy to adjust. If you park in a garage.... I would recommend. If not, WD40 and silicon protect right out of the box and as a normal maintenance. 434037

We just purchased the Swagman XCS64650 bike rack. I anticipate we will love it. I was able to assemble it without any problems. The instructions and video were helpful. However, I must say it would be beneficial if the pictures showing where the bolts and associated washers go were bigger. I was able to sort it out and I am not that mechanically gifted. 66402

I anticipated we would really like the bike rack we purchased. After a year, we really, really like it. We relocated from Maryland to Washington state and the bikes rode in the rack without any problems. We are in our 70s and like the fact it is very easy to mount the bikes in the rack. I would highly recommend this rack to anyone.

I had to trade in my car and was unable to get my Yakima rack out of the receiver. It went with the car but It was OK as I had developed arthritis in my wrists and hands and after careful reading, reviews, etc. , I decided I would opt for the Swagman XC 2 for my Prius C. I had no problem putting it together- it was a breeze. I promptly put my Cannondale on-board- no problem. I headed down back roads to my favorite trail at deliberate speeds of 50-55 mph. Some bounce but not much. This reasonably priced product is perfect for my needs. I did add a bungy around the seat post for my own peace of mind. I may see if I can loosen up one of the top grips as it is super tight and hard for me to squeeze- but that may just be me. Lifting the bike onto the the Swagman was a breeze. Haven't tried it with two bikes yet but I don't anticipate any problem. Thank you etrailer for your excellent service, 2nd time around and for all the available installation tips and product reviews. 398956

I bought the S64650 Bike rack and the 75902 Trailer hitch for my 2017 Rogue. First, the product information provided for these, and all, products is fantastic. There is almost so much information, it is sometimes hard to choose the right product. They all seem very good. I also found the hitch installation video to be a great help. I watched it a couple of times and then watched bits of it during the installation. The install went exactly as described in the video. Extremely helpful. I am also happy with the bike rack. Easy to put together, and my first trip out with the bikes was uneventful. Seemed solid. I will say that putting the bike on the track closest to the car requires a bit of care, since it is so close to the vehicle. However, I found that if you put the "hold down" arm for the inside bike on the top, then I can simply slide it off and more easily lower the bike into the tracks. Then put the arm back and and push it down to secure the bike. Much easier than trying to maneuver the bike around the arm and into the track without hitting the vehicle. I will need to get some racks for our kayaks soon, and will definitely use etrailer again. 502669

Thank you Etrailer for replacing my first bike rack that was either defective, or damaged in transit. This bike rack is great! Very light, unlike other platform bike racks. I have arthritis and I can handle this one. I would not bother with a hitch pin lock because it's so easy to use a wrench and steal the rack or bikes. I recommend a cable lock, through the hitch welded ring. With a few uses, you'll see how quick and easy it is to use. I'm satisfied, and good price. I have it on a 2014 Ford Fiesta. 207994

After much research I chose etrailer.com to purchase my trailer hitch and bike carrier. I chose etrailer based on price, the associated product information (including awesome installation videos) and free delivery. The delivery was very prompt and the packaging was just right. Total installation time was about 2 hours but would have been much less if removing the muffler hanger had been easier (more about that later). The hitch fit perfectly with all of the holes lining up exactly right. The hitch is very heavy-duty (over 120 pounds) so it does require two people to lift it into place. The bike rack (Swagman XC 2 Part S64650) is exactly what I needed. Assembly on that was simple and it works perfectly with the Curt hitch. Regarding the muffler hanger. It is a rubberized hanger that is impossible to lift off the bracket...until you apply some WD40. Then it merely slides off. That little gem of information would be a welcome addition to the installation video. If there were more stars to give I would gladly award them to etrailer.com and the products I purchased. I wouldn't consider anyone else. 407147

We are very pleased with the products. Last February, we attached the bike rack to the hitch, added a bike and drove from Colorado to Florida and back with no issues. It was solid and secure. I drilled a hole through the clamp riser so that after attaching the bike and securing with the clamp, I could run a bike lock through that hole to keep anyone from moving the clamp and taking the bike. Just an extra measure of security since the bike remained attached to the bike rack overnight and out of sight while we were traveling. I also added some reflective tape to the bike rack just to provide extra visibility. Next year we will be taking two bikes to Florida. Ill let you know how we do. Thanks for following up.

I have a heavy, long wheelbase curvy framed cruiser with a 3" wire rear tire, wide cranks, and huge handlebars - no other affordable racks I've seen specs for would handle my bike safely and without a high potential for damage. This one works like a charm. Even a somewhat larger bike would fit without much trouble. Placing the bike in the "outside" position is trivially easy. The "inside" position can cause some problems with my vehicle - the pedal ends up in the license plate "well" - but that's OK. Haven't made my long trip yet, but everything about this rack inspires confidence. It's easy enough to install that I won't think twice about popping it on for a quick run out to a nice riding location. 60656

I wanted a tray-style hitch rack from 1UP or Kuat, but they didn't fit my budget, so I contemplated this model for a few months before pulling the trigger. Fit and finish is nicer than expected. Assembly was simple, but would have taken half the time had I noticed the washers that go under the hoop knobs sooner. Use of the rack is far nicer than any hanging racks I've tried. Loading/unloading is fast and easy and the clamp holds the bikes down securely. Thanks to the threaded hitch pin, rack movement is virtually nonexistent, even on bumpy roads. It would be nice if it tilted down away from the vehicle liftgate, but it's not too onerous to unload the bikes and pivot the center post down, which is possible by removing just one pin. Altogether a great value! I'm extremely happy with my purchase, and highly recommend this rack to anyone looking for a 2-bike rack that doesn't break the bank. 500678

The assembly instructions could have been a lot better or the photos could have been large enough to actually see them. The rack looks good and fits nicely on the back of my CRV. I was worried that my Townie wouldn't fit because of a longer wheelbase and odd frame but the rack adjusted easily to the bike. 46329

The whole experience is worth 5 out of 5 Stars! Everyone I spoke with at E-Trailer was very helpful and the product that was recommended fits fine and is a good value. There is only one thing about the Swagman XC bike rack that I'm not happy with and that is the ratchet locking on the clamp down arms. The release mechanism is hard to activate so if someone with out strong hands - like my wife for example - tried to release the arms to remove the bikes they would have lots of trouble. Swagman may want to consider changing this locking mechanism to a hand wheel so strong hands aren't required for release. I'm enclosing photos of the rack installed on my 2005 Acura MDX. 56281

I purchased this to use behind my 2014 Subaru Impreza sedan and installed the Draw Tite 24888 hitch. This is possibly the easiest way to haul your bike that I have seen. It is well built and holds the bike securely. The bike comes on and off in seconds. A lot of bikes have the shifter and brake cables routed beneath the center tube on the frame, so using this carrier keeps them from being in contact with the support arms. I would note that the inside bike will fit with the pedal closer to the car in the high position. (It hits the bumper in the lower position. I cannot speak to smaller, or childrens bikes though.) Also with a bike on the inside, the handlebar keeps you from being able to open the trunk. Considering how easy it is to get the bikes on and off, this is a non issue as far as I'm concerned. (I just thought it was worth noting.) The adjust-ability of this carrier insures it will fit virtually any bike quickly and easily. In summary, I am very happy with this and would not hesitate to recommend this product to anybody. 281648

So far, I've used this carrier only for short trips around my area, so I don't have any long-distance trips to report. It works great. I chose this style because I like having my bikes supported by their tires. I feel there is less chance of damaging them in transit with this method. It was very easy to assemble. I have a torn rotator cuff, and my wife weighs a lightweight 95 pounds - both of us were able to install this rack to our Kia Soul's hitch without help from the other. In other words, it's very easy to use. My plan is to use it as a 1-bike carrier primarily, so I only installed the parts for 1 bike, and I store the rest of the components under the cargo floor of my car. This way, the rack looks cleaner and weighs a bit less when we go to move it from house to car. If we rent or borrow a bike for my wife, it will take me about 5 minutes to add the rest of the equipment. (If you want to use this technique, DON'T put the stop-screws in the main rail, or you won't be able to slide the second bike supports on.) 99805

NO MORE hanging bikes that get damaged and wiggle all around This bike rack is perfect. There is a cheaper model but you cannot lock the rack to the hitch with a wrench. I keep a ratchet type wrench in the trunk. this locking device keeps rattles to nothing at all and makes it very difficult to steal There is a more expensive model but all you seem to get for the money is rubber tie down straps. They will eventually rot away. There are better fasteners for the wheels and very inexpensive. I have this same model at our home up north and I wish I had bought one years ago. Other company tray type racks can cost a fortune and do no better job than this. I also use a strap to trunk lid and there is no wiggle or jiggle and bikes do not get scratched at all.. So easy to place bike on rack, slide down clamp to lock bike and drive away safely Do not for sliding hook down too hard or it could be a little difficult to release, but not impossible Very happy with this bike carrier Just get one! 452928

We've used this rack for a year now on our Honda Fit. It's been great for our two road bikes, and we've taken it on multiple cross-country road trips. No problems with installing, or safety, or quality of the rack. We also bought the matching Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable. I read several reviews of this type of rack before buying and one of the complaints was that the clamp could rub the paint off of your bike's top tube, and the bike can rub the rubber off the clamping surface pf the rack. The way I've found around that is to get a cheap pool noodle, cut in half and split one side along its length. Then place the pool noodle around the top tube of your bike before clamping it down. This protects the finish perfectly on both the bike and the rack, it's light and it's cheap. 364152

Rack was easy to assemble and holds the bikes well. even the comfort bike fits. Only problem I had was that the 2 inch adapter was installed and the bolt holding it was really tight. If you don't have quality allen heads it could be hard to remove. This could have been an isolated instance. 87648

This product offers all of the features I was looking for in a bicycle rack. Assembly was extremely simple. The rack attaches firmly to the trailer hitch and is easy to install and remove. I am very happy with this bike rack. I previously used a rack that hung the bikes from the upper frame. That rack did not work with beach cruiser style bikes. This rack makes beach cruiser bikes easy to carry. The wheels drop into the hoops and the frame is securely held by the upper hooks. The rack appears very well made with a nice black powder coating. It has easy to use pull pins that allow it to be folded for storage and to ease installation of the bikes onto the rack. Negatives would be a less than thorough instruction manual, and an issue where the manual states you must adjust the rack so that the hooks touch the frame where it meets the seat post. This can not be done without the bikes sticking out well past the side of the vehicle. I add a couple bungees for extra security, but overall I like the quality and ease of use of this rack. The price was good and delivery was faster than advertised. I mount it on a class 2 receiver behind a small suv. 524061

2012 Honda CR-V EXL . . . I ordered the Draw-tite hitch and a Swagman XC-2 bike rack together. The bike rack box was shipped inside the box with the hitch; together they were very heavy and awkward. I think that is why the hitch was hanging out of its box on arrival. Somewhere along its travels the hitch suffered a couple of deep scratches - one on either side near the mounting plates. They were bad enough to cause me to go to the store and get some primer and gloss black paint. The installation went well even though I did it on the garage floor while flat on my back. This 66 yr old guy is very appreciative of those who included details and pictures with their review. They allowed me to avoid mistakes. I elected to not remove the under-body panel and I only cut three sides to create a flap that closes the hole back up after the hitch is on. I am very pleased with both items and the quick and easy service of etrailer. 290305

I received this rack as promised and immediately took it on a camping trip. The trip was 150 mi one-way so it got plenty of testing time. It performed flawlessly! The construction is very well thought out and well-made. I really like that it requires no additional straps...just the ratcheting hook is all that's necessary to hold the bike very secure. I put two bikes on it as the pics show. Another note...my truck has a dual rear exhaust but I had no issues with exhaust heat on the tires. This is a great product! 25734

This is an excellent product at this price point. I wanted a bike rack that could carry two bikes, that I could put in the hitch myself and didn’t cost an arm and a leg. This carrier is perfect. It was easy to put together, it is easy to adjust to your bike and holds the bike(s) securely. I am very pleased with the quality. The carrier is solid; while I can get the carrier into the hitch, it is still heavy. Good motivation to stay strong! I hesitated over the fact that you have to have a separate means to lock your bike and/or the carrier. Because I use the carrier infrequently, this has not been an issue, I just use the lock I already had to secure the bike to the carrier. A thief would have to lift the carrier out of the hitch with the bikes attached. Since the carrier is very solid, this would be an interesting sight - someone carrying the carrier with the bikes attached. 528613

This does an ok job carrying mountain bikes. Very easy to mount/dismount the bikes, and the unit holds them securely. Cons: 1. If you have two identical bikes (frame size and style), it can be challenging to figure out how to place them. Even though the two hooks are different lengths, they aren't different enough, so the top hook ends up hitting the bottom one's mount before it snugs onto the bike. Only way to work around this is to have the bikes offset in a less than ideal arrangement, where the hook for one of the bikes is on a sloped part of the top tube instead of a flat area. 2. The hitch pins Swagman uses to hold the upright and folding tray holders in place are made out of cheap steel that rusts quickly. The little spring loaded balls have already corroded to the point that they no longer protrude, so the pins tend to fall out of their holes from road vibration. 409408

Natalie was very helpful and responsive helping with my order and re-scheduling the shipping to accommodate my requests. She stayed in touch and was excellent with follow-up, even when I mistakenly sent her a complaint meant for another company about an entirely different issue. (Be careful when you hit that "Send" button.) The Swagman XC 2-Bike Rack turned out to be better than I expected. It's very well made and built solid. I'm an avid road biker and have recently started mountain biking a lot more. My hanging bike rack wouldn't accommodate my Trek mountain bike so I bought the Swagman which easily carries both the road bike and the MTB and they are both secure. I often drive my bikes to group rides and I can load up either bike quickly and be on the road. Much easier to load up than with my old hitch hanging rack. I'm very happy with this Swagman platform style rack. 403093

I really like this bike rack. Easy to assemble. East to mount on my 2004 Chevy Tracker. I also found it easy to mount my two bikes. I was concerned about clearance from the spare tire, but as you can see there is plenty of clearance. In fact the bikes don't touch anything else. I also purchased the velcro straps to secure the bike wheels to the wheel mount. 46343

Yes Lance. Does this picture show a ladies bike? Were you able to mount a ladies bike step in model without an adaptor?

This is my first time ordering from etrailer.com, but I must say their customer service was excellent. They called me and left a message regarding my shipment, that was a good surprise. The product was tracked the whole way and showed up sooner than expected. As far as the swagman xc2 bike rack, I have assembled it, and found that very easy, diagrams could be a little larger though. I put it on my 2016 Toyota Tacoma, and everything was adjusted to my, and my wife's bike fine. The parts look well made, and we plan on going on a bike trip this weekend. The only concern I have is, that the hitch pin for my Tacoma is a little larger than the hole in the bike rack. I had to get a smaller pin. The rack is secure, but the pin is a little smaller than the hitch holes, which makes the rack move inside the hitch more than I would like. Hope this helps someone. 254689

I put this on the back of a 2003 Wrangler today and fit was such that I could transport a bicycle in either position. This was even with a tire on the back of the Wrangler. E-trailer had the bike rack in my hands in less than three days...Fantastic service. 95480

This is a very high quality bike rack but I'm marking this a 2/5 because I'm very disappointed for one major reason: the threaded hitch pin/anti-rattle bolt does NOT prevent rattle. The bolt itself easily slides right through the hole and does not require tightening, and therefore the entire rack rattles. I'm desperately trying to find a solution and I'm very dissatisfied. I'm driving a 2012 Ford Focus Titanium and I'm using the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch (http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/Ford/Focus/2012/24872.html?vehicleid=2012306671). 81983

Comments

If your bolt slid through the hitch hole without having to thread it in, either:A. This is a manufacturer defect and you should get a replacement.or B. You didnt get the rack far enough into the hitch and the bolt isnt in the rack. Youre likely to lose your entire rack and bikes if youre using it that way.

Thanks for the information Bill. I have checked and we did speak with Allison shortly after her review, and got her all straightened out. She was using the wrong hitch pin hole. One of the holes is threaded and the other is not. The non-threaded hole is used for the 1-1/4 to 2 inch spacer for 2 inch hitches, and is pictured above with an recessed hex head bolt installed. Since this hole is not threaded the included hitch pin did not secure the bike properly, and was the source of her problems.

Ask the Experts about this Swagman Hitch Bike Racks
Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • What are the Differences Between Swagman XTC-2 S64670 and Swagman XC-2 S64650
  • The Swagman XTC-2, part # S64670, offers a few things that have been improved over the Swagman XC-2, part # S64650. The most noticeable is the two-tone color scheme. Beyond the aesthetics, the XTC-2 offers re-designed and improved wheel cradles that are stronger and position the bikes higher up to provide more ground clearance. The wheels hoops on the XTC-2 also have stronger, more durable clamps for adjusting the wheel hoops. Finally, the wheel straps are a better, heavier design. They...

  • Recommendation of Bike Rack for Beach Cruisers with Fenders and 3 inch Wide Tires
  • The Thule T2 Quick-Load 2 Bike Hitch Mounted Folding Rack, item # TH9044, will accept up to 5 inch wide tires but, unless you have over 1 inch of clearance between the fender and the front tire on your cruiser with a fender, you will not be able to secure the bike safely. Another option for both of your cruisers would be the 2 Bike Carrier for 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch Trailer Hitches - Wheel Mount, item # S64650, as long as the weight of each bike is not over 35 pounds. This rack will accept...

  • Comparing the Swagman XTC-2, 2 Bike Carrier and SportRack 2 Bike Racks
  • All three of these platform bike racks are very similar when compared to one another. There are some differences though that I will outline to give you a better idea of what each has to offer and what might work best on your 2007 Honda Civic. To start with, all carriers can carry two bikes, but they all have a different overall capacity in terms of weight. The Swagman XTC-2, # S64670, has a capacity of 35 pounds per bike, or 70 pounds total. The Swagman 2 Bike Carrier, # S64650, has...

  • Correct Trailer Hitch for 2016 Ford Focus ST
  • Because of the exhaust that comes out of the center of the Focus rear bumper, these Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch Receivers with Drawbar # 60290 are only designed to fit certain trims. It will only fit the, Hatchback S, SE, Titanium and Sedan. However, I did find the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11431. It is designed for and confirmed to fit the Hatchback ST. There will be drilling required for installation, exhaust must be temporarily lowered for installation and access holes may need...

  • Spare tire clearance for 2012 Jeep Wrangler with rear mounted spare tire.
  • The best way to determine if a bike rack will clear the spare on a Jeep Wrangler is to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on the trailer hitch to the back edge of the spare tire (see photo). We list this dimension on all of our bike rack product pages. We recommend measuring because this dimension can be different depending on the brand of the trailer hitch and the width of the spare tire. For example, we installed a Curt Class III trailer hitch, # 13432, and this dimension...

  • Advantages of Swagman XTC-2 Bike Rack Part # S64670 Versus the XC Rack Part # S64650
  • If I had to choose between the two, I would choose the XTC-2, part # S64670. Not only do the rubber straps you refer to further secure the bikes to the rack, but the wheel hoops themselves are much stronger. The rack includes a threaded hitch pin, but I would recommend the optional locking hitch pin/cable lock combo part # S64031.

  • Comparing the Swagman XC and XTC-2 Platform Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks on a 2004 Pontiac Vibe
  • There are several differences between the Swagman XC, # S64650, and the Swagman XTC, # S64670. First, the XC uses a different type of wheel loop than the XTC. While it is a solid and sturdy wheel loop, the ones used on the XTC are not only a different design, but a little more well constructed. Both racks use the same ratcheting hook assembly to secure the bikes at the frame. The ratcheting system is a secure and convenient method of securing the bikes. The XTC also includes a strap...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Platform Bike Rack for a Step-Through Frame Bike and 2014 Subaru Forester
  • First, highway driving should actually be less stressful on the rack than surface road driving because there tends to be less curves, bumps, pot holes, and other similar things you would find on the streets. Any of the racks you are interested in should have no issues on the freeway. Stability: platform bike racks are going to move around. This is because of their design. You have long platforms extending out from the center of the hitch with weight on them. There is going to be some...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for a Specialized Low Entry
  • The Specialized Low Entry you are planning on buying has an incredibly low cross tube on it. You can use the Swagman XC bike rack # S64650 with your bike but you will also need the adapter bar part # 64005 to provide a higher attachment point for the arms of the XC. The arms of the XC can go pretty low, but since the cross tube of the bike rack is so short it's hard to say for certain if the arm would line up properly with the bikes frame. The arms of the rack can go down to 15 inches.

  • Recommended Bike Rack for e-Bikes on Tow Vehicle or Motorhome
  • Your best option would be to carry the bikes on the towed vehicle, in this case the Honda CRV. Then you could use an e-bike bike carrier like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 2-Bike Carrier for Electric Bicycles, # HR1450E. This bike rack has a weight capacity of 80 lbs per bike. Please note that the hitch and vehicle are going to have different capacities for tongue weight and gross trailer weight. Always go by the lowest rating. I have linked a video review of this rack for you.

  • Comparing Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, and Curt Trailer Hitches for a 2010 Mazda 3
  • You have done your research. As you have seen, all of the hitches for the 2010 Mazda 3 are Class I trailer hitches. The Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch models do have the safety notch in them that prevent the insertion of a Class II accessory. This is so you will not accidentally overload the hitch. The Curt hitch does not have this feature. This notch and the capacity are what makes a Class I hitch a Class I. As you have said neither the Draw-Tite nor Hidden Hitch models require the use...

  • Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for 2016 Subaru WRX with Torklift EcoHitch Installed
  • For your 2018 Subaru WRX the TorkLift EcoHitch part # 306-X7257 (2 inch hitch) is a great hitch option as it can hide behind the bumper panel when not needed. If you check out the picture I attached of this hitch installed you'll see that the opening appears to be recessed behind the bumper a couple inches. Now the Swagman XC part # S64650 has a curve in the shank pretty close to where the rack slides into the hitch so it would be too close to call, but I have a better option all-around...

  • Difference Between Swagman XTC-2 and XC 2 Platform Bike Racks

The Swagman XTC-2 features re-designed and improved wheel cradles that are stronger and constructed with a soft coating to protect your bikes. • As long as you have a hitch installed on your 2015 Honda CRV like the Draw Tite part # 75742 yes, the Swagman XTC-2 Bike Rack part # S64670 that you referenced would fit and work well for you. The Swagman XTC2, part # S64670 is one of the most popular racks because it's so easy to use, and because the rack has an angled shank that would raise the bike rack up by three inches providing additional ground clearance. Because of that, this is the rack I'd recommend for you. The rack includes...

  • Will a Hitch Mount Hanging Bike Rack Damage the Cables on a Trek Hybrid Bicycle
  • Using a hanging rack like the Standard 4 Bike Rack, # S64400, could put pressure on the cable. So while it is highly unlikely it will damage the cable, it is possible, but i have not heard of any problems like this occurring. This rack does have channels in the cradles to help protect the cables on bikes. You may want to consider a platform rack that secures the bike at the wheels...
