Does etrailer Carry Furrion Chill Cube w/ Heat Pump to Replace Dometic Duo-Therm

Question:

I have read that Furrion has a model of the Chill Cube with a heat pump. Is that something that is available yet? I have a Dometic duo-therm I want to replace on my travel trailer. Thanks.

Hey Andrew! Yes, Furrion does have a Chill Cube model with a heat pump. This was actually just released for aftermarket sale. You will need a complete system to make the switch, new R32 units aren't backwards compatible with old R410A systems. You can choose from the following based on color and ducted/ductless:

-Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV AC w/ Heat Pump - Ductless - 18K Btu - White - R32 # FR87TQ

-Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV AC w/ Heat Pump - Ductless - 18K Btu - Black - R32 # FR77TQ

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ Heat Pump - Ducted - 18K Btu - White - R32 # FR67TQ

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ Heat Pump - Ducted - 18K Btu - Black - R32 # FR97TQ

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ Heat Pump and Thermostat - Ducted - 18K Btu - White - R32 # FR59TQ

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ Heat Pump and Thermostat - Ducted - 18K Btu - Black - R32 # FR27TQ

The wall thermostat is only necessary if you want it to run your furnace as well. The remote handles all other functions. You can also use your existing wall thermostat, or add one like # DMC84RR, to run your furnace independently which is what I recommend to avoid compatibility issues.

Can the remote control a furnace as well? Or is it just the wall thermostat that is able to do this?

@Jeff great question. The remote is only able to control the Chill Cube AC unit. Since the Furrion wall thermostat tends to have issues with a lot of furnaces, I recommend using the wall thermostat you have now just for the furnace. You can run the Chill Cube off of the remote and ADB controls. If you have an older setup and that thermostat can't operate without the control box in your AC I recommend adding a simple furnace thermostat like the # DMC84RR which works with 2-wire setups.

I am buying 2026 kz durango HT 296bht with 2 coleman mach 15 units. If I replace the main AC unit in the bavk that is connected to furnace. Can I leave furnace wires and connect chill cube thermostat next to it? Is chill cube thermostat wireless or I have to run wires from the unit to the wall? I am debating between coleman everest and furrion chill cube. Coleman is compatible with the furnace, but chill cube has a heat pump. Anything else to consider when choosing between the two?

@Rauan you can leave that existing thermostat to run the furnace and just run the Chill Cube off of the remote. The Chill Cube is the more proven system at this point, they're both going to do a good job. The main advantages it has over the Everest # CM35MR (white) or # CM55MR (black) are the heat pump and the remote. The Everest has to use the wall thermostat.

@RobinH Thank you! Do you have any information on coleman everest real world power consumption vs performance? There are several enthusiasts on youtube who did a very good review of chill cube, but I can’t find anything on coleman besides a couple of videos where they positivity described it, but without actual measurements demonstrated.

@Rauan the Everest is newer than the Chill Cube, and we only installed our first one here about a month ago, so I don't have any real-world power consumption data from our own testing yet. Coleman rates the full-load amperage at 5.0 amps in Eco, 6.6 amps on Low, 8.9 amps on Medium, 10.7 amps on High, and 12.7 amps in Turbo. Since it is variable speed, actual power consumption will vary depending on how hard the AC needs to work. I expect we'll have a much better idea of how it compares to the Chill Cube as we get more time with it.
