Features to know about

Reliable Trailer Lighting Without Overloading Vehicle Circuits: Powered Converter Design

The Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector draws power directly from the vehicle battery, not from the tail light circuits. That means the trailer lights get full, consistent power without putting extra load on your vehicle’s wiring. It’s a dependable way to keep your running lights, turn signals, and brake lights bright and trouble-free every time you tow.

Handles Complex Wiring Systems: Works with Pulse Width Modulation and LED Lighting

Modern vehicles use different wiring styles like Pulse Width Modulation or multiplex systems. This converter is built to handle those signals correctly and translate them for standard trailer lighting. Whether you’re connecting to LEDs or traditional bulbs, it sends the right signal every time so everything works together as it should.

Universal Fit for Flexible Installs: Splice-In 4-Way Connection

This harness is a universal splice-in setup that works on a wide range of vehicles. You simply connect the color-coded wires—yellow for left turn, green for right turn, red for brake, and brown for tail—to your corresponding light circuits. The included ground and power leads complete the system for a solid electrical connection.

Protects Vehicle Electronics: Isolated Power Circuit with Fused Battery Lead

By using its own fused power line straight to the battery, the harness isolates trailer load from sensitive vehicle electronics. That prevents voltage spikes or drain on the factory lighting circuits. It’s a simple but smart safeguard that keeps both your vehicle and trailer wiring safe from overloads or faults.

Ready to Tow with Standard 4-Flat Output: Simple Plug Connection for Trailer Lights

The 4-pole flat connector provides the basic trailer functions—running lights, brake lights, and turn signals—with one easy plug. Once installed, you can hook up most small trailers or hitch-mounted accessories with lights just by plugging in and going.

by:

The instruction sheet that comes with the wire harness for me was little help when installing. What really helped me was the e-trailer video on the installation on a 2026 Equinox. The video showed me step by step what to do to install the harness kit completely and the correct color-coded wires to attach together. It left no questions unanswered! Thank You! Gary

by:

Kit is good but adapting it to my vehicle is lacking info as the new blazer wiring diagrams are not available and having led tail lights the lights have internal flasher in each light. Waiting for more info from gm as they have no trailer wiring info for now.

by:

I’m giving this a 2 star because I suppose I am at fault as well, this converter is NOT for a 2019 Jeep compass it is simply a universal fit converter, so you have to splice it into your vehicle wiring… not what I thought I was buying. If you are buying a make and model specific hitch why would you not include the make model specific wiring harness as well. Guess I should have paid better attention, but honestly I was concerned more about the hitch at the time than the wiring so maybe it was an option I didn’t notice

by:

Although not specificly mentioned, it worked fine for my vehicle, 2026 Lexus 350H. I would suggest installing it prior to the hitch install to make wire routing easier.

by:

Converter comes with everything you need, except for instructions for how to install on a 2026 Subaru Outback. Because there was no information regarding the Outback, the wiring installation took longer than the hitch install. You need to have a volt/ohm meter to install this product.

Here is what you need to know: There is a connection for an OEM converter located in the spare tire compartment. It is between the latch and the left tail light. You won't be able to plug into it, but you can tap into the wires without running wires to the tail lights themselves. The trick is knowing what wires you need to tap into. The pictures below show how I did it for all but the power connection. While the blue wire does provide 12 VDC, I was not sure if it could handle the amperage of a trailer that did not have LED lighting. I opted to run the provided wire, with the fuse holder, along the underside of the car, all the way to the battery.

Here is the connector mapping I created with a volt meter:
Yellow |Violet| X | X | X |Green | X |
|L Turn| | | |Tail | |
----------------------------------------------
Blue |Green | Red | | X | |White|
12VDC |R Turn|12VDC| | |Brake | |
----------------------------------------------
X- no wire
The colors above are the colors of the wire going to the factory connector.

Some of the colors are very close to the same as others. To have enough room to install the taps you will need to peel off some of the electrical tape that wraps the bundle. I also removed the clip that attached the bundle to the sheet metal. Once the installation was completed, I reinstalled it.

by:

Have not had it installed yet. Some things have not arrived yet. No hitch with 2” Ball. No bolts with the trailer hitch.

by:

The first kit I received had a defective controller, however the etrailer customer service was exceptional, and they sent a new kit free of charge and it now works perfectly.

by:

Perfect fit for the hitch. Little effort to dissect the SUV to accommodate the bolts and torque wrench but I managed to do it myself. I'm only hauling bikes for now so haven't attempted to install the electrical components yet as I don't need to.

by:

I exchanged this with the factory plug, my car had the manufactures plug in connector ready, so e trailers have this too so just exchange it with the plug in curt harness which is easier than cutting in etc..

by:

Once properly installed, the wiring kit to connect the trailer lights to my vehicle did a fine job. Instructions were fairly clear, but some of the abbreviations were mystifying and undefined in the documentation. The least satisfactory part was the grossly oversized electrical connectors. The Ford EcoSport for which this kit was bought is equipped with extremely small gauge wires in the tail lights and two of the four connectors didn’t even pierce the insulation of the vehicle wiring. It was a quick fix once discovered, but mainly because this “wasn’t our first rodeo!”

by:

Unfortunate etrailer does NOT carry an adaptable version for my truck. This universal kit was way too complicated trying to decipher which wires to splice into, especially since the truck had a pigtail already which just needed a proper fitting to connect it. I returned it and used a much easier/cheaper 4-wire version from Walmart.

by:

This stuff works for my vehicle but did have to go to the dealership to get wiring harness that would work correctly with my vehicle

by:

I'll be vary care full about buying anything from etrailer in the future. I bought a $[XX] wiring kit that was advertised as fitting my van, but it didn't. then a $[XX] kit and was refunded $[XX] for the first kit. That's $[XX] for a wiring kit. I should have just gone to a local parts store. Live and learn.

by:

The converter itself is fine but annoyed that Curt could not have made the driver's side wires long enough to reach the taillight. Not the end of the world to have to add custom extensions, just wouldn't have to be done if 2 more feet was added to those leads.

by:

Good product and great follow-up service. I had a problem with the first shipment. The box broke and some hardware was missing. They sent the replacement hardware right away. The hitch is installed and ready to go.

by:

The video for installing in a 2023 telluride worked well for a 2027 telluride. The power wire was barely long enough. I installed planning to cut off both ends and only cut from one. It’s a challenging job with floor jacks instead of a lift but it’s doable if you have enough time.

by:

Install went great.Took about one hour, did not even get dirty. Used my own wire connectors because they are water proof. Watching the video was great help.

by:

Bought this for my 2015 jeep grand Cherokee because etrailer told me when I put in my car info that it was compatible. It's the wrong part completely

The # C59236 is a universal-fit harness that will work on just about any vehicle although it'll need to be spliced into place. For a plug and play option, use # C62VR.

by:

The video on e-Trailer was for a car very similar to mine and really made the installation possible. I was VERY nervous about cutting into the standard wire harness in light of the super fine wires used in the car (Lexus RX 450h+). The video suggested using weatherproof but connectors so that is what I used and everything works as advertised. Would I use this kit again? ONLY if a "plug and play" -like I had on my Subaru could not be found. A word of caution: the Lexus vehicles will totally lock up if the 12v battery drains completely. Yes, the RX450 does have a 12v battery in addition to the main electric battery. If this happens even the manual key from the key fob will not open the door. Per Lexus, this is considered a safety feature.

by:

Product works perfectly. Installation video was accurate and easy to follow. Took about a hour to connect all the wires. Connecting the power wire to the fuse compartment was bit tricky as couldn’t get the mat out to pass the wire underneath. Since Acura MDX trailer connector is empty for the company fitted towing system. It would be nice to have an optional connector to just connect all 4 wires to and plug the system without cutting the existing wires.

by:

Went on like you would expect. I ordered the plug bracket (reason for the rubber band holding the plug temporarily)rather than have the wires in the back hanging out through the hatch door. I ran them out where the rear light assembly is. The cutout measurement was a bit off. Corrected, no worries

by:

I've installed several model-specific hitches from etrailer.com and they were all easy but this was the easiest yet.

by:

Excellent kit that was easy to install. etrailer's video on YouTube was great! Discovered that my muffler heat shield had corroded fasteners, so I found a repair kit on Amazon with oversized “washers” that are good so far.

Great job Jill, I'm glad to hear the video helped!

by:

Do not attempt to to DYI this converter install unless you are very, very experienced!!
Me, a retired Master Auto/Tech-Electrician took 3-4 hours to do a safe installation. My 2003 Camry's rear wiring is too small to safely carry the amperage that would be needed for a CURT all-plug-in kit.
The long term safe part of the install is fishing routing the black power wire all of the way inside past the C, then B , then A pillars and tie up looping over the steering column and brake pedal assembly. The easy way under-chassis routing along steel brake lines is not long term safe. Dependent then on many many (more than supplied) ny-wraps to keep from hanging down sagging road debris snagged.

@Steveu Glad to hear it's still working well for you! What are you using it for?

by:

This was delivered within same box as a trailer hitch that I ordered for my 2017 QX50. Wir8ng package was open/damaged, however item looked clean and new. I installed it a couple days ago following instructions video since it was not a plug&play application. The installation took about 30 minutes. The unit works flawlessly. I towed my small trailer using the wiring and I had no issue what so ever. Iam happy with the purchase.

Yeah, it is definitely a bit to sort through, so I think we can help you out with the right 4-way wiring harness for your 2024 Kia Telluride. We'll start with the easy one, which is if you want to hardwire a 4-way, the model of your Telluride doesn't matter, and you can just go ahead and use the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236. But this is the most challenging install, and something I personally don't recommend; it's just making things harder...
