Hello, hope this finds you well! I am considering purchasing a trailer hitch for my 2010 base mini cooper. I see you all have a 1.25” trailer hitch available, just wanted to confirm that was the only option not 2” before buying. Thank you for any assistance! Natalie

Hey Natalie, thanks for reaching out. Yes, the only hitches made for the 2010 Mini Cooper are 1-1/4" hitches. The 2" receivers are typically only made for larger vehicles that are more intended for towing heavier weight. For a 2010 Mini Cooper, a 1-1/4" hitch will be your only option.

If you Mini has the single exhaust, you'll need the following:

- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11160

Or, if you have the center mounted dual exhaust, you'll need this:

- EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 1-1/4" # EH47FR

Thank you Jesse, I appreciate the info! This will only be used for a bike hitch, and I'll make sure to not exceed tongue weight max etc. One question I have for bike racks - I have a class 1 60lb ebike as well as regular bikes. Most "ebike rated" bike racks seem to use a 2" hitch. Should I go by overall weight rating, or just plan to never carry my ebike on a non-ebike-rated trailer? Thank you!

@Natalie You will need to use an e-bike rated rack that has a per-bike weight capacity of at least 60 lbs. Please do not carry an e-bike on a non e-bike rated rack. That would be super dangerous. The 1-1/4" class 1 hitch does limit the options, but there are a few racks out there that will work with that hitch and can hold a 60 lbs e-bike. Here are the options we offer: - Thule Epos Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel or Frame Mount # TH99XE (75 lb per bike capacity) - Kuat NV 2.0 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches - Wheel Mount - Metallic Black # NV12B (60 lb per bike capacity) - Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches - Wheel Mount # TH23JV (60 lbs per bike capacity) - Kuat Piston Pro Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches - Wheel Mount # KU66ZR (60 lbs per bike capacity) Personally, I recommend the Thule Epos # TH99XE since it has a higher capacity. With your e-bike being 60 lbs you would be maxing out the other racks, so the Epos gives you a bit more of a safety net.

@JesseM thank you for the reply! I’ll take a look and see what’s realistic in my price range. Could be that my ebike doesn’t travel with me which would be totally fine. Thank you for the very clear guidance, I absolutely dont want to endanger others on the road!
