    • Other end plugs into the back of your electric brake controller

Installation of Curt Brake Controller Adapter

To install your Curt electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. For most applications, this harness is located beneath the dash, near the center console.

No hardwiring is required to install this adapter. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

The Curt wiring adapter was fine, however our coach was not wired with a plug in the harness, so installation required a little wiring work to complete. No big issue, the product was great

by:

Everything was as described. Easy easy installation in 10 minutes. Not the top of the line controller but it's all I need. Very fast shipping as well. Couldn't be more happy with etrailer. I will be purchasing my fifth through etrailer soon!

by:

Great job came on time. Installed easily. Works great. Better still is the service from etrailer. New what I needed for my truck. Deserves repeat business

by:

Easy to install. Very happy withth it.

by:

Easy install.

by:

Plugged right in to my expeditions factory plug quick easy install.

by:

Excellent. Perfect fit, exactly what was needed. Connected the Curt C51110 Brake control to factory wiring. Only thing that could make it better is if it came with someone to plug it in for me and save me 10 seconds.

The products worked great up until about a few weeks ago Thats when I sold the truck where the items were installed. lol. Really though, I very much liked how the products listed and purchased from etrailer.com were easy to find, fit exactly as described, and performed as needed. etrailer.com is always one of the first places I look when searching for items for my new truck.

by:

Made installation a snap. Just mount the break controller, plug one end into the vehicle's factory plug and the other end into the break controller.

so far so good. no issues.

We purchased our new Ford Explorer with the towing package but the dealership said it didn't come with a trailer brake controller and nothing was made for our SUV so we would have to get an aftermarket controller and have them run the wiring. After looking online I found a video on etrailer.com and it was just as easy as the video to install, the hardest part was finding the Ford plug under the dash, very happy with this product and ready to haul our RV everywhere.

by:
2004 Ford F-150

This is well worth the money. The cord ends appear to be high quality and fit the wiring connectors on the truck and brake controller perfectly. It makes hooking up your new Curt brake controller as easy as plugging in a cord. The only way to make this any easier is to have someone do it for you. The hardest part of the whole installation was finding the factory connector to plug this cord into. Hint: On my 2004 Ford F150, the brake controller connector was just above the factory diagnostic port underneath the dash.

by:
2017 Land Rover Evoque

Made installation in a Land Rover Discovery Sport a breeze! Note: This option isn’t listed on either Curt or eTrailer, but it is absolutely an option if you have the factory installed OEM trailer tow package. Your factory tow package must be dealer activated in your vehicle’s software to use the quick connect harness shown here.

Total plug and play. Zero cutting, splicing or tapping required! Fantastic.

TIP: Select your model year and Land Rover Evoque (Shares the same chassis and tow electrics as the Discovery Sport) if you want the right part numbers for your quick connect options.

by:
2010 Ford Expedition

This cable made the job very easy. took 10 minutes to plug in and mount with Curt Venturer Brake Controller. Very inexpensive solution. This is an old vehicle (2001 Expedition) and didn't want to put a lot of money into a brake controller setup. These parts and directions from the website made it quick, easy and inexpensive. I have not towed with the controller yet.

by:
2010 Ford Explorer

Product worked liked a charm!! I have a 2010 Ford Explorer XLT, and the Curt brake controller with the factory adapter cable was a perfect fit!

Note: Even though it doesn't specifically say on the etrailer website, the adapter connector WILL fit a 2010 Ford Explorer that has a Factory Tow package installed. The factory connector is located next to the steering column underneath the kickboard. It is kinda of hidden away, but it's up and next toe the brake pedal switch connector.

by:
Land Rover LR4

Installed it on my LR-4. The dual axle Alum Trailer (Aluma) works great so far! Only a few Land Rover dealerships will install the trailer Brake system. Trailer dealers want touch Land Rovers?? That's why 4 stars. $350 to get it installed!! LR Fort Worth,Texas

Allegro

After a little research by the etrailer team it was determined this was the correct cable for a 2013 Tiffin Allegro with a pre wired 7 pin plug to go itch the Curt controller. The team worked and researched and was great with customer service.

by:
2000 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty

I purchased this along with the Curt C51140 controller and 7 way harness to replace the mess that was spliced in on my truck when I bought it. Don't bother with splicing your controller in. Buy this harness, plug it in, don't look back. Service was great.

by:

Perfect fit very easy to install

by:

I HAVE RECIEVED AND INSTALLED THE TRAILER BRAKE /WIRE HARNESS AND THE 7 PIN TRAILER LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND ALL IS WORKING PERFECT. VERY EASY TO UNDERSTAND INSTRUCTIONS AND INSTALLATION. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.!!!

by:

A match to factory electrical fittings etrailer sales staff know their products. Pig tail was used in installation of trailer break. Joel in Iowa

by:

Wiring adapter and trailer brake controller work flawlessly. Took about 5 min to install.

by:

Wiring Adapter worked great. Hooked up like it was supposed to and is good quality. DON'T use the super cheap shipping if you're in a hurry. It's 5.5 hour drive from my house to the etrailer warehouse, but they shipped it from one side of MO to the other, then flew it to OH and back to me in IN. Ended up being 1 week from order to delivery.

by:

Its been a year and there have been no problems with the Wiring Adapter for Trailer brakes. I'm happy with the service and the product.

by:
2000 Ford F-150

When I ordered this I wasn't sure how the quality of the controller would be and more importantly if the wire adapter would actually fit my truck.
I am most pleased to say the least! Everything was what I had hoped and installed in less than 10 minutes. The end result is a factory look and after hooking up my travel trailer the brakes work like a dream!

  • Recommended Brake Controller for Roadmaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes
Hi Jerry; you don't need a specific brake controller for the Roadmaster Tow Dolly # RM-2050-1. Any electric brake controller will work. My personal recommendation would be the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR. This brake controller is simple and reliable. The main unit installs behind the dash with only the control knob visible so it doesn't take up space in the cab. You will also need the # RED69FR for installation. There may be a custom wiring harness for your vehicle,...

Yes, the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers part # C51322 will allow you to use a Curt brake controller like the Curt Spectrum Trailer Brake Controller part # C51170 on a 2020 Ford Explorer (All Models). I checked with Curt just to confirm that the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers is indeed correct for a 2020 Ford Explorer so you can be confident this is the correct harness. • Recommended Brake Controller for a 2018 Thor Ace Motorhome
For your 2018 Thor Ace Motorhome, I recommend using the Curt Spectrum Trailer Brake Controller part # C51170. The reason for this is because this unit is composed of two main parts, the control box and the output knob. The control box gets mounted out of site and then the output knob will get installed up on your dash for easy use and a very aesthetically pleasing look. The color output of the knob also helps with ease of use. Since your motorhome is on a Ford F-53 chassis, you can use...

  • Parts Needed to Add 7-Way and Brake Controller to 2007 Ford F-150 with 4-Way
If your trailer does not have brakes all you would need is the part # 37185 as an adapter to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. If you do have trailer brakes you would need the # 3035-P, the # 37185, and a brake controller. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to set up. Follow the 4-way trailer connector wires from the trailer connector to the front...
