I have installed the vent on my trailer yet, it is pouring down rain right now. I did open the box and it looks like a quality product. I should have installed in the next day or two depending on the weather.

Comments
Works great and very durable product. Plastic one broke when a branch hit it, I have driven under the same tree that broke the plastic on numerous times and the new metal ones takes the beating. Great product very easy to install.

installed on aluminum A.R.E. DCU truck cap. Did not use the screw or caulk tape kit since the screws were far to long and the caulking is for rubber roofs. As it is, the smallest screws I found in size #8 were 1/2" long. THe trim piece might be nice but it also reduces the head room in the space. i elected to not use it for that reason. THe metal vent cover is what i wanted, though I wish they had smoothed the covers edge; it is sharp for the installer. But once installed it wont be an issue. The screen is okay, but doesn't seem to completely cover the openings along the edge. If this was a concern, maybe a bit of 1/4" wide foam, backed with tape would make up the difference. I prefer this type vent assy. with the round knob instead of the crank. A cardboard template would have been helpful, but obviously not necessary. With luck it will last half as long as the truck cap ... we'll see.

Comments
So far so good. I have not used it as much as I had anticipated. But it works for me when I do.

Received the Ventline Ventadome metal roof vent in good condition. After removing the old plastic roof vent, the new unit slipped right into the existing square hole with no trouble. See the "before" and "after" pictures. The old plastic roof vent only lasted a few years in Wyoming (the 2 X 5 blocks in the "before" picture were duck taped in place to prevent the plastic bag I stuffed in there from blowing away - a temporary fix while waiting for the new vent). I did not use the polyurethane adhesive between the roof and the vent flange. Everything deteriorates sooner or later especially in Wyoming. If I ever had to replace the vent it would be exceedingly difficult to remove it if stuck down with urethane adhesive. Instead I used ordinary putty (available at most hardware stores). In fact the old vent was sealed with putty. Since the putty layer is thicker than the urethane, I used 1" screws around the flange instead of the 3/4" screws supplied. A year from now I'll see how the vent has survived.

Comments
How far above the roof does it protrude?
-- comment by: tim - 07/29/2015

Comments
Tim, do you mean the distance from the roof to the top of the lid when closed, or when fully open? When closed it cant be more than a couple of inches. I dont know what it is fully open - maybe 12 inches?Unfortunately the trailer is in Wyoming and I am in Denver right now, so I cant measure it.Paul

After one year in the Wyoming weather the vent has performed very well: no water leakage and no dust entry. Hail storms were not able to dent the vent lid even though they were severe enough to dent the aluminum trailer roof somewhat. I am pleased with the results. Paul

Great Cover. I had 3 plastic covers on the same trailer that all slowly decayed due to sunlight exposure. Of course you find out that the plastic cover is broken after the water has been coming in for several days or weeks. This one fixed the issue permanently. Highly recommended.

I love my new metal vent! My auto is a Ford 2007 E350 Super Extended cab with 138,0000+ miles which I also love not the miles but the Van. Living here in the Rocky Mountains above the sleepy town of Las Vegas New Mexico a metal vent was essential as we have surprise hail storms even in the summer time which last year whiped out a record of windshields and metal house roofs! The installation has awarded me as "Poster Child for the Unprepared'! My jig saw brand , a "Rigid" non variable speed apparently, needed a new blade I soon found after successfully drilling the roof pilot holes. I had worn it out cutting heavy metal door thresholds. Off to the town below to discover no one here has the correct blades for my brand. I then caved and bought a great variable speed Black and Decker which accepts Milwaukee blades even available almost everywhere! The drill championed the metal cutout plus murdered my back electric attachment to the dome light LOL! The caulking was for me messy as usual and Dylan had sent just the right amount to fill in even the 4 hole gaps as my roof has deep ridges to deal with after sinking the vent. The screws I found were inadequate for the metal roofing install so back to town this time covered in silver caulking appearing as a giant bird flying overhead had pooped on me lol. Finally back and screws in place to complete the seal I applied the remaining caulking all around the edges and finished with Flex Tape just in case to ward off our winters. As I said I love it! This is a great recommended product with my stamp of approval! Thanks Dylan!

I bought this vent because it was low profile ,metal, manual operation and made in the USA. It was easier to install than I thought it would be ; because of the contours in the cap. No problem. The flange was wide enough and the gauge thick enough to make the contour perfectly. I used 100% clear silicone to make the seal.I'll paint it as soon as temperatures get back to normal. I highly recommend this unit.

I bought a returned item and it showed on the listing that it had been bent in the mail when returned. When it arrived there was some additional damage which would not have been easily noticed but two of the rivets that were part of the structure had not been attached when it was made i.e. a manufacturing flaw. We had to drill holes, go buy some rivets and put in rivets or it would not have lasted long. I called and alerted them and I was given an additional discount on the item which was fair of them. Now it is totally perfect, I am very happy with the product and it will last a long time. I specifically got a metal one because the reviews on the less expensive plastic covers say that the plastic doesn't last in the sun and have to be replaced usually within a year or two so it was worth buying one that will still be there intact in ten years. I also had put a reflective finish on my roof to control the heat inside which really works well and I can put that on this cover as well. They were very fair with me on this and I would recommend them to anyone. I also noticed that they are the only company I have ever seen where they do "happy calls" to see if their customers are happy about a year after they purchase their item and this type of superior level service is very rare these days.

I bought two of these for my steel roof 1969 Clark Cortez motorhome. I actually ordered the 2nd one after buying and installing the first, so I am a repeat customer with this particular vent. Shipped to my door for cheaper than a vintage supply website offered the exact vent for replacements on vintage airstreams and other trailers. The installation was simple. Looks clean and I LOVE the metal vents. No early morning sunlight over my head in my eyes when camping. :) :) :)

- V2110SP-24
by:

Arrived in good shape and we were pleased with the quality of this unit. The biggest challenge, of course, is removing the old skylight and all the sealant, but once that was accomplished the installation went forward without any trouble. We like the metal cover because the last two plastic covers have disintegrated after a number of years.

This product was purchased to replace an old vent that broke. The vent showed up on the front steps. I open the box and found the corner to be bent up. I needed to fix the hole in the roof A.S.A.P., so I bent the corner back to avoid going through a return. Over all I'm happy with the vent, but not thrilled about it being bent.

Just what I was needing, a metal roof vent. With the Texas sun and heat, plastic doesn't last long. The garnish leg may be a little wide, but its a horse trailer, and no one will see it except my wife and I. Great product and appreciate the metal cover being much more durable than plastic. Only reason to not give it 5 stars is the snap in screen is sort of warped and one corner keeps popping out. Other than that it is well built and doing well after 1 year of use.

- V2110SP-24
by:

Awesome upgrade. This vent is a one time replacement that will last the life of the cargo trailer. I park outdoors with full sunlight exposure. In addition to no UV deterioration, no concern of hail damage. Only downside, no light coming through; in my view, a great trade off.

Well built trailer vent. Metal lid prevents short term replacement. I don’t need to worry about the lid sun rotting about the time I’m traveling in the snow or rain.

- V2110SP-24
by:

I think the plastic incorporated in this vent is Cheap and weak especially the trim ring that goes inside the trailer

- V2110SP-24
by:

I had a plastic roof for years and years, but the most recent one (of three) was cooked by the sun and just became so brittle that its crank frame broke right out of it. I hadn't even been aware of the existence of the metal one until I went to the Internet (instead of brick-and-mortar stores) but I find nothing at all wrong with this one and expect never to replace it. That is, unless some goofball tries to bring my van out of a garage without having raised the door high enough like when my first one was ruined, back in the 1990's.

- V2110SP-24
by:

Having a metal roof vent is definitely going to be more durable. We bought a 2018 Rockwood, and the plastic on the vent had a crack in it and was overall deteriorating! Of course, it sits out in the sun all the time. The only down side to this is, the crank handle. It's a short knob, so my husband replaced it with the old handle, so at least now I can reach it.

Glad I decided on metal vs. Plastic. The Florida sun just eats them! Metal is the right solution!

Yes, the turn knob for the Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent # V2110SP-24 that you referenced does sit higher than the flange surface of the vent. Most of the RV roof vents we have available, such as the Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent - Metal # V2110SP-24, can be adjusted a bit based on the roof thickness. • Can I Replace My Plastic Vent Lid On My Enclosed Trailer With A Metal Lid?
To replace your current vent lid with a metal roof vent lid you would need to replace the entire vent assembly. The Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent # V2110SP-24 will replace your current vent that has a 14-1/4" x 14-1/4" rough opening. This manual opening roof vent has a white interior garnish for roofs 1-7/8" to 3" thick. The exterior of the vent is galvanized steel to prevent rust and corrosion. A Roof Vent Installation Kit # 344270KITW will provide you with everything you need...

  • Would the Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent # V2110SP-24 Work on an Aluminum Roof
Yes, the Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent # V2110SP-24 that you referenced could be installed on your aluminum roof and a thin piece of plywood. The included garnish with this vent is for 2-1/8 inch thick roofs. If you needed a thinner garnish you would want the Ceiling Garnish part # VA0445-25 as this one is 1-1/8 inch thick.

  • Does a Wooden Frame Need to be Fabricated to Install a Roof Vent in a Motortrack Trailer
You should not have to fabricate anything to go between the roof joists to install the Ventline vent # V2110SP-24. The vent does come with a garnish that can be trimmed some to fit different roof thicknesses. If your trailer roof is thin enough you may need to fabricate something for it to fit more flush on the inside of the trailer. I also recommend vent installation kit # 344270KITW. It includes screws, tape, and caulk needed for installation. I have included a link to a video review...

  • What is the Overall Height of the Closed Lid on Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent # V2110SP-24
When installed in your trailer roof the Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent # V2110SP-24 will sit such that its closed lid will be 2-inches above the trailer roof surface. When open the lid will be about 11-inches above the roof. If your trailer roof is metal or wood you can use Installation Kit # 344270KITW. If it is rubber you will instead want kit # CAM25013.
