Swap in fresh airflow with RV vents and fans offered in plastic and metal. Plastic keeps weight down and makes simple replacements, while metal can help with long sun and weather exposure. Commonly installed in 14-1/4" x 14-1/4" roof openings. Plan on #8 screws, butyl tape, and sealant, and wire powered lids to 12-volt DC with a rocker or wall switch.
These connect to a 12-volt DC power source. A powered lid can use a wall remote or rocker switches, and two switches may be needed. Remove the screen frame to access wiring points. If the included wiring info is light, verify with the vent's diagram and a trusted video before crimping and routing 16 gauge primary wire.
Metal can stand up to weather longer, and several folks switched from plastic for that reason. Plastic lids can crack from sun over time, while metal edges can be razor sharp—wear gloves and deburr if needed. Check the lid hinge construction; if spot welds or hinges look weak, reinforce or choose a sturdier design to help prevent a lost cap on the highway.
Plan on buying screws, butyl tape, and lap sealant separately. Some setups call for #8 screws, others used #10 stainless; check your vent's instructions and roof material. Apply sealant under the flange and surround each screw hole. If screws aren't included, self-tapping fasteners or reusing good originals can work.
Most replacements drop into a 14-1/4 x 14-1/4 roof opening. If your cutout is closer to 14-1/2, be ready to trim the corners. Measure roof thickness; around 1 inch may require trimming the interior garnish for a clean fit.
