Use this tester to check the connection between your tow vehicle's 7-pole, blade-style connector and your brake controller. Tester emulates trailer to confirm connectivity. LED lights illuminate to show each function is working.great little tester, I bought it to fix the messed up wiring job that the "mechanics" at "best Rv" in Turlock , Ca. did to my truck and brand new Rv, then said good to go and sent me on my way. coming over the grapevine south on I5 I noticed my brakes were coming on with my lights( turn signal and 4-way). totally messed up my truck. after purchasing this little tester I was able to repair their screw-up in no time. once I had the truck fixed I plugged in the trailer to the truck and repaired that mess. great little tool. I have used it a couple times helping out some other RVers also. works great every time. the only thing to be sure of is make sure you plug it in all the way (look for the power light.).
Works perfectly with our 2023 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E and REDARC Tow-Pro Liberty trailer brake controller used to tow our 2023 Casita 17 Liberty Deluxe travel trailer. Our previous Curt tester wasn't able to test the brakes, only the basic lights. This Tekonsha tester actually emulates a trailer with electric brakes and our brake controller indicator behaves exactly like it would if trailer were attached instead of the tester.
Great tool to check out rental trucks' electrical connections before towing a trailer.
However, I had to add adhesive labels (black letters on white background label tape) to be able to read the identification of each LED. (Molded-in letters are unreadable without a 100 watt light bulb!)
I use it weekly as I am a trailer repair person. Works GREAT!!!!!
After trying others, this product was the only one that worked perfectly. It simulates a connected trailer.
A must have when working on trailer 7 pin connection’s.
Excellent Product. Easy to use. Good Instructional Video Available. Good inventory availability and prompt shipment from ETrailer.com
Delivery was a day or two longer than expected - but we’ll within provided range. The tester worked exactly as advertised - and I used it on a Hopkins Flex Mount brake controller - not Prodigy. Instructions were only for Prodigy but the light configuration was correct. This saved me a lot of anxiety for when I will pick up a rental trailer!
Ordered because of trailer brake troubles on the road. Problem was found by similar device at Ford dealership so decided to get one for my truck. Received today and ran test to get baseline for an operational system on the F-150 worked similar to one Ford issues but a lot cheaper.
This tester has allowed me to set up trailer brake controller prior to picking up our new to us used travel trailer. Since then, i have helped and tested several other peoples tow vehicles to work out wiring problems for towing trailers. It is a great tool and the brake control test circuit is worth the extra money.
This device makes it easy to check all connections at once and with out a meter, and you can check things by yourself. I appreciated being able to check the function of my brake controller without having to hook up my trailer.
Works as advertised, though not able to completely emulate a trailer for my 2015 Ford F-150 - the instructions have a clearly worded warning that this might occur. The labels on the LEDs are tiny black letters on a black body - kind of hard to see with so little contrast. Also, be mindful of the position of the LEDs and whether the lights will face up or down when plugged in to the tow vehicle. In my case, the lights are facing the ground, making it a bit more difficult to diagnose. That's a factor of how the factory installed the outlet in my truck and how Tekonsha built the Emulator. Perhaps there's a different 7-way emulator that would have had the lights on top when installed in my particular truck, but it's not a problem and the product works just fine. There's no changing anything - I just have to bend down to look upwards at the LEDs. All that said, it does what it needs to do and it's great to be able to check for proper operations before hooking up the trailer - and especially handy if there's a problem and a need for some troubleshooting.
Love this product. I do a lot of towing, and in my experience the 7 pin connectors are the most temperamental. Having a tester that you can quickly plug into the tow vehicle to verify all circuits are operating properly is invaluable. I am able to test the trailer electric brake circuits, as well the positive lead wire to boat trailers with disc surge brake systems which locks out the trailer brakes when reverse gear, It is a great safety check. A real time saver, Purchased this model for each of my tow vehicles, always in the glove box for a quick check before hitting the road.
Worked exactly as expected. Buyers should understand that this not simply a signal tester, but a break emulator as well. In other words, it "pretends" to be a trailer with electric brakes: it allows the brake controller to apply braking voltage, presents a load to the controller, and sinks braking current so the controller believes a real set of brakes is present . I drove around for a bit with the emulator plugged in, and was able to see my controller (Tekonsha P-3) working. This will have a permanent home in the vehicle for future troubleshooting.
Appears to work as advertised. I am having trouble isolating a problem with my electric brakes on my trailer and this tool enabled me to determine that the problem does not lie with the vehicle or brake controller. It will be handy to use as a test before/during long road trips. I have to say however that the way it was shipped was not satisfactory. No packaging material inside the box to absorb the shock of shipping. It got knocked around enough that the tool packaging was partially open. Not too cool for an electronic device.
This was received in Etrailer's usual expeditious time line. The emulator blade is high quality and performed exactly as described by etrailer. The wiring for a 1999 Ford F350 with a Tekshona braking unit is difficult to follow and this makes it much easier to detect miswiring . Anyone who tows should have this in their bag.
I originally bought from etrailer because of their helpful online website advice. However they provide excellent products and service. I have yet to be disappointed after several purchases. They are on my "favorites" list for both advice and their products and I use them without hesitation.
This worked as advertised. I have an Audi Q7 and wanted to check out the circuitry and pairing of my RF Tekonsha brake controller. The simulated load worked well, and the circuit checks (LED lighting) was good. Recommended.
Had I puchased this years ago, I would have saved hours troubleshooting my truck when the problem has been with the trailer. Having been through several truck side adapters due to damage from a trailer cable that was to short, would have been great to help verify installation and saved many blown fuses from testing the connector with a meter from shorting between ground and the left turn. And it verifies the brake controller too. When plugged into the connector in the bed of the truck, I can see the lights from the cab which makes it reaaly quick to verify wiring.
Did exactly what it's suppose I tried a cheaper version of the "TowReady" and it will not test the brake controller. The Tekonsha "Emulator" will along with every other function on a 7-pin connector. With the 6562 installed, you can drive and watch the brake controller working. I dont know why Tekonsha didnt put a "lock" on the device to make sure it stays in for test-driving the vehicle with it installed. A minor issue.
I highly recommend the 6562 for the ultimate in 7-pin testing with a brake controller installed.
I bought the emulator because I plow and have a back up warning buzzer in the cab. Since I have a salt spreader on the back, the alarm goes off every time I put the 2013 f350 truck in reverse. Plugging in your trailer emulator tricked the system into believing there is really a trailer on the back of the truck. No more alrm!! exactly what I was looking for.
Disappointed that it does not check 12 volt for trailer battery without trailer connected. The whole reason to own this is to check all functions without trailer connected.
Device worked as advertised. I can test my trailer brake connection without having to connect the trailer (a 32 foot camper) itself. It helped me isolate an issue with the brake voltage regulator inside the truck and not the trailer itself. Well worth the money
Great device. It made installing the 7 way plug much easier, particularly since this plug was being installed on an older vehicle that was not prewired. I could easily verify that each connection was made, without having to use my multi-meter and probes each time.
My trailer hitch caused the lights on the tester to be facing down when plugged in. This is really not an issue as the lights are bright. I use it to test my installation, worked great.
I installed and checked all my trailer connections and everything
worked perfect. I connected my trailer cable and my lights and
brake controller worked fine.
