RV Steps with electric 1 step simplicity
A straightforward way to refresh your entry, an electric step in a 1 step layout swaps in cleanly and keeps operation hands-free. Expect most effort during removal, and have replacement mounting bolts ready. Measure your step width and the drop you need to match your rig, and if a step cycles in and out while driving, check the door switch wiring to the control module.
Yes—removal can take longer than install. Some RVs use carriage bolts that are not accessible and can spin, and old hardware can break, so have replacement mounting bolts ready. Once off, an exact-match unit typically bolts up and plugs in. If your dash has a step-extended warning light, a separate micro-switch may be needed and wired into the coach.
Pick a single electric step that tucks up close but drops far enough so the rise to your RV feels comfortable. Measure your entry height and compare to the step's drop so it won't nearly touch the ground. If a recent replacement sat too low or too high, recheck the step's drop and your mounting height to dial in the right match.
A full replacement may be needed for some late-1990s units since replacement motors are not made for those models. Check the tag on your old step to confirm the series and age. If you want to change direction, a manual pull-out step can be used when it matches your bracket width and needed drop.
Intermittent wiring to the door switch or control can cause the steps to think the door is opening and closing. Check for loose connections and a loose or failing door switch. Secure or repair the wiring so bumps in the road don't trigger the steps.
