Curt CrossWing C86JR - What Is The Torque Rating For The M20 Bolt
Updated 06/01/2026 | Published 10/20/2024 >
Question:
I saw in some installation videos that there is a bolt that must be torqued to 350 lbs. Does this bolt need to be removed and replaced every time the hitch is taken out or put back in the bed of the truck?

Hello Cynthia, thanks for reaching out. The Curt CrossWing Lightweight 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C86JR does have a M20 bolt that is torqued to 300 ft-lbs. This bolt will not need to be removed each time the hitch is taken out or put back in the bed of the truck. You would only need to remove the bolt if you were to disassemble the hitch. If the hitch was disassembled the bolt would need to be replaced.

Hey Jesse, I think I have a concern with the same bolt that goes perpendicular to the m20 height adjustment bolt and holds the lower weldment piece to the lower vertical height adjustment bar. I got mine used, this bolt seemed loose. But if I snug it even just to 100 ft-lb the part becomes very stiff/snug. Is this the bolt you referred to above that has the 300 ft-lb spec?

Hi Cynthia, how did things go with your Curt CrossWing hitch after learning the bolt only needs replacement when the hitch is disassembled? Your update could make it easier for others handling the same setup.
