Video Transcript for Replacement 10" x 2-1/4" Electric Brake Shoes Feature Review

Today we're going to take a look at the 10 inch by 2 and a quarter inch electric brake shoe and lining for 3500 pound axles. This part is for 1 wheel. These trailer brake shoe pads are for electric trailer brakes. They are designed to fit most 3500 pound axles. They will fit the Dexter, the Fayette and the Foreman 10 inch by 2 and a quarter inch electric brakes. It does include the primary shoe, the secondary shoe, and it will include the 2 hold down springs with the pins. The primary shoe is usually the front shoe.

That will usually have the smaller pad on it when compared. You can see the secondary shoe will usually be the larger pad. You have to remember that when these are installed, the smaller, or the primary shoe will be to the front, will point towards the front of the trailer. You want to make sure when you assemble these that the smaller shoe goes in the front and the larger shoe will go on the rear. These parts are certified by US SAE standards and CSA standards, which are the Canadian standards. These are designed to be used with 10 inch drums.

When we do say 10 inch by 2 and a quarter, what we're basically saying is you can determine the size brake assembly you have by measuring it when it's all installed on your trailer. When these are all installed, if you measure the diameter from the pad to this pad, straight across, should measure 10 inches. Then the 2 and a quarter is the actual width of the brake shoe lining itself. So you see there 2 and a quarter. When these are installed, if you have this all installed on your trailer on the brake assembly, with them installed, if you measured across you'd know you need a 10 inch and if you measure the width it'd be 2 and a quarter inch. That should do it for the review of the 10 inch by 2 and a quarter inch electric brake shoe and lining for 3500 pound axles for one wheel.

They fit like the OEM ones. Good product, great price.

by:

Ordered Brake Shoes for a Landscapers Trailer. All I needed was the diameter of the drum and the depth. Etrailer set me shoes in just a few days that fit my trailer exactly.

by:

Very good product and fast delivery. No problems. My brakes were borderline needing replaced and the price was good. No over charging on delivery either.

by:

Exact Replacement. 1993 Big Tex car hauler with tandem Dexter 3500# axles. Rear axle has Dexter 10" electric drum brakes, the shoes of which were 2-1/4" wide and not the self adjusting version. The etrailer replacement brake shoes appear to be exactly the same as the shoes they are replacing (which could be OEM). Everything fit exactly the same. The front and rear shoes are different so pay attention during disassembly. Dexter lists the bearing seating procedure on their website for re-assembly. Axle nut uses a 1-1/2" socket. If you want to add "Bearing Buddies", the 1.98" size fit correctly. Replacing brakes is not my favorite sport, but these parts made it as easy as possible.

by:

Brake shoes were a good value for the money and much cheaper than their Dexter counterpart.

by:

Installed the brake shoes on my 1978 Prowler travel trailer as replacements for the original Dayton Fayette shoes with no problems.

Brakes are working fine

by:

I bought brakes for my car trailer last year and installed them as soom as I got them.
Living at 1500 feet of elevation I need good brakes going down the hills when I leave my house....no problems braking since I installed the new linings. Great price, great product, what more can I say.

by:

Perfect fix and got it before I Expected.

by:

Products arrived quickly. Trailer brake shoes and breakaway installed easily and worked well.

by:

Etrailer is amazing. I could not find the right camper brake shoes in my area. I called etrailer and talked with Christina and she was amazing at helping me get the right ones . I even got a email from her telling me my order was shipped and delivered. Good people. Fast shipping . Definitely will be ordering from them in the future

by:

Excellent service and shipping. Top hole for return spring had to be slightly elongated, may have just been my springs. Otherwise look like good quality shoes, came with hold down springs and pins.

by:

1. Excellent Youtube video clip on changing these brake shoes - very helpful.
2. Product a perfect replacement for a 28 year old part!
3. Same day processing/shipping order - arrived when promised - greatly appreciated!

Will use etrailer again - great service and parts!

by:

Easy installation. Perfect fit, works great. No complaints.

Still working Great!! Still no complaints!

by:

Hi Kelly I am very pleased with the brake shoes that I installed on my 1980 Prowler travel trailer. Shipping time was only 4 days. Would buy again from you. 5 stars. Bruce

by:

Bought to replace original ALKO brake pads. Had to drill new holes for ALKO springs to work. Pad material slightly smaller than original ALKO pad. Otherwise seem to work OK.

by:

I am very pleased with the service and quality of the parts.
i recommend etrailer.com for all your trailer needs.
Thank you very much.

by:

I'm in the middle right now because 2 of the shoes had a fair size piece of the braking pad portion break away from the rest. They were very fast to send replacements so I have nothing but praise for that. I have done business with these people before and have had very fine experiences. I suspect this was just a fluke thing. I will order from here in the future.

by:

The brake shoes arrived on time and they were the parts I had ordered. Thanks etrailer for good service!

by:

Products were shipped promptly. The brake shoes fit the axle but required one hole to be elongated to accept the upper return spring.

by:

On line ordering is the way to do business. The shipping was quick and the part fit perfectly.. I enjoy doing business with etrailer.com.
Thank you!!

by:

quick shipping . Shoes fit as they should. By the time I got all the parts and adjusters all cleaned up, I should have maybe purchased the complete setup for a few dollars more

by:

Fit my car hauler perfectly. Typical etrailer.com service; good price, great communication, and speedy shipping.

by:

Other than delayed shipping everything worked out perfectly. Brakes have been rebuilt, adjusted and the trailer is ready to go.

by:

Items arrived on time. Items where perfect! Customer service was very helpful. I will definitely use E-trailer again!

by:

i was happy with service rep lazer and brake product and price. i will use you for future needs

  • Best Replacement Brakes for a 7,000 lbs Axle
Hey Jared! I recommend replacing your brakes over finding replacement shoes today then springs or magnets next time. I would need to know exactly what brake assemblies you currently have (part numbers) to look and see if we have replacement shoes and it's not really a cost or time effective solution compared to replacing the entire assembly. 5 bolts two wires and you're onto the next one is a whole lot easier than dissembling each brake. I do not have a database that shows me part numbers...

  • Replacement Brake Shoes for 10 x 2-1/4" AxleTek Brakes
The 10" x 2-1/4" Electric Brake Shoe/Lining # BP04-095 could possibly work, but I recommend going with the Replacement Shoe and Lining Kit for Manual Adjusting 10" Electric Brake Assembly # AKBRKR-S-10 instead because it is designed specifically for the AxleTek brake shoes. Usually we recommend replacing your whole brake kit instead of just the brake shoes because some of the other internal components would need to be replaced soon too. If you want to go this route then the kit you need...

For your brake assemblies, you will use the Replacement Trailer Brake Magnet Kit for Dexter and Hayes / AL-KO 10" Trailer Brakes # BP01-110. • Replacement Brake Drums and Brake Assembly Parts for Lance 1685 Travel Trailer
Given the wheel bolt pattern and the 8-247 that's cast into your existing brake drums, you have a 3500 lb axle. Assuming you have E-Z Lube spindles with the grease zerks in the end, you'd want to use the # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K hub/drums you looked at. If you have standard spindles, use # 84546UC3. At the very least, you'd want to replace your brake magnets, if they've got grooves worn into them as they won't get a good contact with the new drums for effective braking. If your brake assemblies...

We have different part numbers for the replacement parts you listed, but they are the correct parts for your brake assemblies. • Will 10 x 2-1/4 Inch Trailer Brake Shoe Pads Part BP04-095 Fit 10-Inch Nev-R Adjust Brake Assembly
Thanks for sending us a picture! The 10 x 2-1/4 inch trailer brake shoe pads part # BP04-095 you referenced only works with the manual adjust brake assembly. What you need is the left hand shoe lining # K71-681 and/or right hand shoe lining # K71-682 to fit the Dexter 10-inch Nev-R adjust brake assemblies.
