Video Transcript for Rhino Rack Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2011 Subaru Forester

Speaker 1: Today on our 2011 Subaru Forester, we're going to be test fitting the Rhino Rack 2 Bike Rack for two inch hitches, part number RRRBC045. We already have our bike installed on the rack. Let's take a closer look here. This does come with this strap included, and this is the stabilization strap for where you have even two bikes, you wrap it around the frames of the bikes into a tow point on the vehicle itself, and tighten it up, and that's going to help keep everything together while you're driving, and keep it from moving too far back and forth.Like most hanging style bike racks, the cradles here are adjustable back and forth, or side to side, and we have them pointed inward like you see here, and that's going to help out with loading and unloading our bike to the inside. At the ends of our arms, we do have reflective material, and that's going to help for better visibility at night, and how it actually grips the bike, it'll have three points of contact. It will have two straps on our top tube, and one off to the side, which is going to serve as an anti-sway cradle to keep the bike from moving too far back and forth. Now, as you see with the stabilization strap here, it's not going anywhere.Let's go ahead and remove the strap, and then we'll remove our bike.

You can see with that folded in how easy it is for me to take this on . Take this off, or put it back on. Excuse me.With it in this position, I'd like to give you a couple quick measurements. Measuring from the edge of the bumper to our outermost point, which is going to be the edge of our arms here, we've added about 27.5 inches to the rear of the vehicle. For our ground clearance to this edge here, that's about 12 inches or a foot, and then for our closest point, that's going to be about three inches to this edge here. For close quarter situations such as parking or putting it in your garage, you can fold down the arms, and this is a little different, too.

While most bike racks will have the latch up at the top, or those pins that you have to remove and replace once you're finished, this has a handle on the side, very easy to use. You pull it towards the vehicle, and let it fold down until you hear that click, and now again, measuring from the edge of the bumper, make sure I get this just right, that's going to be about 11 inches now that you've added to the rear so that's quite a bit of difference there. Also, you can get rear hatch access with this as well. However, you can't do this when both bikes are still attached. This time, you go to the handle at the base here. Again, pull it towards the vehicle, let it tilt away, and now we have full hatch access to get what we need.

To put it back into position, you just simple push up until you hear the click, and make sure that that is locked in.One other thing I'd like to one point out . On the back side here, you see these loops. That's for an optional cable lock which is sold separately to help create security for your bikes once they're attached, and how this is attached to the hitch will have an anti-rattle bolt and a pin on the other side here, and once that's tightened down, it will take out the shaking plane in the shank, and make for a smoother ride, and there you have it for the Rhino Rack 2 Bike Rack for two inch hitches on our 2011 Subaru Forester.

the Rhino Bike Rack is easy to load and it is easy to adjust so that you can get into the back of your vehicle. The Rhino Bike Rack, however, seems somewhat "loose" on my vehicle and wiggles back and forth either without hauling a bike or when hauling a bike on the back of the car. 661964

Comments
The movement you describe is very common. Its caused by the differences in the manufacturing tolerances between the inside dimension of the hitch receiver and the outside dimension of the hitch mounted accessory, which is a bike rack in this case. The inside dimension of the hitch receiver is a bit larger than 2 inches, while the outside dimension of the bike racks shank is a bit less than that. If they were the same exact size, they wouldnt fit together. An anti rattle device like the # 63232
Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 2-5/8" Span
$31.95
would deter theft, as well as tightening up that connection.

Product arrived within 5 days of placing the order. My husband helped install it. Everything went smooth. I'm going to like this style bike rake. Overall A+ experience. 180081

Just received the Rhino Rack and began install immediately. Everything was included, no parts missing. I really liked the tightening hitch pin--made everything feel solid. Loaded up my mountain bike--all straps worked great. My wife and I took an initial trip with the SUV (driving on chewed-up Illinois streets and roads), stopped, and re-tightened after a mile or so. There was very little movement on anything. Took the long way back home, and bike was positioned solidly on the rack. Two days later loaded my wife's bike as well. There was a touch more bounce on bumps and potholes (our streets are torn up after last winter) but the bikes and the rack were solidly in place. If I could suggest I would add another 1/4" or so to the fabric strap's width and another 12 inches to the length. That way I could do a full turn around each wheel as I pulled it tight. As it is now there is only a couple inches to spare. But this is a superior product that I'd recommend for anyone. 546944

While it was a disappointment that there was a delay in delivering the product, short of the lack of adequate strapping (i.e., a strap for each restraint point) the product works well for its intended purpose. 563454

Not bad, although a little cumbersome. Wish it had an attachable zippered bag to store the straps to keep everything together. 560031

This rack is sturdy and was easy to install. I worried the levers might be hard to push, but it can easily be done with one hand. Loading and unloading 2 adult mountain bikes was a bit tricky at first (i had to try several positions for a snug fit). A great price for what I was looking for! 652701

The Draw-Tite hitch receiver fit perfectly and was a breeze to install as was the Rhino-Rack bike rack. The quality is exceptional and looks great on the back of my civic! I will be ordering roof racks as soon as I'm done writing this, thanks etrailer!! 262455

Got this rack yesterday (using it on a 2005 Honda CRV) was concerned because spare tire is on outside of car. Bought a cheaper rack ($40) that did not work on this car. Rino Rack assembled easily, is well made, heavy duty steel, a great design AND it works on this car as shown in your video. Well worth the extra $$$, made me a happy biker. A great product, thanks etrailer.com 420621

The rack has met all of my expectations. The only thing that might make it even better would be if it came with locking pins so that the rack cannot be removed from the hitch. Otherwise I’m very happy with the bike rack. 527256

The Rhino Rack fits great on my 2005 CRV, there was very little assembly required. It's well made too -- very sturdy, and no noticeable sway when loaded with 2 mountain bikes. You can't beat it for the price! Highly recommended. 538946

My friend and I each bought this product and find the quality to be excellent. My complaint is that 2 bikes are not an easy fit. I wonder if the “cradles” can be separated more but it too difficult for me. Other than that I highly recommend this item 557909

The cradles can indeed be moved forward and backward on the racks arms. Mix some dish soap and water, and paint it on the arms next to the cradles, itll act as a lubricant and allow you to rotate or move the cradles as needed.

Product delivered on time. Well packaged to protect from shippers. Nice finish and all parts sealed in bags. Easy instructions for installation. Bike carrier far superior construction than I found with comparable Thule and Yakima. Also price was main consideration for choosing this bike carrier. 470250

Still works as good as when first bought 1 yr ago. Lots of traveling over salted roads snow country and I have not seen any evidence of rust, etc. Would buy this product again but this should last for many years.

I continue to be pleasantly surprised with the way this rack has held up after a year. I use it multiple times each week and it shows no signs of wear. My bike loads easily and quickly and removal from my Curt trailer hitch takes less than a few minutes. Glad I have it! 390509

Loving my Rhino 2 Bike Rack! The wide 3 in. frame holders are great as I have Roll Elite Specialized bike and the frame is more flat & wide. 2 in. post fits my 2 in. hitch nicely on my 2017 Lincoln MKC. Very stable, good price and impressive customer communication! Have recommended to friends. 517405

Superior rack compared to competitors I have owned. Over all design well thought out, nice to have regulation 2" insert without adapter. Well built with high quality steel. However, the designers did not take into consideration security which is very important for urban areas. One of my racks was stolen off my car with similar install. I have a key hitch pin which fits my Curt hitch but I cannot use it with the Rhino rack. The current hitch bolt should at the very least be threaded all the way through and nutted along with the cotter pin. As shipped it will rattle and cause wear on the hitch, I am taking into consideration quick removal. I like the rack so much I am going to modify the insert myself to enable me to use the key lock hitch pin. I would prefer that an option be created for future purchasers. 732321

The two bike Rhino-Rack was easy to put together and install in my crossover. The wrench supplied is almost useless. My suggestion would be to supply a socket type wrench. The best thing is the bikes ride higher than in my old Thule rack. Which means they don’t set off the rear sensors Allowing me to back up without turning off those sensors. 725783

Rack arrived on time as specified when ordering, able to assemble, bolted to the car and get bikes loaded inside an hour which endorses the videos and instructions which made it look easy. Needed an extender bike bar for the wife’s bike but these are cheap and available anywhere, i.e. [retail corporation]. Seems to be a very solid rack with no rattles on the test run. Fully recommend for ease of install and use. 695385

The Rhino-Rack 2 Bike Rack - 2" Hitches - Tilting # RRRBC045 is a nice bike rack with a tilt away feature for cargo access as well as a more sturdy design with reflectors. It doesn't come with any locks, but does come with an anti-rattle pin. This is a very nice bike carrier for the cost and I think you will really like it. Another option you may also like is the Rola TX-102 2-Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting # 59400. This carrier comes with the integrated cable lock...

Since the Curt bike rack part # C18029 comes with a threaded hitch pin bolt there isn't a way to use the J-pin # 63201 with it. That being said we have found that the anti-rattle lock # SR0901 is a fit for the threads of the Curt bike racks so this would be the way to go. The Rhino Rack part # RRRBC045 is a great option as well. This would work great with the Draw Tite hitch part # 75237 that you mentioned as well.

Yes, the hitch pin for the Rhino-Rack 2 Bike Rack # RRRBC045 is threaded. You could hand tighten it an not use tools but to get the full effect of the anti-rattle capabilities you would use a tool to tighten and remove the pin. I have linked a video review of this rack for you.

  • Why is the Rhino-Rack 2 Bike Rack # RRRBC045 Not Compatible with a Motorhome
Since the rear axle is located much further away from the trailer hitch on a motorhome as opposed to a passenger vehicle some bike rack manufacturers have said that certain bike racks are not compatible. This is due to the extra movement and stress caused by the further distance from the axle. If you really like the Rhino-Rack 2 Bike Rack # RRRBC045 but want to use it on a motorhome then I recommend taking a look at the popular Thule Roadway # TH912XTR. This has the same tilting and...

This rack holds the bikes at the wheels only so the frame design won't matter. And this rack weighs just 17 pounds so it is easy to handle and store. I have linked video reviews of both bike racks for you.

The top pivot bolt on the Rhino-Rack 2 Bike Rack # RRRBC045 is not a piece that is removable to allow for a tee bar, and I would not recommend using it as a way to support a canoe. Instead, you would need to use a roof rack and a carrier such as the Thule Portage Canoe Carrier # TH819. This will work with round, square, aero, elliptical, and most factory crossbars that have a spread between 24 inches and 36 inches. If you do not have a roof rack on your 2013 Toyota RAV4 I would be happy...
