Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2007 GMC Yukon Denali

Question:

I just got back from towing my travel trailer 6000 lbs from OK to MO through the ozark mountains and both engine temps and trans temps were too high in my opinion. Trans hit 226 twice and averaged about 215-220. Engine stayed about 220-245. It was 100 degrees both ways and pulling pretty steep grades. What would you recommend to bring these temps down. It has a trans cooler on it but it probably needs to be upgraded. Which one would you recommend? Would this help the engine temp at all? Tow vehicle is 2007 yukon denali 6.2 awd.

The transmission cooler part # D13504 would be exactly what you need. This is a large cooler that would work well for your 2007 GMC Yukon Denali. I attached an install video that shows it being installed in a very similar 2009 Yukon as yours.

Your engine temperature doesn't really seem that bad at all. But the transmission cooler will help slightly with that since it will allow the factory transmission cooler to run cooler as well which is connected to the radiator. Also the transmission bolts to the engine which would radiate heat to it so keeping it cooler will help in that context as well.

Question:

Thank you for your response and recommendation for the D13504 cooler. I watched the install video and I believe mine will be different. My guess is i remove the factory cooler and replace it with this one? ...or do I leave the factory one there and add this in addition? Will I need the D13035 fitting or extra hose? I will attach a somewhat okay picture of the fitting and existing cooler on the truck.

You would want to route the transmission fluid first through your factory cooler and then to the # D13504 to maximize the cooling efficiency of the fluid.

You would not need the adapter # D13035 since your factory cooler is not part of the radiator after all.

I changed the install video attached to this page to one that shows a cooler being installed on a GM SUV like yours that does have the cooler setup like yours.
