Recommended Parts for Flat Towing a 2025 Ford Maverick

Updated 07/22/2025 | Published 03/23/2025

Question:

Hello, I have a 2025 Maverick and want to set it up for flat towing. I would ike to use the Road Master Night Hawk tow bars with this base plate. Can you tell me if the base plate comes with the 6-pin connector, or does that have to be purchased separately. With this base plate/tow bar combination what do you recommend for tail lights, and battery charger? Thanks

Hey Steve, thanks for reaching out!

The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM87NQ fits your 2025 Ford Maverick as long as it's the Hybrid model that doesn't have the engine block heater. It doesn't come with the 6-Pin connector, but that's because the connector typically coms with the tow bar or the wiring.

Here are all the parts I recommend for your setup:

- Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM87NQ
- Nighthawk All-Terrain Tow Bar w/ LED Lights # RM-676
- Smart Diode Kit # RO44FR
- Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25
- Stop Light Switch Kit # RM87GR
- Brake Kit # DM86VR or # DM26VR depending on if your motorhome has hydraulic or air brakes
- High-Low Adapter (see attached article - bar height is 14-1/2")

I really like the Roadmaster lineup of towing equipment, and then the Demco braking systems just top it all off because they are simple and easy to use after the initial installation is done.

I'm attaching some videos for you to check out, just let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Jon I like the breakdown you gave Steve above. I have couple questions for you. I have a new gas motorhome with hyd. brakes. I have a new 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid Lariat ordered that will be here next week. I know the Demco baseplate that they gave me the part number for will not be available to ship for 6 weeks they told me. I will have to go with the Roadmaster one. I'm not going to wait and haven't seen pics of Demco anyway. Anyway - Your part number on Roadmaster shows RM87NQ. Roadmaster shows 524480-5. Same thing? They say wont work with block heater, mine has. Called them because they don't know where the plug in is at on the 2025 and could interfere with install. Move the plug in wire! Also would like to go with the E-trailer Tow bar E74ZR. Like the looks of that and non-binding. Have Falcon 2 now and binds all the time and getting to old for that push button release. Have RVI brake so I will use that. Have RVI charge line also. Will need Wiring kit for the LED brake lights in the 2025 Maverick. Guessing part# RO44FR What else am I missing that I need to order from you. I thought I seen a video on Baseplate install but find now. Do you have a link? Also on the wiring to the tail lights on Maverick? Thank you for your time. Jay L

@JayL Happy to help! Yes, the Roadmaster # RM87NQ baseplate is the same as the part 524480-5 on the Roadmaster website. We've had manufacturer part numbers crossover before, so we just make our own for our site to keep that confusion to a minimum. The etrailer Tow Bar # e74ZR is a great alternative, and the trigger-style release is extremely easy to use, so I definitely get what you mean there. The Smart Diode Kit # RO44FR is a great choice for LED lights as well, just as long as you can reuse the plug on your tow vehicle side and you have an umbilical to reach from the Maverick to your motorhome. If not, let me know what pinout the Maverick side needs and I'd be happy to let you know the part! As far as install videos go, I've got some videos on the Roadmaster wiring kits that use the standard diodes, but none so far on a Maverick using the smart diode kit. We don't have any videos on a baseplate kit yet either, unfortunately. Hopefully that's something we're able to get on our site in the near future though! When it comes to additional parts, you might need a high-low adapter (see attached article - bar height is 14-1/2"), the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM87GR if you need to use that function, and then some people like some protective parts like the Tow Defender # RM-4750 and etrailer # e76FV, but that's really all up to you.

Hi Jon So instead of the RO44FR wiring kit, Should I go with the RM38FR if I want to put a new coiled cord on? 7Pin at Motorhome and add this 6 Pin to Maverick. Unless there is a 7 to 7. This one with just the 2 diodes will make brake lights and turn signals work on the 2025 Maverick? Roadmaster shows 4 diodes? Do you suggest a better tow bar to use? Need easy as possible especially to release. Thanks, Jay

@JayL Good questions. I dug into this a little deeper and consulted one of the guys on our fitguide team and we've determined to drop the RO44FR kit from the fit list since Roadmaster says to use the standard diodes, so you'll want the kit # RM-15267 which will replace your coiled cord AND it comes with a matching 6-Way plug for your Maverick. This is my go-to universal wiring kit recommendation because of how reliable it is. The difference in the amount of diodes has more to do with the style of diode and how they function. To be honest, I don't have a different tow bar suggestion, especially when it comes to ease of use. I've messed with a handful of the leading brands and our brand has very easy release triggers - definitely a difference between how it works and how the Roadmaster and Blue Ox brands feel.

Hi Jon What happened to the video you guys had on line on the baseplate install on the 2025 Ford Maverick. I watched it once and went to watch it again and have during my install on the Road master base plate ordering from you guys. It was the same guy with the beanie from wiring video attached. https://www.etrailer.com/tv-install-roadmaster-universal-hy-power-diode-wiring-kit-2025-ford-maverick-rm-152.aspx Thanks, Jay

@JayL I'm not sure. I can't find it anywhere either, but when I was initially answering your question, it wasn't live so I haven't seen it at all.

I have a 2025 Maverick Hybrid but mine is equipped with the block heater. Does this pose an installation problem with the Roadmaster base plate? Need to know prior to ordering, thanks.

@Dale Yes, it does. I reached out to Roadmaster directly to see if they had a specific reason why, but they couldn't tell me. They just said that their tech notes showed it wouldn't fit if the Maverick has a block heater. I also reached out to Blue Ox, but they said they haven't tried this fitment yet so they don't have a way to verify fitment. For your situation, I recommend picking up a trailer to tow the Maverick on. It's possible someone might come out with a solution that fits with the block heater, but if you're wanting to get towing sooner rather than later, picking up a trailer that the Maverick can fit on will be the best solution since we don't know if/when a fitment might come out.

Hi Jon, I am installing the Demco electric brake controller on my '25 Maverick Lariat Hybrid. Can you tell me the options for installing the brake indicator light since the brake pedal does not have a switch? Is there a wiring option instead of installing a switch on the brake pedal? What about pressure regulator? Have heard that the '25 needs one installed. One more question, with the '25 Demco baseplate what tow bar option would you recommend? Thanks, Steve

@SteveB For the stop light switch you'll need the Kit # RM87GR. I went ahead and added that to the initial answer above as well. When Roadmaster dug around, they weren't able to find a wire that worked so you'll need their specific kit. For a tow bar that pairs with the Demco Base Plate Kit # DM38CV, I recommend the etrailer Tow Bar Kit # e34ZR. You'll also need a wiring kit which I recommend the Flexo-Coil Kit # RM-15267. Do you have any other questions?
