  • Disc Brakes
  • 2 Inch Ball Coupler
  • 7500 lbs GTW
  • Bolt-On
  • Electric Lockout
  • Straight Tongue Coupler
  • Dexter

Use this actuator to synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow-vehicle brakes. Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on 2" hitch ball. Designed for hydraulic disc brakes and 3x5 straight tongue.

Features:

  • Hydraulic actuator activates trailer's brakes when tow vehicle slows or stops
  • Electric reverse lockout lets you back up without actuating trailer brakes
    • Solenoid activates automatically when you shift into reverse
  • Low-profile coupler latch ensures easy, secure connection
    • Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on hitch ball
  • Aluminum master cylinder is better at reducing corrosion than cast steel master cylinders
  • Zinc plating offers excellent corrosion resistance
  • Bolt-on installation
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: hydraulic disc brakes
  • Ball size: 2"
  • Mounting: 3" x 5" straight tongue
  • Capacity: 7,500 lbs
  • 2-Year limited warranty

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Exactly what I needed. Didn't require the outer housing, the insider mechanism slid in nicely as a replacement on my trailer. The etrailer videos for installation and bleeding were very helpful.

Perfect fit. I had to notch one corner where my wiring came out of the box tubing. Really nice compared to the original that was on there

Review from a similar DX7.5L in Brake Actuator

I slipped this into my boat mate trailer for 2001 moomba. Took about an hour to hook up and bleed the system with a buddy. Works great! If you can use simple tools and are mechanically savvy this is a no brainer.

Review from a similar DX7.5L in Brake Actuator

Worked great, replaced an old Atwood, welded in where the old one was cut out. Minor modification to the brake line, easy to bleed master cylinder and then bleed brake system. Coupler is extremely easy to use.

Review from a similar DX7.5L in Brake Actuator

Paul is awesome!!
I was very pleased
with the way he handled the order. I was going to order it online but he suggested that he could possibly have it delivered in 3-4 days. Actually it was delivered in 24 hours.
I thought [other retailers] were quick about deliveries till I ordered from etrailer.
The coupler and the brake actuator fit perfectly and definitely was a great replacement from the Atwood coupler.
Thanks. Paul.

  • Does The Dexter DX7.5L A-160 Brake Actuator W/ Electric Lockout DX56FR Work On A Tandem Trailer?
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout - Bolt On - Disc - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7.5K # DX56FR you were looking at is confirmed to work with tandem axle trailers like yours, and is a great option as long as your trailer uses disc brakes. • DX56FR Brake Actuator Compatibility with 6,000 lb Disc Brakes
Yes, you will have no problem using the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 7,500 lbs Brake Actuator item # DX56FR. The weight rating is for gross weight and tongue weight and the stronger actuator will work perfectly fine with your current disc breaks. Going up in strength is a way better option than drilling through your tongue or rerouting brake cables.

  • Can the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout be Used With Swing Away Tongue
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX56FR is designed to mount on a 3" x 5" straight tongue. In order to make this work for your trailer, you would need to use a flexible brake line since the actuator and line will be folding away. I have attached a video review as well as a link to all of our brake lines for your reference.

  • Weight Capacity and How Dexter DX7.5L Brake Actuator Installs on Trailer Frame
Yes, the Dexter Axle Brake Actuator Coupler part # DX56FR is good for towing a trailer up to 7,500 lbs so it would easily work on yours rated for up to 3,520 lbs. This will fit on a straight tongue that is measures 3 inches wide by 5 inches tall. This would fit on top of your current tongue as well and installs by bolting on. Installing it in place of a top mount style coupler would be no problem.

Yes, you can weld on the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout - Bolt On - Disc - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7.5K item # DX56FR you referenced. You will want to make sure you remove the zinc coating and get down to the bare metal. I have attached a couple of diagrams I made with the dimensions on both actuators.

The difference is the trailer tongue size the coupler was designed to fit. As long as your trailer has a 3" x 5" trailer tongue then the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX56FR will replace your Titan Aero 6000 Coupler. • How to bleed the brakes on a surge brake actuator on boat trailer
When bleeding the brakes on a surge actuator, such as the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX56FR, you want to start by making sure there is fresh fluid in the reservoir then press a screw driver against the rod in the access hole to pump the brakes.
