Question:
My wife and I travel several months a year towing our current vehicle. We are getting a new Ford Maverick Hybrid with a Lariat package. What base plate would you recommend? We also boondock on BLM land. We are towing with a Jayco Seneca XT 32U on a Ford F600 chassis if that makes a difference. Thank you

Hey Don, congrats on the new truck and thanks for all of the information! I recommend the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - item # RM87NQ. Roadmaster's baseplate kits and wiring set the standards for flat towing as far as quality and affordability. If you look at the pictures below you'll see how well hidden the baseplate is going to be when you're not flat towing your new Maverick. The brackets are blend in well behind the shutters once you remove the tabs that connect to the tow bar.
To flat tow a 2026 Ford Maverick Hybrid you will also need the following parts:
Tow Bar and Safety Chains - etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates item # e74ZR
Wiring Harness - Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles item # RM-15267
Supplemental Braking System - Curt RVi Series Shadow 2 Flat Tow Brake System item # RVI94FR. This system includes the required charge line you'll need to keep your Maverick's battery from dying on your trips. It also works great with the Maverick's hybrid brakes and is compatible with diesel motorhome braking systems. The convenient dash monitor gives you instant access to brake settings and voltage readings on your battery.
Please note you will also need the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit item # RM87GR with a permanently installed system like item # RVI94FR. This makes sure your braking system isn't applying when it's not supposed to during turns while you're braking.
High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.
How far out do you go when you boondock on BLM land? Do you ever run into people or do you just drive until you can't see anyone?

Don, I am not sure what exact concerns or questions you have about the package but I can tell you that mine involved installing the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms as a DIY project. This involved removing the front clip and grill and possibly drilling which on a newer vehicle was intimidating. I installed a very similar setup on a like-new 2020 Buick Envision. The same can be said about that braking system and tail light wiring. I am a automotive hobbyist and not a professional by any means but I found the printed instructions and tow vehicle specific videos very good…more than adequate. Jerred never steered me wrong and I’m glad I chose to diy as I now understand the system much better.

Hey Don, I Have been flat towing my 2022 Ford maverick behind my 2020 Winnebago View, 24D, with the 3.0L Turbo Diesel for the past 3.5 years. It flat tows like a dream. Originally had a older Blue Ox tow bar and a few months ago purchased the SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct from E-Trailer and really like it. It’s a lot lighter and very easy to connect and disconnect. The highlights of the tow bar are really well worth the investment…they include: • 6,000-lb Capacity: Handles most trucks and SUVs, with arms that lock in place as you pull forward. • Easy Hookup: Self-supporting arms hold themselves up, so connecting takes less muscle and guesswork. • Quick Disconnect: Non-binding levers release pressure fast, even on uneven ground or steep driveways. • Built-In Rise/Drop: 1-1/2" rise/drop plus 3" tilt keeps the tow bar level without extra adapters. • Integrated Safety Cables: 14,000-lb rated vinyl-coated cables stay organized and off the pavement. I purchased the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms that fit my 2022 Maverick from e-Trailer and did so because the Road Master Base Plate required no alterations/cutting the Maverick front grill/facia. The Blue Ox face plate required alterations and cutting of the front facia on my year Maverick. I installed the face plate myself with help from the e-Trailer videos on their web site. It took some time but was pretty straight forward if you are a handy man. For rear lights and turn signals, I purchased a TowMate TM21S Wireless Tow Light versus wiring in the Maverick Light to the RV. To power the light bar, I just ran a 12V wire/ground (with SAE Connectors – 20 ft Extension Cable-12awg - Amazon) from the front of the Maverick to a 12V USB Outlet Switch Panel Plug I mounted in the Maverick box near the LED light. Yes had to drill holes on the bed to mount the 12V socket (Socket had an LED Voltmeter Power Switch, Lighted 150W Cigarette Lighter Socket – Amazon). And found a 12V source on the RV to connect a short 12V wire with a SAE Connector to connect to the Maverick line I installed. Works great and the light bar has magnets on the base, so you’ll need to find a suitable attaching location. I installed sheet metal under the tonneau cover to the cover frame, so the light bar was easy to place on the back of the Maverick. Hope this helps.

I installed the roadmaster base plate, and the stay & play braking system in out 25 Maverick along with the diode kit for the lights, the charge line kit and brake light switch. We also got the SD Non Binding tow bar and it works great, its easy to hook up and the arms lock when you back up your tow vehicle and just as easy to disconnect. I'm very happy with all the products I got from etailer to tow our Maverick. I watched the videos online for installing these parts which was a great help for me as I installed these all myself as there was no one close to me that could have done it and I saved a lot of money doing it myself.

Hi, I bought the eTrailer SD non biding tow bar 2 1/2 years ago. The Jeep Wrangler S 2dr I bought just before it already had the base plate with brake controller already installed by the previous owner. It's been a great functioning unit and is a breeze to use with our motorhome. I have no concerns and I'd say we have used it for about 15K miles so far.

The SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates is working beautifully. We have some 17,000 miles in the couple of years we've had it. We travel to National and State parks up and down the west and inland. We took it all the way up the west coast of Vancouver Island. We tow a Honda CRV behind a Winnebago class C on a sprinter chassis. I hope this helps you
