The Curt CrossWing Lightweight 5th Wheel Hitch packs heavy-duty strength into a setup you can lift and install by yourself. It’s rated for 20,000 lbs gross towing weight with a 5,000-lb vertical load limit, yet the hitch weighs only 60 lbs—about 65% lighter than most traditional hitches. Built from premium steel with a reinforced head connection point, it delivers the same rugged hauling power you’d expect from a full-size hitch without the back-breaking weight when you need to remove it.

Hitching up is simple thanks to the open-faced head design and wedge-style coupler that bolts around your trailer’s king pin. The wide funnel shape gives you a clear view of the contact surface right from your cab—even easier if you’re using a 3rd-brake-light camera. This design cuts down on high pinning and guesswork, letting you glide straight into place and lock in with an easy-to-reach handle.

Long hauls feel steadier with Curt’s ShockDrop technology built into the pivot point of the hitch head. The durable polyurethane isolator absorbs bumps, vibration, and surge between truck and trailer so the ride stays quiet and controlled. It reduces strain on your towing setup while keeping handling consistent over uneven pavement or rolling terrain.
Getting level towing is simple with three height settings ranging from 16-3/8" to 20-3/8" and a built-in 5" offset for added cab clearance when turning. The fully articulating head allows fore, aft, and lateral movement so you can hitch up even on uneven ground. That extra flexibility helps keep your trailer steady and your setup dialed in no matter where you park or camp.
The included Curt OEM Fifth Wheel Adapter Rails drop right into the puck receivers of the factory-installed prep package. Quarter-turn anchors secure the base in place fast so you can get hitched up or remove it in minutes. The carbide black powder coat fights off rust and corrosion, keeping everything looking sharp trip after trip.

Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Curt CrossWing Lightweight Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch. This hitch is going to mount into your truck bed so that you can tow your fifth wheel trailer hitch. Like most fifth wheel hitches, this is going to have a place for you to hook up your king pin from your trailer. What really sets this hitch apart is just how lightweight it is.
So this top portion here is actually going to be mounted onto your king pin on your trailer, so if you we're to ever need to remove your fifth wheel hitch from your truck bed, so that you would have more clearance if you're hauling other things that you wanna put in the truck bed. This is only gonna weigh about 62 pounds, about 61.5 pounds, which is ridiculously light for a fifth wheel hitch. I can't imagine any other fifth wheel hitch being able to pick up that easily. Typically it takes a couple people to move or you've gotta disassemble it, break it into smaller parts or use a hoist to lift it up out of your truck bed. So this being sixty one and a half pounds is gonna make it super convenient to take out of your truck bed if you ever need more clearance and if you're the kind of person that is towing frequently but then also using your truck bed, so you need that clearance.
This is gonna be a great option for you. Kind of standalone in the industry right now at how lightweight this is and yet it's still gonna do a really good job for you. It's gonna connect to your base rails with an installation kit that is sold separately. It's compatible with B&W, Curt, Demco, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese and Valley, Above Bed, Base Rails, so pretty much the industry's standard, any of those will work to get this mounted onto your truck bed and then they include the pins and clips to get it secured in place. It's got a sturdy steel construction with a durable carbide powder-coat finish so it is gonna give us a 20,000 pound gross towing weight and a 5,000 pound tongue weight.
We do also have four inches of height adjustment here. So if I undo this center bolt, I can take that out and can show you we've got several different settings for our head unit, so we can raise it up like there and there, so we've got height adjustment from sixteen and three eights of an inch up to twenty and three eights of an inch, so it's going to accommodate a lot of different setups so that you can make sure that you are gonna be towing your fifth wheel trailer properly. This does have an articulating head, so as I've mentioned, this portion here is going to actually attach to the king pin on your trailer, so you've got a couple of bolts here that will pass through once you get this just slid in place. You've got the plastic lube plate here to ensure that nice smooth king pin rotation, that's gonna sit on your king pin can prevent it from falling off with those bolts going through the top or on the sides there. So when you're going to hook up to your trailer, this is gonna be sitting on your king pin and then your hitch will be in your truck.
So you'll just back up and it's gonna be very easy to get that lined up and one of the really nice things is once this touches, you'll know that you're lined up properly and then you can get out and lower your jacks on your trailer. You get that sled right into place, then you've got this handle here that you just slide in, push in, turn, and then it's nice and firmly connected. You've also got the locking pin here for a little extra peace of mind that it's gonna stay in place but your head unit is gonna articulate side to side and front to back. So it's going to give you great control and coupling on uneven terrain. It's going to help eliminate your guesswork when coupling, being able to line that V-up like that, so very simple to get hooked up. We do have a cushioned isolator here that's going to give us our shock drop technology in between our head unit and our post. So that's going to help reduce our chucking and jarring for a much smoother towing experience. It's going to absorb some of that impact, prevent it from being sent up to our tow vehicle or our truck, or back to our trailer. This is going to have a five-inch offset from your king pin to your center of your hitch. So that's gonna provide some added turning clearance especially for those of you who have a shorter pickup truck beds and that's gonna be a really nice feature there and the handle is gonna be super easy to reach from the side of your truck. Very easy to undo that, like I said, it's as simple as pushing in, rotating and pulling out then you're just connected and you're ready to pull forward and away from your trailer when you're hooking up, get it all lined up lower your trailer, so it fits slides down into place. You can see we've got little push out there that's gonna fit into base spot there. Once that's all lined up, just push the handle in then rotate it forward and pull it back and then get your pin put in. So super easy to get hooked up. Like I said, kind of a standalone option here for those of you who want something that's gonna be really lightweight, easy to take out of your truck. This does come with a limited lifetime warranty. So if you we're to have any issues with it, you're more than welcome to reach out to us here at etrailer.com, but I don't think you're gonna have any issues. I think we're gonna be very, very pleased with this especially if you are gonna have to lift it if you've lifted any other fifth wheel hitch, you know they are bulky and very heavy. So this is a really nice option to remove when you need to. They do include instructions, especially for getting that height setting set up properly and making sure that everything is gonna be attached securely, so you don't have to worry as you're going down the road. But like I said, really nice option here for those of you who are going to be needing to take your fifth wheel hitch out of your truck bed especially on a frequent basis this is gonna be like no other. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

Took about 15 minutes to install. Heavy duty. Can't wait to pull with is
Super impressed with the Curt Crosswing hitch. It’s light enough for a child to handle. Coupling and uncoupling so far has been extremely easy. Takes up far less space than a traditional sliding 5th wheel.
we went on a 150-mile trip it performed great. I replaced a curt A16 fifth wheel
slider hitch. Easy to hitch I will post more later after more trips
I have only had it installed, I have not towed with it yet that's why ony 4 Stars. Installation went very well and fast.
Works great, heavy duty as you would expect from Curt. Installed this on my new truck with a Curt R20 slider and Curt A20 hitch head. Installation was easy and eTrailer delivery time was great as usual.
I recently switched to the Crosswing from a Curt Q16 slider hitch. I loved the Q16 other than the weight of it. My loaded trailer weight is around 11,500 pounds. The Crosswing is a very stout hitch, and is extremely easy to hitch and unhitch, even at slight angles. While towing, I have noticed that it is quieter than the Q16 and chucking was nearly eliminated. I have to make a fairly tight turn in my Cul-de-sac, especially if there are cars parked on the street which I always slid the Q16 back while turning. I was worried about this but had no problem making the turn. The truck and trailer were close to a 90 degree angle and I still had over 6 inches between the cab and the front cap (2019 Silverado 2500HD short bed). I would definitely recommend this hitch.
Fits like a glove. From the time UPS dropped it off it took 45 minutes to have it installed in the truck and we were hooked up to go camping, which we did! Thanks to the team for getting it shipped asap! 2020 Ram 2500 with the factory puck system.
This 5th wheel hitch is very good . Easy to use and easy to remove. 65 lbs 4 pins and it’s out of the truck bed.

Year of use very easy to hitch and unhitch. No problems and would recommend

Not very happy with this product. With the hitch mounted to this rail, you could feel the play between the rail and the hitch every time I braked or accelerated I ended up selling it at a severe loss. It will get you out of a bind, but if you are looking at this for long term, just buy the hitch made for the puck system.
The Curt Crosswing is wonderful. We pull a 10,000# trailer (well under the load limit for this hitch). Several things I like: 1. the ease of getting it in and out of my truck, it’s easily moved by one person (I’m 68 years old)— 2. The positive way it connects trailer to truck (this takes some getting used to, there is no “bang!” As the trailer pin slams home in a conventional fifth wheel… just a gentle glide of a lever once the hitch is in its “saddle”)- 3. Able to hookup/unhook at just about any angle… most recently I needed to unhook with the truck headed down a slight grade and angled at 45-50 degrees towards the curb side. No sweat!
The most often comments I get about the Crosswing goes something like: “That’s NOT a fifth wheel” or “I wouldn’t trust my trailer with that thing”… to each his own. The way I look at it is: Curt is a well respected hitch manufacturer who wouldn’t put their reputation at risk with an untested or “dangerous” design.
It’s different, yes, and in this case, that’s a good thing.

Two things have occurred to me over the past year: First, as I previously stated, this hitch is lighter than most any other “FW hitch” — light enough to be the target of “crimes of opportunity”. Easily enough rectified, Curt manufacturers a lock 23256 which offers some deterrence to theft. Second item, which may or not be an issue for others, pulling with our first, traditional FW hitch I made it a point to run our rig across a scale, GVWRGCWR was within limits. Recently we crossed another scale, I was surprised to see the GCWR had actually gone down, then I remembered the Crosswing… our previous hitch was HEAVY. Just a nice surprise.
Easy to install, took me about 45 minutes. Be sure to put your hitch in place before tightening the 8 bolts. It does sit pretty high so will need to adjust 5th wheel hitch to accommodate the extra height when compared to the older style bed rails.
I have a Curt A16 5th wheel hitch and a Curt gooseneck plate. Both of these fit perfectly. Definitely much cheaper than having to buy new 5th wheel hitch and new gooseneck ball for the puck system. Saved me about $1400
it fit perfectly in my RAM 2500 2022 , it reduce the height by 3.5 inch from my original roller Curt set up, since I have air suspension in the back I will simply said be careful when you disconnect because the back of the pick up spring upward when load is removed. The reason I switch was the high of the roller sytem and the puck was way too high for my fifth wheel.
Assembly was supper easy. Just like the previous one I had for GMC. This product has better handles. I have not towed with it yet. But should be good to go.
Heavy and well built. Great that I was able to use my Curt hitch when I bought a new truck with the puck system. Etrailer is a great company with great people. Fast shipping
I decided to order this adapter because I bought a new truck and wanted to use the 5th wheel I had. Fred at etrailer was a tremendous help. He took the time to go through everything and find the right one and explained it all very well. Believe me, I was very skeptical on ordering but Fred assured me this would work on my 2025 Ram. I was pleasantly shocked when I got it and everything went right into place. Very easy to install. Thank you so much Fred for all of your help!!
Hmm, where to start? The hitch itself is a dream come true, it's stable, lightweight but strong, pulls my 16K fifth wheel smoothly and does everything I could ask for. The issues that I have with it are the Torque and Re-Torque requirements from Curt themselves, the Dry Lube usage, and the rust spots that have appeared on it.
Manual says, "Torque to 300 foot lbs." Do you realize how much that is? I had to buy a special wrench just to get one that went that high! Unfortunately you have to Re-Torque the hitch bolt pretty much all the time, I mean I realize it's actually the only thing holding the hitch head to the body.... But sheesh!
The other thing the manual says is to apply Dry Lubricant to the head prior to usage . Dry Lubricant makes a heck of a mess, and when it dries it's white! Makes it look like a Seagull has been using the hitch as a nesting spot.
Finally, have had this hitch since February 2025, using it since April on about four trips and I'm already getting rust areas around the safety latch/pin area and the hitch saddle itself. The saddle rust is surface and not a big deal, (that thing is never gonna rust through no matter how many decades of use). The safety latch/pin is a bit of an "I'll keep an eye on that" concern.
In summary, this hitch is perfect for us. I used to have the big grey monster and just couldn't lift it out anymore. The Curt weighs about 60 pounds and it's so easy to remove and install in seconds versus what used to take my wife and I an hour or so and lots of pain meds after. Like I said, the hitch is rock solid, easy to hookup to and easy to disengage when we arrive at a campsite. It is my pleasure to be able to endorse this hitch and give it my highest recommendation.
I bought a 2023 Ram 3500 that had the factory pucks in it, so I needed this adapter so I could continue using my B&W Patriot hitch. This fit my truck perfectly and my hitch fits this adapter perfectly. Even better than it fit the rails in my old truck, actually. This does raise the hitch probably an inch higher that it was, so be aware of that. One part of the instructions is out of order. How to adjust the locking mechanism is at the very end. You need to adjust each one as you go. Other than that, it was very intuitive and easy to put together. I did use a little blue Loctite on the nuts, but that's me. This thing is beefy. I'm sure it will last a long time.
The CrossWing pulls great the issues are hooking up and unhooking. When you lift it off the hitch it isn’t smooth at all. When you hook it up it kind of falls in very hard. This isn’t a problem but the angle makes it tough.
It is what we needed for our new ram truck shipping was fast. And we had issues with ups but this company handled everything in a timely matter. Very happy with this purchase. Thanks for everything.
Every fast shipping. Arrives a day early than what it said when I ordered it. This is the second time I have ordered from them and both times order’s arrived on time or before. Will order from them again.
I traded my Curt 16k slider hitch for this new crosswing
It definitely moved my trailer back 5 inches and I do not see the need for the slide hitch I rarely used.
It is lightweight and easy to manage by yourself ( my old one was just too heavy )
The new hitch has nearly eliminated all of the chucking and bucking.

It is super nice how much easier it is to manage this one vs. other styles on the market. Really happy that this got rid of the chucking! We'd love a photo of the new set up if you feel like sending one in. I can add it to your original review :)

One later and Still love it, I switched trucks to one that has a puck system, but bought an adapter plate cause I really like the hitch. The only drawback is leaving the adapter on the camper. If you have to move it with something else you can always take the two bolts off and remove it.
I have my pickup bed back! I had a “removable” slider hitch that was heavy and cumbersome enough that I left it in the truck. I replaced it with the Crosswing and I now have a removable hitch. The way the hitch mounts and the curve of the trailer mean I don’t need a slider hitch anymore. Good riddance!
When I first purchased this hitch I was skeptical. Once I installed it, I was surprised about the weight and the easiness of putting it in and out of my truck. Since last year, I have towed my fifth wheel on 4 different occasions and am very impressed on how easy it is to hook up and how well it tows. The last time we went camping, I noticed another camper that had a bigger fifth wheel than I have and he had a Crosswing as well. I highly recommend this hitch.
Packaging was in great shape, arrived when trailer said it would, and it went together with ease! My Andersen 5th wheel hitch fits perfectly in the adapter, so we are all set!
Arrived on time and it was in perfect condition. Easy to put together, you do need a torque wrench that goes up to 300 foot pounds. Hitching up is very easy. I did a test tow and it was a huge improvement over my old curt a16 for a smooth ride. Looking forward to my next long trip with my new crosswing hitch. Thanks etrailer

Great traveled over 10,000 miles and no issues added a gen-y executive pin box and the trailer pulls great.
