Video Transcript for Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting for GM Review

We're going to show you how to install the Derale Factory GM Adapter, part number D1303l5, which helps us out, because it means we don't have to cut or alter anything on the vehicle as far as factory connections. Now, to slide this into our hose, we're going to wrap it up with a nice, soft cloth, just like that. Then maybe use a pair of pliers or something to hold it. You don't want to mar it, you don't want to scar it, because it makes the seal inside of there . Then we'll just kind of .. There will be good.

We'll have plenty of room here for our hose clamp. Slide that down on and tighten it up. Now we can take our adapter and slide it right into the back of the radiator, and re-secure it with the clip. That's going to complete today's installation of the Derale Factory GM Adapter, part number D13035.

snaped in with no leaks or problems.

good

by:

very well made product great shipping thanks

by:

Vendor should offer a 90 degree sweep. But great service from a trusted seller! :]

by:

Made the install completely reversible. I don't like cutting stuff up and this adapter avoids that entirely.

by:

Easy install. No leaks detected after installation of the trans cooler.

by:

This adapter works well. It fits into the radiator transmission line connectors used on many GM vehicle. By unplugging a transmission line from the radiator and installing this adapter in its place, it's possible to add an auxiliary transmission cooler without cutting the factory transmission line.

Note that this adapter is plastic. I assume it's made of material tough enough that it won't break (such as nylon), but I don't know this for fact. On the Derale web site this part appears to be steel, so I assumed they changed it from steel to plastic at some time. I believe steel adapters are available from other sources, if that's your preference.

I purchased the Derale 9000 trans cooler to install on my 2017 GMC Savana 2500 to supplement the humorous excuse of a cooler that is installed by GMC. I carry a decent load most time, putting my van at around it's 8,600lb rating due to all of the tools I carry. I very rarely pull a trailer and empty out a good portion of my van when I do. On a hot day last week my trans temp crept to 206° and I decided it was time to do something to help. I installed this cooler yesterday and pulled my 6'x10' cargo trailer 15 miles both ways and the temp topped out at 184° which I think is great considering I had a full load out on my van and a light load in the trailer. The trans cooler is pretty straightforward to install. Mine took a little longer as I pulled my condenser loose to feed the fasteners from the back to the front, other wise I would have had to remove my fan shroud to access the straps to put the fastener buttons on. The most difficult potion was getting the fittings into the rubber hose, but pre-lube with a little ATF amd they will go in with some brute force. The cooler arrived in perfect condition, and appears to be a well built unit. All parts were present and after about an hour and a half or two it was ready to go. Just be sure to have addional AT fluid on hand to top the system off. All in all I'm happy with my purchase and look forward to seeing of it makes as much of a temperature difference as I'm hoping it will.

by:

Auxiliary radiator works great and was very easy to install after looking at etrailers video online.
I would have given it 5 Stars if the cheap piece of hose that came with the kit had not blown on the way home from work and sprayed all my trans fluid under the highway.

by:

The transmission radiator , was a involved install, changed to a set of brackets, aluminum, to free float the radiator between the A/C dryer and Louvered shutters of the truck. Didn’t like connecting the two together for thinking heat sinking possibilities and become less effective. Was running at 139F, now 105F.
Your install video was very helpful to my planning and how I was going to do it. Install was on a 2020 GMC Canyon.

by:

Fit perfect on my Town and Country and made connect much easier.

by:

Fit perfectly

Hello. I ordered your products for both my wife"s 2011 Chevy Suburban and my 2008 Chevy Silverado. My Silverado also needed the the trailer wiring which I also obtained from you. Thank you for outstanding customer service and great products. Delivery times were great as well. Please find atached pics of install in the Suburban.

by:

Based on how this felt after installation, I was sure it was going to leak. I'm glad I was wrong. It works wonderfully.

by:

Works as expected, although the snap ring was hard to put back on. Maybe just that my fingers are too big to hold onto it and get it installed. Only thing better would be if it came with a second snap ring, I lost mine for about 20 min on the ground since it popped off while uninstalling the original pipe.

by:

This adaptor was a must for the cooler installation as the adaptor included with the cooler kit did not fit my vehicle. This alloy adaptor was not listed for fit on my 2017 GMC Sierra. I contacted the manufacturer and they could not verify fit. I purchased the adaptor anyhow and compared gage measure to the original tube fitting on my vehicle and it was the exact fit. I would prefer the adapter be another 1/2"- 3/4" longer as I used two hose clamps at each hose connection on my installation to insure good seal.

The adaptor is working perfectly..No leaks!

My first time to put one trans cooler in. Besides having to remove grill first, it went well and I love it! People give etrailer a try!

by:

Hose is way to short but all in all I guess it’s good quality

by:

Product was exactly as described. Easily snapped into place where stock transmission line fit, and provided a simple way to add an addition transmission cooler with no cutting or awkward fittings

I ordered a transmission cooler for my '09 Tahoe that, even with the small cooler for the towing package, just could not handle the California/Oregon mountains. I had my trusted mechanic install it (he has much greater expertise than I). I've just returned from an identical trip over those same mountains. What a difference! Instead of topping out at 230 degrees (dangerous), I topped out at 183, only 13 degrees from normal operating temp. I ordered the cooler and installation hardware. It's been awesome not to have to worry anymore about transmission burn out hauling my trailer that is 25% BELOW advertised towing capacity of this vehicle. Kudos to etrailer for offering such great products!

Great quality and fit!

by:

I received the cooler and Snap-In radiator adapter and thankfully it was sooner than expected. Everything was in order except that the cooler hose was 5/16" ID and the cooler and adapter are 3/8". Since the hose was not long enough (I needed 6ft) I was going to have to purchase hose anyway.
Everything works fine on my 2011 Chevy Traverse but unfortunately I neglected to take photos of the installation. However as a note for other Traverse Installers it is necessary to remove the front clip in order to gain access to the radiator. I made my own bracket to hold the cooler and mounted it in front of the AC condenser on the steel bumper which is accessible after the fascia (clip) is removed. I do not like the direct contact with the condenser. The bracket is bolted to the bumper as I drilled and tapped holes for the mounting points.
The clip is easy to remove after removing the inner fender guards. The factory manual suggests using a plastic wedge to unsnap the fascia below the headlamps. I used a plastic one that is used for installing glass/window seals.
It wasn't a quick install but not too difficult either. A significant part of the time spent involved the design, cutting and welding of the bracket.
Thanks,
Bob

I bought this because the transmission temp in my 2013 Avalanche was hitting 220 when towing a boat. Which seems high. After researching I found that transmissions in those models are ok up to a maximum of 275 degrees (which seems crazy but it is rated that high from chevy. There’s a website called Silverado.com that has a lot of info ). I installed this product and it worked really well. Easy install with the video if you have mechanical ability. Dropped temps by about 30 degrees. Still working great no problems. Only concern I have is that the transmission temp stays pretty low in the winter. It’s working well though. I would highly recommend this product. Good products, good service!

I used this snap-in connector fitting in the Grand Caravan when I installed the Derale 8000 transmission oil cooler. Snap-in fitting worked great in the return side. Reasonably priced and quick shipping. Now I'll have to install a cooler in the daughter's van too! Thanks etrailer for the excellent support and products.

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler for 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe
For a towing application adding a supplemental transmission cooler to your 2008 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L V8 is an excellent way to reduce thermal stress and help prolong the life of your transmission. The OEM cooler (built into the radiator) is meant for normal driving but by itself it will not be able to match the combined cooling performance you'll get from a secondary unit. I recommend the Class III-rated Derale Series 8000 cooler # D13503 and Radiator Adapter Fitting # D13035 which avoids...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2007 GMC Yukon Denali
The transmission cooler part # D13504 would be exactly what you need. This is a large cooler that would work well for your 2007 GMC Yukon Denali. I attached an install video that shows it being installed in a very similar 2009 Yukon as yours. Your engine temperature doesn't really seem that bad at all. But the transmission cooler will help slightly with that since it will allow the factory transmission cooler to run cooler as well which is connected to the radiator. Also the transmission...

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler with Fan for 2012 Chevy Suburban
I spoke with my contact at Derale and he said that your 2012 model Chevy Suburban 1500 uses 1/2 inch transmission lines so the Derale Hyper-Cool Transmission Cooler # D13960 won't be the best option. For your Suburban you will instead want the Derale Hyper-Cool # D15960 which is essentially the same cooler with fan but designed to work with the 1/2 inch lines. An adapter isn't needed as the compression fitting that comes included with this cooler should work perfectly. A transmission...

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler for 2006 GMC Yukon XL Denali
You are wise to install supplementary transmission cooling for your 2006 GMC Yukon XL since transmission fluid temperatures of 250-degrees Fahrenheit will otherwise certainly shorten its lifespan. I suggest the Derale # D13504, a high-efficiency Class IV cooler, for your 6.0L. You will also need adapter fitting # D13035 to install it. A video is included to show you the process.

Hey Rob, we have confirmed with Derale that the transmission cooler part # D13504 does fit your 2015 GMC Yukon. You will also want the hose fitting adapter part # D13035 to make the install a bit easier as well. Will you be doing some towing?

  • What are the Measurements of the Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting, # D13035
I went out to the warehouse and pulled a Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting, # D13035, to take some measurements for you. The overall length is 2 inches. The larger flare is approximately 0.48 inches in diameter and the smaller flange is 0.43 inches in diameter. The diameter of the main body is 0.37 inches. And finally the diameter of the opening on either end is 0.27 inches. I produced a picture that shows the dimensions for you.

  • Best Transmission Cooler for a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with 6.2L V8 Enigne
For a transmission cooler that will work well in your 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 6.2L V8 engine, I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13504. The Derale Series 8000 is going to install in front of the ac condenser and behind the grille. It is 11" wide x 12" tall x 7/8" deep which is plenty for your transmission so long as you are on the open road and not in a lot of stop and go traffic. If you do find yourself in a bunch of stop and go...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2010 Chevy Avalanche LTZ
Hey David, so the best option would be to utilize the current cooler you have now and then go with an additional one that installs down stream of it to get maximum cooling power. I would go with the part # D13504 that you referenced for that application and you'd be in a great spot. You'll also want to use the fitting adapter part # D13035 to make the install a little easier as well.

  • Can 2004 Chevy Trailblazer Tow 3700 lb GVWR Travel Trailer
The max towing capacity of your 2004 Trailblazer will depend on whether it's a 2WD or 4WD and upon the rear axle gear ratio. According to the owner's manual, the capacity ranges from 4800 lbs for a 4WD EXT with the 6cyl engine with the 3.42 rear end up to 6800 lbs for the 2WD EXT with the 3.73 rear axle. Since the 3700 lb GVWR is well below the minimum 4800 lb towing capacity of the Trailblazer, theoretically you could tow the 2017 Jayco 17RB Hummingbird you speak of, assuming the vehicle...

  • Transmission Fluid Cooling Options for a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado with 6L80 Transmission

They can provide greater cooling for your transmission fluid however, if you find yourself sitting in traffic quite often then you would want to go with a standard mount transmission cooler. The 3000 lb rating for the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System refers to any load carried in the cargo area of the vehicle and applied to the rear axle, not the towing capacity. The only effect that towing would have on the Timbren system would be any tongue weight exerted on the vehicle by the trailer. The tongue weight (or downward force exerted on the trailer ball) would typically be 10 to 15 percent of the weight of the trailer plus the weight of anything loaded on it. If you are...

Hey David, the Derale transmission cooler part # D13504 with the fitting adapter # D13035 would be what you'd want for your 2005 GMC Yukon XL. This is a larger size cooler in the plate fin cooler style so it will do a great job keeping the trans temps down. For your brake controller install you would have to hardwire your brake controller wires to the wires of your Yukon XL. There isn't a way to use a quick connect connector to what you have.

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation For 2008 GMC Sierra w/ 6.0L Engine For Towing
We can get your 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD set up with a new auxiliary transmission cooler to get the lowest temperature possible when towing, and you're right that a smaller cooler won't provide the best temperature control. Because you cannot over-cool fluids, the rule of thumb with transmission coolers is that size matters so I recommend a large cooler from Derale, and you'll also need fittings: - Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13504 - Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter...

Transmission coolers like the Derale # D13503 that fits your 2013 Chevrolet Silverado with 4.8L V8 engine using adapter # D13035 are given a class rating to help customers select one. Because we are in the towing industry, our customers are used to seeing Class ratings on their trailer hitches, so this is an easy way to alert the customer as to which cooler is the most efficient for their towing needs. Therefore we use the Class rating to let customers know that if they have a Class II...

Transmission and oil coolers are given class designations since we are in the towing business and those who tow are used to seeing class designations on hitches, ball mounts, etc. The idea is to give a general idea of the cooler's capacity, so if your vehicle has a class III hitch then a class III cooler should be fine. However, since coolers are NOT vehicle-specific you can use as large a cooler as you have space to mount it. There are various types of coolers and they can be either...
