Slight damage to corners of vent.
Think
I can straighten them, but packaging needs to be better for such a fragile ite,

It’s been great. No problems. The trim kit was a great fit, as my older vent didn’t have it.

installed on aluminum A.R.E. DCU truck cap.
Did not use the screw or caulk tape kit since the screws were far to long and the caulking is for rubber roofs. As it is, the smallest screws I found in size #8 were 1/2" long.

THe trim piece might be nice but it also reduces the head room in the space. i elected to not use it for that reason.

THe metal vent cover is what i wanted, though I wish they had smoothed the covers edge; it is sharp for the installer. But once installed it wont be an issue.

The screen is okay, but doesn't seem to completely cover the openings along the edge. If this was a concern, maybe a bit of 1/4" wide foam, backed with tape would make up the difference.

I prefer this type vent assy. with the round knob instead of the crank.

A cardboard template would have been helpful, but obviously not necessary.

With luck it will last half as long as the truck cap ... we'll see.

So far so good. I have not used it as much as I had anticipated. But it works for me when I do.

Received the Ventline Ventadome metal roof vent in good condition.
After removing the old plastic roof vent, the new unit slipped right into the existing square hole with no trouble. See the "before" and "after" pictures. The old plastic roof vent only lasted a few years in Wyoming (the 2 X 5 blocks in the "before" picture were duck taped in place to prevent the plastic bag I stuffed in there from blowing away - a temporary fix while waiting for the new vent).

I did not use the polyurethane adhesive between the roof and the vent flange. Everything deteriorates sooner or later especially in Wyoming. If I ever had to replace the vent it would be exceedingly difficult to remove it if stuck down with urethane adhesive. Instead I used ordinary putty (available at most hardware stores). In fact the old vent was sealed with putty. Since the putty layer is thicker than the urethane, I used 1" screws around the flange instead of the 3/4" screws supplied.

A year from now I'll see how the vent has survived.

Comments
How far above the roof does it protrude?
-- comment by: tim - 07/29/2015
Tim, do you mean the distance from the roof to the top of the lid when closed, or when fully open? When closed it cant be more than a couple of inches. I dont know what it is fully open - maybe 12 inches?Unfortunately the trailer is in Wyoming and I am in Denver right now, so I cant measure it.Paul
-- comment by: Paul - 07/31/2015
After one year in the Wyoming weather the vent has performed very well: no water leakage and no dust entry. Hail storms were not able to dent the vent lid even though they were severe enough to dent the aluminum trailer roof somewhat. I am pleased with the results. Paul

I bought a returned item and it showed on the listing that it had been bent in the mail when returned. When it arrived there was some additional damage which would not have been easily noticed but two of the rivets that were part of the structure had not been attached when it was made i.e. a manufacturing flaw. We had to drill holes, go buy some rivets and put in rivets or it would not have lasted long. I called and alerted them and I was given an additional discount on the item which was fair of them. Now it is totally perfect, I am very happy with the product and it will last a long time. I specifically got a metal one because the reviews on the less expensive plastic covers say that the plastic doesn't last in the sun and have to be replaced usually within a year or two so it was worth buying one that will still be there intact in ten years. I also had put a reflective finish on my roof to control the heat inside which really works well and I can put that on this cover as well. They were very fair with me on this and I would recommend them to anyone. I also noticed that they are the only company I have ever seen where they do "happy calls" to see if their customers are happy about a year after they purchase their item and this type of superior level service is very rare these days.

Comments
I have had this vent for a year. I love that it is not plastic, it is metal and it is lasting, doesnt leak, is not breaking up or falling apart. It does the job and keeps it warm inside when that is appropriate and lets the air in when that is needed. I drove across country in the middle of February last year when there was summer weather in California and severe winter weather in Massachusetts and everything else in between on the way in my conversion truckRV and the vent worked great and I expect it will last as long as the vehicle. It also is quite secure as it seals tight and would not be easy to break into if someone wanted to break in, unlike plastic which could simply be smashed with a fist as it gets very brittle in the sun. And when you live in a metropolitan area break in is an issue if it looks insecure if you ever park your vehicle on the street.

by:

I bought this vent because it was low profile ,metal, manual operation and made in the USA. It was easier to install than I thought it would be ; because of the contours in the cap. No problem. The flange was wide enough and the gauge thick enough to make the contour perfectly. I used 100% clear silicone to make the seal.I'll paint it as soon as temperatures get back to normal. I highly recommend this unit.

I ordered 2 of these vents and they arrived in good condition in a timely manner. They installed nicely and work as I wanted. They seem to seal well, no leaks as yet and we have had a few heavy driving rains since I installed these vents. Yes, I would buy them again, if ever needed, and I recommend them. Thank you fine folks at etrailer.

I love my new metal vent!
My auto is
a Ford 2007 E350 Super Extended cab with 138,0000+ miles which I also love not the miles but the Van.
Living here in the Rocky Mountains above the sleepy town of Las Vegas New Mexico a metal vent was essential as we have surprise hail storms even in the summer time which last year whiped out a record of windshields and metal house roofs!
The installation has awarded me as "Poster Child for the Unprepared'!
My jig saw brand , a "Rigid" non variable speed apparently, needed a new blade I soon found after successfully drilling the roof pilot holes. I had worn it out cutting heavy metal door thresholds.
Off to the town below to discover no one here has the correct blades for my brand. I then caved and bought a great variable speed Black and Decker which accepts Milwaukee blades even available almost everywhere! The drill championed the metal cutout plus murdered my back electric attachment to the dome light LOL! The caulking was for me messy as usual and Dylan had sent just the right amount to fill in even the 4 hole gaps as my roof has deep ridges to deal with after sinking the vent. The screws I found were inadequate for the metal roofing install so back to town this time covered in silver caulking appearing as a giant bird flying overhead had pooped on me lol. Finally back and screws in place to complete the seal I applied the remaining caulking all around the edges and finished with Flex Tape just in case to ward off our winters. As I said I love it! This is a great recommended product with my stamp of approval! Thanks Dylan!

by:

Nice replacement vent. The top side is all metal and should last longer than a plastic vent.

Comments
The metal vent is well constructed and is working well after one year.

by:

Well made, easy installation. Insert in trailer not deep enough to meet top piece. Used old white to contact top cover. Worked great.

by:

This also was great and came the wheels
Thanks

by:

I bought two of these for my steel roof 1969 Clark Cortez motorhome. I actually ordered the 2nd one after buying and installing the first, so I am a repeat customer with this particular vent. Shipped to my door for cheaper than a vintage supply website offered the exact vent for replacements on vintage airstreams and other trailers. The installation was simple. Looks clean and I LOVE the metal vents. No early morning sunlight over my head in my eyes when camping. :) :) :)

by:

As much as I liked having a translucent skylight for my RV's tack room vent, the Florida Sun took its toll. This metal replacement fit-up perfectly, installed fast, and is bulletproof against the weather. I added a battery-powered LED courtesy light to the tack room ceiling and all's well, day or night.

by:

This product was purchased to replace an old vent that broke. The vent showed up on the front steps. I open the box and found the corner to be bent up. I needed to fix the hole in the roof A.S.A.P.,
so I bent the corner back to avoid going through a return. Over all
I'm happy with the vent, but not thrilled about it being bent.

by:

The vent was pretty easy to install. The increased size has helped with exhausting the heat on a summer day. It is durable, operates smoothly, and closes/seals well. I have had no leaks from the vent. We have been very happy with it.

by:

We just installed this today. Installation was easy. the part fit perfectly. It is a far better product than OEM.

by:

should out live the trailer

by:

I had a plastic roof for years and years, but the most recent one (of three) was cooked by the sun and just became so brittle that its crank frame broke right out of it. I hadn't even been aware of the existence of the metal one until I went to the Internet (instead of brick-and-mortar stores) but I find nothing at all wrong with this one and expect never to replace it. That is, unless some goofball tries to bring my van out of a garage without having raised the door high enough like when my first one was ruined, back in the 1990's.

by:

Holding up to the weather.

  • Lid Direction Recommendation for Installing a Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent
The lid of the Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent # V2110SP-24 that you referenced is not designed to open towards the front of the trailer. The lid would most likely break due to the wind pressure. The best option would be to install this vent the correct way and then have it slightly open while traveling to help pull the hot air out of the horse trailer. If you can open side windows or vents on the trailer and then open this vent in the correct way it actually does do a great job moving...

For a low profile roof vent for you trailer the part # V2110SP-24 would be a great option. When installed it will only add 2 inches to the height of your trailer. Only issue is that it won't allow light in since the lid is metal. I wish there was a different option that would allow light in, but this is the only thing that will allow you to park your trailer in the garage.

The sealant might be enough, it depends on how deep the corrugations are. You may need to use some sort of spacer if the gaps are too large. I would say if the bottom of the flange that mounts to the roof is more than a 1/4 inch from the top of the roof you would need to use spacers of some kind to bridge the gap and then use the sealant.
