Question:

I have a 2018 voltage 3605. It has the lippert 1621hd kingpin box. Im trying to find a shorter pin box with same weight rating. Im using a Anderson hitch now but have to turn it 180 degrees so I dont hit the bed rails of truck when I turn. The Anderson has a 4inch setback if in forward position. I want to buy the Curt crosswing that has a 5inch set back. What pin box would work in this situation?

A shorter pin box will reduce your turning clearance by bringing your trailer in closer so you don't want to do that. The longest pin box we have that fits a 1621HD bolt pattern is the Curt Air Ride 5th Wheel Pin Box item # LC158778. The center of the king pin sits 27-3/8" from the back mounting bolts and 19-1/2" from the front one.

The issue is that the Curt Air Ride 5th Wheel Pin Box item # LC158778 will not work with the Anderson because it's incompatible with gooseneck adapters. However, it is compatible with the Curt CrossWing Lightweight 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch item # C86JR that mounts to industry standard rails. If you're not using 5th wheel rails then disregard everything I have said about the Curt Air Ride 5th Wheel Pin Box item # LC158778 because you can't use it.

The Lippert 1621HD 5th Wheel Pin Box - 18,000 lbs item # LC1191151 you were looking at is our only other option for a replacement pin box and the king pin on it sits 25-5/8" from the back mounting bolts and 17-3/4" from the front ones. It works with gooseneck adapters and standard 5th wheel hitches that mount on rails or puck systems.

Will the lippert 1621SHD pin box replace the 1621HD.

@Jeromy Yes, it will fit but you won't gain the extra capacity. According to Lippert the only difference between the 1621HD and 1621SHD pin box is the HD has an 18,000 lb capacity and the SHD has a 21,000lb capacity.
