Video Transcript for Pollak Accessories and Parts PK12711U Review

Today we're going to review part number PK12711U. This is a Pollak Mounting Bracket for the Pollak 7-way RV style trailer connectors. This part is a right angle mounting bracket to put your Pollak 7-way RV style trailer connector on your vehicle. It will conveniently mount on your rear bumper of your truck or SUV. It's a zinc-plated construction, has a nice black epoxy coating on it, protects against rust and corrosion. Basically I just wanted to show you it does fit quite a few different Pollack 7-ways. I pulled one here just to show you what it would look like.

Basically it would just slide right in there and then you'd mount this to there. The mounting hardware is not included with this part number. We do sell that separately. This would be the mounting hardware. It comes with screws to mount the 7-way to this and then screws to mount this bracket to your vehicle. This part number on the hardware is PK11926 and again that's sold separately.

If you would like we do also sell this bracket with the hardware. That complete kit is part number PK12711U-26. On this bracket itself, again what you would do is just take your 7-way, drop it right in there, bolt it in and then your wiring would go right through here. Now also if you'd like this one is designed to use the screws to screw into your back of your vehicle. They do offer a no-drill installation for this bracket if you like. Basically what that is, that's a bracket that uses a clamp that would bolt to this bracket so there's no drilling needed.

Again those are sold separately; they're part number 18140, which is the short no-drill bracket. The part number 18136 is just the long no-drill bracket. That should do it for the review on part number PK12711U. This is the Pollack Mounting Bracket for the Pollak 7-way RV style trailer connectors. .

My F150 had an OEM 4 pin trailer plug and hitch. The 118242 - 7 pin connector with wiring harness is the ticket. The hardest part of the install was dropping the spare tire. The plugs connect directly to the factory plugs and the harness length is the correct length. The 3035-P brake controller connector harness was just as easy. Plugs right in to the OEM plug next to the ECM connector and the other end into the brake controller. The PK12711U-26 - 7 pin bracket and hardware kit fastens directly the OEM bracket that is on the hitch. My truck had an OEM 4 pin trailer towing set up with the hitch. The OEM hitch had the bracket welded on it to attach the 7 pin mounting bracket to it. These kits make this install very easy and professional looking. If I have one complaint, the hardware kit to attach the 7 pin connector bracket is set up to fasten the bracket directly to the bumper with 2 - self tapping screws provided in the kit. The kit also includes 4 #12 machine screws with toothed washer nuts to attached the 7 pin connector to the bracket. This is fine if your truck hitch doesn't have an attaching bracket welded to it. The kit should included in it 6 #12 machine screws and nuts along with the 2 self tapping screws. Since my OEM hitch actually had a bracket welded to it to attach the 7 pin bracket to it, I had to use two other #12 screws and nuts to attach the 7 pin bracket to the OEM bracket on the hitch. Not a big deal, just a thought. It took me about 2 hours, start to finish to install the 7 pin connector, trailer controller, and add the two relays in the OEM relay/fuse box under the hood. I highly recommend these kits. 166106

Very happy with my purchase of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder trailer hitch, 7 pin wiring harness and bracket. The videos really speed up the installation, especially the internal vehicle disassembly and wiring. Everything went to plan with no surprises. The parts are well engineered and good quality. I printed out the 7 pin connector schematic and used a 12 volt test bulb to verify functionality. I didn't break any of the plastic clips or skin my knuckles, which is a first for me. I purchased an inexpensive panel clip tool set, which makes removing the plastic trim a breeze. A screwdriver would work fine, but I needed an excuse to buy some more tools. I removed the blanking plugs from the external harness connectors before installing the hitch. It's easier to get at them. Don't pry the connectors off the body using a screwdriver. Use a pair of needle nose pliers on the reverse side of the clip to release them from the sheet metal. Excellent web site and videos make it easy to select the right parts. 476038

It was suggested I purchase this bracket to assist in mounting my 7-way trailer harness (item #118253) to my 2010 Honda pilot. When I tried to attach the bracket underneath and behind the bumper, I discovered it was too tall and very difficult to fit where it was required. I also found that the bracket is a 90-degree bend and will not go flush against the bumper wall. The bumper wall runs at an angle and you would need a bracket with an approx 35-degree angle to fit flush against the bumper, that's important if you want a professional clean looking mounting of the trailer harness (7- way insert) like I installed (see attached pics). So forget this bracket, Just save your money and mount onto the bumper wall, plenty thickness and you get a clean look...Maybe one day they will make the proper bracket for such an installation... 423809

The tow package I purchased last year, fits great and installed perfectly. It works perfectly with my electronic under-dash brake controller. The kit came with everything that I needed and instructions were easy to read I had the entire kit installed in about 40 minutes it's work Flawless for me for over a year and I tow a variety of trailers the plug is never failed due to workmanship it is still water tight. The receiver cap spring still has excellent tension to help hold the plug into place, the only gripe I have is that I should have installed stainless mounting screwswhen I installed the kit because the mounting starting are starting to rust a little, but that's my oversight and is nothing to do with the kit and its ability to provide flawless service. I highly recommend this product if you're like me and was looking for an oem Plug and Play setup! 5 stars! 373323

Like many others stated, super easy installation of the hitch. Only took me about 30 min by myself. It took me about an hour for the wiring harness and bracket since I had to find another bolt and nut since it only came with 3. The thing that gave me the most trouble was the wiring harness. I couldn't bring the cannon plug down towards me at all so I had to do it all by feel. The mounting bracket for the wiring harness I chose to flip upside down and bend towards the rear of the car and down so I could hide the wiring and hitch completely. The other reason was because I didn't want the bracket to catch on anything because it was lower than the bumper. I ordered the supplies on Fri and they were here mid day the following Tuesday. With all the great videos, a job that might have taken me 4-5 hours only took 2 hours plus knowing where the cannon plug was helped tremendously. If I hadn't known where it was I would have prob had to do a splice job. This job, in my opinion, looks professional. Thanks ETRAILER. 399634

Excellent product. It is very study. It won't bend easily which is nice for me as I drive over lots of stuff in the woods and on the farm. 85110

Good product but does not work at all in my application. I was replacing a factory GMC trailer hitch which has the trailer plug mounted to the hitch. This is the recommended mount to use but it is incorrect for the factory light plug. Factory plug is a twist lock mount that is also manufacture by Pollak, same as this mount and they should know that this will not work. This mount is for add on trailer lighting which is different. I cut the factory mount off and welded it to my new hitch and everything was good. Good product just wrong application. Pollak should know better. 411919

The hardest task was removing the cover of the wiring harness under the driver's side fear bumper. Finding the port for the brake controller was challenging until I used a mirror , then bingo, there it was. I feel much more comfortable being able to "plug and play" using the factory installed wiring than having a RV dealership splice something in. Adding more detail on how to unlatch the port covers would be a big help. I had to search through a couple of videos before finding hints. All being said, great products that install as advertised 245679

I used this bracket to upgrade from a 4pin harness with no mount to a 7 pin harness and mount for my 2012 frontier. Both Items were purchased from Etrailer. the harness is part#118267 and was a breeze to install, because the it uses factory weather connectors. The bracket did require drill and tap of the underside of the bumper. 20 minutes to install. get the 7pin to multi-plug-in adaptor also. so you can go from 5 and 4 pin plugs. etrailer did a good job of shipping right away. 69562

I needed a 7 pin wiring system and a friend told me about etrailer.com. I looked at all the options listed for brake controllers and didn't know which to choose from, I called tech support and explained what I wanted and they reccomends a controller for me. I also wanted plug and play, no cutting/skinning/splicing wires for me, I wanted it simple. Well I got simple, very easy install and everything works perfect. Very satisfied and I will be buying more products in the near future. 326851

I ordered the T-One harness from Tekonsha and received it within 2-3 days. It fit perfectly in my 2016 Traverse. I was able to bend the Pollack connector bracket PK12711U to angle the connector downward so that when attached to the Draw-Tite welded bracket mount, it is completely covered with the hitch plate cover on the vehicle in place. The directions show the placement for 2 of the 3 relays, but the video on eTrailer.com shows where to place the third. Well made product. 375585

I did not use the mounting bracket except for a template. I knocked out my 2000 F150 bumper with a knock out cutter and drilled holes for the bolts. I mounted it just to the left of the recess for the license plate. It worked great. It was packaged well and came sooner than expected. I also got the wiring harness kit which was a breeze to install I highly recommend etrailer.com. With all the information they have online you cannot go wrong. 297811

The hitch came within 4 business days. It was the correct one. It had instructions and hardware though. There were no lock washers or lock nuts for the installation. A little disappointing. The Pollak 7-pole elec. connector bracket had no instructions at all. There was no paper work even guiding me to a web site for help. A hint about breaking off the lock tabs on the back of certain kinds of plug ends for proper fit would have been nice. 186042

Overall, this worked out OK. I ordered this along with a custom Draw-Tite hitch receiver. It only comes with 4 screws with nuts. The 2 self tapping screws were useless with the harness on the hitch. So I only have 2 screws holding this on for now and will pick up some later this week to get it finished. I used the websites recommended product on this, and probably should have gone back and gotten the Draw-Tite specific one. 403573

Got this in the mail the other day. Shipping was quick. Condition was excellent. Installed in no time, and had my wiring harness running in about 15 minutes. The only bad thing about this whole deal was that I had to buy this online. I went to three in town (very well known) parts stores. (NAPA, AUTOZONE, AND ADVANCED AUTO), and not one had this part or company on their shelves to purchase locally, so I had to hit the internet. 191639

I did not install the bracket. However I could have made it work with some modifications. The plug on the truck has a twist lock into the existing braket. So I removed the old bracket and installed it onto the new Curt hitch. Took about 15min to remove and modify to fit. The new bracket did not have the twist lock for the plug, so I would have had to drill the plug and bolt/screw into the bracket. 149371

2016 Nissan Frontier. Ordered equipment to tow a trailer. I had trouble with the web-based ordering. Had to break down and call. Call was smooth. Package shipped next morning and arrived the following evening. Communication throughout the process was timely. All components where included & as described. First time I've used eTrailer, but I will use them again. 315375

The product purchased itself was of quality yet I was not pleased because the setup was for a 2012 Honda Pilot and the connector behind the bumper did not allow for and easy and seamless installation. I had to jury rig it so that I would have a connection to my trailer. If I had to do over, I would have paid extra and went to the HONDA dealer and purchased it there. 351116

Nice product to use with my 7 blade connector. Only thing, I had to buy more parts to mount the bracket onto my trailer hitch receiver. I did use the 4 black bolts and nutsto mount the connector to the bracket, but the 2 silver screws are more for screwing into metal, like sheetmetal. I do recommend using this product for the 7 blade connector. 469722

I ordered the prodigy 2 controller, the wireing harness, hardware kit and mounting bracket. quick shipping and instalation was super easy with the how to video. I installed the whole kit in under an hour and towed 1650mi right off. Just as described and the kit worked flawless! literally plug and play. I can't say enough good about it. 47151

Product with instructions were spot on with no problem installing the everything except the 118242 OEM wiring harness. I had to remove the connectors, strip, solder, and heat shrink the exposed connections the wires to the harness. I went back to the harness section and did not find the connectors that is on my 1997 F-150 pickup truck. 279845

Product went together as described and when attached to the short no drill mount bracket provided a sturdy mount for the 7way plug. 363379

Not the right size or hole position to mount to the frame of the Honda Pilot however it is necessary to use a bracket of this sort to attach the plug mount to. I flattened this one out with a hammer and used it like that. It worked just fine but again don't expect to mount it to the frame of the car. Good news is you don't need to 56449

This is a good bracket. Easy to install. However, the 2 self-tapping screws included were not strong enough to cut through the steel on my bumper, so I had to drill out the holes with a bit. Actually 2 bits because I broke the first one. My bad! Otherwise it was a snap to install the bracket and connect the 7-way plug. 474568

- PK12711U

by:

The mount is great! So great in fact that I used self tapping screws and went straight into the bumper for my harness. Be careful if going this route, because the screws do get hot. It makes it easier to hook up my trailer, and it's very solid. The shipping was fast and overall experience was great. Thank you. 294193

I purchased this with the T-One wiring kit for my 2013 Pilot. A few self threading screws and nuts and bolts from the hardware store and I was in business. Tap two holes in the frame and it mounted easily. [...] wanted $350 to install the wiring and mount. I did it for less than $100 in about 30 minutes. 258939

- PK12711U

by:

Only issue is the small sheet metal screws sent are not really adequate in my opinion. I used 1/4" bolts & locknuts, to ensure this does not fall off over time. I had to slightly drill out the mounting holes. Plug fit in bracket nicely and mounting was easy as well. eTrailer shipping was good. 391359

This install could have been done in under 10 minutes after watching the video. Dust holding together the connector under the bumper was the only thing that slows you down. Otherwise it was Click, Click, DONE. first quality product. I bought the harness bracket and 4 pin adapter all for around $100.00 189949

- PK12711U

by:

It worked perfectly. Held the harness. I used different mounting screws because the ones that came were a little small. Don't get the 3 day shipping it took 5 days to get to me. I should have used another online vendor even though it was more expensive because at least it would have arrived on time. 554594

I order the installation package as a backup to a direct install of the 7 Point tow hitch package. Though I did not utilize the bracket, I must say that the quality is great. the bracket itself is made of hard steel for which I am looking to utilize for a different purpose. Thank you etrailer 344798

I can't say poor or excellent, it just didn't work on a 2015 honda pilot's plastic bumper. The wiring harness reviewed prior was fine but the vehicle probably needs the manufacturer s mounting bracket. The wiring harness plug is on the bumper. It should be OK but the bracket would be better. 194155

This product was so easy to install and saved us a lot of money. The camper dealer wanted to run wiring and charge us a fortune. With this plug in, the wiring need was eliminated and we did it ourselves with little effort. Can't understand why a dealership wouldn't know about this product. 426388

- PK12711U

by:

The instructions were right on. The only problem was locating the plug for the under bumper wiring. But finally found it tucked away in the frame under the bumper. It has been dislodged from the bracket and was damaged, but it connected fine and I just tied it up with the snap ties 282735

Here again, this item has not yet been opened, but I have no reason to believe it is not of sound quality and theat any pieces are missing. I can count the screws in the bag... and the holes on the bracket itself line up nicely with the holes for its attachment to the hitch. 485579

Fast shipping. Had to add spacer between bracket and bumper because hole in bracket for wiring and top where it attaches to truck to short. Without spacer bracket wouldn't allow wires to come straight out the front, because bumper in the way. Other than that no problems. 157938

If you do not want to drill, make sure you grab a long no-drill mounting bracket. need both this for 7 pin facing plate, and bracket to attach to the hitch assembly snugly without drilling into your vehicle. bracket seems like it will last and is decent gauge. 372924

If you ever want to get a new brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. You will also need wiring harness # 3070-P to plug the controller into your Pilot if the...

  • Recommended Trailer Connector for 2014 Honda Pilot
  • To install a 7-way trailer connector on your 2014 Pilot, you'll need part # 118265. You won't need a bracket, as there's an area along side the hitch that can be opened up with a 2 inch hole saw. If you'd rather not do that, you can use a mounting bracket like # PK12711U can be used. The 7-way would plug into the connector you found under the vehicle, you'll need to remove the protective cap before you can plug the 7-way into the connector. • Options for Installing 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2004 Ford F150 Equipped with 4-Pole
  • Although the # 30717 will work, I have a better suggestion for you. If your F150 is the New Body style, use part # 118247. If you have the Old Body style, use # 118242. Either connector will plug inline with your existing trailer connector, allowing you to retain the function of your existing 4-pole. Either kit includes the necessary fuses and relays to activate the remainder of the tow package circuits. Granted, this is a more expensive option, but it will be a very quick and easy plug-and-play...

  • Running Lights Not Working on Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2013 Honda Pilot
  • You will need to make sure all of the included fuses and relays are installed and that none are blown. This includes the in-line fuses that are part of the harness. A blown fuse or relay could cause this problem. If all the fuses are installed and working properly then use a circuit tester like # ALL640595 if needed to test the running light pin on the 7-Way. If it has power then you know the problem is on the trailer, most likely a dirty or corroded trailer connector or bad ground at...

  • Options for Installing a Tow Ready Custom Wiring Harness # 118253 on a 2011 Honda Pilot
  • The reason we do not recommend that you use this product on a 2011 Honda Pilot is that factory cut-out in the rear fascia causes fit issues with the included mount. However, like you said there have been a number of people who have made this product work on their 2011 Pilots using different modifications and mounting brackets. One person was able to use a Mounting Bracket, part # PK12711U, and make it work for him. It sounds like he used it as a backing plate to attach the 7-way from...

  • 7-Way Trailer Wiring Connector Mounting Bracket for a 2011 Nissan Frontier
  • I recommend using the Pollak 7-Way Mounting Bracket, # PK12711U, over the Draw-Tite 7-Way Mounting Bracket, # 18138, because the slotted holes allow for fit to many different manufacturers 7-Way trailer connectors. To make the installation easy and avoid drilling, I would recommend a no drill bracket. We have a short model, # 18140, and a long model, # C57202. The short model sticks out 3-3/4 inches and the long model sticks out 6-1/2 inches depending on the location you decide to mount...
