  • One Rack for Skinny Tires and Wide Ones: Wider-than-normal wheel trays let you carry your road bike and your lighter e-bike or fat tire so the whole household's bikes can come along.
  • Move It Between Vehicles Easily: Fits 1-1/4" and 2" receivers so you can switch vehicles when plans change.
  • Access Cargo Without Unloading: Tilt without taking your bikes off your rack to open your hatch or drop your tailgate.
  • Locks Up: Locking threaded hitch pin and ratchet hooks; built-in drawbar anchor gives you a spot for your chain and U lock.

Features to know about

Tilts Without Unloading Your Bikes

Swagman Current Pro tilt and fold handles shown in lime green Swagman Current Pro tilt without getting under your rack

The fold and tilt handle sits within easy reach on the mast of your rack, so you can change its position while you're standing behind your vehicle. That means less crouching, no crawling on the ground to pull pins, and no unloading your bikes when you just want to open your hatch or drop your tailgate and grab a cooler or stroller mid-trip.

Lock Your Bikes to the Rack and the Rack to Your Hitch

Swagman Current Pro integrated lock system for ratchet hooks. Swagman Current Pro locking hitch pin.

The Current Pro includes locking ratchet hooks that grab your bike by the frame to keep your bikes secured to the rack, plus a locking hitch pin to help secure the rack to your receiver. It's a simple way to secure your gear without piecing together separate parts. But if you have a preferred security chain or U-lock, the anchor point on the drawbar gives you a spot to add them.

When Your Bikes Are the Heavy Ones, Add a Ramp

Swagman Ramp and Bridge compatibility.

If lifting your bike onto a platform rack is the part you dread, the Current Pro works with Swagman's Ramp and Bridge (S32YR - sold separately). You can roll your bike up into the tray, then strap the wheels and clamp it down.

Video Transcript for Swagman Current Pro Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes Review - 2021 Ram ProMaster 2500 - S65SR

Hi, I'm Matt with etrailer. Today we're gonna be talking about the Swagman Current Pro bike rack on the back of our 2021 Ram ProMaster 2500. Now this is gonna be a great option if maybe you're gonna be putting this between vehicles, your other just regular driving vehicles. It's has a 1 1/4" shank or a receiver, and the ProMaster here is gonna have a 2" receiver, so you can use it for different vehicles, especially if you plan on using this right here just for vacation and camping, but it's also gonna have a pretty high weight capacity where you can even put e-bikes on the back of this too. But let's talk about how it's sitting on here at the moment with a bike. So I will say with road bikes, I think they work really nice on here.

If you're bouncing around, it's not gonna move too much and we have clearance. Now, I have had a mountain bike on here and it was making contact with our back window, so that is something to consider. A few things you can do to negate that is either put a pool noodle back there or a type of a cover on that handlebar so it doesn't damage that window. Now when it comes to clearance to your doors, you're not gonna get full clearance. I can show you what that looks like though.

If you are looking for full clearance, a rack that I would recommend is gonna be either the RockyMounts BackStage, or the RockMounts AfterParty 'cause it has a swing-away function on there. But when I go to open this, we are gonna make contact right here with our door. This is still a decent amount of room though to access anything inside of here, so if I need to grab these tools or smaller things, we'll have space to do so. (door clunks) But let's close this up and then I can show you how it is as you work with it and remove our bike. So we're gonna have a strap on each tire.

Now we'll say, since I have these more narrow tires, that strap isn't making contact with it at the moment, but it still feels really sturdy in here. Since it's gonna have a groove specifically for skinny tires, same thing on the front side. And when it comes to removing the bike entirely, what I'll do is just completely take off these hooks. Find it a little bit easier to work that way. I like that in general just for this style of bike rack anyways.

Now sometimes if you kind of cinch this down here pretty hard, it can be a little bit hard to push off. That one actually came off pretty easy. I'm just gonna put that here for the moment. And you could just take the bike straight off, but if you have an e-bike, it's probably gonna be a little bit difficult, so you can actually push on this green tab and push this down. You'll kind of here a click that when it engages and it'll click back down at the bottom and now you can just lift it up and take it out for a ride. Now when we're looking at those cradles, you'll notice the designs of 'em, they are pretty curved. I like that design because it's gonna keep your tires in place from going back and forth and these are gonna be adjustable if you have a different wheel base. But let's put everything back up so it looks nice and tidy and will be road-ready. (bike rack clattering) You also wanna make sure you don't forget to put on those hooks because we can't carry our bikes without 'em. I'll usually just throw 'em on in this position, just lining up those grooves (bike rack clattering) until it works. And from here, we can get a couple measurements. The first measurement I'm gonna get is gonna be the ground clearance. Ground clearance from the furthest point back is gonna be roughly around 25", so even with those e-bikes, we're gonna have plenty of clearance there. And for the overall distance away from the back of the vehicle, this is roughly gonna be a little bit under 34". So for a two-bike rack, that's actually pretty good, but we can save some space. The way we do that is by pulling up on that safety lever, squeezing the trigger just like we did to tilt it back till it stops here, and now this is only gonna be sitting about 17". Now that's gonna give you an idea if you're in a really tight spot, like a parking spot, a garage, how much space you have left. Now in this position, it is gonna block a little bit of our license plate right here. It'll still be partially visible. And when it comes to our back window and tail lights and backup camera, that's not gonna be blocked at all. And when it comes to the installation, on the back of here we are gonna have this 1 1/4" shank that's gonna go into our 2" hitch receiver. The way that's possible is 'cause we have that adapter. That's how it works with both those hitch types. We're gonna have an anti-rattle bolt that goes through and connects to a lock corner on the other side, and to make this whole process easier, we are gonna have this alignment collar, so when you're taking this in and out, it'll be a little bit easier to match up each time. Now overall, I do think this is gonna be a pretty solid option for anyone who's looking for a pretty affordable e-bike carrier, especially if you're gonna be moving it between the two vehicles. Another good e-bike carrier that I like is gonna be the Hollywood Destination E-Bike Rack. It's in a similar price range as this one right here, and it actually has a little bit higher of a weight capacity and I just kinda like the way it feels. Now, the one downside to it is it's gonna have a few more touch points for removing your bikes, and it's also not gonna have that adapter that lets it work with 1 1/4" shanks so it won't be as adaptable as this one right here. But if you guys do decide to go with this, let us know how it's working for you in either a comment, a review, and if you have any other questions, let us know here at etrailer. And again, I'm Matt, and thanks for watching.
