Height Clearance w/ the Curt CrossWing Lightweight 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch

Updated 09/15/2025 | Published 09/06/2025

Question:

Hello, I have a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500hd Duramax with the 6.5 foot bed. I did my measurements to get the correct ride height for the hitch. However, its way below the lowest point on the Curt. I then went and measured my current FWH and its right at 16 inches from the top of the bedrail to the top of the FW plate where the rv sits. At the lowest point of the Curt is 16 3/8 inches. Is 3/8 of an inch going to cause problems?

Hey Rick. 3/8" is not going to be a deal breaker when using the Curt CrossWing Lightweight 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch item # C86JR. So long as you have plenty of clearance above your bed rails you'll be good.

To make towing with a 5th wheel easier, I recommend adding the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness item # C56000. This harness puts a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck and allows you to keep the one on your bumper. This makes hooking up to your 5th wheel trailer easier and more convenient.

What kind of 5th wheel trailer do you have?

Hi Jarred, I have a 2020 Grand Design Reflection 150 Series. I had the wiring harness installed in the bed from my previous 5th wheel. I towed with the CW this past weekend and it was great. My trailer had plenty of clearance all the way around. The hitch did exactly as advertised and made towing easier. Thank you, Rick
