Question:

A weight distribution system would be fine. I have 350 tongue weight and 4700 lbs max out trailer weight. Which system would you suggest?

The 3000 lb rating for the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System refers to any load carried in the cargo area of the vehicle and applied to the rear axle, not the towing capacity. The only effect that towing would have on the Timbren system would be any tongue weight exerted on the vehicle by the trailer. The tongue weight (or downward force exerted on the trailer ball) would typically be 10 to 15 percent of the weight of the trailer plus the weight of anything loaded on it.

If you are trying to eliminate sag caused when a trailer is connected to the vehicle, a weight distribution system would be more effective at eliminating sag than the Timbren system. If you would care to respond with the fully loaded and ready-to-tow weight of your trailer, I would be happy to make some specific recommendations for you.

Lets begin with the weight of the trailer. According to my research, the towing capacity of the Rendezvous is 3500 lbs when properly equipped, according to Buick. You should confirm the towing capacity by referring to your owners manual. The use of a weight distribution system will not over ride this capacity, your capacity will be limited to the capacity of the lowest rated component in the towing system. You should make absolutely sure that the fully loaded and ready-to-tow weight of the trailer does not exceed the manufacturer stated towing capacity of the vehicle. When operating close to the maximum towing capacity, I would strongly recommend installing a transmission cooler like part # D13501. A transmission cooler is cheap insurance that will help protect your transmission. A snap-in radiator adapter fitting, like part # D13035 would also be needed. The first step in choosing the correct weight distribution (W/D) system is to determine the actual as-towed tongue weight of your trailer. Anything stowed in the cargo area behind the rear axle should be included as tongue weight. For best performance, the tongue weight of the camper should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the system you choose. For a trailer with a 350 lb tongue weight, I would recommend the Reese Trunnion Weight Distribution System, part # RP66540. This system is effective on trailers with tongue weights ranging from 200-600 lbs. The weight distributing shank is included, but the appropriately sized hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch threaded shank is sold separately. For a 2 inch ball, use part # A-90.
