Pick the step count that eases the rise, and grab a helper or a floor jack to hold the stairs while you start the bolts.
Yes, you can swap solid steps for a pull-out step. Measure your bracket spacing and mounting area first. If the step is narrower than your brackets, use spacers on each side with longer 3/8" hardware to fill the gap. A two-person install helps—extend the steps to the ground to support the weight while you start the bolts.
Install is typically straightforward. Steps can bolt directly in place using the included hardware and clear instructions; some setups use included spacers for a perfect fit.
