Does 2016 Honda Pilot Need Tow Package to Add 7-Way, & 2 to 1-1/4 Reducer For Hitch

Updated 02/28/2022 | Published 02/24/2022

Question:

I am considering buying a 2016 Honda Pilot or Passport - I dont believe these have a tow package is that standard with a Pilot or Passport. Does this mean I dont have the connector that you show in your videos on installing the T-Connector Wire Harness, as I will be needing both the 4 pole to 7 pole for a camper trailer and brake controller. All your videos refer to the towing package, but does this connector on the drivers side at the tail exist if you dont have a tow package. What do I need then? I may have to install a 2 Class III Custom Tow Hitch for 2016 Honda Pilot. Two questions 1. Is there a Class II tow hitch for the Pilot - 1.25 opening? If not, is there an adaptor that converts the hitch opening from 2 to 1.25 so I can use my bike rack when not towing the trailer?

Good question, though your 2016 Honda Pilot does not need the factory tow package to add a 7-way, and the connector will exist under the Pilot even without the tow package. All you'll do is add a 7-way which states "for Factory Tow Package" but will work even if you don't have that because it comes with the necessary fuses to activate the tow package. What you'll need to add a 7-way to a 2016 Honda Pilot is the following:

- T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118286

To mount the # 118286 you will simply need the Mounting Bracket # PK12711U and No-Drill Bracket for Mounting Bracket # C57202. You'll need two because one of the brackets clamps around the hitch to give you an extension, and the other bracket screws into that. Both will fit the hitch for your 2016 Pilot, the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98840.

Finally, there is indeed a hitch reducer to turn the 2" hitch into a 1-1/4" hitch, which is the Hitch Adapter 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver # 80300.

To secure this to your hitch you will want the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98880.
